I look at it from a different viewpoint. I think how we dress is part of giving ourselves to God. If you are poor you still wear the best you have. I think many Americans come to church dressed way too casually. If you would not dress that way to go to work, should you do so to go to church? I think this also is a matter of personal conscience. No one should be shamed for this, just something we should each consider. Are we bringing our best to God when we come into his presence during a service?
Another Correction: answer to number 2 I believe it was ACTS 2:24 where it states “it was not possible for him (Jesus) to be held by it (pains/horror of death). But it also states, ‘GOD released Jesus from death’ not that Jesus’ own power released himself. And so does other prophesies point or symbolize/allude to GOD not allowing Jesus to remain in death or the grave after successfully ie faithfully completing his task. Peter mentioned King David’s word foreshadowing the resurrection of the Christ. And there too he indicates God was responsible for raising His Son Jesus. *PSALMS 16:10* *ACTS 2:25-28, 30-33* So Jesus was NOT required to be a deity or even divine in order to be resurrected. There were a handful of resurrections in scripture and those who were brought back to life was not required to be divine or a deity to be resurrected. That argument fails. Even the apostle Paul, speaking about the resurrection acknowledges that the possibility of everyone qualifying to be resurrected does so by way of the resurrection of one MAN, Jesus. *1 CORINTHIANS 15:21*
I dress modestly because I don’t want a man to look at me with lust, and because I feel that there are parts of my body that are for my husband and also because I don’t want to cause my brother to stumble.
I have to do that too, I quit going to the gym before church because well, that energy from your workout, the pumped up arms etc I know arms and upper body are out most attractive features but I get more compliments about my face and eyes wich is better then getting my arms and chest felt up. I'm glad I don't have a narcissistic attitude secular women say I'm a perfect 10 and they get intimidated by Me, but women at church say "he's handsome I love his eyes, he has a cute face."

Michelle I'm an older married woman and I don't like these Yoga pants either. One girl on worship team that's all she wears with a shirt that allows her lower body to be shown. I feel if you wear these tights or pants then please have a long blouse or dress to cover yourself. It's also hard seeing these on women in public much less in church! Why is this so prevalent? How can that be comfortable?! I wonder how you all feel about worship music that doesn't have God mentioned or Jesus' name? Some of the music says just you in place if God's name. I find this really bothers me.
As a recovered mormon, what got me saved was the realization that I didn't have to work my way to heaven. I learned that God wanted me to come to him just the way I was, and he would begin a work in me
I’m a former Catholic, raised in the faith and attended a Catholic school all my life. I have recently (actually) come to Christ and I still struggle with this. Like that feeling of if I sin I lose my salvation and have to work for it. This was literally how I thought it worked up until two months ago. I struggle with the “Catholic guilt” as many do, as well. I feel like if I would have known that you are saved by faith through grace, I would have been saved a long time ago. The idea that you have to measure up to God’s standards to be saved is exhausting and I don’t know how people do that.
@@musteepa I was raised Catholic and I was super dedicated as a child got saved at 25 and the best news was 2Cor. Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. Start underinlyng everything God says about you in the Bible. Ephesians Chapter 1 & 2 are a treasure trove of good news. God bless you! I have been saved for 37 years and teaching the Bible and making disciples. So get into God's word and Jesus will set you free.

Even as a fitness professional who has taught at fitness conventions and been in videos, etc. I always have a long tank top or long shirt to cover that far or sweat shirt wrapped around my back side. I always make sure I have a high neck type of fitness top on so no cleavage shows. I even wear long sleeves a lot and also capris or long pants. Never shorts. This wasn’t always the case. When I got born again, this was something I was delivered from that the LORD took away from me. But that was for me!!!
Same. But I currently only do CrossFit. I do leggings still, and lose fitting tanks, with the higher necks. I can’t say that I can cover my bum with extra clothes tho, because of the nature of CrossFit.
I wear bike pants alot during summer but paired with a long baggy shirt. Because where i live most days during summer are 30+ degrees. So the other options are much less modest than bike shorts. Espesh if its a hot windy day 😅
As a women, I’ve stopped wearing yoga-type pants around others as it doesn’t foster holiness for my brothers and sisters in Christ (thinking of others vs my own comfort). There’s a wonderful TGC article by Megan Hill called, “The Modesty Conversation We Need to Have” provides a biblical perspective… “It may not be our responsibility if someone sins, but it is our privilege to help prevent it. Because we love the saints-because Christ loves the saints-we are willing to choose our clothing to encourage the holiness of the community.” Honoring God is a grace-driven journey…trusting Him should always supersede individual expression. ♥️

I think we have to be careful though. Given the context of the rest of scripture I think his conclusion about you can eat whatever you want and you can observe whatever days you want is contrary to God's commandments. Jesus taught, if you love me keep my commandments. Plus numerous other scriptures which teach that rejecting God's Laws is a negative thing. Romans 14 is not exempting us from keeping those things God has commanded. It is referring to those things for which there is no commandment. For example the weekly Sabbath is expressly commanded. Roman 14 does not exempt someone from that commandment just because they are convicted in their own mind that they don't need to observe it. That is just making our own mind an idol that we choose to follow rather than God. Instead what Romans 14 is saying is that maybe I think July 7th is special for me. No where in scripture is July 7th commanded to be observed so I cannot require other Christians to observe July 7th as a special day.

