For a flourless oatmeal cookie, mix a mashed overripe banana, 3/4 cup quick cooking oats, and 1/4 cup chocolate chips. Form into 9 flattened balls and bake at 350 for 15-18 minutes. Regular oats are fine too.
We always have oatmeal in the pantry. I try to have several types like the old fashioned and quick oats since some recipes may call for either and also steel cut oats. If I get oatmeal on sale, I put them in vacuum sealed bags. We found a good tip for the steel cut, which can take some time to cook. Measure the water, salt and oats into a pot, bring to boil and cook for about 5-6 minutes. Turn off heat, stir and allow to sit overnight. The oats will be fully cooked by morning and no rushing around to try to cook them for 40 minutes or more. Also great to add dried fruit during the cooking/soaking process. Thanks for the no bake oat bars recipe, will have to try that one!
Making "sausage" with oatmeal is a great meatless meal addition. Linda’s Pantry has a video showing how to make it. My very fussy husband didn’t even notice it on my first attempt of making "meatballs". I added all sorts of seasonings including sage. He asked me while eating his spaghetti and meatballs if I had added sausage. Once he was finished eating I informed him that it was oatmeal. Following Linda’s recipe it really looks like a fried sausage patty and has the same texture!
We love savory oatmeal! We add broth instead of water, seasonings such as garlic powder, pepper, or Cajun seasoning. You can top it off with some cheese or chili oil. It’s delicious! We’ve also done a curry oatmeal, Mexican style, pizza oats (tomato paste & cheese). I love savory oatmeal so much more than sweet :)
Hell, I put soy sauce in oats. I thought I was the only person that did umami oats. Mexican, Italian, Curried, and Cajun? I think that we must be oat twins?

Sorry you are having problems with oats. Perhaps they aren't dry enough when you buy them. That would be a problem with the food processing manufacturer, and not something you can control.
We are fans of the Spurtle Oatmeal, I buy the 25 lb bag when I see it. I eat it everyday. I use my rice cooker to make 4 servings, store it in the fridge and have 4 days without having to drag out a pan. Stores the dry oatmeal easily in foodsaver bags that go in a bucket. Can't have enough of that delicious oats.
I do a similar thing for the overly sweet instant packets of oats. I buy some plain and some flavored. I use one plain and one flavored and that really is more of a satisfying serving for most of us. These instant packets are a great size for a bug out bag. Thanks for doing this video....such helpful information!

Excellent, as usual. Particularly liked the oatmeal bath info. My Wife had a weird rash, that her doc was puzzled by, after the Rx creams did not work, we tried oatmeal baths, and Calamine Lotion, (spelling may be off). Her rash was cleared up in 3 days. Never came back. Read an article that indicated that cabbage leaves are good for treating cuts and minor wounds. Still researching, but looks promising.
AG you covered this so well and couldn't agree more that to us oats are an essential prep. $Tree used to have 1lb bags of quick oats. They were packaged for long term. We keep looking for them when we go in but haven't seen them in stock for several months. Outrageous Oats. All you had to do was drop them in a bucket as is. We put in the oats and a 1qt pouch of nonfat dry milk for each and a bag of sweetener. Would've liked to have started another bucket. Granola is easy to make as is granola bars. We mostly eat hot oats and add all sorts of things for flavor. Peanut butter, cinnamon and raisins, dried cranberries and walnuts or bananas. Dried fruit is good to have to pep up hot oat porridge.

I recently Mylar bagged up 20 pounds of oats, instant potatoes and instant rice with oxygen absorbers. The potatoes didn't seem to loose the oxygen. I even added another absorber. I know it will be fine just want it to shrink down for easier storage. I've also stored the potatoes in air tight containers. I've made the oatmeal, peanut butter and honey treats in the past. Yummy! I added the sweet cinnamon packets for extra flavor. I used to eat the flavored packets all the time but, you're right, they have gotten too sweet.
Sometimes the packages just don't shrink down. The OXYGEN may be absorbed, but it only makes up like 21% of our air. 78% of our air is nitrogen, which is actually a preservative. Notice that your bagged veggies stay fresh in the bags or in veggie trays until you open them, then they go bad right away? The sealed packages often have nitrogen pumped into them and when you open them, they get exposed to oxygen and start to turn.
Especially with potato flakes...I seal the bag all but 1 inch, then use 2 hands to firmly press the air out of the bag, and then seal the final inch while trapping the vacuum. Flakes hold a lot of air.

