Did anyone else notice that teddys voice is the dads voice-- Alright so I made this 2 years ago, and should really elaborate on a theory (I'm not even re-watching this video so a lot of this may be repeated.) Should start with- Teddy is a gift from the child's dad, who is divorced from his mom, and his mother wouldn't let his father see him- and may not have joint-custody anymore. Note I say- 'anymore' because Teddy is a representation of what the child DOES know of his dad before he isn't aloud to see him anymore, hence why the mom gets so angry when he drops off the present at the beginning of the game. Or- He still has joint-custody but doesn't get to have the child very-often and that may be the phone-call the mom gets in the beginning of the game as well, it could be lawyer or something (I don't know how joint-custody works don't @ me) Now, to the monster. The child's mom is clearly an alcoholic, and the monster is the representation of his mother while drunk or angry- which is why the screen shakes when the dad stops by to drop off the present, the mother was angry, like she is throughout the game as the 'monster'. The child finds his time with his dad safe, and Teddy (the dad) was protection from the monster until Teddy was taken away from his drunk mom in her rage, which is why you see her with it at the end of the game. Anything you see throughout the game, is going on inside the kids head, and it's all him trying to hang onto the happy memories after his mother found him out of his room in night, clearly making her mad. The child- as a 2-year-old, doesn't believe this monster is his mother, because he still has so many happy memories with her its hard for him to see them as the same thing. At the end, the mother was calm- crying, but calm- and that's why he sees her as his mother in their house instead of some monster. Of course not all of this will be accurate, I haven't watched this game in a while- and was only brought back here because I oddly (and unexpected-ly) got so many likes and replies that my original statement was kinda bland and obvious. So if you've read this all, thanks!
Great job but you missed the fact that Teddy and the father's voice sound very similar/are the same. This implies that Teddy is the baby's subconscious representation of the positive protective feelings he associates with his father. Similar to how he sees the mother and the swamp monster as two separate identities, he does the same with his father only in this case its with Teddy and the Trench Coat monster. This is further confirmed when you pay closer attention to Teddy's dialogue in the game, a LOT of times (almost all) he sounds less like a sentient Teddy Bear and more like a parent playing with the baby.
Centipede no the swamp monster is the mother, the trench coat is obviously the father due to how it's trying to get you to represent the father trying to fight for the child's custody. And the bottle thing could be how the father knows the mothers drinking habits and is seeing if everything's okay. Due to how she abuses you when you break them.
TBH since the parents argued in the beginning i got the idea that they BOTH might be abusive to the child, and that the voice/teddy at the end was a social worker and not the father. this is a really, really good explanation though !!
I actually thought the trenchcoats were also a representation of the mother, since there's a hallway where if you knock over a bottle or otherwise make a loud noise, the trenchcoat monster storms in, and in the final reveal, one of the mother's repeated comments is to be quiet. Which could also explain why the child still doesn't talk at age two, alongside no doubt developmental issues from trauma and abuse. Plus, aren't Teddy and the father the same voice? I also wanna bring up what I noticed; the objective of the whole game of course is that the child and Teddy are looking for mommy, and they do this by finding memories while evading the monsters that represent drunk, angry mother. The memories are all of sweet, tender moments. This says to me that the child is desperately trying to hold on to the good times, when mommy isn't scary and mean.
This is a game all stupid parents should see. It really makes a lot of psychological sense and gives a good understanding of a child's mind and how they see things, especially when their parents split up. Divorce is an ugly, ugly monster.
It happens because it's tears in the kids eyes. He doesn't like seeing mom angry which makes him cry. Since when mom drinks, she gets angry. The kid sees mom as the monster when she's angry,
I have also noticed that the voice of the man at the ending is strikingly similar to the voice of Teddy. Perhaps because the man is a sign of comfort, so he should be associated with teddy, and because he gave teddy to the player. I know this is a small fact, but take it as you will.
HE IS. He's the one who gave the teddy. He's the one who protected him from the Monster a.k.a. the Mom. The Man could have been the boy's father or a social worker. In certain parts of the game, the Mom sometimes says "NO!" and stuff ( ex: "He can't take you away from me"; forgot what part the mom said this at ) . What R3alt4lk says is a theory. Not 100% true. Same with this theory. The Mom abuses her son when she's drunk. However, I believe R3alt4lk was right when he was talking about the boy believing that whenever she got drunk, She would become a monster.
Never knew such a cool and scary game would be this creative and screwed up. Kind of makes me think of what kids might see parents hen going through these situations.