Most people approach this as if it's only men checking out women. The only person who got criticized in the Bible for worshipping the Lord not covered up enough was David, not any woman.
I had a dream a couple weeks ago where I was walking and I looked down and realized that I was only wearing a shirt and opaque tights; I saw people walking but they didn’t seem to mind my appearance. Once I awakened and had time to process my dream, I realized that my attire was not suitable for a born again believer. I work from so my attire is very casual and I didn’t give it a second thought to wear my comfy wear outdoors and to run errands. I feel guilty of how my witness was tarnished by my appearance. "Walk in the spirit and you WILL NOT fulfill the lust of the flesh" And cleansing out minds "by the washing of the water of the Word". Basically dont depend on your flesh to do something only the Spirit can do. Jesus said "My yoke is easy and my burden is light" not women cover your bodies from head to toe so as not to stumble someone. @@nerychristian I don't remember the context of this convo really. But "all things are lawful, but all things aren't beneficial". And we are supposed to do all things to the glory of God. I don't think Christ followers are going to be wearing things that they dont have a clear conscience about. We are all works in progress and He is very gracious and patient. A lot of women stuggle with shame in this area through no fault of their own- just objectification. So tldr be kind to your sisters, Mothers, nieces who are in Christ and pray for the Holy Spirit to convict and bring freedom.
When I was in the world secular music was a big part of my life and now that I’m saved, I have to wear headphones even walking through the grocery store because they always play music and I don’t want the songs to get stuck in my head (happens almost instantly). Music is the only thing that can hijack your subconscious mind without your permission so me personally, I have to stay far away from it. Great video pastor Mike! 🙏🏽
I second the issue with music. I was a producer/hip hop artist for most of my life so I've done shows in dark environments and made music with terrible lyrics, id even been given a major record deal opportunity and turned it down out of fear for my soul many years ago (before I was saved, I grew up in church still n also have seen the industry) I'd been heavy into all types of music since I was 9. I honestly don't listen to music at all at the stage I'm at rn. I don't even trust a lot of the Christian music because there are a lot of hypnotizing frequencies and repetition (which is meant to stay in your mind) and repetition is a brainwashing technique...now if id trusted the artists and it was old hymns its one thing, but most current artists I do not trust. I'm in a spot. Its fine, I just need some time away from it because for many years it was such a big part of my life and I know the ins and outs of some things, I need to be away from it for now. Music can soothe or destroy the mind, its just about finding what soothes it in a Biblically sound way that glorifies the creator, I'm glad that you found that. Hip hop/rock/r&b, etc are stumbling blocks to me currently and I've noticed a lot of worship music isn't worship at all but instead about selfish expectations of God. God bless.

I was working for a friend of mine who got signed to a record label and I thank God he got me out of that life before I got in too deep. You’re right about everything you said, the music industry is sooo deep and dark and not a game to play with. I started watching The Truth Behind Hip Hop by G. Craig Lewis and learning all that stuff about frequencies and it makes me that much more grateful that God rescued me from that world. You’re right about the Christian music too, I stopped listening to all music for over a year until God strengthened me and I still have a long way to go but glory to God for bringing me out of the world and into his kingdom! 🙏🏽
I'll have to ring in here. I was heavily involved as a traveling musician from a young age. When I was saved, I played in church praise bands, but I recognized that music greatly sways the moods of the audience and in many ways, I saw it as manipulating the listeners. If I hear a song or jingle earlier in the day, I find myself humming it constantly throughout the day, subconsciously. I will not attend a church with a band, lights, smoke machine, or cameramen. To me, it has just become entertainment.
As someone who has grown up simply listening to melodic instrumental music(and still do since my impression of most modern music with lyrics, even wholesome lyrics, seems that it's often rather bland) I just want to add that, similar to those who once struggled with alcoholism, I totally understand wanting and even needing to be totally separated from such things. The bible recognizes that wine can be a wonderful blessing, but for someone who had an addiction, it can trip a person up even at the sight of it. In the same way, for someone who was immersed in the dark side of music, that now even music intended for godly worship can stir up memories and emotions tied to the godlessness that was associated with certain patterns and sounds used in that kind of music. I just stopped by to encourage you in your walk with the Lord, and pray that some day, whether in this earthly body or in your glorified body, you will be able to fully enjoy the blessings of singing praises to our Lord and Father! P.S. I have to agree that a lot of modern christian music seems to seek to emulate worldly trends and is also less focused on the glorification of God in exchange for the glorification of ourselves and our feelings/emotions about said God. Not to mention how bland some of the songs are musically and theologically. There's a golden nugget every once in awhile, but ye ol' trusty hymns are my go-to as well!
Music is emotional even worship music, however worship songs count as worship when you're in prayer and meditation. However when you are in deep prayer and praying alone, put on classical music or instrumental music. It helps me clear the cloud in my mind and focus on God.
Also one more thing, I have high respect for someone who is about unity with our siblings in Christ. I love that he says "I disagree because" rather than "your wrong because". It's much more respectful and inviting for open communication and character building.
I cannot emphasize how much your example of a Biblical approach to life has helped me navigate the difficult questions of my faith. The Holy Spirit is certainly at work through you, Mike.

I have to wear yoga pants or pajama pants because I can't stand the feel of anything else. And I only wear yoga pants out. If I'm at home, I'm always in pajama pants because of my sensory processing disorder (I'm autistic) and yoga pants are too uncomfortable to wear for long periods even though I get them a few sizes too big so they fit loosely. But I don't really know what the difference is between yoga pants and dress pants other than the material. They look the same, unless you look closely (I only buy black ones that are 95% cotton). I've tried to wear sweat pants, but they are just too uncomfortable. I don't know what I would do without yoga pants. (I can't wear skirts because I need sit cross legged. And as a teen, before yoga pants were a thing, I would wear pajama pants to church or out in public in general)

There's nothing modest about yoga pants. Men are responsible for their thoughts, women are responsible for wearing clothing that's very revealing, immodest and meant to draw attention to their body
I think I dress modestly, but I always wear yoga pants because I have sensory processing disorder (I'm autistic) and my options are yoga pants or pajama pants. I wear them loosely and wear all my other clothing loosely because I can't stand wearing anything tight. I have bought other pants before, but I can't make myself wear them. I need to be able to sit with my legs up, so my pants have to be stretchy. In my opinion, yoga pants are just like any other pants, but they are made of t-shirt material so they are soft to the touch. I look like I'm wearing baggy black pants and they're not revealing at all. But even if they were skin tight, I wear large clothes (I'm petite) and my shirts could pass for a short dress in length. Most people I know probably think I'm either a few sizes larger than my actual size or that I'm just a pile of bones draped in loose fitting clothes. Just because they're yoga pants doesn't mean they're immodest.