I have quite a bit of both the old-fashioned AND instant oatmeal because I am concerned about times of potential low water supply or heat source, (yes, I know, overnight oats is an option.) Many companies use the same equipment to grind, store, or package wheat products and they can be contaminated. Have laid in both name-brand oatmeal and certified gluten-free for long term storage. I use it for crumble for apple crisp, etc, for my son who is gluten-sensitive. Nice job on the making of oatmmilk!

I think I posted this here before, but I'll post it again. It's my meat substitute using oatmeal and beans. Oatmeal and Black Bean Taco Crumbles 1 cup rolled oats 2 cups water 4 tbsp tomato paste 2 tsp beef bouillon powder 1 tsp garlic powder 1 tsp onion powder 1 tsp cumin 1 tsp season all or homemade house seasoning 2 tbsp taco seasoning 1/2 tsp smoked paprika 2 tbsp nutritional yeast 2 pinches of kosher salt Combine ingredients mixing well and place in rice cooker and cook on white rice setting. When cooker is complete stir oats well. 2 to 3 tbsp olive oil Have a skillet with 2 to 3 tbsp olive oil ready for browning and drying out of oats. Place oats in skillet on high heat until sizzling. After 3 minutes set stove to medium heat, stirring and chopping oats into large crumbles. Switch between high and medium heat to avoid the tomato burning. Add more seasoning, water and beans: 2 tbsp Taco seasoning 2 tbsp nutritional yeast 1/2 tsp garlic powder 1/2 tsp onion powder 1/2 tsp cumin 1/4 tsp smoked paprika 3 tbsp water 1 15 oz can of seasoned black beans, drained Mix the oats, beans, seasonings and water together over medium heat. Mash about 1/3 of the beans with a potato masher or back of a spoon or spatula. Leave the remaining beans whole. Continue mixing everything around in skillet switching between medium and high heat until oatmeal begins browning. Switch heat to low and allow beans to heat thoroughly. Remove from heat after about 3 minutes or so. Add mixture to warmed, soft tortillas. Add cheese and whatever toppings you like. Makes approximately 6 to 8 servings It's very filling, a little goes a long way, so it feeds quite a few.
Ive been watching since 2020 also. Enjoy your videos very much. Is that your pantry behind you in the kitchen in this video? Is there a chance you might give a pantry/food storage tour? All your uses for oats are great! I work with Infants and here are a couple more uses for you. *Infants, children and even pets can enjoy/need an oat bath at times, as well. *Also, grinding your oats VERY finely, can be used for an infant cereal mixed with a little warm water or breastmilk/infant formula.
Hi AG. Love your shows. I watch a lot of prepper videos. One thing I notice is that no one preps for having a garden. Sooner or later your stockpile of food will run out. What then? I myself have at least enough veggie seeds to plant 1 acre of land for the climate I live in. Is this something you do?
love oatmeal products. have oat bran just about every morning . oat bran does have a little more fiber to it. also you can make oat milk out of the whole grain oats, not the quick oats.
I checked out the nutritional value in oat milk and I was kind of surprised. I often try to think of idea's of what I could make if I wanted come up with food for the homeless. Those oat bars and a cup coffee with some oat milk in it would be an easy and relatively inexpensive breakfast. Today, I finally bought some Augason Farms butter, thanks to you Alaska Granny. I know I'm going to be very happy I have that in a year or so. You have given me so many helpful and interesting idea's that I would have not thought of on my own. Question, have you ever tried making a flower pot heater? I'm looking for ways to best heat a small room if there were a power outage. Even if it's only to get a temp up by 10 - 15 degrees if it's freezing outside. What to you use at your Granny Camp when it's still too cold to have no heat but nice enough to be out at camp?
The instant packets I agree are too sweet and I too mix them with some regular packets. What do you think of shelf stability, storage and best use time past expiration. I just found a box in the back of my pantry.

another great video! how long do you think the flavored packets of instant oakmeal would stay good.. im thinking of vacuum sealing a few packets and putting them in the bug out bags, but with the added ingredients, im not sure how long they would stay good for
I vacuum sealed flavored packets of oatmeal, and didn’t like the way they tasted after they were opened. They were hard from lack of oxygen of course, but somehow they weren’t as good. I used mason jars. I suppose they would be better than no food though!
My go-to no-knead whole grain bread recipe (from Jenny Can Cook) is 1 cup oatmeal, 1 cup bread flour and 1 cup whole wheat flour (plus salt, yeast and water). Simple and tasty. I believe there are also no-yeast bread recipes that use only oatmeal.
Even the reduced sugar is too sweet for my tastes. Good idea to mix in some plain. What’s the water/milk ratio for overnight oats? I haven’t tried that yet.
I cover the oatmeal in the jar with milk or water or even juice. I check before I go to bed & if needed add more liquid if the consistency is too stiff. I have also added greek yogurt to the jar of overnight oats to thicken the mix. This is a very versatile way to have a filling meal or pick me up snack!

