It's been over a year since my last "real" video, so I thought I'd give a little update and let people know I'm still alive.

Is the 690 Getting Worse!?

I would never buy a 2019 690, but it's not just because of the price. What are your thoughts on the matter?

KTM 690 Enduro R Stock vs. Wings Exhaust
I'm going to bet this route is best traversed on a snowmobile.
I bought by 1st one (2011 model) in 2015 and sold it in 2018. Despite also having a 300 and 990 adv, I missed the 'sweet spot' of the 690 for some applications and bought another one (2017 model) 2 years ago. Despite some functional mods, it's pretty standard and loving it. It's as tame or as wild as I'd like it to be, but essentially quite versatile.
I have never ridden any 690 but I do hear people complain that they dont feel as strong as a big bore thumper should down low. I clicked on this vid because I am curious if the older ones had more bottom end? Simetimes companies neuter part of the powerband to meet emissions regulations but ramp up the top end power to keep sales from slumping. Like the mid n8neties VFR 750 that became an 800 with V-Tech. The new one made a few more hp, but people ended up missing the old motor. Can anyone comment on the bottom end of both motors?
To the point
riding in shorts, what an idiot
Yeah this guy really has no clue. 😂
Adventure bikes are 70 road, 30 gravel and dirt roads. Enduro are for ofroad
I have a 200 lb DRZ and it goes everywhere I guess I'm part of the 10%.Sounds like all your money$lavery hasn't found u freedom yet I guess,a school has a tendency to do that to tools.I bet your one of those that has a tenere but can't even pick it up.cheers
I tried one. Decent at everything. Great at nothing. Would not recommend.
7hp is a 10% increase. I'd be pretty surprised if one didn't notice a 10% increase in power. People notice a 2hp gain from an aftermarket pipe.
ADV dual sport enduro and supermotos are are dual sports and types of dirt bikes no? At least that is how the law sees it here..
Im having my 690 Enduro R 2010 for almost 15 years soon. The only thing what i would like to have from the new ones is the facelifted Engine from the 2019 and better steering angle. Thats all, rather have none of the electric add-ons and save weight. The new 690 of 2025 is 10kg heavier than the one from 2010. 10kgs is a a lot, this is more than what my Luggage-Rack, Radiator-Guards, and all the extra weights together.
What's the story with reliability? Apart from fuel pump and clutch slave, is it really that unreliable?
Dual sport: off-road bike that can do on-road ADV: on-road bike that can do off-road
Hear in the Philippines, the roads are pretty much crap compared to the U.S. Having a big adventure bike with great suspension and large fuel and luggage capacity is the perfect touring machine next to a small suv. And at 67 years old, I'm looking for the comfort and more off-road use ability that a sport or more road oriented touring bike here. I've owned dozens of bikes throughout my life, on road off road, dualsport, sport and cruiser. There's no perfect bike, they all fill a niche, that's why adventure bikes exist. Not having the patience to watch the entire video, I'm not sure if this video changed direction from bad mouthing adventure bikes or their owners. So I'll just say in closing that, there's usually an ass for every kind of seat, weather it be cars, bikes, boats. And don't knock it until you ride it.
The extra horsepower comes from the extra 1000 rpm
Comes down to excellent marketing, I guess. Not rational by any means...
KTM has been losing money forever. That is why they are building bikes in China. They mentioned that after laying off a bunch of people. And this bike is probably going away...but either way, your review had almost zero factual information. Lazy review.
10 000 miles?you freaking crazy. Every 2500 - 5000 km maxxxx. Use Motul 300v.
Awesome, love my 2014 to bits BUT, they do break. Look after all the parts and engine and this bike will not dissapoint.
I live in remote Colorado, USA and totally agree with you. Even though the 690R can successfully navigate the I-70 Interstate with people driving very fast, most of my riding pavement to my favorite off-road trails there is no need to ride faster than 75mph. My 2017 KTM is too heavy for serious off-road exploration given my skill level, and my previous KTM 350 and 500 EXC-F's were not powerful enough to ride at 75mph on pavement to get to the trails. I will never sell the hot rod 1090R in the garage, but my next build is going to be a new 690R. Great video, thanks for sharing!
Wait what?
tkc 80s have recall and suck a bag of dicks get motoz and a rear spring upgrade, also the heel pegs are a must. bike is a rockstar if ya run high revs and get good
