If you downgrade the firmware to 1.1.1 you have all the in camera correction options available. Canon forced Viltrox to remove their in camera correction profiles and therefore the newest firmware version don't have those anymore. You might want to try it out! :)
Glad to see alternatives to Canon glass. I hope more lenses get sent to you for evaluation. I am all in with RF, so I look forward to more videos like this.
Superb review, and very useful. Love the soapbox, too. Although an eye-catching price, I view lenses as investments that generally outlive bodies. I hate the feeling that I should have waited and saved up more. Any thoughts on Canon’s f2 85mm, which doesn’t cost that much more?
Well the sigma is like 3 times more expensive also vs the viltrox. I've owned the same lens for my A7iii and I was really happy with it to be honest. For the price it produces some amazing pics for sure.
great review, after 1 month with the amazing viltrox, i returned it and i regretted it. i got the rf 1.2 and it's way too big. for a casual shooter of my family and children. i cant believe i didn't rent the rf85 1.2 before buying it. The viltrox performed perfectly, i'm a bit sad that i can't return the 1.2 (ok that's a bad practice) but viltrox 1.8 and recently a samyang 1.4 came up on cl and that's probably a better ocmpromise
Hi Todd, great video as always...! Greetings from Jakarta. As an EOS RP shooter loving potraiture, I have RF 35mm, RF 50mm F/1.8 and EF 100mm Macro F/2.8. Would you think I need 85mm focal length, given my current line up lens mentioned above? Not much diffrence between 85mm and 100mm, I guess. I tried EF 135mm F/2.0 and fell in love with that lens for beautiful bokeh and sharpness. And makes me confuse whether to buy the Viltrox 85mm or EF 135mm F/2.0. May I have your views, pls.
I find that the best way to know is to try the lens yourself and make that decision. Simply reading specs isn't going to give you the whole picture. UA-cam videos can help, but the best is to have it in hand and try it yourself. Hope that helps.
Good review. I own an old Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 that I'm looking to maybe replace since I just upgraded to a R6 from a 7D. What's your thoughts on the Viltrox vs the Canon?
Rokinon / Samyang and Yongnuo also have RF lenses. I just purchased the Yongnuo 85mm f1.8 RF. I believe that Viltrox and Yongnuo machined the mount on these lenses to fit the RF mounting style but they read electronically as "EF" on the R series Canon cameras.
@@widiartoproboprasetyo9330 I really haven't used it all that much yet. But from my few times using it it's been pretty snappy focus and also pretty silent when in auto focus mode in video. I could hardly tell is was being used. My older Canon EF 85mm f1.8 on my "R" camera was loud when auto focus was on for video.
Fantastic it's just a shame Canon has now banned all 3rd party developers from making rf lenses there saying its there patten Not everyone can afford Canon branded lenses and a lot of successful youtube chanels and business Are successful from 3rd party lenses when starting out p.s it's a sub from me
It was so good that Canon forced Viltrox to stop making and selling it. Same for Samyang. Shame, one slightly cheaper RF lens wasn't going to shake Canon from the tree.
@andredo4880 lol, 7 months ago... I don't even remember typing that. Sure, you can buy EF and use the adapter. The RF third-party lenses are good, but very few of them.
This is what I call a professional review.
Would be better if he actually responded to questions in the comments.

Where do I get the 1.1.1 firmware? I wanna downgrade

that intro was so nice to watch. i’m also gonna need that song
Another great review. Greatly appreciated your presentation.
This is the most complete review so far! Thank you
Just ordered this lens for my R6 AND just found your channel. Subscribed. Thank you for the video. Peace from Japan.

I know it’s RF but you can get the Sigma 85mm art version to do you can use it for EF mounts.

@1:05 there is not mark II canon version from this lens appears yet.
Wow, the cleanest Vid Man! Nice one! just purchased mine wohoooo
Thank you for this review! New sub here. Very clear voice and awesome video quality!
What was the version of the FW you upgraded to? Thanks

I would say go for Canon as it always keeps its value more when you decide to sell it in the future.
Will this viltrox rf 85mm give good output when used with canon r10?
Question; how is it that Viltrox is the only 3rd party making RF lenses? Why haven't we seen Sigma or Tamron on it yet?

@@MaskedFilms So how's the performance of Yongnuo 85mm if you may want to kindly share?

there is also native Nikon Z mount version of this lens.
Your purchase links don't show Mark II lens. Marl II is not mentioned anywhere. How do I know that it is a Mark II lens. What are the specifications?
Have u covered samyang 1.4?
Great review.
I want this. But my cam mount is ef-m. What budget 85mm i can get for my canon m50?
Would you consider canon’s rf 85 F2 lens?
Excellent review, wery well considered (5 stars) 👍
whats this bgm
Is this lens better than Canon EF 85mm 1.8 on Canon R body in terms of quality
I owned that lens, but quickly sold it due to its egregious purple fringing. The PF was horrendous.

Well, this comment didnt age well, :))
Ooof. This hasn’t aged well. Canon has blocked Viktrox on the RF mount and new firmware will not work with the lens.
I don't like the look of this lens for some reason- I prefer the samyang 85 1.5 (The EF version should work since the RF one is discontinued now!)
Debating this or samyang 85
It was so good that Canon forced Viltrox to stop making and selling it. Same for Samyang. Shame, one slightly cheaper RF lens wasn't going to shake Canon from the tree.
What tree? Sigma makes good lenses for EF 1/3 cheaper than RF. Canon lenses that are cheaper than 1500 dollars arent even good 🤦

You've been watching way to much Phillip Bloom!
