  • This video will give you and idea about what it is like to attend a groundhog shoot. These are a little different then the very revered IBS benchrest matches. They are however more accessible to a wider set of shooters of different classes.

From an old competitor, please show the target results, and who had the best group, what caliber and rifle make and model. More interesting than watching shooters shoot. Thanks.

That is cool but this was from 3 years ago. I know Bob Green won with a 149 score and 3 x that day. That is about all I remember though.

Aren't windflags allowed as in score or group Benchrest? I didn't see any.

Not for groundhog shoot. Least none that I have been to. Score matches though you are permitted them. I think I said something about it in the video.

Hi, Are the matches open to the public, or do you have to be a member (I know they are currently closed because of the outbreak)? Also, are one piece rests allowed?

They are open to the public. I think they are. You should check the rules. They have the posted on the website and there is a facebook page for them. I think the match Formans contact info is on the website.

Almost any shooting competition is open to public. NBRSA and IBS requires membership. But, the first time shooter is allowed in free. Membership is only $50-65 USD/yr. Plus competition fees.
Someone has to pay for the targets....
Great sport for old guys and gals...

I really struggle when I see this type of shooting as a sport as I see no practical application to this or real skills other than throwing lots of money at something and understanding the laboratory back home side of reloading. You may as well use a robot to shoot and just load your ammo yourself.

It may look easy to you but what you seem to fail to realize is that almost every shot has to be calculated against the previous ones impact and if needed a small change somewhere within 360 degrees of the highest target scoring area needs to be made otherwise the ever changing wind condition will have its way and you will lose points. We all are shooting for a perfect score ! Bottom line is that no robot could do what we do and we would never use one if it could.

I guess precision target shooting does not appeal to everyone. I use to work with a man who sounded just like you. Said he saw no challenge or compatition in target shooting. Sad. I saw this person pick up a Louie
      La more noval while helping
me move and throw it in the trash. Just as sad. I guess after all the excitement of being a very successful hunter the thought of trying to combine the most accurate and precise shooting firearms with the best made , most consistent amuniition then getting together with 100 or more friends and shooters who are trying to do the same but a little more precise and consistant and try to put 4 bullets thru the hole made from the first round when the wind is shifting and gusting is like watching paint dry. Who makes the smallest hole measured at the widest point minus caliber of bullet I E .243. Scores of a few thousands more are norm.
I hope I didn t put you to sleep out of pure boredom.
I use to hunt and nothing matched outsmarting a muture whitetail or being able to fool a dozen big mallards into coming in to my set like it was old friends down there. Somehow I got tired of all that and killing lost it s allure. Hope that doesn t happen to you. I found precision shooting just as challenging and rewarding. It s a game of fractions of an inch down to thousands depending on which form one chooses. I ve heard that the best shooters are masters in handloading, rifle and trigger control not to mention experts reading the wind , negotiating mirage and even show patience and understanding around illiterate, ignorant arrogant types that say things like you did.
Like a good La more noval , it s not for everyone.
      Sorry.

I guess, you don't like shooting against the time, the wind, and yourself.
It's great fun. And everyone is having a good time. Really nice people.
Reloading depends on the Game. Varmint shoot-pre load, Score shoot-pre load. NBRSA/IBS Group, reload the same brass all weekend. 100y on Sat. 200y on Sun.
      Great fun.

@@stephenladino8247 BS. I'm in this hobby... and it is 100% about reducing variables.
A robot of any kind, at any stage, would be preferable by definition.
You're saying that these shooters wouldn't use an AMP annealer? The wouldn't use CNC cutting edge bullets? They wouldn't use a lathe to trim brass? They wouldn't use laboratory scales to measure powder? They would use ballistic software to determine loads? They would use lab radar to determine velocity?
You're a bit crazy there bud. If it means a win, a robot would be pulling the trigger, if allowed.

    • @OvertonWindex
      @OvertonWindex 2 роки тому +1

I do this, and you're 100% right. It is not a shooting sport. It is a gunsmithing, money spending, machining, and handl9ading sport.
