JohnTheWolf It’s moving along quite nicely. Patience is the key. But it is awesome seeing rewards from our work and seeing things work for us like they should.
this encouraged me so much! My dream is to have that much land and about the same size house weird LOL I know with God ALL things are possible!! God Bless
most of the homestead vids are of people who have money in the bank,,, watch afew of those who dont.. just to have a better realistic view of the hard work of farming
If you need someone that has experience in get started I can help I'm in Jay FL my family has lived like this since the revalushonary war I'm very interested in starting a homestead from scratch I no lots of tricky things that could take a person that doesn't lot of time and effort
I found implementing one aspect at a time allowed me to build up my homestead whilst continuing working a full time job. This way it did not become overwhelming. Started with chickens, then sheep, then bees. My orchard I expand by a few trees every year. I was also able to have cows agisted on my property, allowing me to learn about keeping them. I ended up buying one of cows with a heifer calf and have been milking for nearly 6 months now. It is a fantastic addition to our home. Videos like this encourage me to continue building upon our homestead. Thank you for the tour!
Those weeds are an incredibly nutritious, low maintenance food source. Lots of greens! Clover, dandelion, plantain, purslane and more are so good for you!
I just found your channel and from just watching this video and your chicken video, I know that I will be watching more. You really make helpful and informative videos to help out people new to homesteading. Thanks and keep on doing what you're doing.
Wow. I have 4 kids, theyre 6, 4, and the twins are 1. We have an acre and a half and plan on getting chickens and bees moved in by next spring.... along with our potatoes, pumpkins, onions, and apple trees. To be honest i was feeling a bit overwhelmed until i heard what you said toward the end about how you were still working on it and plan to do more over time. Thanks for the inspiration!
Funnily enough it doesn't get all that much more work once you get more animals. You still have to get up early to feed and potentionally milk them and you have to clean their stands regularly, but it's not much different whether it's one or three cows. Sure, it's different when it's 10 or more cows, but then you'd also naturally get some kind of machine to help, so the time spent at it is still roughly the same. And with children around it's just a blast. Even a preschool kid can take care of the chickens or ducks or feed the rabbits if you cut the grass for him, he or she can also take care of hay if you prepare it yourselves (I would know, that's how I've been raised). A kid at around 10 can learn how to milk a cow or at least a sheep and help with the feeding, he or she can clean the coop on their own. A teenage boy at around 15 will be able to take care of a grown up bull if he's been raised on a farm. It helps if the first born or at least one of the children is raised in the fashion of staying on the property with his or her family. In their own house if needs be, but it ensures enough manpower for when you grow old without having to worry that what you've build is gonna be gone once you can no longer take care of it all. Y'know, just like how it's natural for humans.
Just saw your video on making a chicken roost and I knew right away...."This guy knows what he's doing". So I subscribed. It's just that simple. Looking forward to watching and learning from your vids!! Thanks in advance.
You said it, the reason i don't like gardens is the bending over that is required! That was a great tour, I have to show my wife as we are closing on 10 acres this weekend. Awesome video!
I enjoyed watching the video. I found the information useful, for example you distinguish between a meat chicken and chicken for eggs. I like the fact that the chickens have access to a forest, as that is where they are most comfortable. The information about the pigs was useful; I had not realized that a pig could grow so much in 6 months. Very practical and useful information
We. Missed. You! Loved the update. We move to our homestead in 323 days! Hope you can manage to fit in a few more videos soon amongst all the homestead work.
I love gardening and having my own resources. I cannot have livestock where I live but I grow a lot of fruits and veggies...herbs too. I grow food everywhere. I really like vertical gardening as it takes up less space. I enen grow black pepper plants in pots which I overwinter indoors. They are super easy to propagate for sharing. I also have dwarf bananas which I overwinter indoors. 😀
I'd love to watch the playlists you suggested, but don't want to exit the current video. Perhaps put a link at the current time in the video and at the end? I think it would net you a few more views, or at the very least somebody would be more likely to binge on it.
You have a beautiful farm. Have you thought of doing a trade with a fruits, herbs, and vegetable farmer? You provide meats and dairy products and they provide seasonal produce. Just a thought
This is so cool! My husband and I are trying to pay down our debts currently but I think in our next apartment I want to try a container garden. Maybe one day I'll save up enough to buy my own plot of land haha! Wishing you the best from Texas.
Potatoes are a great way to have filling meals for close to nothing in cost. I know they say don’t, but after the first yr of buying the seed potatoes, I don’t spend a penny. I take some of the crappy potatoes that grew and let them spud, and plant those ones. Never had an issue with disease or problems.
