I realize that it doesn't mean much now, but I offer my salute to Captain Mush Morton, along with all of the men of the USS Wahoo. May they all rest in peace.
It most certainly does matter now! We must never forget what these men did for their country, and make sure future generations appreciate their sacrifice. We would not be free without men like these. "Greater love has no man......." John 15:13
Proudly served in USS Morton DD948 for four years 1959-63. We have a reunion every two years. His daughter was the ship's sponsor and the only female member of the reunion association.
A Russian team searching for a famous lost Russian submarine recently found Wahoo, as well as the submarine they were searching for. They documented the wreck very professionally and respectfully.
@@djangorheinhardt Morton ran them down and was heavily censured for it. As it turned out they wern't Japanese at all they were Indian POWs who were being transported. Yes Dudly was a war criminal.
Neither one of you idiots if ever been to war another one of you have ever had someone shoot at your head with a machine gun and anger who would love nothing better than to take from you everything you've ever had and everything you're going to have. You've never faced an enemy who would love nothing better than to take your home destroyer rape your mother your sisters your aunt your grandmother and your wife and then murder them. Oh how easy it is for you to sit in your class houses and cast stones at others who have gone out and paid the price for your freedom when you should just simply say thank you in shut the fuck up!
What wasn’t shown in the story was that two crewmen from the ship were late from leave. They were replaced by two radioman from the sub tender one was my father Jerry Ray Dalley. They were actually on the Wahoo when the two missing crew showed up and he was sent back to 0:05 the Sub Tender, I can still feel the chill I felt when my father told me the story. I salute the Captain and the crew of the WAHOO FOR THEIR SERVICE AND SACRIFICE
A great ship and crew. I'm sure Mr. Leaf would never have been allowed to voice his message over broadcast radio during the war. Jane Fonda got away with treason but he wouldn't have.
IN WATERS DEEP In ocean wastes no poppies grow, No crosses stand in ordered row, There young hearts sleep...beneath the wave... The spirited, the good, the brave, But stars a constant vigil keep, For them who lie beneath the deep. 'Tis true you cannot kneel in prayer On certain spot and think, "He's there." But you can to the ocean go... See whitecaps marching row on row; Know one for him will always ride... In and out...with every tide. And when your span of life is passed, He'll meet you at the "Captain's Mast." And they who mourn on distant shore For sailors who'll come home no more, Can dry their tears and pray for these Who rest beneath the heaving seas... For stars that shine and winds that blow And white caps marching row on row. And they can never lonely be For when they lived...they chose the sea. -- Eileen Mahoney
Many sources now credit Wahoo with 21 sinkings, including six on her final patrol. It is not clear why Wahoo attempted a daytime crossing of the La Perouse Strait. If she had waited until night to make the passage, it would have been much safer.
Hmm! The first priority is to the well being of the crew and ship! Sometimes it's better to look out for both. The Wahoo was lost in a very difficult area. At the time!

I wonder if the Russians went inside her?
If there was ever a submarine and captain that deserves to have a movie done about them, it would be the USS Wahoo

When they found the wreck of the Wahoo, it appeared she was sunk by an aerial bomb, just as the Japanese reported. Hit just forward of the bridge.

Very accurate depiction of Wahoo’s last 2 patrols.

The wreck of all warships should be considered as war Graves and left alone.
Richard Kane was xo.
Shouldn't it have been "with the loss of 544 souls" rather than persons.
