For that size wood I would definitely switch to the Echo CS620P or SX or whatever it is called where you are. I have both and the 620 is a beast compared to the 501p but much heavier. Still love the 501p though for its weight.
@@eugenecrabs3954 I think the 4901 is the non-pro 501p isn't it? My 501P is broken in too but still not a real powerful saw. I much prefer my Husqvarna 550XP Mark II now. Still love the weight of the 501P but the power is lacking.
@@eugenecrabs3954 Ahhh. I hear they really come alive once you port them. I have not yet removed the limiter caps on mine or muffler modded it. I will have to give it a try. Echo's are great reliable saws. The 620P is a beast right from the start though unlike the 501P.
@@Brian-Outdoors Yes! Take the muffler deflector off, both the tube and screen, yes the screen too, it blocks airflow. Then, the little deflector tabs on the deflector can be pushed in with a flat head driver or cut with a dremel. THEN, pull the carb out, lodge a screw driver (flat head) under the little insert that sits over the carb plugs, yank it out. That will make it easier for you to pull of the plugs without boogering them up. After you're done, put the insert back in, that way when you go to tune, your screwdriver wont be sliding everywhere when trying to turn the screws. I'll send a link on how to remove the carb plugs. Then once you get the carb back on, turn the HI jet and SEAT IT. Once it's seated, turn it out 4 turns, yes, FOUR. Echo carbs have a long thread, they turn forever. And that should be a good starting point for tuning. Follow my steps, and you'll have a much better saw! Like I said, I love my 4910 even more since I did all that. Oh and by the way, the 501 is basically a 4910 with a metal wrap and different cdi or mag. Basically a 4910 thats $100 more. Hope this helps! @@iokljy Thanks for the reply, I'm looking at buying this model but am confused as to how much is manufactured in Japan, how much (if any) is Chinese. and if it is assembled in Japan or in USA. I'd prefer a 100% Japanese product.
Shindaiwa is professional and made in Japan I have used a lot of chainsaw...stihl,jonsered, dolmar,alpina.. Shindaiwa is the best for me..It is light, durable..personal opinion
It's called a muffler mod and some real man carburetor tuning! My 4910 I modded the muffler and tuned the carb..... golly days..... that sucker cuts hard!

My 4910 is a BEAST. You know why? IT'S BROKEN IN 11 TANKS. FEELS LIKE A PORTED ONE

@@Brian-Outdoors I tuned mine, fattened up the HI. Usually they come lean from the factory. I also modded the muffler.

Does seem like a decent saw seem like it was struggling a bit.Bogged a few times.husqvarna 455 would of tore through that a lot faster
