- 3 Ways to Quickly Crash Your New ARF
In this video I will cover the 3 quickest ways you can crash your new ARF (almost ready to fly) RC model airplane. The three ways are having an incorrect center of gravity, reverse controls and a dead battery.
These remarks are "tongue in cheek" of course. And they apply to any electric powered RC model airplane. But the point is the ARF RC model aircraft produced these days are of such high quality that the incautious builder can be lulled into complacency and not check things like the center of gravity, control direction or the charge state of their batteries.
In short, the basic procedures of aviation and RC flight still should be observed.

Great advice Tim!
Many thanks! Tim
I hope all the lucky new pilots get to see this video .

I check my flight control movement at the bench and again on the field in my launch position on every flight and I have done this my whole flying life,It's actually a habit I have.I fly full scale and it's on my checklist(C-172/C-152).
Great points, thanks! Tim
I lost an ARF on maiden due to the control throws set too high. And then to compound the problem I didn't land right away once I realized the issue. Having a little battery checker is a great idea. When I carry a lot of battery packs, I sometimes get a drained one mixed in with the charged packs. That little tester saves the day in that situation.👍
Very good! Tim
Tim,I got that same battery checker,it's a good deal at just $9.99.I had the one from Spectrum for $55.00 and the screen broke on me,what a huge waste of money, but my cheep battery checker is great.I found some of them don't have reverse polarity protection so if you accidently plug the balance plug in backwards, you get the magical blue smoke,my second one has it as I tested it while holding my breath and it was fine.
Thanks for this update! Tim
Thanks Tim. I already have this figured out.

A 4th way to crash within seconds is to have a reversed gyro. Some gyros require the reversing in your transmitter to be set to normal and others let you do the reversing in the transmitter which then tells the gyro which way it should move the controls. If you're new to gyros, you probably should put it on a switch where you can take your plane up to a safe altitude before turning the gyro on. This should give you enough time to turn it off before your plane crashes. If you can't fly without a gyro, get an experienced pilot to help you.
Excellent point, thanks for sharing! Tim
👍Great video again Tim. Been there done that when it comes to crashing because of center of gravity 🙂....... But I did it in my younger years when I was somewhat clueless..
All good, thanks for checking in! Tim
Tim, hello. I’m new to your channel and just subscribed because I love the way your direct and right to the point. Obviously you plan your script and know your topic. Keep it up sir.
Many thanks! Tim
Love your title ! Very good video !! Thank you very much.
Glad you liked it! Tim
I like to keep my CG in a match box at home saves a lot of problems ! David Bodington 1970 🤣
All good! Tim
If you follow the manual that comes with the ARF you should be successful. The internet is also very helpful.Because of the internet videos I learned to hand launch my Flight V900 with SAFE on,and since then,I've had nothing but great flights and found that with SAFE every launch is a carbon copy of the others.CG is very important, also check that all the servos are tightened down and the motor is secure to the firewall. And use a balanced prop.
Great points, thanks! Tim
Tim gotta question so i got this eflite flat foamie bnf plane but for some reason when I take it outta safe mode it was to roll over to the right n nose dive I gotta put back it safe mode any idea on what that might be? idk if reversing the alerions channel would help?
Grant: I really am not too smart on SAFE mode items, as I never use it. Try www.RCGroups.com as they seem to have a lot of good info. Tim
You’re taking about PNP foamies, not ARFs. ARFs are bare airframe. Normally a Balsa built airframe. Foamies are PNP or BNF. Not many ARF foamies available today. Also, a Lipo battery will not loss power to the servos as it’s running of the BEC for RX power. Even if you hit LVC on the ESC you will have BEC voltage.
Good points, thanks! Tim
Good points, thanks! Tim
The suggested CG is only that for these foamy arfs. Do the math before the maiden flight.

audio is hopeless.
Fully agree. Audio was about the hardest thing I've tried to solve since I upgraded to iPhone 12. Went through four different mics, etc. Finally, an audio engineer with 30 years of experience said to just use the built in iPhone mic, they work well. I did so, and with some manipulation in the video editor audio now OK. Still several older videos in the queue. Tim
Please don’t call them arfs
