In this episode of Brad & Lex, the electric guitars earn an "oooh" from Lex off the bat which develops into a slow "concert sway" while Brad expresses his liking to the 90,s track as well as his knowledge of glycerin. Lex calls it nihilistic before brad does a little lyric deciphering before an abrupt outro.
Awesome summary.
It’s like a cliffs notes of Brad and Lex.
I look forward to your analysis of Brad and Lex analyzing the music just as much.
Username checks out... definitely need some heavy benzos to think of things like that 👍🤘
It’s good to have you back. I may have said that in a prior comment, but it bears repeating. Are you a writer? Your fluency and cleverness suggest that.
@@willasacco9898 Hey Willa, I appreciate your positive comments. Am I a writer? As much as anyone in the comments. Accentuating the little things most may not notice is something I gravitate to and trying to show the humor in it is fun.
Dare I say, Brad is breaking through. "This song is what the 90s sounded like..." He's not wrong. "Glycerine? Yeah! What is that? I don't know and I don't care..." Exactly. Sometimes songs and their lyrics invoke imagery in your mind and that imagery is what's important, rather than the literal.
Yeah, this is the thing Brad misses most often, and is what causes the disconnect I think. People don't typically enjoy music because they've "figured it out". It's almost entirely about how the sound makes you feel, whatever the feeling. That's why it's considered a universal language.
The lyrics of Bush are often very subjective and abstract. That seemed pretty standard for a lot of 90s rock.
With some of the songs I have wondered if they even had a true meaning at all?
Yes, this is what the nineties sounded like.
I'm amused. That's what it is. Married here for 25 years. Love to see a young couple analyze these songs like we did long ago.
This really was the feel, the lyrics were everything and nothing. The feel made the song, and so much of it felt new and comfortable at the same time. Then there was the weird for the sake of weird, and that was great too.
The cello in this songs still gives me chills after all this years
yeah this vibe is like Something in the way by Nirvana
Yeah and not that crappy band
Bush is one of the best 90’s bands….still rock them on my playlists…
Brad, you are SO right. Every time I sing along to this song, that’s my favorite line to sing. “That’s just fine, that’s just one of my names.” He sounds so sassy on that one! I agree that this is a tragically beautiful break-up song.
i thought i was the only 1 who loved that line . love it
This song always takes me back to a specific moment in time. 18, living with my cousin in our first apartment, him sitting in the hall on his Amp strumming this song on the guitar while I was in the kitchen and we just sat there singing it together. Crazy how music can make otherwise plain moments so memorable!
One of my all time favorite songs. Hauntingly beautiful.
Ryan Hines sang this in my fourth grade music class. The summer going into 6th grade I heard he died from bone marrow cancer. This song has pure memories and you guys commenting on it hit me hard. You both give me hope. Don’t ever quit on each other. Sometimes the road gets rough but remember it’s still a road of gold. Glad you found each other.
On that point, you all remind me of the 90s. Good friends, nothings perfect, but there’s perfection in the imperfection. Especially when looking back as the world goes crazy. All the love, Burlas
One my fave songs ever!!! ....Glycerine basically is the representation of *explosive* ...at any moment - things will blow up .....a relationship, love ...life ....
I was born in the 70's, but the 90's were my heyday. Bush was my one of me favorite bands at that time!
I was born iun the 70's too. I would have probably owned you in bike races.
@@DonTrump-sv1si Don't know about that, lol! I lived on my bike back then!
@@bradjbourgeois73
Being at the live show and singing it back to them as a crowd, all together, is such an indescribable feeling. It's like butterflies, but different. So happy to see you react to Bush again. If you ever get the chance to see them live, take it. I did. Twice, 22 years apart. They were just as good in 2019 as they were when I saw them back in 1997.
The ‘99 Woodstock performance on UA-cam is worth the watch. It’s incredible to feel the emotion of this song being performed live. Just him and his guitar. Awesome.
@@davidhuhn4879 Before I mentioned it I took a quick look to see if anyone else did first... I concur!