Love my 690, thing wheelies like no other. However it’s very tiring on single track. Looking for a husky 501 or beta for that task. Overall most fun bike ive owned
I m getting trapped in their trap OH NO
Own one since 2012, love it, gravel is my perfered way of travel
Why should every man own an adventure bike ua-cam.com/video/rbuBE2jS_wY/v-deo.html
Thank you.
Haha I'm one of the 390 "Meant for girls and short people " guys. Love every moment I get on it.
People that post rubbish like this are dumber than
Let me help you out here because let's face it as someone who had Trump as a president you need help. There are different conditions in different countries. You got it?
And that clutch you lovee to praise... mine died at 400 miles.... and ktm literally laughed at me when I wanted it warranty repaired.... F ktm...
Worst of all time absolutely... it's a converted crotch rocket.. crap materials, wonky clutch.. gas tank in rear fender... and the fueling of that engine is wonky afffff
Bosch abs and traction control and cornering abs, Brembo brakes, 74hp, quick shifter, trellis frame, FI... The rider is the only thing that makes it the worst.
Adv bikers I see are generally much safer riders than supersport nuts.
Champlin Oval
The perfect do it all bike!
Its not really about off road, it's the comfortable ergonomics and ability to carry a tonne of camping gear although the vast majority of adv riders are 50+ year old men who kitted their gs out with everything on the catalogue and the closest they come to off road is driving across their lawn
The reason i have a 09 klr with nobbys. is cuz i live miles 8 miles on dirt roads and sand. Cant doit on a street bike. The sand will wash you out with street tires. I love it. I don’t think my KLR is dumb at all Is a klr an adventure bike. Or a Dual sport ?
Adventure like everything else, happens in our minds. So we can go on an adventure with an ADV bike or without shoes. The thing is just to be happy with whatever we decide to use on our adventure. Yes, cars and bikes are over-dimensioned in all aspects, the only factor is just if we can we afford them. I personally had 2 GSs, and sold them without even a single tiny scratch on the paint. Used them for touring and commuting, both are part of my adventure: living my life until I die, as we do not know where we are going and for how long.
I have ridden the twat, it’s pretty hairy. but if you don’t mind getting wet, the end usually makes up for the rest of it
Agreed with all. Have the 2017 and rode from Bay Area to Baja. Split the lanes through LA and Tijuana, then hit the dirt. Love this bike.
We have plenty of mountains... They're just really old and worn down
Mate - these adventure bikes are getting a serious workout here in Australia. Cape York. Simpson Desert. Kimberleys. Top End. Canning Stock Route. Central Australia. Flinders Ranges. All sorts of routes in southeast Australia. It’s not hard to do a 7-10 day ride and cover some brilliant country, mostly off the bitumen on all sorts of roads and tracks. The smaller to mid size bikes (up to about 800cc) are popular for long range hard riding - and among the more dual sport bikes the DRZ400 and DR650 have legendary status.
I have an old Gold Wing 1200, a Honda Falcon 400 adventure bike and a Honda XR250. I ride them all but put most miles on the Wing. I'm looking for a good used Tiger 800. My buddy bought one and I rode it and want one. We were looking at the northeast BDR trail and wondered if it might be possible. Probably not as ee are both in our mid 70's. Nice to dream though. The adventure bikes are just good all around bikes. The tall seat takes a lit if strain off old knees. The lighter weight over touring bikes makes them much easier to back up and turn around. Once on the road handling is great. All the luggage options opens up options for long distance travel. I ride every day and right now the 400 works perfect for my riding.
Good day sir. In your opinion, which category would a Royal Enfield Scram 411 fall into? A poor man's ADV perhaps?
My 2020 690R ENDURO has been a excellent motorcycle and have had great luck with it and the reliability, just can't say enough about how dynamic it is
81 pissed off adventure dads disliked this video 😆
This video was for the most part straight up facts. I mean you guys can be mad abt it, but its still true for the most part hahaha.
great definition, but has nothing to do with real life... so if i use my adv in a single track trail, what are the consequences? my point is what stopping someone from not following these GUIDELINES? nothing! but skill level.. they are not rules because if they are who is enforcing the "rules" i plan on zero commute, only ride distance off road, only use pavement to get to dirt, 1000 miles, on a ds you would have oil changes but doable, so you tell me what is best for that scenario?