I love to speculate. No one has mentioned the lady and the little girl in the puzzle piece picture. Maybe the mom had a miscarriage, & it was a little girl. Maybe that is why she has become a drunkard, (that, & of course the stressed relationship with the boy's father over who gets custody over the boy) Maybe that's why she resents the boy so much when she's drunk, because he looks like his father & she wanted a baby girl. But in reality it doesn't really matter, I like that there's some mystery to it all.
blackrosezez one of the pictures thrt change as you get closer to it changes from a mother reading a book with her daughter and a toy then daughter toy and book and then just daughter and book. Could mean something
blackrosezez No, if you read the prologue it shows that the father was abusive to the mom so she packed them up. Then, haunted by the past, became an alcoholic. But, that was a good theory. However, I feel that they needed to show a dark side to the dad and a good side to the mom, because you have to dig beneath the surface to get the truth.
My theory(not saying it's fact so plz don't hate) Teddy is a symbol of his father who "will keep him safe". Since the father isn't allowed to see his child, in the beginning he plays with him since he never spent that father-son quality time. He showed him the closet to show him a hiding spot when his mother gets dangerous. It also explains why he has an older man's talking voice. Which could just be his father's. Before the divorce, his father must have been very important to him as the child finds safety, happiness and comfort when he is around Teddy(when he hugs him). And that would explain the mother's hatred towards Teddy each time he plays with him. Note also at the beginning the mother never directly gave the gift to her son. After their first play date, the mother steals Teddy from the son's hand, knocks his crib down and puts Teddy in the washing machine. The mother is also the monster that never actively looks for the child insinuating that she ignores him and when he enters her sight, she violently goes towards him to attack him. The father is seen once as the monster with the trench coat who tries to save his son when he is falling down and since he can't be physically there, he grabs Teddy's hand and Teddy holds the son making the father connect with his son through the bear giving it a voice, a personality and need to protect the son(from the beginning Teddy knows who the son is and becomes very friendly and protective). Teddy's hand breaks insinuating the fathers failure to be with his son and the child falls into darkness as he is stuck with his mother and as he approaches her, she screams and pushes the son, ending his dream and making him wake up. The father is portrayed as an abusive and bad man, but the truth might actually be that the mother was an alcoholic before the divorce and the father got angry at her and when she got tired of his complaining, she swore to raise the child herself. Tell me what you guys think!
You explained that really good but i think you got some things wrong. I think the so called "coat monster" is the mom trying to not show the baby what she's wearing to the bar to flirt with men. Also to cover herself from the rain. The teddy bear is the dad the baby has great memories with the dad and see's him as a nice teddy bear in the toddlers imagination. When the teddy is floating he is grabbed by the mother because she doesn't want the toddler to remember the father. I think the mother puts Teddy in the washer to damage the teddy bear so that she has a reason to throw it away. The drip monster is the mother over a hangover so good for that. The book reminds the child of the mom drinking her alcohol. But of course that's what i think the main story is. If you seen the prologue here's what it means The toys are gifts from the father this is where the whole divorced mom and dad part comes in. There on a vacation when the mom's alcohol addiction comes in. That's when the dad stops the mom by hitting her. What the mom does is spy on the toddler seeing how he care's so much about the dad by trying to get the toys making the mother cry. In the end the child goes outside when the mother thinks its enough and the toy reaches out same as the toddler as the toddlers memory fades away. If you think this makes sense and please comment. Screen becomes blurry when monster is near= Toddler crying because doesn't want another beating
Yeah but at the end she hits the child to make it go away. The trench coat is always chasing the child, if she was the coat why would she spend all her time chasing him then when he goes to her, hit him and make him go away.
