The orchestral suite Light Year is also inspired by a series of paintings, these ones by Helen Frankenthaler. Cast in six movements, the extremely evocative work captures the breath-taking scale and mysterious nature of the universe. Light Year was composed for and dedicated to John Wilson and Sinfonia

Stunning music under the baton of a great conductor. Greatly looking forward to hearing the full work.

It would be lovely if John Wilson and the Sinfonia of London recorded Alfredo Casella's orchestrations for Balakirev's Islamey and J.S. Bach's Chaconne BWV1004. Casella's orchestration for Mily Balakirev's Islamey, is an orchestral tour de force - it will surely stretch the orchestra to the limit. There is astonishing volume per page, at least one page requires 30 staves, there is textural complexity, divisi strings, tutti passages that demand considerable instrumentation, but there are also passages full of colour and delicacy with subtle and fine instrumental soli emitting mesmerising melodic writing. On the other hand, Casella brought a lot of inventiveness and boldness to bear, when doing his orchestral transcription for Bach's Chaconne. He kept Bach's original violin, but simultaneously, he brought to the fore all the polyphonic and contrapuntal substratum that exists in latent form (in the original violin work).
