The Autobots struggle to defend Cybertron and Earth from the Decepticons and the Quintessons, whose goal is to destroy the Transformers. While Metroplex battles Trypticon on Earth, Blitzwing discovers the Quintessons' true intentions, and the Autobots are forced to team up with Blitzwing to stop the Quintessons from destroying the Transformers. But do the Autobots have what it takes to defeat the alien race that played a part in their creation?

In the Japanese Legend comic, they created a backstory of Blitzwing to explain why Blitzwing didn't trust the Quintessons. Blitzwing was a soldier of the Quintessons millions of years ago. When the Quintessons attacked the Legend world, he met the future Blitzwing. Future Blitzwing told him that he should be free and do what he wanted. Blitzwing defected from the Quintessons and joined the Decepticons.
Blitzwing: a small character who tried to lead a failed coup with a football coach, who in the movie called Hot Rod an "Auto-brat", but in this episode said he gained his respect, and was instrumental in not only saving his entire race but ultimately ending the battle!
That, kids, is called "character development"; so, naturally we will never see anything like it again in Transformers media.
Shame they weren't able to continue this direction with Blitzwing on screen like they wanted. He was supposed to be the focus of "Starscream's Ghost", on the run from Galvatron and having closer ties to the Autobots like Rodimus and Sandstorm, but they decided to give that to Octane instead to promote him as the newer toy in retail, adding a line to use Octane's role in "Thief in the Night" in place of Blitzwing in this episode as why they were fugitives.
Does anyone find it ironic that the whole transformer race was saved by Blitzwing, a Decepticon? It's not often when a Decepticon saves the day, they usually endanger it.
And it’s neat how they set it up with Blitzwing being the one who doesn’t trust the Quintessons back on Chaar, which explains why he hesitates long enough to eavesdrop on them instead of making his report

Blitzwing has earned my respect.
Blitzwing almost took out Hot Rod back in the 1985 movie. Guess Rodimus forgot about that.
Actually it was Spike using Rodimus' rifle to blow the switch. Blitzwing simply prevented the fighting from continuing any further. I might add Blitzwing was the only Decepticon on Char who didn't go along with the Quintessons. That had to be worth something, even to a crazed nut like Galvatron.
Seeing Trypticon destroy Teletraan-1 and the Ark was absolutely heartbreaking 😭😭😭
Exactly why I came to this video, to confirm that that happened, hence this is the only season 3 (post-movie) episode (not counting it being a five part episode) Autobot HQ is seen (yet, as one of those mysteries that there’ll never be answers to, it’s unknown, as of the movie, and thereafter - this season, why Decepticon HQ - on earth, was never seen again, when it seems I’ve finally solved the mystery about Chip Chase’s disappearance, from this point of the G1 cartoon series - his voice actor - Michael Horton - left the voice cast, possibly owing to having other commitments).
That was both funny and awesome! 😂 Trypticon is one of my favorite Decepticons. 🥰
Which begs the question, where was Omega Supreme and the other Autobots who were at the Ark when they protected it from Bruticus and Menasor during the movie?

He was supposed to be the main character in “Starscream’s Ghost” and “Ghost in the Machine” but they had to shoehorn Octane in there to sell new toys.

This version of Blitzwing is truly something. He did his duty and tried to warn Galvatron his leader about the betrayal of their new allies and Galvatron being the stubborn mule that he is refused to listen. But instead of giving up he instead put aside his hatred of the Autobots to seek their help in ensuring the continued existence of all transformers, and in return for his attempt to save their race he was banished from the Decepticons even though he was nothing but loyal to Galvatron. I hope he did end up joining the Autobots because at least then he might have a better chance of survival than being completely on his own.
For sure! And we see in Season 3 of G1 how Octane also seemed as if he could become a part of the Autobots, especially thanks to his friendship with Sandstorm, a fellow Triplechanger.

Magnus was right--- he showed that same courage fighting Galvatron in the movie on Junkion, even if he almost got killed doing it.

@@TF80s Yes it was the 1980s and cartoons were merely ads for toys. They fixed it with modern cartoons. Go watch Transformers Prime for some nice animation. They should remake all of g1 using cg animation on the level of TFPrime. Have more detailed combat and shootouts. The CG ninja turtles cartoon ha great animation too. We just watch this for nostalgia now. The problem with not having toys to sell is it can affect whether the show is cancelled or not. (see Thundercats 2011 for an example of this) So hasbro needs to make the toys so good that the show can last 4 seasons or just condense it so they can tell the same story in less eps. G1 is the "Star Wars Original Trilogy" of the Transformers universes.
@@UToobUsername01 l meant the animation was atrocious in this particular episode and for most of Five Faces but some of the episodes in the G1 series were fantastically drawn and animated. Unfortunately season three had more bad than good but l still much prefer hand drawn to computer generated like that Prime type animation. Akom episodes in the original series were usually bad, the rest were fine, some were beautifully drawn and animated. The original series gets way more slack than it deserves and it's usually from people basing their opinion on the worst episodes from the series.. which is really unfair.