Mario Rizo thanks for sub! Unfortunately with some of my explanation vids the info is sourced from elsewhere, especially if it's been a while since i've played the game, or in some cases, I never get around to playing them :/. Recently I've been working on some more original work ie 'The Philosophy of the Talos Principle' but it takes a lot more time and nets a lot fewer views. As far as I can tell, most people seem to just want a quick explanation and don't seem bothered by the lack of originality. Thanks for watching :)
Buuhh-.-stop hating,if you think that all of that explaining that he did was from wikipedia then 1. why did you even watch the video 2.he would've stuttered & 3.why are you on the comments saying that anyway when you know you were also confused about the game and you came on here to watch the video for help-.-then ylu
This is my theory so please don't hate on me!! My Theory is that the mother and father had a divorce right? Well when the toddler was in the kitchen with Teddy he saw a monster attacking somebody! I think the father was arguing with the mother to stop her drinking problems and when he enters the lounge room he sees a monster hurting somebody well I think it was the mother (who was a alcholic ) grabbed the father and attacking him which leaves him leaving the mother and child, so then the toddler received a gift from the father which was a teddy to play with it, but the teddy was the father watching him to protect him from the mother aka the monster. The toddler had horrible memories with the mother because she was drinking which leaves him drawing his mother being a monster abusing him. Than the mother put the baby and the teddy in the crib and when it was nightime the mother grabbed the teddy slowly and put him in the washing machine because the mother knew that the teddy was the father watching him, then she flipped the crib over and then the baby rescues the teddy and then they go off to a Journey to escape the horrible memories of the mother and the monster with teddy, the mother had to take Teddy away from the toddler at the end because she didn't want her son to go to her father. The todder was out of the closet with Teddy's arm and went to the kitchen to see his mother with a botte and drinking. The toddler went to grab Teddy off of thr mother which leads him to getting pushed by the mother. Then the toddler heard the knock and went over to see his father with the teddy and the father finally was able to take him and the teddy with him. That is why there were tons of boxes when the 2 year old toddler was out of his room, because he was moving with his father. This is my theory! So please don't hate on me and I don't think this theory is true sl please dont hate on me :(
Well yea the mother was the monster all along and that big monster must be the mother so the dad was trying to save the baby but then where was the dad tho he could be a monster?
One thing you missed: In the dlc prologue, the baby walks through his father's house, seeing memories almost all the time. They explain why the parents divorced. Apparently the father had been abusive and would hit the mother; there's a quick memory where the mom is on the floor and the dad is standing over her with his hand raised like he was going to hit her. This caused the mother to be an alcoholic, to try and get away from her problems. As you go through the father's house, boxes start blocking your path to anywhere but the door, meaning the mother was moving out with her child. When you find your last missing stuffed animal, the mother finds you and picks you up, saying, "It's too much." Confirming that everything that was happening in the memories were abusive. Everything else that happens after that was up to the child's imagination. (Dear lord sorry for such a long post but hey thanks for reading through it!)
Smithy 54321, yeah. Right. Anyways the mother should have allowed the father to see his dear child, us, the player who was his two year old son. But too bad she didn't let him see us/his son. Instead she just took the gift from him and bought it to us/the son/the baby. How rude of her! What a mother! But I think that at least happened and it was a good thing that they left the mother alone. She deserves to not have a husband or a child because of her baby abusing habit! Though I feel a bit pity for her, but I am not changing my mind! Plus isn't Teddies voice was familiar to our/the kid/the baby's father. I think the father gifted his son Teddy so that he could help him on his journey.
why would the coat monster be the father? in the game the coat monster grabs your Teddy bear and then we can see the mother holding Teddy while crying, so clearly the coat monster is also the mother. at the beginning of the game before all those adventures, we can see from in the kitchen the black figure in the living room, or the room with the TV. and if you look closely, it's holding an umbrella. why, cuz it's raining. Rain coat? Umbrella? both point to the conclusion that the mother is also the coat monster
Sandy the UA-camr wolf Teddy is a symbol of his father who "will keep him safe". Since the father isn't allowed to see his child, in the beginning he plays with him since he never spent that father-son quality time. He showed him the closet to show him a hiding spot when his mother gets dangerous. It also explains why he has an older man's talking voice. Which could just be his father. Teddy's hand breaks insinuating the fathers failure to be with his son and the child falls into darkness.
I like how this game doesn't go with the extremely common theme of demonising the father by default like society always does and seeing the mother as the Saint. Too often mothers are given custody despite arrows pointing to obvious signs of abuse and despite the father even having evidence to suggest this. People need to stop automatically shaking their heads at the father whenever a mother just suggests something. Too often people accept the words of others with the complete absence of evidence which leads to abuse way too often, like in this game.
The story itself really kinda touched my heart, there are so many little details about what the child has experienced and in what situation he is or has been. Krillbite really tried to give us some sort of message, or at least a thing to think about. To see what that kid was going through with that cutesy type of artstyle and a lot of hidden messages that, when you think about them all feel kind of emotional.
Great explanation.. the game itself really connected with me as my mother may not be alcoholic, but my parents are indeed divorced. I suffer from depression and this game was cool to find and even better when it was explained. Thanks
Hey, Krillbite developer here. I just wanted to say that I really liked your video! It's very interesting to hear your takes on it, and you did an excellent job. Keep it up!
