I think the key to his move is his powerful pivot. A lot like Mickelson, he has a slow smooth moment in transition to gather that lag and steep clubshaft, then he turns hard and pulls the club into a more shallow workable delivery position. I think the reason Daly is relatively accurate with the driver vs Phil is his pivot is far more dynamic and starts much earlier. Phil’s hard pivot move is much later in the downswing giving him less time to rotate the clubface back to square. Daly’s swing is a beautiful thing to behold in the wild. Much smoother and under control then it appears on TV. Anyhow, thanks for another solid video Wayne. I’m a big fan.
Thx for this!! Been struggling with my crazy long Daly backswing, trying to shorten it up but it ain't working...just gonna continue to be the feel player I am!
Interesting fact for my fellow Daly fans, I read that the reason for his unique backswing was receiving a men’s set from his father when he was a boy. Daly didn’t want them cut down, so the length and weight of the full size clubs created the long swing.
Wayne Defrancesco Golf Learning Center Do you think he becomes the major champion and star player without the unique big swing born out of the ill fitting clubs? Do you think he would have had that much speed with a normal length backswing?
The best balance and tempo of any great player, how many times do you see JD get out of balance? Besides that, people tend to forget that he had one of the worlds best short games as well in his prime.

It's a baseball style swing. The "flying" elbow allows him about 2% more clubhead speed than he could get with a conventional swing. The elbow snaps downward in the downswing, like it would if you were throwing an underarm pitch. I can swing faster this way than doing so conventionally. Just a baseball style swing.

What a great pivot he has.
Similar inside move and lift on the backswing like Ray Floyd?
Does John Daly use mostly his left arm and hand power his swing?

Makes sense. Most kids' swings never recover from clubs that are way too long and heavy. Shows what kind of talent he has.