Today’s styles don’t leave much to the imagination. If a man can’t look away, it’s because he hasn’t developed that one fruit of the Spirit which is “self-control”. The closer we get to God, the stronger we become. I think there’s a place and dress code for everything. Let all we do be for the glory of | in reverence to God. Oh boy Ladies....when it comes to modesty on stage, that's a very important subject! As a worship leader myself, I have given this very serious and deep consideration. The number 1 important thing to remember is that when you are on stage, you are a leader. Not only to those who are on stage with you (also leading) but to those who are in the congregation and your job is to be a priest. You are essentially leading the congregation into the throne room of the Living God. Now have that perspective when you look at yourself in the mirror on Sunday morning. Not "what is the latest style" "does this outfit flatter my shape or make me look good among men (men and women)" NO! Think, I am about to lead people into Throne Room to worship my Savior and Heavenly Father with the aid of the Holy Spirit. Am I limiting that???? Ask it every time and let the Holy Spirit convict and guide from there. You will also find that as you mature (as I have!) that it will effect how your dress the rest of the week. I wear yoga pants almost every single day but I will never lead in them nor will I wear ripped jeans (my own personal preference) because I am a child of God and I will dress in that royalty. And that modesty is not only your outward appearance but much more importantly your inward heart position which will effect what is seen on the outside. Ladies, please allow the Holy Spirit to guide in as you choose your outfits, but much more importantly, get in the Word so that your heart changes to be more sensitive to His Will in your life. i had the very humbling experience of having to surrender my conscience to the lord and accept the way i thought was wrong. the devil had gotten such a grip of fear on me that i became paralyzed over everything. it came to the point were i could not even accept grace. allow god to change and strengthen your conscience because if it stays week to an extreme the devil will pounce

Wonderful teaching. The church I attended for many years before retiring and moving had a ministry for addicts of various kinds. Living the 'law of love' was essential for helping brothers and sisters in their walk.
@@stevej71393 Yes. We had two very good organizers that had started out in AA but were later certificated in the more Christ-centered version of Celebrate Recovery. I agree regarding the recovery principles being applicable to general church programs. After all, when AA and the step programs were started, they took the patterns from Biblical discipling and applied them to helping addicts. The truth is that Christ's church here on earth is not meant to be run like a palace for the righteous, because none of us are in ourselves; we are all dealing with something no matter how long we've walked with the Lord. Real righteousness comes only by trusting in the merit of the blood of Jesus the Righteous One. The church community has instead been meant to be a home for rehabilitation for those who admit they are broken, oppressed, and lost. "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Even that church where I attended initially met some resistance from long time members interacting with people struggling through their issues. A few parishioners weren't ready for it and went elsewhere. But the pastor pressed on and continues to this day supporting the work. That work has actually been a blessing, with a lot of members learning to come clean about their problems and seeking pastoral help. Transparency and the humility to seek help are good things. (Reminds me a bit of Pastor Chuck opening his congregation to the Jesus People, losing some of the old timers but receiving the Lord's blessing of increase.) Anyway, in this country addiction is a scourge everywhere. The gospel and power of Jesus is what people need. I hope more local congregations reach out to meet that need. To Question 15 about feeling emotional over Jesus sacrifice: It's great that you're asking this question! Too many people would just assume their own experience thus far is the benchmark of how to experience God. What Mike said is absolutely right, in that some people are just emotional and others aren't, however that doesn't mean that you can't experience that regardless of how emotionless you may be in daily life. It may be that it just hasn't fully sunk in, or that because it's not new information, it doesn't hit you the same as if it was fresh. I'm sure we all experience thinking of a loved one who has passed, but without breaking down, not because it isn't sad, but because it happened a long time ago. And this can easily happen with how we feel about the bible. Particularly if we've grown up knowing the stories. There's not necessarily one single point where we've been faced with that fact. None of that is to say you can't though, and if that sense of personal connection is something that you want, ask God for it! Persevere in prayer about it, and seek greater understanding in the Bible. I'd strongly recommend reading John chapters 17 through 18 together in context. See how personal Jesus care for his disciples is, and also for us, in his prayer. Then see the context in which that is prayed, and how even as he willingly gives himself up to be killed, his concern is for his friends, and that they not be harmed. The key thing is to ask God to soften your heart on this matter, and to give you a greater understanding and appreciation for what Jesus did for you, and to know it in a way that goes beyond simple knowledge. Don't try and summon it up yourself, rely on Him. And be patient.

1:16:20 In regards to Q15…thank you for your response. This is something I believe that after nearly 17 years of being a Christian is actually being revealed to me too. Through my entire walk with God, I know what He’s done in my life and how he’s changed me but I can only ever explain that for me it’s always felt like something was missing. Has a child I was abused by my brother and I constantly think I am not good enough or worthy enough to be loved by God. Now, I know none of us are good enough or worthy, but it has somehow scarred my walk with the Lord. I have however, recently come to the conclusion that I just haven’t fully grasped Gods grace and the work of the cross and what Jesus has done for me. I pray God will really help me with this because I’m so frustrated and actually hate how I feel because I WANT TO KNOW how much of a sinner I am and how much Gods grace is so when I think of what Jesus did, I am genuinely in my heart thankful and not just recognise it as head knowledge. So confusing, please pray for me 🙏🏻

And I'd just encourage you to keep praying about that, and ask God to reveal things to you, if perhaps there's something you're not fully grasping yet. Above all, spend time with Him, and in the Word. My prayer is that as you continue faithfully in this, God will give you a deeper understanding and experience of his love for you. That you'd come to know with certainty just how much He loves you, and than your past experiences, or your own failures, are so small in comparison, and that nothing can ever take you away from the love we have in Jesus.

