    her best results at the French were QF finishes in 2010 and 2017 and she only won one slam and reached number 1 before she won the slam. Sorry but Caroline doesnt really have heightened accolades for that. At least Venus reached one of the finals and Simona won the damn tournament.

      💯 great catch exactly… another 3 set thriller she even beat Sloane in the R16 that year. Great point as if they won’t give Simona a WC who’s played very well in France 🇫🇷 Caroline needs a really good argument to get one …as protocol is not even on her side

      I don't think the 'Sir' bit carries much sway with the French, the Americans or the Aussies. However he knows it's such a slog to get back anywhere near the level he was at.

    it's an Olympic year. Caroline and Emma are potential threat to 2 French players to make the Olympic cut ( top 56) . If Osaka (likely) or Kerber enters top 56 after the FO, Caroline is going to the Olympics. If both, Emma is going to the Olympics too!

    In Simone Halep's case, the drug event alone rules her out in the eyes of a lot of fans and opinion would always be split, and like the others we're talking of here, she has money beyond the dreams of ordinary players and fans who at the end of the day, pay the wages. Naomi Osaka has also been also taking wildcards that might go to lesser players so she's taken advantage too. Emma is not moaning about Roland Garros not giving her a wildcard. Given her return from injury and the impending switch to grass, she's chosen to take her tennis elsewhere at this time. I think she considers her chances on the grass to be better overall to increase her points in the long term. Personally, I'm quite disappointed not to see her in Paris, but I'm not disappointed in her decision. It's a gamble but going into qualifying at Roland Garros at this time is also a gamble for her. It's clearly not about the money in her case (long term money maybe 😇). Unlike Caroline's team, she's not claiming she's entitled to a Wildcard.

    By the way, after Wimbledon, I totally agree that Emma should be earning her own points as should all the other big names. However like Coco Gauff she did have great first tournament there, going out with an age related physical condition (for want of a better description).. Wildcards in slams are generally for home players to give up-and-coming youngsters a pay day and exposure and because the home fans want to see them at their home slam. As for the few wildcards that go to non-nationals, I remember Novak's old coach 'Goran Ivanisevic' a grass court specialist getting a wildcard in 2001 when he was ranked 121. He won the tournament.

    • @TennisinaMinute
      @TennisinaMinute  29 днів тому +1

      Well said, “if you’re a tennis player …just play tennis” great point the local players need that boast of exposure and funds to help propel them, most see Sachia is unexpected but she is technically a native of France as she was a young star abroad to jump start her career

    I agree that no player is entitled. These 4 slams are our Blue-Ribbon events and like golf, there is qualifying available. The exception in golf is for ex-winners who get a free entry for life, though the effect is minimised due to the initial size of the field

    Did you notice that when Emma Raducanu came back from those operations recently and played some sublime tennis in the BJK cup beating Garcia then Parry on their chosen surface (indoor clay) then followed up with a decent performance in Stuttgart against Kerber and Iga. What happened next?? She fluffed badly against Carle in Madrid What happened next ?? She was called out by of all the people her BJK captain and long term mentor. It was Anne Keothavong who told her (in so many words) that of all the things you do, You don't ever check out during a match if you want to be a champion. As they say, it takes those who are closest to you to tell you the truth at times. And not scared to say it openly. Emma is intelligent and can take the criticism and use the lesson, I think.

      @@TennisinaMinute She didn't do the junior circuit to the extent that many of her peers did and her parents ensured she was an AAA* student while other kids were out on the pro-tour putting tennis first. Hence I think her flunk in 4th round at Wimbledon just weeks after her exams was due to a lack of endurance, a lack of sufficient fitness for the level and a young head on young shoulders. So she arrived on the tour unprepared for what she needed to know but was able to free-swing in every match at the US Open, clearly taking each day as it came and loving every minute of it, even the final (hence the much used phrase 'Fairy-tale of New York'). Emma clearly had none of the expectation levels that people like young Leylah's dad had put on her shoulders in that final. I listened to Leylah's dad Jorge on a podcast the morning after the final. He is very measured and thoughtful generally.
      Emma's dad seemed to be the one who decided she should get rid of her coach immediately after the final. I think that's what was wrong with Emma till very recently and now those around her seem to be accepting more wisdom from others. Getting rid of that coach so soon reminded me of a gambler keeping all the chips on red every time the wheel spins (and why not because it had always worked before). 🙃 Only in the past couple of weeks did it come out that her parents drove her tennis and her academic efforts as many parents do. Emma has stayed very balanced and likeable as an individual through everything.

I think about Agassi when he was making his comeback, he dropped to the lower level tournaments to get in shape and get better. If you are really serious about your comeback play. Go get it! Emma barely plays. I do think she is so talented but why does she not want to play? Emma is too young of a player to be like this Rybakina complains way too much.