It's not very often that you would actually agree with a Decepticon, let alone respect one but Blitzwing really became one of the few who knew that trusting an outsider was a mistake and it was pretty cool to see him helping the Autobots much to Galvatron's anger. This final part of the Five Faces arc helped cement the Quintessons as a dangerous threat to both Autobots and Decepticons who was more than willing to wipe out every single Transformers in the galaxy but by also adding the relevation that their new enemy was also their creator, it made the war extra personal.
Side note: Blitzwing helping the Autobots and betraying Galvatron would have led to him being exiled and hunted down by the Decepticons in the Starscream's Ghost episode but was swapped for Octane who was put in his place as the traitor.
Here's what probably happened after this episode:
Rodimus: Blitzwing, do you still want to join the Autobots?
Blitzwing: Will you kill me if I say no?
Rodimus: No, I will spare your life either way but if you reject my offer, that's fine but you will have to leave both Cybertron and Earth forever.
Blitzwing: That's fine by me. I'm done with this war anyway. I think I'd be better off living the rest of my life in retirement on some other planet.
8:29 I love how they build up all this tension to prepare for the epic Magnus vs Galvatron rematch… and then Galvatron gets shot once and just… leaves. That’s kind of hilarious and somehow completely in character for Galvatron
It's nice to see that Blitzwing warning the Autobots about the Quintessons plans to eliminate all of the Transformers, he should have joined the Autobots after being banished from the Decepticons by Galvatron
He was supposed to be in the episode Starscream's Ghost instead of Octane...it was supposed to follow on from the events in the end of this episode.
Blitzwing didn't get banished!! He actually makes a very brief appearance in season's 3 episode, "Fight or Flee" and he also appeared in "The Ultimate Weapon" but as a background character with no lines at all.
Yeah, but it was how Rodimus worded it that caused him to decline: "Could I interest you in changing sides?"
Fun fact: Flint Dille confirmed the one who was supposed to warn about the Quintessons was actually......Shockwave.
@@ZZtheDark That would have made sense, since Shockwave was stationed on Cybertron for the longest time and would be the most likely to know about any weird shit happening there. Couldn't see him changing sides in a million years though.
What makes this one so memorable for me is the debut of the Predacons and Predaking. Predaking is my favorite of all the Combiners.

Forget Soundwave. Blitzwing is the new Employee of the Month. Or rather of all time.
Warpath and Blitzwing... Those two old rivals both took their place in this episode. Warpath represented the spirit of veteran autobots in season 1-2 which kind of solaced me after so many died in 1986 movie, although Warpath himself soon got kicked away like a soccer by Trypticon. Blitzwing demonstrated his complex personality far beyond the normal evil ambitious stereotype we usually think of a regular decepticon.

Blitzwing and Hot Rod / Rodimus had some moments together.
In the Movie he referred Hot Rod as “ Autobrat” while he transform into tank mode preparing to shoot him. “

In this episode, he shown great respect to Rodimus when the Autobot Supreme Commander offered him a place in the Autobot ranks but he respectfully turn it down coz of his loyalty to the Decepticons

He was the one that saved that day by demanding that Galvatron call off the war not wanting his fellows Decepticons to lose their lives for nothing in a pointless war. If that was still Megatron, he would also called a temporary truce and retreat without Blitzwing demanding him to. Megatron would have also listened to Blitzwing from the start and stopped the whole pointless war. Megatron though ruthless and merciless to his foes but he still have reasoning and he is not that kind of Decepticon leader who fights and destroy when it’s is not worth doing do. He prefers conquest not destruction. He values every soldier even the traitorous Starscream under his command as if they were his children unlike he was Galvatron.
Megatron was of sound mind and did things for the sake of the Decepticons.
Galvatron was just batshit crazy and cared for nothing, especially the Decepticons.
@@alanguages Galvatron would definitely destroy Cybertron. Afterall, he reformatted from Megatron to Galvatron by Unicron to carry out his work of destruction but Megatron certainly would not destroy his home planet. As I said, he wants conquest and power not destruction.
He and his opposite leader Optimus Prime actually have the same common goal and both wanted the best for Cybertron. But their opposite point of views on how to achieve their objective put them on rival terms. Prime wanted establish peace amongst other worlds where all living being could co-exist together. Megatron as a military commander scoffs at such ideals and feels that this could only be achieved through oppression and conquest.
Didn't they say he went mad after the time spent in plasma on that asteroid-looking planet?
I love this cartoon. I also love the endless errors in character placement and mistakes. Look a 15:35 when the constructicons are celebrating with the aerialbots. fantastic.
I'm pretty sure this episode had tons of background errors too. Like, the skies for Io and Earth get mixed up constantly. They'll be on Io but it had a blue, cloudy sky of earth. They'll be on Earth but it has a dark, starry sky of space. On top of everything else lol.