This is my supporting argument for why I head cover. I am weak in the faith. It helps me not to stumble and is a personal conviction. Thank you Mike and God bless.
For question 19: one thing I’ve found in my own life is evaluating how my heart is affected. For example, if I’m watching a show or movie where two characters are not married but it’s leading to them having sex and I find myself ROOTING for that outcome.. I can feel that I want that to happen.. then I need to stop. I first noticed this when I was watching glee and I found myself rooting for the gay couple and I realized - oh wow. This is turning my heart to something God doesn’t approve of. Another thing for me is looking at how things are portrayed. If there is an affair in the movie - is it considered a good thing or does it have horrible consequences? Because if I’m supposed to be rooting for it (LOOKING AT YOU NICHOLAS SPARKS) then I can’t support it. But if it’s part of a bigger story and it’s not glorified or applauded… might be okay. There’s all kinds of awful things that happen in scripture that aren’t “appropriate,” but they are shown for what they are and the effects of that evil become apparent. It’s not GOOD that Abraham lied and passed his wife off to another man… but we wouldn’t stop reading the Bible because of it. So if something bad happens in a movie but it’s portrayed as bad.. then okay. Hope that makes sense. For true stories or documentaries - what are they trying to say? What do they want me to believe? Is it biblical? Do I feel my heart being swayed to something unbiblical because of beautiful cinematography and acting? Because of the music? Oh another thing.. laugh tracks. If a show has laugh tracks, pay attention to the reaction they WANT you to have to each joke or scenario. Because if you have a different conviction, you get the sense that EVERYONE in the world disagrees with you. So you’re being programmed to believe whatever the current cultural narrative is by a false peer pressure. All that said - know the Bible and if you feel your heart drifting to something other than what God says is good.. Let it go.
A solid discussion though, is how factually pornographic most sexual scenes in shows are now. NO Christian’s should be participating in those shows. Just because the FCC has dramatically changed how they approve content for TV, does not magically make it not pornographic. Way too many Christian women watch disgusting “romance” shows in the evenings. Its just their version of porn, and they think it’s fine just because it’s not found on porn hub. Also noteworthy, is smut books, with the same content for women.
But what makes something sin for you? Yes The Bible is extremely clear about what sexual sins are, It's also quite clear about the Consequences of choosing such courses in life. But if your faith Indicates that you are free from the consequences of those sins because you're already saved, Why bother yourself with concern?

Thank you for your response to question 18. As a person who is in an extreme situation, I have had the LOVE chapter thrown at me and twisted by my husband who claims to be a Christian. Even others (especially his family who also claim to be Christian) have used parts of that chapter and others to convince me to overlook the abuse and infidelity and keep living with him. Thankfully, God allowed a way for me to escape him even though I’m still dealing with post separation abuse. Having children with him makes it even harder, not only on me but also on the kids. I don’t fully understand what all the verses mean either, but I do know that they are not a burden for me to force me to lay aside proper judgement and wisdom if I truly do love someone. That contradicts so many other parts of scripture. Thank you for shining light on these scriptures. I really enjoy listening to these Q & As.

I’m thankful for question sixteen. I’m really bad at reading and studying these days, but I listen all the time. I feel a certain amount of guilt because my bibles pretty much live on my closet shelf now. I do read from apps in small portions to check what people say or to obey my teachers (like you, Mike) when they suggest chapter readings from time to time. Your answer was timely and made me feel better.
I would think we all should look to more experienced believers (in our church) to see how they do things. Women should seek out other women and get advice on clothes. The woman who asked the question was a blessing to my heart. She is listening to the spirit within her.
My thing is? A woman can be covered head to toe but if a guy has lust in his heart he’s still gonna lust regardless. If a man don’t control himself than sexual temptation will control him an override him seen it many times over the years. It’s a wonder no body get in us guys being shirtless showing off our muscles I better hush lol
Thank you for Q-15! My scale is about 1-5, so I can relate! Or sometimes it comes out sideways. Not at the moment, but in unguarded times like when listening to evocative music or hiking in the wilderness. We all process differently.

I was a believer all my life & am 64 yrs old now. .. It didn’t HIT ME PERSONALLY tho on what Christ actually DID for us until about 2015. .. But when I did .. I cried hard. I just don’t think I fully understood… 💕
Do you think you can cry and not have emotions? I think love is dispassionate and emotions are only whisperings from the devil and evil spirits regardless of wether they convince you to feel happy or sad.
Praying for you brother. Last year I went through covid and I personally felt it affected my brain, I felt very foggy for months. God’s grace is enough. My best guess regarding what it means that love believes all things is that love believes all true things. So if I’m dealing through a disagreement with someone, I need to love that person by believing that what they say is true or trustworthy, or believing the best of them. Sometimes we can share what our real motives and thoughts were behind our actions and people can be convinced that you are lying and not believe what is true. I think trust and believing is vital in loving relationships (including our relationship with God and what He says about Himself to us. We must believe what He says is true.) When it is absolutely clear that someone is being dishonest then that doesn’t fall into this Bible verse.