Ur view with a family....more N more like my wife and I are retired...both 65 and purchasing a log home from Meadow Lark homes for cash...now we are looking fo land...we will purchase chickens, goats, rabbits and grow most of our own food...best wishes...u have a lot to look forward to.
Wow, a great video. I just happened to stumble on to the site at you tube. We have Muscoy ducks in The Philippines. We get a lot of ducks for meat. We let the ducks go for meat. We have leghorns for eggs. I am looking chickens that will provide meat. We use light bulbs to incubate the eggs. I love the livestock, I am not great at gardening either. I love your idea of bramble and fruit trees. We have mangos and bananas. I love your pigs. We raise a few pigs all year around. We just raise pigs for our table. Selling pork on our island can make us a little money, at times. Sometimes the price of pork is down, and we could loose. If you put t posts in your garden, you could string wire and use trine from your hay bales to act as runners for tomatoes, beans, pecans and other vines. We do not produce all we need, but we built our homestead up from a small operation. Thanks for a great video. God bless America.
Hey brother...........AWESOME video!! This is the first video I have come across from your channel. You really did a great job explaining and educating people that may be wondering about homesteading. You have a beautiful homestead and a beautiful family. I look forward to catching up on your videos. Continued success and God bless you all.
Great tour! Love that you guys have that lawn area, as we begin to build our homestead we're planning out a similar area just for us to enjoy and relax on, a little park area on our 60 acres just outside of Portland :-D
Wow congratulations! What a beautiful homestead you have created. I am subscribed, Can’t wait to watch more of your videos and watch you grow. I as well want to build a homestead and currently live in the city. But will be selling and moving to the country within in a year to start my own. Best wishes on your future homesteading endeavors.
At first I was skeptical of your video. You look too nice to be a homesteader. But I really enjoyed your video. You have a really great setup. I'm subbing because it nice was watching your video and I would like to see more.
Good job. Your well on your way and young enough to realize great benefits from the young fruit and vineyards you have planted. I have to say everything you talked about is great advice to anyone wanting more self sufficiency in their world. Thanks for sharing the video.
I see a man, planning, working and nature providing sun, air, the soil and water. These are the rewards of working wisely with nature.....where is a god?.
I am retiring in December of this year and am going to take care of my elderly mother in the country in northern Ontario. She’s on two acres and I want to do gardening and chickens. I am really into preserving so I am hoping to get a stall in the market every summer. What type of apples grow the quickest? Thanks for the great videos. I love them. Just subscribed.
New subscriber. We're trying to decide if it's time to put a bid on a lot 1/2 acre to start our own mini homestead! Learning a lot from you guys. Thank you!
Fabulous video. So inspiring, thank you. Have you made any videos on how you prepared to begin your homestead- settling debt, saving, finding the property, etc? I would love to see that.
The clothesline, it reminds me of when I was a tree able to go to 4H Camp which I'm still angry about not being able to go this year but it's okay if I get to do some other stuff that I wasn't allowed to do last year because it was in a lower grade level
"A home consumes, a Homestead produces" Love this definition.
Shawne Roach I never thought about a house as consuming, but it is so true!
Rich Kate it consumes 30 years of your hard work.
Stop being cringy
Living off the land is the best way to live a life
We just purchased 8.5 acres. Here goes nothing. I really enjoy the videos. Thank you for all of the work you put into them.
+Bonnie Crawford awesome! Congrats
JohnTheWolf It’s moving along quite nicely. Patience is the key. But it is awesome seeing rewards from our work and seeing things work for us like they should.
Bonnie Crawford go for it! You got this.
KristenGibson_CanadianGirl thank you! Loving it! Now if my mailbox would stop getting knocked over we would be golden. Lol
Bonnie Crawford was the mailbox post just put into the dirt? Was concrete poured? Sometimes the dirt isn't enough to support the post on its own.
I am so jealous!
This is the lifestyle I wants so much!
So wonderful and beautiful.
you can get there!!!!!!!!!
a year ago we would not at all think that we would be looking at a farm in 5 days!
this encouraged me so much! My dream is to have that much land and about the same size house weird LOL I know with God ALL things are possible!! God Bless
Just imagine how much land you'll have in heaven!😂😂😂
And just imagine how big your MANSION will be!😂😂😂😂
And just imagine how much food you will reap!!😂😂😂😂😂

'If you wanna learn more.....click on the playlist' lol. They have the info you need here. Good stuff!
It's good that you planted fruit and nut tree's. Because a lot of people plant fruit trees but they forget all about their nuts

Thanks for checking us out! And thanks to your daughter!

I love your video. I used to live in Canton Connecticut. Please be careful when spending time outdoor in Connecticut, due to lime disease.
A home also provides...shelter, security, and comforts that would be sorely missed if you had to live without it.

You can feed the pigs all the grass clippings and weeds. Goats can eat up to 60% leaves. This year I experimented with leaf hay. GOD bless.

What You should Do if the cow has a boy raise it and then when its old enough trade your milk cow for another and mate the cows
