FAQ - “Blackwashing?” Blackwashing is not a real term nor thing! It is not comparable to whitewashing as whitewashing is the erasure of a person’s race and culture !! @@KiiboHasControversialOpinionssAs a person of color I don’t understand why people can’t be happy with given rep to people of darker skin. For years and generations people with darker skin have been condemned and shamed for, and as an asian person that definitely passes for asian, I believe there’s no harm in adding rep to characters that are already existing. I’m not taking away any features nor any asian aspects away from the character as light skin is NOT an aspect of being asian or any other race, and while there is nothing wrong with making new characters for rep, there is still colorism and racism out in the world which as people of color we should know this by now. If nonpoc are able to enjoy most of the cast of shows being pale and white, then people of color whether darker skinned or light skinned can enjoy having characters that look like them as well. Whitewashing is bad because it takes away from what little minorities HAVE, and so: no, I don’t believe “blackwashing” is a thing. I’m not going to argue with you over this topic, so if it makes you angry that I’m adding rep then I’m sorry but my account is not for you. I’m not “baiting” or “making people angry on purpose.” I’m trying to be mindful of my friends and make others feel included.
as an asian with the skin color of dazai in this video, I felt kind of weird seeing it lol xD I'm not really sure how I feel about it. Like, my way of viewing it is is like fixing art. If I made a white oc and someone change the skin color, I'd feel kinda offended. If you want representation, just make another oc!!!! You don't have to change already made character. Just make another one.... There is increasing casual representation of poc, so imo you reaaally don't need to change perfectly fine characters. But that's just my two cents, do whatever ig! You art style is adorable btw :D
@@m1churr0 I get you! It is oc-fiying the characters which I find nothing wrong with it, actually pretty fun! Everyone's interpretations are different (as long as no one is in the harm here) and I enjoy seeing work like this ^^
Everyone wants someone to relate to and be given representation I get that, and you're art is very pretty and I do love Dazai's character but saying that Blackwashing isnt a thing is a bit weird from my perspective because to me it seems like you're changing this Japanese character to fit what you want. Its not like its the worst thing to do in the world but its what you're doing right? Changing a characters skin tone "erasing" as you say, someones culture (Japans) and replacing it with another I want to preface this isnt out of malice but just a genuine comment from my point of view since I dont view myself as rac1st, I just think that saying that Blackwashing and Whitewashing not holding similar weights of erasure is a bit weird
