    • @swaggery
      @swaggery 4 місяці тому +5

      It makes sense in theory. In reality I don't think you would see depreciation of that much unless the build up to the war was over maybe 5 years and countries started to switch away from the US currency for international transactions. The US dollar is the official currency used by governments in other countries. Also, at least one side of the conflict will accept US dollars for their goods and services for the limited amount they would be producing during this period.

    • @Cund
      @Cund 4 місяці тому +16

      @@swaggery the US $ has no value its only value is the continued stability of the US economy and gov. The only thing the us will give you for your money in a treasury bill which is just the promise to give you even more $'s back in interest. If we were in or headed to a civil war there would be a dumping of the US $ buy all the major countries to keep their economies stable. An they would certainly not continue to finance our debt, unless what ever government is left would be paying crazy interest on it. Civil war would literally pull the bottom cards out from under the house of cards the US financial system.

      @@joemartin6078 I'm sure that what you're saying looked like an elegant solution for Garland to showcase exactly that. I think it's unrealistic though, because Canadian economy is heavily dependent in US. If USD is so devalued, Canadian dollar is worth even less than that. This is obviously not an overnight thing, and USD being so devalued means that US economy has been stagnating for some time. To borrow from Dwight Schrute, if US economy is dead, Canadian economy has been dead for weeks.
      Trudeau's liberal government is doing everything possible to tax people more but then they also insist on spending money left and right. Canadian economy is worse than Texas, or state of New York, or California, with a significantly larger population.
