Great playthrough! This is one of my all time favorites and my go-to for a quick, meaty game. I've been following since the 9 card micro game PnP years ago. There was supposed to be a Kickstarter for a new expansion out this month that was delayed to next year. Needless to say I can't wait.
This game really grew on me! I think I played 20 games during the week (you'd think I'd have a Thief video, but I don't, oops), which doesn't happen. It's so quick to set up/reset/play it has jumped way up on my list of favorites. I think the next crowdfunding is around March 2024, and I plan to be there. Hoping I can get all of the current promos for a sane price as well.
I bought this game after watching your playthrough; thank you. Your videos are enjoyable and explanatory which, for me, is a delightful plus. Quick questio; would you be willing to make a video of a campaign playthrough?
So, you know what's really dumb - I intended to, but then I started playing through all of the characters and was having a great time just doing that, then next thing I know a week went by! I figured that will be good enough "for now" (and I missed a Thief video, but I did play it a few times). I would love to revisit it and record a play of the campaign someday, but there's a lot of other stuff I'm excited to get footage of ASAP.
Hey, CeePhour! Thank you for this great series! It was great to watch you play and master Mini Rogue. :) I really hope to see more from you in the future. I am off now to watch your other series (looking forward to D100 Dungeon and Tin Helm [I have Iron Helm as PNP and I love it (GameCrafter shipping to Romania is ridiculously expensive!) - nice box you have there, btw ;) ]). Given your energy, play style, and love for these games, I have a feeling you might also enjoy these PNP's (in case you have not already tried them): - NoteQuest: Expanded World, by Tiago Junges (very versatile and engaging as it is, but I customized it for D100 combat rules and it's an absolute blast!) - massive RPG world to create, races and classes, huge variety of dungeons - D100 Space (in my opinion, not as great as D100 Dungeon, but it's by Martin Knight and he tries something new, so it still is pretty good - plus, you get to own a ship and fight space battles, get crew, as well as do missions in the same style as the dungeons in D100) - Star Drifter, by Ken Kennedy (SciFi theme, huge galaxy to explore, thousands of event outcomes, has strong Barbarian Prince genes and is very random, but it's great for a quick session, especially with the hyperlinked PDF) - Barbarian Prince, by Arnold Hendrick - fascinating, frustrating, fun. I would really love to see you try your luck with this old beast! :)) - Fabled Lands (known as Quest in the US), by Dave Morris and Jamie Thomson (book 7 by Paul Gresty) - not PNP (you need the actual books), and still missing five books out of the planned twelve, but its world is the size of an MMO (or even a real country), in book form! I am fascinated by this concept and its implementation and I do believe there are very few, or no other, games like Fabled Lands out there! - Deep Space D6, by Tony Go - space battles and ship management meet Mini Rogue, so I really feel it belongs on this list. Maybe one or some of these will eventually catch your interest and make it to your channel. Who knows? :) And of course, I have subscribed. ;) All the best, from Bucharest! Edited: some corrections, added BP author, added Fabled Lands and Deep Space D6
Welcome! And thank you! :) I had so much fun playing Mini Rogue (for anyone keeping score, currently it is EASILY the game I have played the most of off-camera between on-camera) I can't wait to try the campaign some day! I have heard how expensive stuff from The Game Crafter is to ship to other countries, and I can't even imagine even entertaining the idea. It's expensive enough to order from there even in the US! I DO have everything for Iron Helm, I am just complete trash at the game so I haven't had the guts to play it on camera yet :) -NoteQuest I have never heard of. I'm going to add it to my list to peruse later.// -D100 Space is probably great, but given "generic fantasy" vs "sci-fi" fantasy wins 100% of the time. The only space game I LOVE is Xia. -StarDrifter/Barbarian Prince - I haven't played either, but BP keeps coming up when I'm poking around. I see that the community has made "anniversary editions" and I start to get a bit lost in the fandom for it. It occupies the same space in my brain as the idea of printing out and learning Magic Realm. -Fabled Lands, you're never going to believe this but TODAY I came across Fabled Lands for the first time. I was amazed at the world of game books out there. -Deep Space D6 is one that I have printed out (the "FTL Edition") because I was hooked on it for a weekend. The Android app is all that gets played these days, but I'm not much of a phone gamer as it is, but if I do, I'm playing Shattered Pixel Dungeon! :D I have 2D6 Dungeon on the way and looking to check that out soon! edit: off = of