Man I remember being awestruck watching this episode as a kid. Predaking making the "transforming" sound with every single move?! AMAZING. Of course looking back after 30+ years, I have questions: The tech specs (remember them?) for every Predacon made them out to practically invincible warriors. Yet at 11:27 they're bumbling into one another. And Predaking...mighty Predaking vs. mighty Skylynx. All that power and force each of them can exert, it should be a titanic battle! But it ends with Skylynx using his TAIL to wrap around Predaking's neck, who then falls and disassembles? Predaking's tech specs - I remember - describe him as "having no weakness," - except evidently if given a single yank with the weakest part of Skylynx's physique. I know, it's easy to point these things out and shake one's head. But some of what's presented in these shows is really absurd. However, this show wasn't meant for cynical, world-weary 40-somethings like me. It was meant for my 10-14 year old self. Yet even now, perceiving all of the errors and foolishness, part of me still thinks it's awesome.

Not the first time Blitzwing and Galvatron have gone toe to toe. Blitzwing and Megatron went at it in Season Two's Triple Takeover.
It's a shame, really. Blitzwing could've made out to be a cool Autobot.
I think the same could have been said regarding Starscream at one point during the Transformers Armada series.

@@ryanthompsonthompson820 I think a friend of mine told me that Starscream allied with the Autobots in "Transformers Armada." But I never really watched that series too much to be sure.
There was Octane and Sandstorm.
If the animation wasn't such low quality, Five Faces of Darkness would've made Transformers The Movie 1986 look like shit. The writing is so damn good throughout the five parter, and it has a little bit of everything, from comedy that never overstays it's welcome, to intrigue, to mystery, to action, and great villains. It's the one I watched and rewatched and grew appreciation for the most over time.
It's kind of interesting how things changed when the aligned continuity came around. The Quintisons went from being the creators of the Transformers to being a creation of the transformers. Sky Linx went from being a rival for the Predacons to being a predacon himself.
I like to think the DinoBots and their Combined form Volcanicus make a better rival to the Predacons.
@@ETH5626 That would have been awesome to see in G1, but I don't think that Volcanicus was a concept until 2017.
@@landonvandop1875 that's because nobody thought of it at the time and were too lazy to even give the Dinobots a combined form. With that said The Trainbots are also Rivals to the Predacons that Hasbro should have utilize seeing as both The Trainbots and The Constructicons are from the Diaclone series.
@@ETH5626 I don't like the idea of dinobot combiners because I see the dinobots as being more massive than standard car robots. The dinosars are meant to be huge. So if they combine they would be much larger than regular combiners. That is why I like dinobots to just be 5 massive dudes vs 1 combiner. In terms of mass I think it's fair. If you let the dinobots combine they became way overpowered in terms of weight class. Its like 5 heavy weights vs 5 regular weight. Dinobot combiner has way too much advantage.

In my head canon the Quintessons built the Predacons and Terrorcons for/with the Decepticons and it surprises me no end to find the Japanese thought the same and it's been established in their own G1 comic continuations.
I feel that the Quintessons created the Seacons, for the Decepticons. Since the Quintessons have an army of Sharkticons and Alligatorcons.
Who created the Quintesson's?! Was it Victor Sigma?
This episode made me love Blitzwing.
Unfortunately, the predacons didn't expected to see one of their own named fron the TFP Beat Hunters: " *Predaking* " as a whole, instead of being one of the combined forces of fives.
Blitzwing’s MVP in this episode, love this character 🎉
The one thing I noticed in this season that stands out from 1 & 2 is the distinction of everyone's rank and position on the team on both sides.

I love how they painstakingly specify every mode of Tripticon in the dialogue just to make sure all the kids subliminally want the toy when they hear the same stuff in the ad afterwards
"Blitzwing! Your toy is no longer on the shelves! You're going to have to leave the Decepticons, and the show! We have new merch to push, you relic!"
I'd honestly love to see this remade with modern writing/consistent characters.