Nice job that really cleared it for me thank you! my favourite character is teddy he reminds me a little bit oft Ted, but at the beginning when you ignore the mothers shouts , when he says "we need to find a dark place" he sounds Mike Pedo"Bear" xD
When this game first came out I had no clue on what it was about, and now I’m just like “dang this game has a genuine and meaningful story that has a lot of depth behind it.” And the story is actually quite beautiful when you realize that the trench coat monster is the dad trying to look for and save his son from the swamp monster portrayed by the mom being an alcoholic.
The coat monster is still the mother when she is angry as teddy says in the enhanced version at the museum level it comes out when the kid is making a mess
I played Among the sleep when I was younger, about 20 yo. at that time, it was fascinating to think how a child can imagine and make sense of thing they can't possibly understand, how fear they can't understand manifests to them. No I'm blessed with a daughter and many time I remember that game and reminds me of how careful I should be about what she sees, hears and experiences. That game made me understand that a child psyche is fragile and that without daddy and mommy close, they would live in fear of everything. I had to force my way into getting approval to work from home just to be near my daughter, not be absent for 10 hours a day in the name of some job.
Wow! I should have known all along! So the teddy was the dad but the mom gets drunk for some reason and the child try's to find his mom but his mom turns into a monster also the dad came back to take the child away from the mom because the mom is drunk and the dad takes the child away far away from the mom then they had a happy life together
But you missed something... In coryxkenchens gameplay of among the sleep in the closet u hear a dripping sound which I noticed had a red liquid dripping from some where above u... Could this liquid be acohal or blood?
Hey I’ve got something that I really want to say here. So this game might be “horror” and scary, but I don’t get scared. I cry. I cry because this game is 85% more sad, then horror or scary. And I love how the teddy bear instructs the kid (player) what to do in the start of the game, and while it continues. Somehow making him ready,...or preparing him for something, which is what happens when he wakes up. I also love how teddy, says that he can hug him if or when his scared and protects him and tells him what to do in order to keep him safe.
Sorry about that, but you have not searched correctly and studied your subject. This is a good analysis, but some elements are at the state of theories. Those theories have been explained in the museum (search among the sleep museum, listen to teddy and pay attention to all the texts written under the artworks and 3d models) and other theories have been explained in the prologue. (again search among the sleep prologue) I like your videos, continue like that.
What I like about this game is that you can actually see hints that the mother is an alcoholic from the very start of the game and that the scene at the end is just an explanation for the player of what the toddler has been seeing. For example: -The mom has a wine stain on her shirt at the beginning of the game. It's not easy to spot at first, but it's around the collar of her shirt. -There are white chalk drawings of Hyda AKA The witch (the monster in the swamp) all around the levels, indicative by the spikey, branch-like hair and the skirt. Hyda also resembles the monster present in the drawings to some extent. -At some point, you need to sneak past Hyda through a swamp and then a library. You can hide under the bookcases and the desks. Looking directly at Hyda while too close will cause distorted vision, but looking at Hyda while far enough away allows the player to see her clearly. *When not pursuing the player and after walking around for a little while, Hyda will perform an idle animation that looks like she is taking a swig of a drink, indicated by her holding her hand to her mouth and tilting her head back as if she was drinking from a bottle.*
Realtalk "Excuse my German" You mean excuse your Norwegian? :) Sorry, had to reply here because for some reason UA-cam won't let me post an independent comment... always has to be replying to another one.
Wow,I never thogut I would find a video that would explain this game until I found this video:)You did such a great job explaining everything step by step and especially the parts of the game that ally of people got confused on.I subscribed to your channel because tbh I really was confused, but thanks to you I understand it now:)
It could be that a grandmother has a place in this. The little girl in the painting must be the mom (Zoey) and she is with her mom but her mom was always like what she is now, an alcoholic. And she hates remembering all of this and on top of that the divorce. In the beginning when she will give you the second piece of cake (frosting) The dad is at the door and tries to get in to see the child but you can faintly hear "What are you doing here?" "Get out" and the one everyone can hear "NO". The mom doesn't like how he gave the boy a teddy and she wants to ruin it so she can throw it away and the boy will have no memory of the father. The monsters are all her Cloak: To cover herself so she won't be suspicious. Idk why it's a 2 year old. Dude with the umbrella: Hangover she will look like a dude with a hangover. Swamp monster: When she is drunk Her at the ending pushing you away means that she doesn't want to the boy to see what she is. But LaDy He SaW yOu like dis! All the memories are good and something the boy wants to hang on to. The closet is something he goes into to hide from her. When she pulls you out she is a bit tipsy already. And when you see the bear floating she was grabbing it. When you go into the swamp it means you are closer to her or in the kitchen or her room. The ending could be a social worker got there or the dad. Idk you tell me. It's just a theory.
