Looking foward to seeing if these kelpies are more capable than mine . Kelpies , best dogs ever , bar none . Proudly Australian . If your ute is tidy and everything has a place , get a border collie . If its a junkyard of fencing stuff , chainsaws , tools etc . Get a kelpie . Worth 5 men in the paddock . Just wants a feed n a quick pat as payment . Loyal and trustworthy . Although reasonably silly till 18 months old . But totally worth it .
Living in he birthplace of the Kelpie, I learnt long ago how good they are! I always knew that graziers always took their dogs with them when they went to the pub so the dog could drive home when they drunk too much. But only a Kelpie can put their drunk master to bed, milk the cows, feed the chooks and cook dinner!!
Brilliant comment I couldn't help but chuckle...my mum was born and raised in country SA with a myriad of working dogs on their sheep and cattle property...I learnt long ago how vital a good working dog is 🇦🇺
Watched the first of this series of training the 7 Kelpie puppies last night. It was totally absorbing, showing all the variables. Had no idea about how different each dog was and how they had to take their place within the existing dog pack. Collectively, these dogs are priceless, when they are trained. Can't wait to see the next in the series. Love to see how they get trained. Beautiful synchrony when in action, even with the lambs. So controlled, even with a few signals of words, whistles and body signals, and of course those rewards. So loyal to their owners. Love them.🇭🇲
Thank you ABC for a brilliant interesting emotional and entertaining series on Muster Dogs and the amazing Farmers who dedicated their days and nights to training their pups so that they can continue the traditional way to muster and herd cattle and sheep, instead of using quad bikes etc. The pups were all such characters, just like their owners. Fell in love with Frank Finger and Annie and how Annie won the completion but also won by being a mentor to poor little Lucifer…Lucy Girl…. Under Franks guidance, and his time schedule, he will help Lucifer reach her destiny
Brilliant series. Thank you! And I don’t even have a dog or a farm 🤣I just knew that Rob, a lovely guy, was setting himself up to fail. Whereas Frank, a real gentleman, could easily “make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear’
My Kelpie is called Maddie, as a city dog she has never seen a live sheep. She was born with hip dysplasia so I am thinking she would not have been suitable for farm work. There is a youtube channel about sheep breeding that I put on for her from time to time (she loves watching tv) and when the sheep bleat she tips her head back and howls.
Hello, my husband is a dog lover. He suffered a stroke and brain aneurysm about a year ago. He'd like to adopt a muster dog which doctors are recommending a support/smart dog to increase and improve his therapy. Please advise.
I'd like to see a German Shepherd Dog thrown into the mix as well, just to see how it went. Of course, the shepherd was originally bred for a completely different type of sheep handling, but it would be interesting to see how they shape up against the Kelpie breed.
Risking their bones with too much hard running while growing? Show truly fascinating from a training perspective, but I worry about the strain on their immature bones. Future arthritis?
I only hope this series does not inspire more people in the suburbs to buy one ! Where I live , far too many people own these incredibly intellgent dogs who love to work ,keeing them bored senseless in tiny back yards without even a walk to look forward to or any of the attention and stimulation they need and deserve. The suffering is horrific....every person who wants a dog should ask themselves if the dog wants them !
I watched all of the episodes. The owners of the puppies put them at risk of serious injury or death before they were sufficiently trained to know what they were doing. At least one of them was seriously injured by a cow when it was only a few months old. For the sake of a TV shows, they went against all knowledge and experience and attempted to achieve an artificial deadline to train dogs to muster even before six months of age, a time when their brains have not sufficiently developed to be able to implement the training they are given. The dogs were so tired that one fell asleep on the spot. It was cruel to the dogs to do this to them when they were so young and were still growing. This entire concept was unethical because they put the dogs at risk of serious injury or death.
Watching this, racism immediately shows its nasty head. It seems Blacks around the world are at a disadvantage. The only Black contestant is the only contestant made to travel to receive her dog, and is also given the most rambunctious pup who requires more training. We always have to work harder and be 200% better to be perceived as half as good.🫤 🫤
Clearly didn't watch the full series where they all travel to CJ's station... They're all given incredible dogs who are all extremely capable animals, especially CJ's Spice. There's absolutely no place for your misplaced keyboard warrior notions of self importance.
Watched 3 episodes already, I wish they made a longer serie about it.. This was pure gold for me! ❤
I've got two kelpies, though we don't have a farm we do walk them and take them to the farm as often as we can. Such great dogs
Can’t wait for this, I love my kelpie she’s always good to go no matter what

I think they showed how much work is involved amd what they are breed for. It was a brilliant look at working dogs and the arguments for.
