- In this video we start to get to know Planar 2. We check out its controls, inputs and outputs in order to explore some of the possibilities of this versatile module.
With its smoothly responsive precision joystick, Planar 2 facilitates hands-on vector control of two entirely independent sets of outputs (quadrants A-D, and axis X/Y), plus the ability to capture and playback your gestures. Recording your joystick movements enables the creation of organic and complex envelopes, wild and wobbly LFOs, or extended sonic evolutions. It mixes, morphs, routes and pans audio inputs; triggers gates; outputs control voltages and is itself, CV-controllable. Planar2 puts the ‘joy’ back in ‘joystick,’ and the ‘fun’ back in ‘function generator.’ Its multitasking and tactile interface makes it a flexible and unique control device, no matter what your musical genre.

Can Planar 2 make me coffee and do my taxes as well? Kinda seems like it could if it wanted to. This is like Disting-with-a-joystick kind of versatility.

Great module, bought one, huge Intellijel fan but FYI the plural of axis is axes, not axeses.
It would be nice if I could buy it anywhere. There seems to be no stock at all worldwide.
CV recording adds so much to this module. I'm going to dump my Mk1 for this. Oh and that BOSS Phaser is a nice touch. I still have one from the mid 90s hooked up to my rack's effect chain too!
Yeah , i grabbed one of these from Intelligel last week and it is instantly my most favourite module ever , seriously crazy fun modulation dynamo .

Definitely on my wish list along with Tetrapad for gesture/touch control. So far really enjoy Quadrax, Mixup and Quad VCA. Intellijel makes superb modules.

Yeah there's already a lot to explore with the original, and CV recording alone opens a bit of a Pandora's box!

Is it possible to adjust the Gate Sensitivity for the joystick?
And will the gate sense also trigger on external CV control of the joystick or only on manual control?
there is a level switch for gate sensitivity. its senses reacts to cv changes of the joystick but not to external CV if i remember correctly
Quite possibly the coolest module around, but one of the most confusing demos I’ve ever seen... time to watch again!
Curious if there's anything specific you found confusing or just the video in general. The getting to know Planar 2 videos cover a lot of ground pretty quickly so there's a lot to take in, but there's a bunch of other videos with more specific examples that should also be helpful.

Just curious why a midi cable is connected to the case but there’s no umidi in the 1u row
Because it's a snazzy red cable, to prevent it from sliding back under the desk, and to confuse people.

Bah no $ - but want joystick controls!!!!
Just ordered mine this morning! My control case now (well, when it arrives) has a solid 84 hp featuring, L-R, Scales, Metropolix, Tete, Tetrapad, and Planar 2 on the bottom row, with Shifty, Dixie 2+, a few Qu-Bit FX modules, plus some utilities above. Zero spaghetti at the bottom, so all the controls are without clutter, the design has worked out perfectly.

I have a Metropolis, Plonk, Quadra, 2 Dixies, U-fold II, U-mod II, Triatt, Dual ADSR, Planar, Quad VCA, 2 X 104HP rows of 1U plus Shifty. But I only have a Rubicon and U scale II. Now I have to get Rubicon II, scales and Planar 2 just to keep up. Man i am going to go broke. No, it is worth it.
Oops, I forgot about Tetrapad, Triplatt, polaris and springray, Guess I need to get a Springray II also.