I went to their concert in college and was in the middle of a mosh pit. Was so much fun. Man I miss the 90s music!
Saw them at Red Rocks in Colorado with No Doubt, and Goo Goo Dolls. Amazing!!
Glad you did this one. It's a classic. Sad you never hear it on the radio any more. "Come Down," "Little Things," "Cold Contagious," and "Greedy Fly" are also songs you should check out.
and Alien!
And swallowed!
@@zer01979xyu For sure. And "Mouth" from from American Werewolf in Paris, not Razorblade Suitcase.
If you listen to classic rock stations, you will hear Bush every once in a while.
I know right, for fucks sake, we are stuck in the stratosphere of glycerine for eternity when there's so many better songs than it.
It makes me happy to think Brad will be driving around in the old pickup singing his heart out to Bush. 🤩
To me this is the perfect blend of electric guitar with stringed instruments. It was just masterfully done. This song is definitely a mood.
I love that people are going back and listening to 90s music. I grew up with these songs and seeing people listen to them for the first time and instantly love them goes to show just how good the music was back then. People of all musical tastes hear some 90s music and it's just a whole new level of appreciation. Love it.
Everyone loves Lex's reactions, but when Brad really gets hyped up about a song, it's awesome.
I love her smile and dance moves and head nods, but she NEVER interprets the songs correctly or even gets the general message of them. I’m starting to think she does that on purpose, but if not, then I feel bad for saying that lol. She just seems a little up in the clouds. Or a lot.
YES, thank you, I love this song! It's almost a love song, almost a breakup song, it's about love that was so real, but also really bad for you both. I started crying before the song ended and had to add that whole last sentence to the comment. Love you guys.
I have a fond memory of being a teenager at Pike Place Market in Seattle, buying an acoustic guitar for $200, going to the park behind the market and making my money back playing this song.. good times.. great song to sing..
this is my favorite Bush song without a doubt. A masterpiece of a song.
Gavin Rossdale wrote the song about his then-girlfriend, Suze DeMarchi, Glycerine is a chemical used in perfumes and medicines and also to preserve food. The title comes from the explosive applications of glycerine to stabilize nitro. Rossdale said the song was about how love was like a bomb
Glycerine is built from a group of fat acids, usually three of them - threeglyceriedes.
Glycerol is the base agent used in cleaning agents and perfumes. Same base family though!
I took Glycerine to be a girl's name.
Well, it is a bomb track. Simple and effective.
Bush is like **the** 90's sound. Spot on.
His voice does sound nihilistic: strangely accurate.
I still remember when Gavin played this in the pouring rain for MTV spring break with an electric guitar. One of my memorable CDs from middle school.!
This song is beautiful, especially live. Gavin on the stage all alone with a guitar, no band, no violins...just absolutely gorgeous.
"Sadistic romantic". What a description... Nice song (I will keep it). Thanks for the music!
I was born in the 70’s and the singer of a fairly big band here in Seattle in the 90’s early 2000’s. I have some great memories going at it with girls way out of my league just because I was who I was but I would blast Bush on the radio and it was so erotic....good times....in the early 2000’s it was Chevelle another great band. 🙏 god bless
I'm seeing Bush in 3 weeks time, I haven't seen them perform for 20 years, I can't wait to see them live again. 🤘😁
How was it?
This song meant a lot to me when I was younger. It still holds up.
I've always loved the strings
This was the very first song i completely mastered learning the drums of.
Underrated comment
Guitar isn't much harder. Just 4 power chords. One of the first songs I showed anyone that wanted to learn guitar
I wonder how many people don't catch that there's no drums.
So happy you guys got to this one. 1995- I was standing a few feet away sobbing 😭 while staring into Gavin's eyes as he sang this. I was 15 years old and this was my 1st concert. 💚🤘 Hum, Toadies, & Bush @ The Edge in Orlando
I was there….. lol…… also my first concert at the same age.
The Simpsons, Homer Simpson in particular, did a really impressive cover/impersonation of this song. They called it "Margerine".
what episode is it
@@shaneBchillin "That '90s Show" from the eleventh episode of the nineteenth season :)
That’s how I found out about this song lol
28 years later and I still can't help singing the lyrics to "Don't Stop Believin'" along with this.