Ama -zing XD to understand : mom was drinking. Dad was fighting with her. The child is seeing monsters. He views them as his parents. The mom wants the baby, I don’t know why. Probably because they aren’t together anymore. So she thinks that he would not be a good dad. When you get teddy from the end she says she is sorry. Because she drinks. That’s really all I know. Hoped that cleared you up.
I just subscribed to you and I love your accent. ^w^ People always doubt dat i was born in france becus i dont hav an accent. But i guess dat livivng in the US for a while removed my accent! ^w^
It’s kind of funny how the child wants to stay with his mom and is afraid of his father. It’s a psychological phenomenon that children go through when dealing with abusive parents. They are so focused on getting positive reinforcement from the parent, that when the other parent comes in to defend the child they’ll see them as the villain, due to them wanting so badly to please the abusive parent.
You missed the 3rd monster, which is called The Playground Stranger that appears in the house and represents the mother when she comes back from buying alcohol after a storm. And the trench-coat is actually another representation of the mother 'cause it only shows up when you knock over a bottle.
*the mom is both the coat monster and the monster because she took teddy which is the dad away from the baby because she doesn't want his dad to take him away*
there's actually a third monster, the first monster you encounter. his name is "harald", a black shadow figure with an umbrella. the frizzy haired one is hyda and the coat is heap
I like the switch roles here usually in these divorce stories its always the father being the "bad" guy of the relationship and the drunk while the mother is the kind and the ones that cares while in reality it can apply to both regardless my parents are divorced but im lucky both of them arent drunks or abusers even though i technically have a better time getting along with my dad than my mom i still love my mom just as much as i love my dad
This explenation is great Most of us who finished the game did find out the mother was a alcoholic and that the monster represented the mother but I bet most of us didn't know about most of the things you said
I wish you could have pointed out that the father and teddy had the same voice. It could mean that the toddler has heard his father's voice a lot when he comes to visit but never really saw him. So when you get teddy you embodied that voice unto him. Just a thought
The drawing on a door when you head to your mothers room is of the mom and the child Her hair is drawn frizzy with a tank top and shorts, maybe that’s why the swamp monster looks this way?
Now i'm confused... At the part where the baby had the final memory and was about to go down the tube, i question if the father was the "Coat Monster." It seemed to me that the baby was being pulled or dragged as he was holding onto Teddy and as he was about to slide down the tube. After that, the kid was dragged to the hole right before the tube and left to hang. So if the "Coat Monster" was his father, would the baby have been pulled toward it when he was about to fall rather than doing nothing?
The mother is a drunk who beats her son, and the father is a good guy who left due to her refusal to quit drinking.. he still loves his mom but is also afraid of her, the father shows up like a savior in the end..
Did anyone else notice that teddys voice is the dads voice--
Alright so I made this 2 years ago, and should really elaborate on a theory (I'm not even re-watching this video so a lot of this may be repeated.)
Should start with- Teddy is a gift from the child's dad, who is divorced from his mom, and his mother wouldn't let his father see him- and may not have joint-custody anymore. Note I say- 'anymore' because Teddy is a representation of what the child DOES know of his dad before he isn't aloud to see him anymore, hence why the mom gets so angry when he drops off the present at the beginning of the game.
Or- He still has joint-custody but doesn't get to have the child very-often and that may be the phone-call the mom gets in the beginning of the game as well, it could be lawyer or something (I don't know how joint-custody works don't @ me)
Now, to the monster.
Yep
I hear that voice like dad!
Frostyfox 6782 yup
I did
The mother is the monster and the teddy is the dad
Great job but you missed the fact that Teddy and the father's voice sound very similar/are the same. This is further confirmed when you pay closer attention to Teddy's dialogue in the game, a LOT of times (almost all) he sounds less like a sentient Teddy Bear and more like a parent playing with the baby.
No, I think the trench coat demon was the alcoholic mother. Remember how you triggered her/it by breaking the bottles on the crates?
Centipede no the swamp monster is the mother, the trench coat is obviously the father due to how it's trying to get you to represent the father trying to fight for the child's custody. And the bottle thing could be how the father knows the mothers drinking habits and is seeing if everything's okay. Due to how she abuses you when you break them.
Alex Blake true
Oh.... that's sad.
@@ryancarson6962 It's the mother. Did you even play the game?
TBH since the parents argued in the beginning i got the idea that they BOTH might be abusive to the child, and that the voice/teddy at the end was a social worker and not the father. this is a really, really good explanation though !!
Social workers are ghei
@@finnishwehraboo8377 Yes. Yes they are. Social workers are very, very ghei.

