This episode of In Focus examines the challenges of regional integration in Africa with Ambassador Juma Mwapachu, the former Secretary General of the East African Community.
Ambassador Mwapachu is credited for scaling up the EAC's integration by seeing through the enlargement of the Community through the admission of Rwanda and Burundi into the EAC in July, 2007; consolidating the Customs Union and administering a complex negotiations process leading to the adoption of the Protocol on the EAC Common Market.

Very enlightening discussion. I just can't help but wonder why with all such brilliant thinkers who objectively agree that regional integration has trade-offs our politicians continue pursuing incompetent childish policies that slow down progress. Why do we always end up leaders who think in slow motion?

That's the reality. But should we succumb to that narrative? I don't think so. and if not so, what should we do? Just sit and talk about them?We can't just sit and talk about realities that are negative and do nothing about them.