Galvatron ruthless and funny. Megatron seem somewhat smarter even though they technically the same being.
Megatron was highly intelligent whereas Galvatron is a unstable maniac that bashed his troops more than the Autobots
This was Metroplex and Trypticon's second confrontation since Japanese direct-to-video special Scramble City! The debut appaerance of two new Transformers characters for season 3. The Decepticon combiners, the G1 Predacons: Razorclaw, Divebomb, Rampage, Headstrong and Tantrum, they combine to form the mighty Predaking. The Predacons' main adversary, the Autobot Sky Lynx: It's Space Shuttle component transform into a dino bird mode, while the crawler component also transform into a Lynx cat mode. They both combine into a spaceship and transform into a dragonlike beast mode or sometimes called dino-blast mode!
Scramble City was never finished, it ended just as Trypticon was revealed and ready to confront Metroplex. There was supposed to be a part 2 but it was never made.
IIRC the whole idea was, if it was completed, to be a sort of preamble to the 1986 movie. The idea was Metroplex, Trypticon, Superion, Defensor, Bruticus, and Menasor (and of course the component autobots/decepticons of those combiners) were all extremely heavily damaged and rendered inoperable in the ensuing battle, and Megatron retreated to Cybertron leaving only a token force on Earth.
There were 20 years between the end of Season 2 and the movie, Scramble City took place *some* time in that period - it may be 1, 2, 5, 10, 15 or even 19 years into it, this was never made clear.
Metroplex had a larger Autobot City built around him while he was under repair. This explains why the 100+ heavy laser cannons you see in the movie never speak at the incoming Decepticons - the lasers were all part of Metroplex and he was not operable yet, hence also why he needed to be transformed manually.
Trypticon too, as part of the efforts to rebuild him, had a (human) city built around him, obviously the few decepticons left on Earth tricked the human population into helping rebuild him.
This also explains why, in such a large important battle, you never see Superion, Defensor, Bruticus, and Menasor - they are all still ruined from this battle.
Metroplex is so strong, he can throw Trypticon miles away with little effort and strain on his body. The minibots actually thought they could defeat Trypticon all by themselves. Swerve was stomped into the ground like Godzilla stomping Bambi. This episode that visual problems and the writing was terrible.
How did the Decepticons make all of the transformations for Trypticon without the people living there knowing about it?
How do you think the collapse of the World Trade Center buildings in real life were orchestrated? Simple many people living around city but unaware of what was really going on.

I like that Blitzwing not only warned the autobots but also stood up to his errant leader when cybertron was saved. Not many had the nerve to risk Galvatrons wrath.
Bumblebee was on Cybertron and Earth at the same time
Jazz was seen in both places as well. I think the ones seen on Cybertron were merely animation errors like Brawn,Huffer, and Bonecrusher were in Carnage in C-Minor because 1. Bumblebee appeared throughout in the Earth sequences while he was just a cameo or 2 on Earth. 2. Jazz was on the alien planet in Five Faces of Darkness Part 1 and since Warpath(and most likely Bumblebee)were there and then went back to Earth(as they were on Earth in this episode)it makes sense that Jazz went back to Earth with them as well.
@@MisUnderstood_Rose Bumblebee and Warpath were on Earth in part one too, they were watching the games on a screen at Autobot City...l ignore all the Earth scenes in Five Faces anyway as they were atrocious. As was all the nonsense involving Wheelie and Blurr. To me none of that stuff happened, l fast forward through it all when l watch those episodes.
Actually that was Hubcap, not Bumblebee that was on Cybertron.

I loved the Transformers the movie, it was more realistic. It showed you cannot afford to keep letting your enemy regroup. If Daniel didn't make Hotrod go look at the shuttle all of the Autobots would be burnt-out toaster ovens? There are some who to this day blame Hotrod for Optimus Prime death Optimus was taking to long to decide to kill Megatron? Optimus Prime had almost 30 seconds to pull the trigger? Knowing that he was out smarted by Megatron and he lost soldiers under his command he still has to have his self-righteous moment? Ladies and gentleman, Optimus Prime is overrated he lost Cybertron in the beginning of the series, than flatout lost it again completely in the beginning of the movie? Than after Rodimus won the cybertronian war, and regain control of Cybertron he gives Megatron/Galvatron Cybertron back again by leaving Ultra Magnus to be slaughter!? It took Spike a human being to save Cybertron and restore it to the Golden age.