Thank you Pastor Winger for this session of Q&A. Many of the Q you covered happens to be things I either have pondered to formula a good answer, so you have given me some things to continue to consider and continue to fine tuned my own answers.
On your first question, about yoga pants wearing. I completely agree that they aren’t appropriate normal attire for females, but even more so near the pulpit during corporate worship. That’s a place to be extra modest, and direct ALL attention off of ourselves and onto God. But with that said, I do CrossFit. The workout requires certain clothing for the functional purpose of the very high impact, fast paced, up down constant movements. So for this, I do need to wear abnormally clingy clothing such as these leggings. But I would never wear shorts there because of the often compromising movements, nor would I ever wear tank tops that showed any cleavage. My tops are loose and higher collared, because I don’t want any physical attention from anyone but my husband. Now I did have 1 time last year, where my church had an evening event with a guest speaker. I’m a full time mom and homeschool, and I have my gym time, and my sons athletics as well. So for that event I was faced with the choice, attend the evening event without time to shower and change clothes, or stay home completely because I didn’t have the spare time to go prepared myself into church attire. I opted to just go as I am, my son and I sat in the back row, and no one even noticed us until the event was over. So while my leggings were not ideal, or preferred, sometimes life happens and you need to decide what’s more important. And it would have grieved me if a church congregant told me later, that I shouldn’t have gone in those clothes, because I tried to move mountains that day just to attend at all. And worked really hard to make it work. So if I was told that, and insinuated that I was a sort of harlot… it would grieve me. And I think I wouldn’t really feel welcome there overall, for them being so quick to cast a judgment on me, without even learning how hard it was for me to make it there at all.
I call BS. Women always use the excuse of having to wear tight clothes in order to workout. Why is it ok for men to wear loose shorts or sweat pants to workout? But women feel they have to wear super tight clothes to the gym?
Many of these questions can only be answered through the Spirit. Too many evangelicals are looking for laws in the Bible to guide our decisions. Yet, even a cursory reading of the scripture, shows we are to walk and make decisions in the Spirit. Once we begin to live in the Spirit, the answers become quite clear.
Such a great answer to Question 7. Mike I pray that the Lord will completely restore you to help. That being said, your propensity to over work, may need a "thorn in the flesh" to keep you in check??? Thank you, my brother, for sharing your wisdom and insight into God's Word!
Mike, I always appreciate your attempts to be fair-minded and biblically faithful. First, let's be real here; what most women are wearing in public are just spandex leggings, not real yoga pants. This topic really is not that complicated. My 94 year old grandfather said it best recently. He quipped "Women would go naked if we (society) let them." He said this in front of my 91 year old grandmother, who nodded in agreement. I've never met a man who couldn't admit that yoga pants are provocative. Modesty is something sorely lacking in most American women, even in the church. Ladies, if you love your brothers in Christ, kindly help us out by exhibiting modesty and class.

Hello, as a woman worship leader, thank you for touching on this bible passage. I was thinking the same as you but it is nice to see it line up in scriptures. When it comes to modesty, I simply try to be spirit led. People have so many different opinions on what is good and what is not, I would never make everyone happy. What I do, is respect dress codes for stage that have been set by the elders and dress according to my spirit. I will also have my husband weigh in on things and if its questionable for me I will lean away.
I agree with comments about skin tight clothes being inherently immodest. To be completely honest I have only read some examples of what was considered modest in the earliest churches, but it seems skin tight clothes and shear clothing was considered immodest consistently. I also thinking trying to create arguments for why it should be allowed today can bring up issues with God's impartiality and create a cause to be considered with other discussions about what is or should be permissible.
I think it's a pretty easy standard - if you're wearing clothes that draw attention to your body then it's not modest. We're called to not love the world or the world's culture. This goes for men and women, but it affects women more because a lot of their clothes are designed to draw attention to their tops & bottoms.
I’m very encouraged to see the comments and see how many women choose to dress modestly out of self conviction. Thank you, ladies! So refreshing to see! I used to dress immodestly, and then I felt convicted. I now only wear modest dresses and skirts. I feel more feminine, confident, and covered. My husband prefers this style as well, and I am happy to honor him by dressing in a way he also prefers.
Thank you Mike. There’s always something from these Q&As that helps me. Today that was Q15. I’m very emotionally flat and my lack of emotion towards God has made me feel really downcast at times. I’ve felt that I mustn’t be saved or born again and that I do not love God. The truth is I unfortunately don’t really have feelings for anyone - I did not even cry or get sad when my grandparents died. I wish I weren’t like this as it would help me to not doubt the sincerity of my faith all the time.