Question people say to put oats flour rice pasta and freezer for a few days don't have freezer space can you put it in the refrigerator for a week or so let it come to room temperature and then vacuum seal it in jars would that be just as good I've asked few other videos and nobody's really have an answered need to know if I am doing this right thank you if you answer back have a good day
The refrigerator isn't cold enough to kill the larvae. If you're vacuum sealing the jars, taking the air away from it will also kill bugs. Remember, not every batch is infested. You're just doing this in case it is.

Thank you !😘
Thank you for sharing some different ways to use oatmeal, pretty neat. Hi from Indiana. Take care, God bless
You are so welcome
That's a sharp outfit AG!
Oats any type of beans and peanut butter any type of nuts are going to be our go-to when it comes to survival food and brown rice and if you recycle your peanut butter jars are good for ceiling your food
I was getting ready to comment about making oatmilk but you more than covered it. You gave this vegan some tips! I always shake it up before using. I thought it got slimy because it doesn't last as long as other milks. I'll let the sediment be next time.
Glad you enjoyed my video.
I think I posted this here before, but I'll post it again. It's my meat substitute using oatmeal and beans.
Oatmeal and Black Bean Taco Crumbles
1 cup rolled oats
2 cups water
4 tbsp tomato paste
2 tsp beef bouillon powder
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp season all or homemade house seasoning
2 tbsp taco seasoning
1/2 tsp smoked paprika
2 tbsp nutritional yeast
2 pinches of kosher salt
Combine ingredients mixing well and place in rice cooker
and cook on white rice setting.
When cooker is complete stir oats well.
2 to 3 tbsp olive oil
Have a skillet with 2 to 3 tbsp olive oil ready for browning and
drying out of oats.
Place oats in skillet on high heat until sizzling.
After 3 minutes set stove to medium heat, stirring and chopping
oats into large crumbles.
Switch between high and medium heat to avoid the tomato burning.
Add more seasoning, water and beans:
2 tbsp Taco seasoning
2 tbsp nutritional yeast
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp cumin
1/4 tsp smoked paprika
3 tbsp water
1 15 oz can of seasoned black beans, drained
Mix the oats, beans, seasonings and water together over medium heat.
Mash about 1/3 of the beans with a potato masher or back of a spoon
or spatula.
Leave the remaining beans whole.
Continue mixing everything around in skillet switching between
medium and high heat until oatmeal begins browning.
Switch heat to low and allow beans to heat thoroughly.
Remove from heat after about 3 minutes or so.
Add mixture to warmed, soft tortillas.
Add cheese and whatever toppings you like.
Makes approximately 6 to 8 servings
It's very filling, a little goes a long way, so it feeds quite a few.
Thanks for sharing this recipe.
@@AlaskaGranny No problem 🤗💖
Wow! Thanks for sharing!!!
❤ Oatmeal and black beans are 2 of my fave foods! Thanks for this recipe!
The packets of oatmeal are too sweet for me too. I add about 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon to make it more enjoyable.
Thanks for watching!
Great tips and very informative. Thank you.
God bless u, for all u do, for ur family and viewers.
Another great video. Thanks. 🙏👏👍❤️🌟🌹
Thanks so much, Rachel.
Can you please put a link to the LDS website?
Great information thanks for sharing!
Excelllent tips and ideas. Thanx
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for the video! God bless 🙏
Hi AG. Love your shows. I watch a lot of prepper videos. One thing I notice is that no one preps for having a garden. Sooner or later your stockpile of food will run out. What then? I myself have at least enough veggie seeds to plant 1 acre of land for the climate I live in. Is this something you do?
Yes, we need to find ways to grow and provide. I have made quite a few gardening and seed storage videos.
the bars look yummy
I grind my steel oats to a flour and use half white flour and half oatmeal flour when baking.
Sounds great!
love oatmeal products. have oat bran just about every morning . oat bran does have a little more fiber to it. also you can make oat milk out of the whole grain oats, not the quick oats.
Nice tips.
Hi Alaska Granny 👋
Good video and tips , thanks for sharing , God bless !
AG, another great informative video! Way to go
Thanks!
Love ur channel thank you for this video 🙂
I appreciate that.
Freeze oatmeal for 4 to 5 days to make sure that insect eggs are destroyed.
I do not use flower pot heaters because they can be very dangerous.
Thanks for the info
Thanks for watching.
The instant packets I agree are too sweet and I too mix them with some regular packets. What do you think of shelf stability, storage and best use time past expiration. I just found a box in the back of my pantry.
Likely they last a few years, unless they get a tear. If you place the packets into an airtight container they likely will last longer.
FYI - This video was aired Sept. 8th, 2022, however, today, Sept. 9th, 2022, Auguson Farms is having their 50th anniversary and is selling a 5 gallon bucket with 135 meals in it for $99.00. I purchased one for $83.00 on their website because I was a first time buyer and registered with them. However, their $126.00 bucket is on sale for $99 without any discounts and free shipping. They also offer a 2 and 3 month Flex Pay. I took the 3 month. I also paid through PayPal. You can use your credit card or apply for an HSN card. This sale is only for today, Sept. 9th, 2022, ending at midnight. There is a video on UA-cam showing all the meals that are in it.
When I had chicken pox as a child, my mom put Oatmeal in a sock and tied it off and put it right in the bathtub with me. Still remember that after all these years.
Nice that your mom had soothing ideas.
Think...Monkey Pox....🤷♀️💪💪🇺🇸🇺🇸
I like Irish oats best, but it'll take longer.
Please, where do I find the lads online?