This is a game all stupid parents should see. It really makes a lot of psychological sense and gives a good understanding of a child's mind and how they see things, especially when their parents split up.
Divorce is an ugly, ugly monster.
Sooo true,liked PREECHH!!!
My parents are divorced it sucks
+MissKitty 33 Mine too. I was eight years old. The yelling and fighting scared me... :'(
yeah, my parents got divorced and I couldn't stop drawing pictures of the whole family for about a year.....
And alcohol
Now i know why his vision gets blurred when the mother opens the door, she's a monster when she is angry.
xXRodrigoPlaysXx or she and him is high
ohhhhhhhhhh ya.....
It happens because it's tears in the kids eyes. He doesn't like seeing mom angry which makes him cry. Since when mom drinks, she gets angry. The kid sees mom as the monster when she's angry,
Mik oh wow that's so sad
However, I believe R3alt4lk was right when he was talking about the boy believing that whenever she got drunk, She would become a monster.
ilyriandevil holy crap u wrote a loooooooooooooooo [oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot
ilyriandevil no body liked your comment but me (im the only like on your comment)
Raen Kuykendall maybe it's the dad
Raen Kuykendall
Never knew such a cool and scary game would be this creative and screwed up.
Kind of makes me think of what kids might see parents hen going through these situations.
I love to speculate. No one has mentioned the lady and the little girl in the puzzle piece picture. Maybe the mom had a miscarriage, & it was a little girl. Maybe that is why she has become a drunkard, (that, & of course the stressed relationship with the boy's father over who gets custody over the boy)
Maybe that's why she resents the boy so much when she's drunk, because he looks like his father & she wanted a baby girl.
It's the baby you probably play.
blackrosezez
blackrosezez if it was a miscarriage how would the kid know
My theory(not saying it's fact so plz don't hate)
Teddy is a symbol of his father who "will keep him safe".
Finally, something that actually makes sense.
the game released a museum chapter that explains the story
I'll have to check it out
I think the monster is always the mother I think the son was about to fall and the mother panicked and tried to save him but failed ripping Teddys arm
Yay
The real thing is.... the dad isn't the "Coat monster" its the "Teddy"
Explain
Wait but the REAL monster is the mom
SMexY KitTy yes it’s the mom when she drinks because when the mom drinks, he doesn’t view her as him mom but more like a monster
I thought it was the alcoholic mom
@@J00EE she us an alcoholic mom but the baby views his mom as a monster
If you seen the prologue here's what it means
The toys are gifts from the father this is where the whole divorced mom and dad part comes in.
Lilac Furak oh yea nice one
Lilac Furak ya same with u u wrote a loooooooooooooooo [ oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot
Lilac Furak No he didn,t
That a Real good Reason
Yeah but at the end she hits the child to make it go away. The trench coat is always chasing the child, if she was the coat why would she spend all her time chasing him then when he goes to her, hit him and make him go away.
Great explanation! The explanation is so great, it's fluent and correctly explained. You now have a new subscriber, great job!!!
It was straight from Wikipedia
Mario Rizo thanks for sub! Unfortunately with some of my explanation vids the info is sourced from elsewhere, especially if it's been a while since i've played the game, or in some cases, I never get around to playing them :/. Recently I've been working on some more original work ie 'The Philosophy of the Talos Principle' but it takes a lot more time and nets a lot fewer views. As far as I can tell, most people seem to just want a quick explanation and don't seem bothered by the lack of originality. Thanks for watching :)
Buuhh-.-stop hating,if you think that all of that explaining that he did was from wikipedia then 1. why did you even watch the video 2.he would've stuttered & 3.why are you on the comments saying that anyway when you know you were also confused about the game and you came on here to watch the video for help-.-then ylu
you go around tryng to talk s**t-.-like think before you talk:/
Umm who are you talking to?
So please don't hate on me and I don't think this theory is true sl please dont hate on me :(
I hate you!!!!!
Not kinda bad kido
@Kitty Kat has choco let So the father hits her with the bear?
People who are about to get divorced should play the game and watch this video
You should never be forced to be married to someone just for the child's sake.
Divorce means a bad marriage is over. But the father should have gotten custody. The mom is just so unbelieveably horrible.
Helena Johannesen not forced but, you should put the child before you
Helena Johannesen or should be having sex responsibly or not at all but oh well accidents happen because you can't have it both ways
why would the coat monster be the father? in the game the coat monster grabs your Teddy bear and then we can see the mother holding Teddy while crying, so clearly the coat monster is also the mother.
at the beginning of the game before all those adventures, we can see from in the kitchen the black figure in the living room, or the room with the TV. and if you look closely, it's holding an umbrella. why, cuz it's raining. Rain coat? Umbrella? both point to the conclusion that the mother is also the coat monster
Who else thinks Film Theory should do a theory on Among The Sleep.