@@lamingtonw After hearing a brother teach from the scriptures at a men's group, an understanding came to me later that night about the weight of sin which Jesus carried. This did not come about by me working up emotions. But, like Mike mentioned, the understanding brought about emotion. It seems that what I had heard taught was later used by the Lord to make things sink into my heart. I encourage you to continue in Biblically meditating on scripture and sound teaching. I don’t think you need to be emotional in any sense, on any topic. The question really isn’t about your emotions and feelings. With your faith, and belief in God, and trust in Him, that will look VERY different for everyone. Emotional people will be emotional about their religion. More logic brained people will be more logic brained about their religion. So you can be unemotional about your faith friend!! As long as you do fully believe and trust in God, and Jesus Christ’s work on the cross, and His penal substitutionary atonement for you and all your sins. And then of course repent, and keep with repentance. Then you learn more of God, and scripture, and grow in the faith, into maturity and spiritual wisdom, bit by bit every year. That’s what it should look like for any Christian! This process has absolutely zero dependence on emotionality, and in many ways it can be a blessing to be more logic brained. It can give you the ability to have better discernment, because you aren’t as clouded by emotions as the average person. God made you exactly the way you are for His Glory, and He wants you to take any gifts you have and put them to work for Him and the Body. You are not defective, or a lesser in any way! You are just you, and that’s ok. You can do great things in Christ’s name, as soon as you stop comparing yourself to other people. 🙏🏽♥️
I really love the q & a part of these videos. I learn so much. I thought a bit about the Love believes all things and endures all things. It's very sad when an abuser uses these words to try to validate their bad actions. Then the other person thinks the same wrong thought . I think endures means lasts in this instance. I also imagine the presence of a baby or my father on his deathbed from alzheimers. He couldnt speak, could barely move yet he reached my hand and would pat it, attempting to give Me comfort. His love endured until the end. So while these words apply to daily life and relationships I think it's much deeper . I thought about how the love filled the room the first time I brought my son, 5 days old, to meet his grandparents. His presence stirred all those things, especially our hope , joy, the love that is generated from within first from Christ's love and mercy . So I think beleives all things is more about the internal optimistic outlook which mirrors the promise of Christs love for us which we become aware of when we love others. I kind of rambled and I apologize for that.!
@Mike Winger my fatigue from Covid literally lasted for a year. A sudden bout of fatigue would hit out of the blue when I thought I was over it, so hang in there, it will get better.
Hey Mike thanks for your ministry, I love how you open yourself up to answering people’s questions. My understanding of Jesus needing to be divine is that a perfect human could save the life of another human, but not multiple humans, but if he was also God, that would enable him to save everyone. That may have been Grudem’s point .. also for the mushroom/drug question, it’s worth noting that after the fall, there were many fundamental changes in plants and animals (animals can’t talk, snakes crawl, there’s weeds where there used to be food), so it shouldn’t surprise us if that was the case with drugs. Just some thoughts, thanks again!
I appreciate this. I had a girl get really angry with me once because she insisted that the only appropriate attire was long skirts and dresses. I take modesty seriously and I always do my best to be modest. But I disagree with assigning a “dress code” to women. That’s essentially what the Pharisees did. They created laws on top of the already existing laws to ensure that people couldn’t break the law. They became legalistic and following the “rules” became a compulsion instead of an honor.
The Holy Spirit should be the judge. He will let you know when you are in error. It should not even be a "Dress Code". I believe a person knows when they have crossed the line.
"too heavy of a burden for women to bear." Wow 😳 where were you during the toxic "purity" movement? I used to ask my husband all the time if a certain piece of clothing was immodest and usually he would reply "you could be wearing a potato sack and if a man wants to lust he will. You look beautiful not overtly sexual don't worry. I'd let you know if you looked inappropriate." Totally changed my view of myself and I stopped being so scared of just my existence causing men to sin.

I really appreciate the answer to 15. Im not an inherently emotive person, and rarely, if ever, break down and cry over anything, good or bad. So hearing that if this is my reaction in day to day life, then not having some over the top breakdown for what Jesus did for us isnt something I need to be ashamed of or concerned about. Obviously I recognize what a big deal it is, and it gets me quite emotional relatively to "normal" for me, but a lot of times Ive been called a false believer for not having a crazy, outward emotional breakdown. Thanks for being helpful!
Saved is an absolute state, while faith evolves and deepens through out our life. The Apostles were saved when they accepted and followed Jesus, but their faith deepened after Pentecost.
I personally do not think if you are wearing yoga pants and a long shirt that it's wrong. I personally do not feel convicted of that. Especially, since I have nerve damage and cannot wear regular paints or have anything that squeezes my nerves in my hips and back. If I'm doing everything in my power to be modest and healthy for me, and someone still lusts, That is not my responsibility. I do not have control over someone else's sin-not if I'm biblically doing what I need to do.
To an extent, sure, but at the same time Galatians 6 would argue that you should be striving to help those dealing with sin to get out of it, even if that means changing up your wardrobe a little bit. We are supposed to encourage one another and carry each others burdens, not kick them to the curb and go “that’s a you problem so you have to fix it”. We are 1 body, if one part is struggling, the entire body suffers.
Everything you mentioned is true. Everyone has a duty to themselves and to others. Yet, if someone like me struggles to change their attire due to chronic pain but still strives to think of others, it becomes irrelevant. Although it's essential to support one another, I maintain my stance: if I'm doing my best for others, at the end of the day every believer needs to be taking their struggles and sin to the Lord. They are responsible for their own well-being.

I'm in agreement with Pastor Mike's views on the clothing (yoga pants, bikinis, skinny jeans, etc). Leggings are not pants. Yoga pants are not pants. Skinny jeans are like a second skin. As a woman, I don't want a man seeing every curve on areas that would only be seen by my husband. Wouldn't surprise me if soon pantyhose became the next leggings. 🤦🏻♀️

I used to watch a lot of things that were not good during my walk with Christ. I was rebaptised a year or two ago (when I actually understood what it meant) and was convicted of things I hadn't been previously. I ALWAYS watched Ghost Adventures, it was my favorite show from a young age to the point where my friend and I had a ghost hunting club in the 2nd grade. I watched it throughout high school and dreamed of getting the equipment to talk to spirits. After reading the bible and trying to biblically discern if this was okay or not I clearly learned that it was not okay for me to do, and I had previously denounced new age practices I had been involved in (tarot, astrology, trying to astral project, crystals, etc.) Jesus is so much more important than all of those things and I ditched them immediately. It's led me to be more discerning about what I take in and if it is honoring of Jesus, and honoring of my new life in Christ. There is a lot to be enjoyed in God's creation anyways - if you don't know what to watch, marvel at a sunset 😊
@@chosensoldier Thank you for commenting! Baptism can be controversial, I understand your wanting to make sure people are being biblical about what they do. However I would caution you at making inflammatory comments and maybe personally reaching out to the person to see why they did what they did and helping them discern from there would be better. I decided to be rebaptized because I was very young when I was baptized initially, and questioned the legitimacy of it. I didn't have a deep understanding of baptism or what it stood for so I decided to be baptized again. You are certainly not required to be rebaptized, but if you are originally baptized into something false (Mormonism, if they even do that, Jehovah's witness, etc.) Then I do think rebaptism is warranted because you weren't baptized in the name of Jesus. I would say the same for children who are too young or too immature to understand exactly what it means.
When I was LDS I “bore my testimony” many times as I was taught to, even though I didn’t believe in the church. I was just going through the motions and doing what I was taught to do.
Ladies this is simple. Would you seriously wear that in front of Jesus? Seriously! Think about it before you answer that. Ladies we KNOW exactly WHY we wear what we wear!
Two 'principles' that can guide us in the matter of dress/attire: 1) 1st century had no 'worship leaders' so it is our generation who has chosen to put singers & musicians before the rest of the congregation. In that position we ought to hold them to a higher standard - not quite the vetting of an elder but still responsible to consider their example in dress and in conduct before others . . . one of the reasons not to put any 'unseasoned' believer into any visible role (no matter how amazing his/her musical skill!); 2) there are other ways of 'dress' that can distract from the worship/praise/message, e.g. displays of wealth such as jewelry, furs, designer clothing, etc. on any who preach, teach ('prophesy'), lead prayer, lead singing. 'Immodest dress' is not just the sexual distraction but would, I believe, fall into the chastising by Paul toward the 'haves' of Corinth who did not consider in love, their 'have not' brothers and sisters. (1 Cor 11:17-34)
I’m not even trying to be funny but if ripped jeans and kneecaps make you stumble , you have a much larger issue going on that has nothing to do with other people.
The thing is that most most ripped jeans aren’t just ripped at the kneecap, they’re ripped the entire way down the front to an extent. They can be way more revealing than just “kneecaps”
Well, look at it from this angle: what about people that are being delivered from a $3x or p0rn addiction? Clearly they are easily swayed, but doing everything within their power sometimes isn't enough. That's exactly why these scriptures are talking about not allowing your neighbor to stumble or fall. No Christian is perfect, so really this is the best defense we have to combat lust in the church.

