World champion?
Gukesh is an undisputed champion. Ruslan Ponomariov became champion from the split championship. At that time(1993) all the top players withdrew from Fide due to prize fund issues and PCA was created by Gary Kasparov to rival fide. All the top players like Vishy, Kasparov, Kramnik were playing PCA and didn't participate in Fide's title. That's why when Ruslan won many didn't consider him the world champion because top players didn't play FIDE. That's why Ruslan who was world number 19th in the world in 2002 was the winner and is not therefore undisputed as there was some other organisation who had more credible players. This issue was resolved further (around 2003) and PCA was dissolved by agreement with both the parties and Fide became the Single and only official chess organiser. Now Gukesh journey is different from Ruslan he is in proper sense the world champion because first qualified to candidates 24 through Fide circuit and he won the candidates 2024 which had (Hikaru, Nepo, Caruana). So, Gukesh that's why in true sense is the world champion.