Paula Rocha you mean game theory?
Yeah, I got cunfused.
Dont You Mean GameTheory?
Paula Rocha it's game theorists
ME MEME ME
But I only loved the Teddy and the two year old

i almost cry when you said about the plots and how the child is seen in his own way.....
My parents are divorced, and this game kind off helped me coop with it except my dad is the monster and mom is the guy and the end in the light.
Im so sorry Hamstergangster :(
TheHamsterGangster 101 I honestly feel bad for you dude, so sorry
TheHamsterGangster 101 i feel bad for you dude.

😂
Keep it up!
kamphare Thanks lad
I doubt you are the REAL Krillbite developer.
Realtalk actualy the father is evil because he abused the mother in the prologue dlc. He's propably the reason why she has this drinking problem.
Er du den ekte Krillbite?
Nice job that really cleared it for me thank you! my favourite character is teddy he reminds me a little bit oft Ted, but at the beginning when you ignore the mothers shouts , when he says "we need to find a dark place" he sounds Mike Pedo"Bear" xD
It almost made me cry listing to the explained story
The feels
When this game first came out I had no clue on what it was about, and now I’m just like “dang this game has a genuine and meaningful story that has a lot of depth behind it.” And the story is actually quite beautiful when you realize that the trench coat monster is the dad trying to look for and save his son from the swamp monster portrayed by the mom being an alcoholic.
I am now sad.
The coat monster is still the mother when she is angry as teddy says in the enhanced version at the museum level it comes out when the kid is making a mess
Yep
The picture is probably the swamp monster with her daughter. It looks just like in the beginning just without a roof and kitchen
Growing up in an abusive home with an alcoholic family, it was hard for me to play this game
Sorry man x
That weird girl/something from the thumbnail remind me of MAMA from MAMA the movie
thats mom
swekzu AA you don't know what's she talking about
I played Among the sleep when I was younger, about 20 yo. at that time, it was fascinating to think how a child can imagine and make sense of thing they can't possibly understand, how fear they can't understand manifests to them.
What about the prologue? I didn't get that AT ALL.
It sorta makes you cry when u here the full story even tho I already knew the storyline from watching tons of youtubers play it
I can't believe that his mom with drunk
the mother is the monster and
the father is a teddy
she said what
Wow! I should have known all along! So the teddy was the dad but the mom gets drunk for some reason and the child try's to find his mom but his mom turns into a monster also the dad came back to take the child away from the mom because the mom is drunk and the dad takes the child away far away from the mom then they had a happy life together
But it could be the father but teddy said it’s still the mother
True
I also love how teddy, says that he can hug him if or when his scared and protects him and tells him what to do in order to keep him safe.
can you do Explained of cry of fear?
sure buddy :)
True
The teddy introduces himself as Teddy. Me: Oh wow I'm so surprised! Like if you agree
Fnaf Girl no STFU
Fnaf Girl That’s just to get fucking likes
I think it would have been clever to name him Patches, since he's got patches on him, it's a bit more subtle than the 'teddy' name.
Play Persona 4
Oh you don't say. [Insert an awkwardly sarcastic meme]
I love how amazing and deep this game is.
Great Work
What I like about this game is that you can actually see hints that the mother is an alcoholic from the very start of the game and that the scene at the end is just an explanation for the player of what the toddler has been seeing. For example:
-The mom has a wine stain on her shirt at the beginning of the game.
You just got a new subscriber :-D
Shush Yeeew! :D
Realtalk "Excuse my German"
You mean excuse your Norwegian? :) Sorry, had to reply here because for some reason UA-cam won't let me post an independent comment... always has to be replying to another one.
Void Nil same here. Its getting annoying because I have so many things to say that wont make sense replying to someone.
Wow,I never thogut I would find a video that would explain this game until I found this video:)You did such a great job explaining everything step by step and especially the parts of the game that ally of people got confused on.I subscribed to your channel because tbh I really was confused, but thanks to you I understand it now:)
Sorry I spelled thought wrong lolxD
Thats a cute bear but the game is all too sad. For all this to happen in front of a 2 year old, imagine how scarred the kid is...
The monsters are all her
Cloak: To cover herself so she won't be suspicious. Idk why it's a 2 year old.
Dude with the umbrella: Hangover she will look like a dude with a hangover.