another great video! how long do you think the flavored packets of instant oakmeal would stay good.. im thinking of vacuum sealing a few packets and putting them in the bug out bags, but with the added ingredients, im not sure how long they would stay good for
I vacuum sealed flavored packets of oatmeal, and didn’t like the way they tasted after they were opened. They were hard from lack of oxygen of course, but somehow they weren’t as good. I used mason jars. I suppose they would be better than no food though!
@@sharonfransen1191 thank you! How long did you keep them before you tried them?
can you freeze
Can you make bread with Oat Flour?
My go-to no-knead whole grain bread recipe (from Jenny Can Cook) is 1 cup oatmeal, 1 cup bread flour and 1 cup whole wheat flour (plus salt, yeast and water). Simple and tasty. I believe there are also no-yeast bread recipes that use only oatmeal.
Even the reduced sugar is too sweet for my tastes. Good idea to mix in some plain. What’s the water/milk ratio for overnight oats? I haven’t tried that yet.
I start with the regular amount. Try it and see what you enjoy.
Alaska Granny: I buy Coach’s Oats in Mylar bags (I think!). Can I store these as is, or do I need to do more?
I am not familiar with that brand. Likely you can.
Last winter cooked reg oatmeal in microwave, added preserves for the sweetener.
Had a recipe for oatmeal bread, came out too dry, would like to find another recipe
Have you tried the recipe that uses yogurt? I have made it just once, and it was not dry.
Trying to find recipes for bread not using flour due to family member with hyperglycemic issues.

@@LurkerSmurf thank you for your answer at least somebody answered my question so I know what I'm doing is safe have a blessed evening😊
@@LurkerSmurf forgot another question so do I follow the date on the flower to use by when I do vacuum seal it
@@LurkerSmurf trying to put some flour back because of the prices so I will have it when I need it to do baking for family sorry I didn't finish this with the other question using phone messes up sometimes
@@sandrahudziec723 You can extend the Best By date on flour by about 9-12 months by vacuum sealing it, but it won't last forever. I do freeze mine, which extends it a lot more.
Add your too sweet oatmeal to a muffin mix.
The only way I like oatmeal is in an apple crisp.
i eat oatmeal mixed with sweetened almond milk.
Yum
am I just not seeing the recipe for the bars?

My kids got chicken Pox 1 year before the vaccine was released. They had it head to toe & eyelids & ears.Very miserable. I used oat baths
For all of them. I took old stockings/leggings from when my daughter was younger. Tied knot and they worked absolutely perfect. The oat substance
Dissolved in the h20. And no mess. Not sure if it works on mosquitoes attack. But I'm thinking it has anti-inflammatory effects. It really works good at soothing & drying the bumps, redness & itching. I swear by it.👍🧐🏜🤗
Chicken pox were indeed miserable!!
