Great vid, thanks! My first ACD was a stray and the smartest dog I have ever met. He was so well trained and a true working dog, someone must have really missed him but as hard as I tried no one came forward (lucky for me). He cut the time it took to get all the livestock out of the pasture down a whole lot. But my best friend of all time, my second ACD, has recently passed and I miss him every day. He was such a smart-ass and as we all know 100% loyal! Love ACD's.
Great photos of great dogs! My ACD/German Shepherd mix, Sydney, passed in May 2010 of osteosarcoma (cancer) in her pelvis...spent thousands on her trying to fix it but nothing could be done...only 2 1/2 years old, just coming into her prime. Have a new lovely girl..McNab/Aussie Shepherd mix, Chili. Herding breeds are the best! Rest in Peace "Squido"
@wachalookingfour I am sorry for your loss. I love heelers and understand completely. I rescued a pit bull who hhad been traumatized (ie fought) and in a little over a yr, she has completely transformed. Her best buddy is a young ACD named Billy.
I have a ACD. She is 14 years old and has been a wonderful pet and companion. At 14 she is a little slower than she used to be but still my best and always willing exercise partner. When my kids were younger mty ACD (Taz short for "Tasmania") would herd the kids into a corner of the backyard and then wait for them to disperse and then herd them into a corner again. The kids loved it and so did Taz. Wonderful animals. Thanks for the post!
Greatest dogs ever! Smart, loyal and incredibly strong for their size. We had a Blue Heeler called Tash for 13 years until she got cancer and she was the best dog ive ever seen. I plan to get another, when i get a big enough yard!
Wonderful photography. Amazing animals. There's nothing better than watching dogs do what they were bred for - and do it well. These dogs are amazing - heart, stamina, drive, guts. Beautiful compilation. Thanks for this!
This is the best Cow Dog video I have ever seen! GREAT WORK! I have a 3 year old Stumpy tail Queensland Blue Heeler, and the only thing he likes to herd is me and the gardener! Woe be to the person who turns his back on my Blue; he's gonna get a good nip at the heels. Thanks for posting those photos. I've sent this video to everyone I know so they can see what a special breed these dogs are.
Awesome shots of some really great working heelers. They are the best dogs ever!!! They make the best companion dogs as well, as long as you exercise them every day and have plenty of ball or frisbee action. I love my little girl Sky to pieces!!!!!
Thanks Sis 363. His name is Remy and he is a Search and Rescue dog in California. He happens to be one of the pups from the only litter we have produced.
Great shots of the blue dogs in action. My blue boy turned 15 back in Aug and so many of your pics reminded me of when he was younger. I think I will have to make the hardest decision of my life soon as his legs dont work so well any more, but for me to hang on to him much longer is not fair on him. Thankyou very much for the pics
Beautiful pictures! My husband and I adopted an ACD almost a year ago, and he is the best dog we've ever met. We have become HUGE fans of the breed. Your pictures capture the spirit of the Australian Cattle Dog perfectly!
Best collection of ACD photos I've ever seen. I have a wonderful ACD. No cattle to herd, but she bends the other dog-park dogs to her will within seconds of arriving.
Fantastic Dogs, My old blue boy HASLER went to sleep in December 2008 after 15 and a half years, he watched my kids grow up. My family and I now have another blue dog and we hope to have him for as long Hasler. they are the best natured, smartest, and most loyal dogs that ever to walk this land.
My ACD was the best. He died two years ago. Not from old age but from three pit bulls and one boxer. He was defending me from some dogs that got out of the house and he was with me on my daily run. The vet told me i needed to put him to sleep. he was in a very bad shape. I was soooo sad i even cry (i don't like to cry). he was the best. rest in peace John Parker Demitrsiky
These Cattle Dog photos are incredible. We re on our third and fourth Cattle Dog (one Blue; one Red) and they are the most fun. So very smart and quick, wow, quick. Love these photos
Jeff donates calendars to ACD rescues. His 2011 calendar has the most incredible ACD action shots. Thanks, Jeff, for all you do to help this wonderful and sometime miss-understood breed . ACD's are the best, just not the breed for everyone.
ACD's are amazing animals....I have a blue heeler and she is sharp, loyal and fiercely intense in any situation. I can't imagine my life without her. This is a fantastic video that truly exhibits their amazing personality and dedication to their work and owners. Thank you:)
I had a blue heeler when I was growing up. Right away as a puppy she started biting the heels of everybody in the house. Then started biting the tires on bicycles, cars, atv's, tractors and even the skis on the snowmobile. Finally I had her channel that energy onto the livestock but she still continued to bite everything else. I remember she was so fast that she actually caught several chipmunks before they got up the trees. She was the guardian of the farm.
Awesome images! I have a blue and a red ACD and I agree with you re their loyalty. Both are obedience trained and when i had my daughter they heeled to the pram to protect her instead of me. They are great all round dogs!
I also own a Blue heeler her name is ZIP-ONYX.. She 4 years old now and she is my best friend...The greatest dogs in the world to have...My life would not be complete without her... Sunshine
