A really fine arrangement, Sue and Robin and very artfully played. Sue: you handled those lever changes with such dexterity I hardly noticed them. Robin: your cittern playing is pure delight and is a wonderful paring with Sue's lever harp.
This beautiful tune sort of breaks the heart, and soothes the soul at the same time. It makes me want to weep, from the beauty of it. Thank you for recording it, and sharing it with us.
To Judi, and her other Responders here, may I fill you in a bit??!!!... This 'Tune' was written by 'Jay Ungar' quite a while ago. He wrote it as 'part' of the Music backing for a Documentary about the American Civil War. You can hear him play a more original version... "Jay Ungar & Molly Mason Family Band" Ashokan Farewell... ua-cam.com/video/2kZASM8OX7s/v-deo.html Within the 'Documentary, he 'also' played this 'tune' in the background, during the reading of a real letter by a Soldier "Sullivan Ballou", who was writing what ended up being his last letter to his wife, from the battle-field. "THIS", in itself, is one of the most beautiful writings ever... Today, 'we' have no idea other than emails & text messages & Smart-Phones, how to really 'Communicate' as people would/could in the old days, and the REAL emotions that they could/did show!! Young people today, need to hear/appreciate this!! ua-cam.com/video/1VK1KcZoDu0/v-deo.html I'm an Australian 'Folk' Guitarist, and have enjoyed playing this over many years!!
What a fantastic rendition, of one of my most favorite tunes of all time!!!! I've been playing along with Jay Ungar on the Guitar for many years, and this tune is hard to surpass......
This Piece add's another dimension to Ken Burn's "Civil War". It becomes another Actor and it help's to tie up Story lines. It also communicates between the voice reading, the "touching" love letter, and the Audience. This is Brillience.
What a nice tune! And well done. I am playing it now regularly on my Hayden Duet concertina and it seems to work quite well. Thanks so much to the composer and to these performerts.
Beautiful. This was my son in law favorite song. He passed away 2 days before Christmas 4 yrs ago from unknown cause. My daughter & 3 kids were left and well cared for but without Daddy and husband. This is a tribute to him.
This is absolutely beautiful, this came up in my recommended and I'm so glad it did. We're playing this in my orchestra class. Its so beautiful. Thank you!!
You two have absolutely captured the soul of this tune. Such a nice arrangement of Jay Ungar's music that was already permanently part of me. Thank you both.
Hello Robin and Sue! Sounds great. I must have been out of my mind when I decided to leave the Maryland 'burbs of DC and return to Michigan. I sure do miss the opportunities to play so much music with such fine, talented friends.

I want this song to be the last song played at my funeral and I want this particular sound track. Just beautiful!!

This song tells a story. That story is in the mind and is different for everyone. For me, it brings about memories of mom.
