I like Cantu shampoo. I’ve only tried the original line. And, no, I don’t see this in my local grocery store. This is the first time I’ve even heard of it. ❤🙏 Thank you!
I find Cantu to be heavy and I have thick, dense hair BUT when I use a teeny amount of the avocado curl activator it is amazing. Can’t handle glycerin in a final layer product but this one works when I layer gel on top of it.
Yes Cantù can be very heavy on the hair. I used the regular Cantù. My hair is very high porosity wavy and curly. I still felt it was greasy after using. Going to give the Cantù flaxseed line a try. I think your hair looked great with the regular Cantù line.👍🌹
After scrunching and fluffing it the bounce and volume was really beautiful, I wonder if a “less is more” approach with another styler would help the heavy feel? I’d love to see this in a “products I didn’t love re-try” video!
I get terrific results with Ouidad. I've tried other brands, and nothing seems to work quite as well as the Ouidad product line (especially the anti-frizz products). I know people seem to think it's 'super expensive" but I did the math, and when I buy the liter bottles, it's less costly than Curlsmith. That doesn't even take into account that they do 30% off sales on the liter bottles every 4-6 weeks. I would love to see a one brand wash day using Twist by Ouidad. I think the products are only available on the internet (not in stores), but they are at a similar price point as drug store products.
Came to the comments to request a Courtney Twist by Ouidad review for the next one brand wash day! 😆 glad others want it too. The whole “essential moisture” collection in the white bottles seems like a great one for fine/dense/wavy!
Hi Courtney the Cantu line is very hit and miss for me. The curl custard works great on my hair, but makes me itch due to how heavily scented they are. I have an eczema prone scalp and struggle to find affordable products in the UK for curly hair, that aren't too fragranced. What I use instead is the Cantu kids custard - works great and is much more lightly scented than their other lines. I have course textured, dry 2c/3a hair that needs a lot of moisture. Custards seem to work better than gels for me, as they're more moisturising. In fact the Cantu kids works much better than the far more expensive Boucleme line for me. I haven't tried their shampoos and conditioners, due to how fragranced they are and I use a fragrance free shampoo eg Eucerin, Boots expert sensitive and E45. The curl cream from the kids line is ok, but I prefer the shea moisture version on my hair. I truthfully never use a one brand washday and cherry pick products from different lines I feel work the best for me. Best wishes.
I am in love with the grapeseed shampoo and conditioner. And the avocado shampoo really works for me as well! Both shampoos are great for clarifying. I'd say I have the same type her as you. Sidenote: the grapeseed smell is really sweet, which i personally love. Not sure if it's gonna be your thing. I got really frustrated how almost everything smelled like coconut or shea butter, which i think both smells super bad. You should do one of these videos for the grapeseed or avocado line! I think those work so much better for more finer waxy curls than the original line.
Love how you’re gorgeous and doing all the CG things to help us while casually saying, “I gave birth about 2 months ago.” Wow. So. Question: hormonal changes after pregnancy? Or hormonal changes in gen as a woman in any stage? I hair was always literally BOARD STRAIGHT my entire life till like a year ago. Also: really loved “pina coladas on steroids.” I’m wavy, and my hair is SUPER long. but my most conditioned/drenched moments are actually curly and not wavy. So I’m clearly doing something wrong
Courtney, it's interesting that your hair stretches out within 2 minutes from the weight of the water. I feel like with my hair I have to rinse out conditioner completely and not use styling products to have nice waves.
I think you should try the Flaxseed shampoo and conditioner and the original gel with the stronger hold. That may be a good compromise combo for you to get both the conditioning and the hold.
I bought this line last year. So far I like it better then the regular and cake and several others that I have used, as for me it's not as moisturizing as the others. I don't use the cream gel as much anymore but still use the shampoo and conditioner each wash day. I was able to get mine at Sally beauty.
Thanks so much Courtney, as ever! You are so informative and helpful! When you have a mo, would you consider reviewing the new Inahsi fragrance free define and shine stylers? Would love to hear your thoughts.
I recently found your channel while venturing into the world of "curly girl". Your tips have helped me sooo much! I tried GCM a few years ago and gave up. I recently started again and am embracing my 2a/2b hair. What do you think of Hairitage? They actually have these number/letter system on their bottles and displays
I'm also a fan of the cantu curl activator, not a product in this line though lol. I think your hair looks extra fluffy and soft from this wash day! I've noticed for me when I apply strong hold products on soaking wet hair that it really doesn't create a cast which is really disappointing especially when the product directs to apply it that way. That situation happened for me with the Curlsmith in Style Shower Fixer. I enjoy the strong holds as well, I just apply it on more damp hair now rather than soaking wet so that cast doesn't just slip away 😊 ( I also have more fine hair, I believe medium density though and inbetween wavy and curly? And colored, If that helps)
I really like the original Cantu shampoo, conditioner and leave-in conditioner. My local grocery store replaced the original with the avocado version. I tried it once and threw it away. It smelled horrible, like the shampoo for color-treated hair. I found the original at Target, so I’m good. My other favorite line of products is the Shea Moisture Coconut Hibiscus. These have an amazing scent, but it doesn’t linger. The only issue I have with those is some of the products are difficult to get out of the bottle.
I'm so sad! I'm glycerin sensitive so I can't use these. Thanks for this video, Courtney. I appreciate the honest review, discussion on ingredients and wish I could use it.