Swamp monster: When she is drunk
Her at the ending pushing you away means that she doesn't want to the boy to see what she is.
You just got a new subscriber :D :)
Nice 1:26 long intro I bet everyone liked it
But at least most of your facts were pretty cool and right
I SUBSCRIBED
It really helps. At first I had no idea what was going on. Now that I've watched this I see it in a whole new light.
The mother is a werewolf!!
GoldenStarDoodles she is not a werewolf she is a monster
Swamp as it states in the video.
Touché
I also couldn't help but notice that the father's voice is Teddy's voice as well.
My theory is this
Drunk/High/Mentally Unstable/Insane baby is drunk/high/mentally unstable/insane
T4mago nope the mum is drunk not the baby idiot didn’t you listen to him?
Mini Nuke it's a joke...
One of the best psychological horror game, even the story is mind blowing.
I feel sad in the game i wanna, stay with mummy
Broke my mind when I realised the coat monster was his mother and not his dad.
yep
this makes sense
Ama -zing XD to understand : mom was drinking. Dad was fighting with her. The child is seeing monsters. He views them as his parents. The mom wants the baby, I don’t know why. Probably because they aren’t together anymore. So she thinks that he would not be a good dad. When you get teddy from the end she says she is sorry. Because she drinks. That’s really all I know. Hoped that cleared you up.
This sounds almost word to word like the wiki
i love easter eggs they are fun to know about and it tells a little bit of the story
oh no easter eggs
Want a sequel
What is the intro song?
OMG
U look scary change your account photo
M. IRZM Tf😒😒😒
also, the museum of among the sleep confirms that the coat monster represents his mom when she gets angry when the baby is making a mess
Put him to bed?
when I saw the swamp monster I had nightmares for a month. Thanks
Oh thank you so much for explaining, I was so confused and this made it all so clear
Among the sleep and The Park show families consisting a single mother and only son as a recipe for creating a Radiant Boy
This game is like a life crisis through the eyes of a poor toddler it really makes you think about life... 😶
If you go to chapter select in the game and go to the museum, the monsters are explained there
wonderful explanation good job you got your self a new brand new subscriber
I just subscribed to you and I love your accent. ^w^ People always doubt dat i was born in france becus i dont hav an accent. But i guess dat livivng in the US for a while removed my accent! ^w^
MLP Rainy Sky Haha i know those feels man. People always ask me where I'm from and I've lived in Australia my whole life
Realtalk ^w^ imma girl and i probably wouldnt hav been able to tell u were Australian
good for you sky!
Correct me if I am wrong does the ending of this game the baby woke up and her mum was drunk then dad came home and get you???
I think the swamp monster is drunk mommy and the coat monster is hungover mother.
In the original ending the teddy was the main villain.
2:33, if you listen closely, you can hear all the Norwegians watching this video scream in unison.
Hahahhaa
When I was a kid, everyone drank. Everyone was a monster, rather they were a happy drunk or angry drunk.
I really love the Among the sleep so much :3
it has so much feels in the ending :)
the mom is a abusive drunk monster and the dad is a soft sweet teddy.
The teddy belong to the dad when he was a kid that may be the reason why the mother took the teddy
This explenation is great
Most of us who finished the game did find out the mother was a alcoholic and that the monster represented the mother but I bet most of us didn't know about most of the things you said
AMAZING EXPLANATION
It's the coat monster that takes Teddy, and it's the mom who has Teddy at the end. So the coat monster can't be the dad
oh
I guess this baby was a writer in his previous birth
LOL XD
Not a normal one one of the best authors in his previous birth or best
Nice
Rofl
Rofl
I wish you could have pointed out that the father and teddy had the same voice. It could mean that the toddler has heard his father's voice a lot when he comes to visit but never really saw him. So when you get teddy you embodied that voice unto him. Just a thought
The drawing on a door when you head to your mothers room is of the mom and the child
Her hair is drawn frizzy with a tank top and shorts, maybe that’s why the swamp monster looks this way?
Now i'm confused...
At the part where the baby had the final memory and was about to go down the tube, i question if the father was the "Coat Monster." It seemed to me that the baby was being pulled or dragged as he was holding onto Teddy and as he was about to slide down the tube. After that, the kid was dragged to the hole right before the tube and left to hang. So if the "Coat Monster" was his father, would the baby have been pulled toward it when he was about to fall rather than doing nothing?
The mother is a drunk who beats her son, and the father is a good guy who left due to her refusal to quit drinking.. he still loves his mom but is also afraid of her, the father shows up like a savior in the end..
blasphemy!