This is my favorite song. I've listened to it so many time. An during so many lows an highs in my life.
So many memories, so many feelings.
I loved this band as a child hearing them on the radio, and rediscovered them as a young man in love for the first time. Their music was nostalgia then and it spreads across time now, a decade later. The thoughts of the girl have gone, but that youthful angst drenched drive and wonder are still spread all through their music.
A genuinely important band in the story of my life. 👍
This has been my favorite Brad reaction ever. Great song too! Keep up the great work guys!
Finally! Arguably my favorite song all time. Remember watching Gavin perform Glycerine, in the rain, on mtv.
Iconic performance
Oh man...this song brings me back to high school. My high school sweetheart and I danced to this during at least one dance. Super 90s vibe here
Oh man I love this song. Brings back nostalgic memories from I was a kid.
GWEN STAFANI'S BABIES DADDY LOL...One of the first bands to emerge through the door the grunge bands opened up......their first hit was their best song.
This is song time warps me right back to the 90s doing the drag on a Saturday night.
Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale wrote 'Glycerine' about his then-gf back in 1993 named Suze DeMarchi... the song referring to her skin, her beauty and fragrance (Glycerine is a compound that is used to smoothen skin from dryness & infections) ... The track is just Gavin on guitar w/ a cello accompanying it - 'Glycerine' became a huge hit on MTV in 1995... Bush's debut album 'Sixteen stone' would sell 6 million copies in the US.
The Wife here...Wore this song out in the nineties...Absolutely loved the musical structure and lyrics...Bush is my favorite nineties band..
Classic. You could tell Brad was into it because he didn't pause to analyze on the bridge between first chorus and second verse like he always does.
What a great song, I've always loved it. Totally understand what Brad is talking about how you can really get into it. The vocals are great and you really feel those emotions.
You need to watch the Spring Break Live version. One of the greatest moments in music history, no joke. There was a big lightning storm coming and they said to cancel the performance but Gavin said NO, ppl came to watch me perform and they are going to get that. So he went out there by himself and performed a fucking knockout show of this song. While being drenched in rain and could die from electrocution at any moment. Not only was lightning a danger but using electronic gear while in the rain in like 97 was extremely risky.
Seeing Lex wearing her pumpkins shirt makes my heart swell.
I think Brad found his group. Never seen him go back to replay on a track lol...🤭🤭🤭
This was definitely a 90's Soul Jam!!!
Comedown is a must listen from this album!
Lex I’ve listened to a lot of ur guys’ reactions and I’m always with you! The way u explain things and feel it! Love it
'Swallowed' and 'mouth' were other somewhat nostalgic songs by Bush that conveyed melancholy grit..
Great choice. Bush had so many good songs. Takes me back to the mid-90’s. I was working at the post office 5:00AM - 2:00PM. I would hear Bush on 96 Rock then go home and catch the videos on MTV or VH1.
Definitely the sound of the ‘90’s!!!! Enjoyed them in my 20’s and had a blast with all the great music! 👍🏻❤️😎
My kids were in their teens, and I loved Bush, too.
👀 Oh its just brad talk-singing again 😄 Lol This is most def THE Bush song that most ppl remember. Come Down is prob my fav. Its up there w this one, Machine Head, Everything Zen.. ✌❤ And brad, you're absolutely right! This IS what the 90s were abt!! ☝️
This is one of those songs I remember where I was and what I was doing the first time I heard it on the radio and instantly loved it. Wanted to sing along to it but didn’t even know it yet.
Growing up and being a teenager we had the best music. The 90s and early 2000s was the best time .
This song came out when I was about 17 and was my favorite song and now I’m 43 and it’s still a fave and on my playlist. 🖤🎶
Man I miss the 90's! Lol
Oh the memories and the time. I was in middle school aka junior high when this came out.
Seen them in concert in 96 with No Doubt good show
My first dance with my first crush was to this song. Were still good friends to this day and the song is a running joke between us.
