Thank you so much. I am ambidextrous but I am a lefty on the uke. My husband just got me one for Christmas. I am so glad this was simple to do. Merry Christmas.
my ukulele teacher (the one and only famous Aaron Crowell) worked with my school (the one and only Kaala elm that's like idk 10% famous) to buy us really expensive ukulele brands so we can take it home and im a lefty so he restrings my right handed ones to leftys up here in Oahu, Hawaii :)
Joseph Crone I use a Low G Set which has the Thickest String as a G String. The Low G String will broaden the range, & it'll also make it easier to restring it as a lefty uke.
Joseph Crone There are Low G Tuning string sets which might make it easier to do so since the lowest string is now a wound string & ball end versions will facilitate that process too.
Thank you so much! Leftie here, tried learning how to play it upside-down. One of my friends was watching me play one day and was like "what the heck are you doing, you realize you can re-string it, right?" < Am not a music person at all. Time to re-string!
Thank you for the tutorial. Bought a really cute watermelon Kala with polycarbonate body a couple of months ago and have been wondering why it's harder to progress on uke than guitar on yousician. Turns out I bought a left-handed uke and been finger picking training as if it was right handed 😅 idk if worth buying new set of strings since it's supposed to be a robust instrument I could kick around on vacations with 😅 This helped a lot!
Awesome man, thank you very much! Since switching the strings over, the excess string on the bottom wants to still point the other direction. Is it okay to snip it?
Oh wow thankyou so much, I’m new to the ukulele and I’m also left handed, i was given a right handed ukulele so i just tried to tune the strings for a left hander which i thought was fine but now i see 😅😂
Should the reversed strings fit easily in the saddle and nut? The first and fourth strings should be close enough in width, and I would think the second and third are not so different in width either. But if they don't fit, how would you rearrange the nut and saddle?
This is ok for a cheap uke, with poor action and intonation. But if you have a pricey instrument, you'll have to adapt the nut-slots to fit the string gauge, and make an inverted compensated saddle from scratch with a piece of bone. If this is too complicated, you can just change it with a non-compensated one : it will better than a wrongly commentated one anyway. But flipping the saddle is not an option. Just saying ! ...🙂
What about the nut slots? The 1st (G) and 4th (A) string are easy to change but the C string is thicker than the E string and might not fit in the E string slot. I am getting a Kala Uke and am a lefty so wanted to see about restringing the instrument.
There’s no actual reason to restring if you are using a uke with a high G you can simply retune … G to A … C to E …. E to C … and A to G …. The guage is easily close enough so hey presto
For what it's worth, I'm a lefty. I reversed the strings and discovered that the chords were more difficult to make than if I had left the original stringing. For any lefty considering buying a ukulele: Don't change the strings immediately. Tune it up and try to make the more popular chords. If this works for you then the strumming will follow naturally.
@@josephcrone7010 There are also Earnie Ball Ball-End Ukulele Strings & that's going to make this alot easier cause the Ball ends stop on the bridge. Ball-end uke Strings makes restringing Ukuleles go alot faster.
@@josephcrone7010 There are also Low G Ukulele String Sets & that might make things alot easier cause Low G will give the Ukulele a more playable range & produce a bigger sound.
Thank you so much for this video! I am left handed and yes, I have purchased my first ukulele! This video is very helpful!!

thanks man straight forward and helpful, perfect :)

Does the nut have to be reversed also, or does it make a difference? Thanks!

"look at the chords like your looking in a mirror" YOU NEED TO EXPLAIN THAT!
If you try to read something in a mirror it will be backwards, so it means opposites.
Can you make a baritone left-handed? I’m looking for some in the $500 price range, but finding left-handed is hard to come by.
A Pro Winder Cutter would make restringing a snap along w/ Ball End Strings

Is A the thickest? All my strings broke from moving and I don't know which string goes where. They aren't labeled!
C is the thickest

Css as n you switch the strings on a banjolele

I thought, why not Low G?
Thanks I play upside down hehe
Thank you, sir!
thank you so much you saved me!
Ukuleles are never that expensive because they're really easy to make
im right handed but im restringing it to be left handed because my left arm has no rotation cs of my bones lmao

Well... i can't put the strings as before 😰😰
You don't need to restring a ukulele lol you just re tune it lol @
yes I was just about to say that:) if you only retune it it will sound different:)