@@CeePhour Thank you for the new suggestions, as well! I will check out Xia, based on your recommendation. Yes, The Game Crafter is not an option, unfortunately. And Europe has no regional alternative yet. If you have managed to play Mini Rogue so well, Iron Helm should be up there - please, remember you really do not have to win or play perfectly. Mistakes or failures are part of the whole process and give everybody an opportunity to show off as "experts" (which 1. nobody is and 2. you become an "expert" mainly through... mistakes). About Barbarian Prince: do get the anniversary PDFs, ignore the fandom, and just try a few turns. It is a "love or hate" type of game, but it's one of a kind. The combat system alone is an interesting take on the concept. Fabled Lands - wasted two weeks of my life and then died because I thought I was getting good at it. Very fun, and always offers something to discover. - 2D6 Dungeon - this looks like a great game, the combat, fatigue and "crafting/adapting" systems are very interesting (I had a chat with the author, most god names in the game are rather random Romanian words, but they sound... exotic?: Verifica (to check), Detinere (ownership), Puternic (strong), Maduva (bone marrow), Intuneric (darkness). Dumnezeu is the only one that fits: literally God in Romanian). He was surprised somebody had actually noticed... :) Also, check out FTL on Steam (PC) or iOS. It's... good. I will stop here. In short, please keep making these gameplay videos - you are great at it and once anybody starts watching, I am certain they cannot stop. Have a great day!
A word of warning on Xia - it is amazing with the Embers expansion, but without it, it's something I'd play twice and be done with. It's a little broken and empty/dead feeling, but the expansion fixes all of that and more. So much so that it's my "desert island/fallout bunker" game. And if you're in that deep (cost) already, you may as well buy the "Missions & Powers" cards for a few more dollars, which doubles the ship powers in the game, and adds variety to the missions. I have 113 hours in FTL (Steam), I love it :) Thank you so much for the kind words. I don't intend to stop, this passion project that has been some of the most fun nine months I've ever had.
That was a fun series. I’ve been playing along at home and ordered the expansion on Black Friday! I just picked the game up at BGG Con a couple weeks ago so it was perfect timing to help me learn how to play. Cheers!
I hope you're enjoying it as much as I am. This game showed me it can really scratch that dungeon adventure itch quickly. I had reservations about it before I dove in, but came out the other side loving it.
Wow, I'm watching all your playthrough, I love them ! I fell in love with mini rogue when I discovered it and couldn't help but get everything. It's also good fun to see someone else playing, with other tactics and habits, and i'm getting some good advices from the vids. I'm curious which sleeves you use. I sleeved mine too but thei're slightly too tight for the cards. Yours seem to be way better.
At 17:00 you could have gone to Hermit and then Tunnel the Bonfire to next room. Healing twice for free is nice :) (ETA: please don't take my comments as nitpicking. If I wasn't enjoying your videos I wouldn't bother watching them close enough to notice these things.) ETA #2: 29:15 Cursed 6 + 2 is not 6 damage but, 5 as 2 becomes miss. That didn't change anything this time tho.
No worries, I think comments pointing out optimal play are great - they make everyone reading the comment better! Unfortunately for me, when the camera is on, I'm too worried about trying to keep moving than thinking things through. As far as the Cursed thing, aye, I put the Cursed+6+2=5 in the video description but I think people don't always see that text :) I usually don't catch these things in time to edit in a correction chyron. I'm trying to get better though! :)