"Space Travel" is another good one.
Relevant message as well.
Ah, another flashback to my young teen years. I was really into this song. Great reaction!
Thank you for sharing this with me
This actually was one of the top songs of the 90's.
I remember Gavin coming out on stage (25? years ago)....with just his guitar and he belted this out. Holy shit it was amazing. That concert was off the charts. Fuck I miss the 90's. :)
I think this is my favorite Bush song. Gavin Rossdale is a talented singer and Bush is a completely underrated rock band. They did rule a part of the 90s for awhile though.
I dont think theyre under rated. Just not played like it use to. Not trollin.
Great song. Good choice. Thanks for another quality selection you two.
Man, they played this song SO much on the radio. ❤
The lyrics from bands like Bush and Deftones you got to love them
Didn’t expect brad to react this way and it’s great to see him finally just say “I don’t care it sounds good” lex keep vining bahbahh
Yes, Bradster: You nailed it! Perfectly part of the 90’s sound track
I like Brads take here. I think he would like come down. Another Bush masterpiece. Love you guys. Thanks.
Usually Brad has poker face, but you could see his little smile through the song especially near the end, the moment a verse or certain sound changes everything!
The strings in this song always reminded me of Jars of Clay.
Such an encapsulating song. One of those that will always be timeless.
Wow, Brad goes deep and totally gets it, both sonically and lyrically. Nice.
You guys make me happy. Thanks for exuding #relationshipgoals and just a home feel on your channel. Really enjoy reliving old songs with you. Team Brad and Lex over here.
Omg! You guys are hilarious 🤣 You’re such an adorable, lovable couple!
Recently saw Bush. They tore it up! it was one of the best shows I've attended in a while.
This song almost made Brad giddy! I love it! This song brings back memories of me being a kid in our living room watching the music video on tv w my siblings and my brother’s friend Richie. We were in a trance by the song. Wonderful memories… great reaction guys 🙋🏻♀️🙌🏼👏🏼👍🏼💜🇨🇦
One of my favorites!! Great reaction!
My favorite song ever ... tied with thunderstruck . Gavin hits your soul.
This is a regret-love song... Loss, regret, longing, and hey that's just the way I am... Perfect soundtrack of the 90's.
As a 90s Alternative grunge kid/teen my favorite band & song. First CD I ever purchased was 16 Stone
Bush- letting the cables sleep. One of my favorites, if you ever get the chance don't pass on this 🤘😎🤘
and you are correct Brad! It's what the 90's rock felt like. Put on some '94 DJ Premier for the hip hop feel
It's a very haunting song. Melancholic.
yup that was the 90s vibe
Bush, Sixteen Stone is definitive 90's. Soooo good.
Never forget running around as a toddler jamming to this album. (I was born in 1990)
Yes, my dad was cool.
This is one of my favorite songs of the 90s.
Thank you so much for reacting to this song!
Bush is one of those bands where it doesn't get better or worse. Every single song (personal opinion of course) are top tier. To this day they still pump out music, and they sound exactly the same as they did back when. You's should deffs check out more of their music!
I love this song. I love a grunge song with strings.
More Bush songs
This song was my bio mom’s favorite song. she used it as her alarm sound, and i slept with her every night, so as a little 5-6 year old his voice and the song in general would scare my to death every morning. however, im so grateful that i did hear it every morning, because now that im older, i can listen to this song in her memory.
This was the first song I ever slow danced to at the school dance, her name was Mandy and she picked me... this is one of those "significant life moment" songs, and I bet my life there's hundreds of similar stories based on this song... and I find that to be really quite amazing....
That whole album is killer .
This song makes me cry letting to many days go by. Pretty much says live your life spend time with your family. It will all be gone one day enjoy it while it is here.
The first big post-pandemic show I saw in Australia was these guys. When they played this song the whole crowd went nuts singing along and it was bloody amazing.
I was at the concert at the fox theater in Atlanta when they filmed the music video for this 1995
Glycerin is “a slippery substance”.
Great reaction video! 90’s was the best time for music
