  • A few thoughts on how the 690 did out on the trails by Moab, as well as my thoughts about the town itself.

Great reviews on Moab. I’m a 50/50 guy with my F800GSA is my street /roads . I have a WR250R is for strapping on the Mercedes’ Sprinter and exploring trails and dirt roads. I’m looking forward to that 2018 690R will soon be in the garage. Anyway around Bend Oregon out!

Arizona is the Southwest... LOL... 'Nuff said!!!... I like the way you didn't try to 'push' it. Take your time and your ability will catch up to the motorcycle... Good stuff thanks for posting.

I suppose Moab just seems like the Southwest to me since I'm from Wisconsin

@@doomermotorsports And you guys have the Real cheese. LOL 😆. I know a couple of base jumpers that spend a lot of time up in Moab, Great sites, get a speed wing paraglider when you go back. You can use the bike and get some real thrills... Running off mountains. Thank you for responding.PS . Almost bought the same motorcycle a few months ago. Going to be between that one and Husqvarna. Thanks again.

@@dwightbernheimer331 my cousin has a paramotor, which would be awesome out there too. Hopefully you end up picking up that 690/701. They're absolute beasts!

Thanks for the video. Three of us made it to Monticello last year riding the TAT. We are planning on picking up there and heading to Moab next as we continue the TAT.
Two out of three of us were in 690’s so this was cool to see. They are very capable bikes👍

I love mine. Last year I went on a BMW F 650 GSA Dakar. The KTM is much better. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

If I was riding a bike like that off-road, I would be going at a similar pace to you. A lot of channels show people traveling at quite high speed off-road which is probably not realistic for a lot of riders.

It takes a lot of practice and confidence to ride fast offroad, especially in such unpredictable terrain. This was actually my first time in a true offroad setting, so I was pretty nervous most of the time.

Enjoyed this a lot. I've been on the fence about buying a 690 Adventure. Have seen a few used ones for sale, I guess the biggest complaint is vibration. That's tolerated more by some than others. Anyway, really informative thanks for posting!

The '19 and later 690s with the 2nd balancer are very smooth. I have a new '23 701 and it feels like a big thumper at idle, after that it almost might as well be a twin.

There is more vibration going 50 on my tw200 than over 100 on my 690

I've been going to the Black Hills The last 5 years or 6 years. Extremely well established trails. The state has really gotten behind the whole off-road thing. I even know some people up there I could hook you up with. The locals take you to places you've never go otherwise. I've also got lots of videos and albums and pics I could show you.

Sounds great! Not sure if another trip is in the cards for me this year or not, but I'll have to hit you up if I'm able to head that way. What time of year do you think is best for riding out there?

@@doomermotorsports a group of about 25 of us have been going up on Father's Day weekend The last 5 years or so. They don't even open up the hills until May 15th. So early June or mid-june is when we go.

Awesome video. I went to Moab last year and had an absolute blast. If you're curious about the black hills I have been riding here since I was 11 and we have some of the best single track in the country. Hit me up sometime, I would be more than willing to show you around, I also ride a KTM 690 btw!

Sounds great! My travel plans have slowed a bit now that I have a regular job again, but if I head out that way I'll definitely try to get in touch. What time of year would you consider to be the best time to ride?

  • @chiptaxfree

What month and week did you go on trip? Would you go the same time again? If you had a KTM 500 would you take a that instead of a KTM 690?

I think we were there from March 10 through the 15th. We hit some snow on the way out there and one night it got down to 14 degrees, but daytime was perfect. A few of the trails around the La Salle mountains still had snow, but everything else was nice and dry. I'd definitely go around that time again. Late fall is supposedly a good time as well.
As for the bike, the 690 didn't struggle a bit. A 500 would absolutely dominate though, especially on more difficult trails.

Nice video. Do you happen to know or remember the names of the trails you went on? I’m thinking of going out there with my son and those trails look perfect.

    • @doomermotorsports
      @doomermotorsports  2 роки тому +1

Sure. The most difficult one was Chicken Corners, but that's still just considered moderate difficulty in some spots. The other two were Gemini Bridges and Onion Creek, which are both rated as easy.
You can also ask for recommendations in town. Usually the staff at the gear stores are super helpful.
