  • The preparations for the new siege unit, headed up by Tanya herself, is in full swing. Maybe she can whip these new recruits into shape before the real action starts.

I will say, the manga made the training arch SOOO much more brutal. She full on tortured her men (anti-interrogation training) in hopes of getting some to quit

The light novel is the best, not to mention that it is canon and I based the anime on that.

Just as a side note: In the light novel it's described that Tanya used training methonds of the most effective combat units in the world like the seals, deltas and so on. She just forged the best of the best out of these men. She is using techniques not ionvented in this world, but she knows them from her past life.
Concerning the army of dakia: its 50.000 in the vanguard and 600.000 total.

Tanya isn't evil per say, she is a sociopath with no empathy for other people. She isn't cruel, she doesn't care enough about other people to enjoy hurting them. She will hurt or kill people if that is advantageous for her, but she doesn't do that for no reason. She does what she needs to to get the most use out of people, so she will treat people under her well if that gets them to be productive for her.
What she has a huge problem with are people who aren't productive or who don't live up to her expectations. She despises people who won't follow her orders, or are failures, and those people are the ones she hurts. The cadet who wouldn't follow her orders, the 2 corporals she blew up in a pill box because they wouldn't follow her orders, etc. She hates Being X and just wants to hurt him because he doesn't live up to what an actual monotheistic creator god would be, even though he claims to be. That a failure of a god is interfering with her life is driving her crazy. She admires rationality and looks down on being emotional, but her emotional need to go overboard humiliating and crushing those she despises just leads to more trouble for her.

Nevermind the LN isn't called 'Saga of Tanya the Evil' that was a localization decision which immediately colors the viewer's bias before even watching the show.

If you pay close attention her graduation speech pays homage to Gunnery Sergeant Hartman from Full Metal Jacket.

Yes, Tanya completely underestimated the type of people volunteer for special operation units.
And yes, Tanya just delivered gift wrapped to a World War 1 mentality. Country of how to have twenty first century combined arms warfare, Airborne Paratroopers, Special forces, Commando, Rangers, Navy SEALs.
Each individual mage is basically an AH64 Apache, And this world has been wasting them on trench warfare.
Tanya stole her apartment poster from a real world polar expedition, And she stole her training and graduation speeches from full metal jacket.
Now her battalion understands they are not allowed to die without permission....
And yes, IRL Romania (Dakia) did actually try to bring a nineteenth century army to a twentieth century battlefield once..... ONCE. 😱

Yeah, "Tanya the Evil" is the most propaganda I've ever seen be put into a three word title.
The original title, Youjo Senki (I don't remember the full title in Japanese), translates as "A Young Girl's War Record."
Tanya is morally complex, doing a lot of right things for the wrong reasons, and doing mostly wrong things with coldly calculated logic proving her right. The original author has gone at length on how Tanya's mindset is utterly opposed to the ideology of WW2 Germany, even if that's simply because gender politics (such as LGBTQ+ stuff) don't matter to her; Tanya wants her workers/soldiers to be the absolute best version of themselves possible, and if that meant getting someone transition she'd get them their requested days off and help them re-join the workplace once they were able. Almost literally, Tanya's Creed is "Be as efficient as possible." You are a cog in society. Start spinning. If you get rusty or start wobbling, it's Tanya's job as HR manager to get you oiled, shined, and running smoothly again. It was also his job to replace you if you malfunctioned or broke.

26:23 This is a problem of the anime not giving enough information. There are two very important factors left out of this scene.
1: That was Tanya's normal voice, when she's not trying to be gruff and edgy to look good with the top brass or her subordinates. Tanya's actually well remembered by the church for having an angelic singing voice; how she sounds while giving the warning reflects that (but of course, the soldiers simply think she's acting).
2: She waited the minimum 30 minutes to allow for an evacuation before blowing the factory to smithereens.
And you know what, 3: To underline something that was implied, but not really stated aloud, the 203rd were expecting Tanya to slaughter the building (and potentially the entire capital) without warning. When Visha asked "are you _sure_ you want me to warn them?" She meant "why warn them when we could just win now?" But Tanya heard "is it really alright for a mere adjutant to perform this task?"

Regarding the numbers: 600.000 enemy soldiers invaded, the battlefield Tanyas battalion got sent to had ~50.000 of those 600.000.

I was under the impression that there were 600.000 enemy soldiers, but Tanya mocked them by saying that they were comparable to the strength of a 50.000 strong mob, rather than soldiers. Essentially saying that 12 of the soldiers together, equalled the strength of 1 regular person, not even a soldier. Although, depending on the sub used the phrasing differs.

They're fighting the vanguard group of the army. She says so in anime.

Tanya isn't EVIL in the true meaning of the word. The Manga title is actually translated to something like 'War Diary of a Little Girl' which I think is a much more accurate depiction of what we are seeing/reading. However, if we look at the Anime title as being written by the Allies, who have titled Tanya as: 'The Devil of the Rhine' then the title fits. Evil is not a description of her conduct, but rather a label applied for propaganda to rally all the nations together in order to stop her.

Kinda late to the party, but the mistranslation in this episode always get to me, Tanya says 宣誓 and not 先生, both read as "Sensei", but the first means Oath or Announcement, while the othe mean Teacher/Instructor/Doctor(yes, in Japan you call doctor with sensei). So what she's says is actually "Announcement: We will conduct fair war under..." and not "Instructor! We will..."

This battle showed how a country that don't want to change their ways to fight in war gets obliterated by superior technology, literally the batallion was fighting an army of the prior decades or even century because they barely had normal guns and horses

Yah so the army Tanya fought was the Vanguard. So for an army with 600,000 people a good amount for a vanguard of an army (napoleonic era type) should be around 75,000 to 100,000. This is supported by the comment Weisse gave after they took over the enemy HQ where he says that our allied air fleet are reloading their bombs to finish off the remaining army. So there are more enemy left and Tanya fought a fraction of it not a small feat lamo for just a unit with 48 soldiers.

Yes! Hopefully Chris' magic key will keep working on YT so everyone can enjoy theses guys reacting to badass Tanya. Imagine the Navy Seals Hell Week stretched out for an entire month. Viktoriya knows Tanya, notice she grabbed the shovel as soon as Tanya said artillery. 9:30 the Army dogs were there to sniff out the enemy, not bite them, gas masks equipped in case of gas attacks. CPR not known at this time so they think Tanya dragged him back from the dead. Every time Tanya uses the Type 95 jewel it messes with her head, and causes so memory loss. Maybe Being X is hoping Tanya will forget why she's opposed to Being X? Each mage has a unique mana signature like a finger print, they refer to the stronger mages as being named mages so the enemy can detect these signatures and realize the Devil of the Rhine is coming for them. Instant tanking of the enemy morale, but they can try things to compensate (not that they would work against Tanya). 21:00 3 divisions was the 50K vanguard that Tanya wipes out, the Empires air force bombed the rest into oblivion since Dakia had no air support. Tamaya was an early fireworks company in Japan, so it became a tradition to yell the company name when a really spectacular display happened.

What you two guys might not have known at the time of recording this video was that when Tanya was addressing the Dakian arms factory people and warning them that they were about to be blown to shribbons, she was actually using her normal child-like voice, not the one she uses when she's doing her war thing. That's why she's so pissed at both Weiss and Serebryakov when they make a point of her sounding different.