I look at it from a different viewpoint. I think how we dress is part of giving ourselves to God. If you are poor you still wear the best you have. I think many Americans come to church dressed way too casually. If you would not dress that way to go to work, should you do so to go to church? I think this also is a matter of personal conscience. No one should be shamed for this, just something we should each consider. Are we bringing our best to God when we come into his presence during a service?

I believe it was ACTS 2:24 where it states “it was not possible for him (Jesus) to be held by it (pains/horror of death).
But it also states, ‘GOD released Jesus from death’ not that Jesus’ own power released himself.
And so does other prophesies point or symbolize/allude to GOD not allowing Jesus to remain in death or the grave after successfully ie faithfully completing his task.
Peter mentioned King David’s word foreshadowing the resurrection of the Christ. And there too he indicates God was responsible for raising His Son Jesus.

I have to do that too, I quit going to the gym before church because well, that energy from your workout, the pumped up arms etc I know arms and upper body are out most attractive features but I get more compliments about my face and eyes wich is better then getting my arms and chest felt up. Michelle I'm an older married woman and I don't like these Yoga pants either. One girl on worship team that's all she wears with a shirt that allows her lower body to be shown. I feel if you wear these tights or pants then please have a long blouse or dress to cover yourself. It's also hard seeing these on women in public much less in church! Why is this so prevalent? How can that be comfortable?! I wonder how you all feel about worship music that doesn't have God mentioned or Jesus' name? Some of the music says just you in place if God's name. I find this really bothers me.

I’m a former Catholic, raised in the faith and attended a Catholic school all my life. I have recently (actually) come to Christ and I still struggle with this. Like that feeling of if I sin I lose my salvation and have to work for it. This was literally how I thought it worked up until two months ago. I struggle with the “Catholic guilt” as many do, as well. I feel like if I would have known that you are saved by faith through grace, I would have been saved a long time ago. The idea that you have to measure up to God’s standards to be saved is exhausting and I don’t know how people do that.

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. Start underinlyng everything God says about you in the Bible. Ephesians Chapter 1 & 2 are a treasure trove of good news. God bless you! I have been saved for 37 years and teaching the Bible and making disciples. So get into God's word and Jesus will set you free.

Even as a fitness professional who has taught at fitness conventions and been in videos, etc. I always have a long tank top or long shirt to cover that far or sweat shirt wrapped around my back side. I always make sure I have a high neck type of fitness top on so no cleavage shows. I even wear long sleeves a lot and also capris or long pants. Never shorts.
This wasn’t always the case. When I got born again, this was something I was delivered from that the LORD took away from me. But that was for me!!!
Same. But I currently only do CrossFit. I do leggings still, and lose fitting tanks, with the higher necks. I can’t say that I can cover my bum with extra clothes tho, because of the nature of CrossFit.

As a women, I’ve stopped wearing yoga-type pants around others as it doesn’t foster holiness for my brothers and sisters in Christ (thinking of others vs my own comfort). There’s a wonderful TGC article by Megan Hill called, “The Modesty Conversation We Need to Have” provides a biblical perspective…

I think we have to be careful though. Given the context of the rest of scripture I think his conclusion about you can eat whatever you want and you can observe whatever days you want is contrary to God's commandments. Jesus taught, if you love me keep my commandments. Plus numerous other scriptures which teach that rejecting God's Laws is a negative thing. Romans 14 is not exempting us from keeping those things God has commanded. It is referring to those things for which there is no commandment. For example the weekly Sabbath is expressly commanded. Roman 14 does not exempt someone from that commandment just because they are convicted in their own mind that they don't need to observe it. That is just making our own mind an idol that we choose to follow rather than God. Instead what Romans 14 is saying is that maybe I think July 7th is special for me. No where in scripture is July 7th commanded to be observed so I cannot require other Christians to observe July 7th as a special day.