In armada it was proven that prime and Megatron both love the fighting
Megatron had the advantage since season 1 the cons controlled almost all of Cybertron I think the cons let the autobots live for sport and they wanted somebody to fight
Meg's had more troops he had a whole navy.or seekers and similar looking bots the cons had the cadettes first, the first combiner and they had the first triple changes and six changers first so thy could have really destroyed all the autobots if they wanted
The autobots had some good troops too prime could have had the dinobots, omega supreme and sky lynx do some serious damage
Ultra Magnus was a soldier to be used not a leader primeeft that guy in charge twice something rodimus never did

In season 3, they kept destroying everything- the Ark, The Autobot mausoleum( dark awakening) , the lost storage asteroid( surprise party), Optimus Prime( dark awakening), Paradron( fight or flee)....definitely the darkest season...especially w episodes like Dweller in the Depths and Dark Awakening which u wouldnt have had in seasons 1 or 2
No wonder season 4 (post-movie) only had one episode (not counting it being a three part episode), and, most of all, was the end of the original 80s G1 Sunbow Transformers cartoon series (at least in the States). Still wish I knew, though, why Decepticon HQ was never seen again, in season 3 (post-movie), when at least we know what happened to *Autobot* HQ, at this point of the cartoon. And before anyone asks about Spike’s dad Sparkplug (when Spike was now an adult, married Carly - additionally now an adult, and they had a son - Daniel), it is likely that, by the movie (followed by the dark season 3), Sparkplug died.
@@michaelweech6432 , the decepticon ship( nemesis) headquarters was likely destroyed in the ensuing years between season 2 and the movie( 1986 to 2005). as the opening narration of the 1986 movie implies, "It is the 2005. the decepticons have conquered the autobots homeplanet of cybertron...". in the original script it said something about the autobots driven all the decepticons from earth, which seems to be the case: the autobots had earth while the decepticons had cybertron. so ( im quessing), when the final battle occurred over the earth, the Nemesis was likely destroyed while driving them off...
Sparkplug wasnt seen in season 3 as u know, but what's interesting is that he was in Five Faces of Darkness pt 1, in the original script and he was w Blaster and Outback aboard the shuttle investigating the nation of Carbombya for Decepticons. he even had one line. but as to why they didnt include him in the final draft or Chip Chase in season 3 isnt known. a missed opportunity, if u ask me...

I think he was originally going to be in Starscream's Ghost, but Hasbro wanted to push new toys, so his role went to Octane instead.

I understand the intent of Hasbro, because the Blitzwing toy was no longer being produced, but it didn't really make sense to put Octane in Blitzwing's place for that story. It would have been much more logical to have Blitzwing living on Cybertron and being friends with Sandstorm because Blitzwing was a "renegade" at that point.
Too bad the Autobot third wave of mini bots got little screen time, Wheelie got a couple of cameos, Outback seemed to be partnered with Blaster in two episodes but Swerve and Tailgate only got this episode, Pipes appeared once more briefly and Hubcap was a total no show.
How cool would it have been if the Quintessons had temporarily won, and re-established their control over Cybertron and relegated the Transformers, once again, to a slave race? Then you have a multi-episode arc where the Autobots and Decepticons have to work with each other to win back their freedom a second time.
I kinda wished Megatron ran into the Quintessons to see how he would deal with them

i found it strange how Grimlock was frozen considering he and the other Dinobots were Wheeljacks last living invention made from Earth technology and not from Cybertron tech.

@@eastcoastshine2009 Being that Cyclonus was an upgraded Skywarp (yeah, I'm sticking to that), I'm inclined to agree. I always liked the unicronians as a separate faction, not Decepticons proper. If I'm not mistaken, there was word that had there been a season 5, we would've seen an episode entitled rogue Decepticons, bringing back Starscream, Blitzwing, and some other past favorites in their own separate faction. Similar to the tail end of the original G1 comics run.
To all Combiner fans of the TransFormers; don't you all wonder whether the Quintessons created the Seacons after the introduction of the Terrorcons? After the Quintessons introduce the Predacons, you always have to wonder lol.
Blitzwing was MVP in this episode. He has my respect. And the ratings for 5 faces of darkness pt.1 through 5 i'll give it 4 stars out of 5. I like this episode its one of my favorites.

They were but only on Sky.
Series 1 & 2 were on terrestrial TV but after the movie bombed and most of the original characters were replaced the Transformers popularity dropped so Season 3 was only shown on Sattelite TV

Even though Blitswing, didn’t officially join the Autobots, I like how they gave him the outline for the Autobot symbol with Deceptacon colors. A shame they didn’t continue on with this story. Could have been the first bad guy turned good in the transformers franchise.