I was getting very Greek goddess like vibes from your face framing parts. But wasn't a super fan of how it did in the back. I noticed I saw basically no frizz when it was wet. Maybe I should chance it for the lack of frizz. 🤣 Do you know what the dew point could have been like when you used this? I would love to see you try more Cantu products. The side by side comparison was great!
Really cute new haircut! I just got the Cantu avocado curling cream to use today - that one smells very light and nice, in case you're looking for a change in scent haha
@@VengefulAngeI honestly, I just tried it and my hair hated the avocado curling cream! It was insanely bad. It had zero slip for me to distribute it through my hair. I was really surprised
Love all your videos, thank you Courtney! I have a question about the Cantu shampoo. Do you consider them to be in the clarifying side or low poo? I have the avocado line and use it only once or twice a month because I thought they were a little stripping 🤷♀️ I do like the fragrance of the avocado line ❤️
Hi Courtney can u try the creme of nature mango and shea butter line so far ive used kaleidoscope miracle drops shampoo and conditioner for the past 6 months even before recently starting the cgm and it made my hair feel soo healthy and I stopped dying and using heat on my hair when I started I was still using the kaleidoscope brand and using creme of nature mango and shea butter leave in conditioner for my refresh day and garnier fructis curl scrunch gel and had pretty good lasting results would be interested on ur thoughts
I have tried the original and the smell was too much, also the gel caused flash drying. I think it was the high amount of aloe and glycerin together but who knows. I think an interesting experiment for this for you would be to use the single styler with the strong hold gel from the other line on top as this didn't have much hold for you but you liked the clumping.
I probably bought those a year ago on the internet. I prefer the avocado line, because I also had the problem with the conditioner from the flaxseed line. Maybe you can review the avocado one in the future.
I would love a wash day using splurge products. The Curl smith protein line was a splurge for me and I will never go back. If you could use some higher end products that might be just the thing for special hair problems. I would appreciate it
The flaxseed line doesn't show up on the Cantu website. I love the avocado oil line. Their website actually shows less lines than what you can find online so I wonder if things are quickly being discontinued. But I can rarely find the avocado line in stores except walmart.
I see them in the Walmarts around where I live all the time. Not sure if I see them anywhere else because I'm not a big fan of that brand & don't really look for them, but Walmart has a fairly large section just for Cantu
One of the reasons I watch you is that your hair is so similar to mine - low porosity and fine. Based on your results I'm going to stay away from this line!
Great videos, just found you today. Trying to embrace my 2b hair naturally. I have a question…I’m noticing in your videos that your really only washing your scalp. Since the gel goes throughout the hair, how to do you clean it thoroughly from the ends of your hair? I don’t want to end up with ends that have build up bec I misunderstood your washing technique. Thanks for the reply!
Hi! Thanks for hanging out here! When I am shampooing I am focusing on my scalp, but towards the end of cleansing I will take the suds and gently squeeze through the rest of the hair. Then rinse. Clarifying occasionally helps too!
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney oh. My. Goodness…this method WORKS! I have short hair but I curl clumped and plopped my curls and they are absolutely amazing! I just purchased some more products to play with! Thanks for the reply! Definitely subbing to your channel!
It doesn't look like you got a ton of definition and it looks weighed down. I was curious about this line because I struggle a lot with Cantu in general. Very interesting!
Hi Courtney, I’m just starting out with the curly girl method with my 2A ish hair. Still getting the hang of it. What’s your tip for when I’m on day 2 and have too much product in my hair. I’ve run to the messy bun but what are my other options? I’m using Deva curl products. I love your videos btw.
I have long, waist length 2A/2B hair that's medium-thick in density but very fine in texture. I tend toward fluffy, frizzy hair, and my hair is not really silky. I use Not Your Mother's Naturals (Blue Sea Kale and Coconut Water Shampoo and Conditioner) and Garnier Fructis Pure Clean Styling Gel. They work very well for me! I can't add product to day 2+ hair other than a light sea salt spray. I keep it in a plop/messy bun at night and if it's not too tangled, I just let it down in the morning and leave it as is. If it's really tangled or frizzy, I go through each wave/curl clump with a wide toothed comb, spritz with sea salt spray, and scrunch. If you aren't careful to do it clump by clump, you will end up with very frizzy and undefined waves. By day 5, sometimes I have to do a messy bun, but I can almost always get 3-4 days without needing to do that. I hope this helps!
I tried Cantu. I hated it. I only wish I liked it. It made my hair heavy and feel dirty. That is the shampoo and conditioner plus stylers. I couldn't even give it away because I wasn't the only one with the same problem. Needless to say I through it away.
I am about to start my curly hair journey (thank you, it was one of your videos I came across that led me to look into this method) Anyways I have heard that ph levels are important when in comes to hair care but can't seem to find alot on ph balanced curly girl method approved products. Do you have any thoughts or tips on this? Again thank you, any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
I wasn’t a fan of the one Cantu product I tried and there are so many other things I want to try that I probably won’t try this line. Your hair did look really nice though. It was kind of a fluffy and relaxed.
I have a love/hate relationship with this brand. 😫🤣🤣🤣 It's WAAAAY too heavy for my hair so I have to dilute most of their products. Plus I can't get ANY of their spray products to spray evenly, I have to spray it in my hand then apply. Just me?!! 🥺🥺😫🤣
