@@daraclarke1328 We've noticed a lot more people using trainers over the last year due to lockdown restrictions in many countries. It's good the tech is good enough that the interactive element can make it fun! Yea we prefer riding outside, but that's not always possible for many people.

I got a cheap basic magnetic trainer
About 20 minutes in as I started to kind of sprint, I heard a crack so I stopped.
Turns out the magnets blow out into the wall, the premium tyre melted, smoke came out from inside the trainer, the fire alarm turned on and my wall also had pieces of rubber which flew everywhere.
Needless to say I since gear up and ride outside. My tyre never melted there.

Iv had my wahoo kickr for a couple of weeks and Iv got to say, it’s an absolute game changer. Of course I’d rather be outdoors but with a typical British winter and work it’s an absolute winner. Going to be hitting the race season with ready legs.

I just pulled the trigger on a smart trainer, (tacx neo 2t) it’s an amazing bit of kit, expensive, but I’m amazed by how much better it is than my old non smart fluid trainer that I just didn’t like using. It synced up to my phone, laptop - connected to tv, heart rate monitor, cadence sensors, has in built power meter etc, simulates the terrain, even downhills by ‘providing drive’; it’s also much quieter. Linked to an app, only tried zwift’s free trial so far, where you can compete online, I’m very impressed much more interesting than being bored on the old one. Man maths came together with some logic that initially this will help me return from injury, and then I’ll use to increase fitness when time is at a premium (parenting, commuting and all the other grown up stuff that try’s to get in the way); it folds for easy storage bu t i think it will be permanently set up in the bike shed.

My fluid turbo trainer setup cost me £192 and to be fair it's been pretty good considering. It's made a huge difference when I've not been able to go out with lockdown in place and looking after my kids. My £192 setup consists of the trainer, a turbo tyre and inner tube and a fan!

Only managed to get a wahoo kickr ordered on monday after trying for months to get one in stock, should get it in the next few days. This had come at the right time as i have never used one before and was thinking about going down the Zwift route. By the way, if you buy it direct from Wahoo, it is shipped from Holland and mine was held up at customs for 2 days.

Rollers are good, but you need to keep your concentration whilst riding on them or as Sterby jr says you can have an off. For turbo trainers you can get moving platforms and a connector for the front wheel which moves it up and down as gradients change if you want some side to side and up and down action and if you have money burning a hole in your pocket. Nothing can replicate getting out and riding though.

@Foxtrot Oscar I wasn't saying it suitable for everyone, but if you can, then you should be out on your bike. Nothing wrong with riding in snow either - some of my favourite rides have been in snow but we've not had a decent flurry for 4 or 5 years :(

Very cheap way to get into indor training, but they do wear out your drivetrain. On a cheap 9sp I wouldn't care, but the new 12sp eagle cassette has a heafty pricetag. In my day I did use an older bike with slicks just for the trainer, but it blew up. The trainer, not the bike.
Waiting for the next episode... full bike trainers.

    • @JN-bq4ls