un beleivable!! well done jeff! anyone outside of australia watching this vid,,,,,you have just seen the true colours of the australian cattle dog! its whole character is there,,,,dont know what to say,,watch it again!! matt
Our ACD is probably the most intelligent and affectionate dog I have known. She responds to a number of commands... "Give me 5" "Give me 10" "Give me a hug" "Turn around" "Stand up" and so many more... She loves the interaction and has a great smile when she is happy. She thrives on affection and is a very quick learner, with an almost uncanny ability to understand what is being asked of her. She understands sign language as well as vocal commands. Wonderful breed.
Fantastic Vid! I have two ACD dogs. I would not have it any other way. I am actually thinking of getting a third. Super smart dogs, very attentive to their owner. The only thing is i regret that they have had their tails docked (not by my choice). I don't live on a farm, but we spent a lot of time in the Utah mountains. I feel save with my dogs knowing they will protecting me when and if I come across a cat. Hands down best breed of dog!
You've got some really nice pics in here! These dogs are so lucky -- they get to herd cattle. I live in the suburbs with my two heelers, who go on walks and to the dog park (where they try to herd the other dogs) but it would be so awesome if they had some cows or sheep to chase.
Great pictures - I get my ACD in about 4 to 6 weeks. He is going to be a Blue with a few red patches on him I've wanted an ACD for over 30 years and, at last, I'm getting one!
thanks for uploading!!!! and of course i have the very best acds in the world... as does anyone who has had the privilege to have an acd as a family member will tell you. their cow dog was the best who ever lived!!! they are life changing!!!
This video is awesome. My 7yr old ACD Sarah is my baby. She is so spoiled, she sleeps in my bed and If I leave her alone too long I feel bad and come home with a new toy for her lol.
beautiful pictures of beautiful dogs! i have 4 heeler myself and they are just absolutely amazing dogs. i have one red, two blue and one chocolate and unfortunately, i dont have cattle but i do have agility equipment lol. thanks for the awesome video
LOVE LOVE LOVE ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. These are my rockstars. These are my rescue love! Please, rescue one or 10 if you can, they will change your life, forever! I have welcomed & love 7, and I will always and only home these. ❤️ACD❤️
I did rescue one and he is in this slideshow. He died just a few years ago at a very old age. He was the best ACD ever and we have had many ACDs over the years. You can see him at 19 sec, 2:10, 2:19, 3:11 and 3:36. He is also the ACD pictured on the ACD page at Wikipedia.
@@jeff185 oh, and you Sir, take AWESOME images! Thank you for showcasing "our" pups doing what they love, at the very moment of their spectacucattledogness!❤️. I am sorry about the loss, it is hard. My King left me 2 years ago, and it still hurts. My fat boy was the one that really connected with me & completely changed who I am. God bless you, all of your ACDs, and the work you do! Thank you!❤️
I hope you will consider looking into an ACD Rescue! We are overflowing with ACD's that need good homes. Sorry for your loss, as well. It is never easy.
@Dilbet57Wombo Well, the basics of herding are that the dog wants to control the movement of the livestock. Gathering (getting all the stock together in one spot), fetching (bringing the stock to you), and driving (pushing the stock away from you) are the three basics. It would seem your ACD wants to control the movement of your other dog and "persuade" the other dog to come back to you. That would seem like some herding instincts are kicking in.
kinghitz, Thanks for your comment and I agree, there should be no unnecessary biting any place on the livestock. However, the ability to head or stop the forward movement of the livestock is a tool a herding dog should use judiciously. That is where proper training for both the dog and the handler is required.
The Blue heeler that I had not only bit the heels of the cows but also the tires on the tractor, truck, car, four-wheeler, bicycle, skis on the snowmobile, and the heels of people. She was crazy.
@jeff185 Nice video of your ACDs. I have a 16month old Red Heeler mix, Ginger is the most amazing, intense dog I have ever owned. Athletic, energetic, loyal to a fault and attentive, the ACD is one big, big dog in a medium size package.
Agreed. Nobody should allow any dog to confront any livestock without knowing what they are doing. All of these images with livestock were during properly supervised training and/or competition.
I used to sleep on a queen-sized bed. Now that I have a Cattle Dog I sleep on a very narrow stretch on the left hand side, and worse yet, the bitch snores! Reminds me of my damned wife.
@TheAnandaXX I don't know if that term is just a localized term or if it universal. "Loose eyed breed" is the opposite of an "eyed breed". Eye breeds are Border Collies and Kelpies that push the livestock with their eye from a distance. Loose eyed herding dogs are ACDs, Corgis, and others that push livestock more by heading, heeling and close proximity.
Hi Brad, I Agree if a dog is biting just to bite it is not good. If a dog HAS to use a bite to make the cattle go back to the herd or to encourage or to stop forward movement then that is a good dog. In most farming situations, dogs and cattle know the routine and conform. Most of these pics are of dogs in competition where the cattle don't know the course and need to be convinced unwillingly.
I have an Australian Cattle dog too, he has a blue coat. He's called Max. He looks a lot like the dog at 1:15, his face is like that, only he doesn't have as much brown in the ears and his coat has a lot of big black patches on it.

Hi mysecretskill99, Thanks for introducing me to the Huntaway. We in North America are very ignorant about that NZ breed. I will do some more research. I see some very nice characteristics - intelligent, family friendly, not stubborn, easier on livestock when gathering...... Nice!

FANTASTIC VIDEO, Jeff! Nice to see so many images of this wonderful breed in a working context. Outstanding...thank you!
Totally agree! Outstanding photography!
GREAT PHOTOS and GREAT VIDEO. Best pics I have ever seen of them working. I have 2 and love them both. Wish I had some cows to keep them busy.
Thanks for making your photos into a showcase of our magnificent breed.

Great shots. We sure love them down here in Oz, Kelpies and Heelers, can't go past them. Best dogs on the planet, in my completely biased opinion.
2:43 looks just like my Buddy who passed away due to cancer in 2003. I'll never forget him. This will always be my favorite breed.

Well done. Really enjoyed those shots and the music. I wouldn't own any other breed. Reds are my fav.
M8 awesome pics and yeah gotta love those tough little dogs
*Loved* this video- awesome photos! Favorited :) Right after watching this I went in my backyard for some good playing/running with my ACD Marley :)
While your at it Jeff if you ever make a calendar or something similar with shots like these I'd buy.
Great pictures!!! I like the breed more and more:-)

great pictures..i love blue heelers!
Brilliant video!
Well done.
👍 ThankYou! Loved watching this!
This a great video. Makes me proud to have an ACD, they are the best.
@justnatural - that's why they call them "heelers" . They control movement of cattle by nipping (biting) at the heels of cattle. It is in their blood.
i gotta agree theese dogs are awesome i have one a red healer she is so sweet but can be frisky alot lol she turned 1 year old today
looks like a fine job youve done mate
I don't know how much experience you have had of feral cattle but you do whatever is needed to get the job done.
Reminds me of my damned wife.
awsome vid! working on training my australian kelpie to herd cattle
@TheAnandaXX
I don't know if that term is just a localized term or if it universal.
GREAT shots, Jeff !!!
This vid is awesome! Incredible pics of Heelers!
Kelpies are great. I am going to make a video of Kelpies some time - at least it is on my list of things to do.......
excellent video, great one, loved it
Hi Brad, I Agree if a dog is biting just to bite it is not good.
Hey, thanks for the nice words. The music is "Windshield Wipers" by TJ Hill. It was included with the slide show software I was using and I don't think it is available anywhere else.
Hi mysecretskill99,
Thanks for introducing me to the Huntaway. We in North America are very ignorant about that NZ breed. I will do some more research. I see some very nice characteristics - intelligent, family friendly, not stubborn, easier on livestock when gathering...... Nice!
Love this video some brilliant shots here of the dogs in action, I can't wait to get one to work with my collie. Also what is the music you have plating I can find it to download it.

Mine passed away back this last summer, on June 23. I used to take her out to the sand dunes and let her chase whatever ran in front of the headlights. She lived for that. I buried her out there. I still go out there and talk to her, just in case somehow she can still hear me.