I had a dream a couple weeks ago where I was walking and I looked down and realized that I was only wearing a shirt and opaque tights; I saw people walking but they didn’t seem to mind my appearance. Once I awakened and had time to process my dream, I realized that my attire was not suitable for a born again believer. I work from so my attire is very casual and I didn’t give it a second thought to wear my comfy wear outdoors and to run errands. I feel guilty of how my witness was tarnished by my appearance. I don't think Christ followers are going to be wearing things that they dont have a clear conscience about. We are all works in progress and He is very gracious and patient. A lot of women stuggle with shame in this area through no fault of their own- just objectification. So tldr be kind to your sisters, Mothers, nieces who are in Christ and pray for the Holy Spirit to convict and bring freedom.
When I was in the world secular music was a big part of my life and now that I’m saved, I have to wear headphones even walking through the grocery store because they always play music and I don’t want the songs to get stuck in my head (happens almost instantly). Music is the only thing that can hijack your subconscious mind without your permission so me personally, I have to stay far away from it. Great video pastor Mike! 🙏🏽
I second the issue with music. I was a producer/hip hop artist for most of my life so I've done shows in dark environments and made music with terrible lyrics, id even been given a major record deal opportunity and turned it down out of fear for my soul many years ago (before I was saved, I grew up in church still n also have seen the industry) I'd been heavy into all types of music since I was 9. I honestly don't listen to music at all at the stage I'm at rn. I don't even trust a lot of the Christian music because there are a lot of hypnotizing frequencies and repetition (which is meant to stay in your mind) and repetition is a brainwashing technique...now if id trusted the artists and it was old hymns its one thing, but most current artists I do not trust. I'm in a spot. Its fine, I just need some time away from it because for many years it was such a big part of my life and I know the ins and outs of some things, I need to be away from it for now. Music can soothe or destroy the mind, its just about finding what soothes it in a Biblically sound way that glorifies the creator, I'm glad that you found that. Hip hop/rock/r&b, etc are stumbling blocks to me currently and I've noticed a lot of worship music isn't worship at all but instead about selfish expectations of God. God bless.

I was working for a friend of mine who got signed to a record label and I thank God he got me out of that life before I got in too deep. You’re right about everything you said, the music industry is sooo deep and dark and not a game to play with. I started watching The Truth Behind Hip Hop by G. Craig Lewis and learning all that stuff about frequencies and it makes me that much more grateful that God rescued me from that world. You’re right about the Christian music too, I stopped listening to all music for over a year until God strengthened me and I still have a long way to go but glory to God for bringing me out of the world and into his kingdom! 🙏🏽
I'll have to ring in here. I was heavily involved as a traveling musician from a young age. When I was saved, I played in church praise bands, but I recognized that music greatly sways the moods of the audience and in many ways, I saw it as manipulating the listeners. If I hear a song or jingle earlier in the day, I find myself humming it constantly throughout the day, subconsciously.
I will not attend a church with a band, lights, smoke machine, or cameramen. To me, it has just become entertainment.
As someone who has grown up simply listening to melodic instrumental music(and still do since my impression of most modern music with lyrics, even wholesome lyrics, seems that it's often rather bland) I just want to add that, similar to those who once struggled with alcoholism, I totally understand wanting and even needing to be totally separated from such things.
The bible recognizes that wine can be a wonderful blessing, but for someone who had an addiction, it can trip a person up even at the sight of it.
In the same way, for someone who was immersed in the dark side of music, that now even music intended for godly worship can stir up memories and emotions tied to the godlessness that was associated with certain patterns and sounds used in that kind of music.
I just stopped by to encourage you in your walk with the Lord, and pray that some day, whether in this earthly body or in your glorified body, you will be able to fully enjoy the blessings of singing praises to our Lord and Father!
P.S. I have to agree that a lot of modern christian music seems to seek to emulate worldly trends and is also less focused on the glorification of God in exchange for the glorification of ourselves and our feelings/emotions about said God. Not to mention how bland some of the songs are musically and theologically. There's a golden nugget every once in awhile, but ye ol' trusty hymns are my go-to as well!
Music is emotional even worship music, however worship songs count as worship when you're in prayer and meditation. However when you are in deep prayer and praying alone, put on classical music or instrumental music. It helps me clear the cloud in my mind and focus on God.

I have to wear yoga pants or pajama pants because I can't stand the feel of anything else. And I only wear yoga pants out. If I'm at home, I'm always in pajama pants because of my sensory processing disorder (I'm autistic) and yoga pants are too uncomfortable to wear for long periods even though I get them a few sizes too big so they fit loosely.
But I don't really know what the difference is between yoga pants and dress pants other than the material. They look the same, unless you look closely (I only buy black ones that are 95% cotton). I've tried to wear sweat pants, but they are just too uncomfortable. I don't know what I would do without yoga pants.
(I can't wear skirts because I need sit cross legged. And as a teen, before yoga pants were a thing, I would wear pajama pants to church or out in public in general)

There's nothing modest about yoga pants. Men are responsible for their thoughts, women are responsible for wearing clothing that's very revealing, immodest and meant to draw attention to their body
I think I dress modestly, but I always wear yoga pants because I have sensory processing disorder (I'm autistic) and my options are yoga pants or pajama pants. I wear them loosely and wear all my other clothing loosely because I can't stand wearing anything tight. I have bought other pants before, but I can't make myself wear them. I need to be able to sit with my legs up, so my pants have to be stretchy. In my opinion, yoga pants are just like any other pants, but they are made of t-shirt material so they are soft to the touch. I look like I'm wearing baggy black pants and they're not revealing at all. But even if they were skin tight, I wear large clothes (I'm petite) and my shirts could pass for a short dress in length. Most people I know probably think I'm either a few sizes larger than my actual size or that I'm just a pile of bones draped in loose fitting clothes. Just because they're yoga pants doesn't mean they're immodest.

The closer we get to God, the stronger we become. I think there’s a place and dress code for everything. Let all we do be for the glory of | in reverence to God. Oh boy Ladies....when it comes to modesty on stage, that's a very important subject! As a worship leader myself, I have given this very serious and deep consideration. The number 1 important thing to remember is that when you are on stage, you are a leader. Not only to those who are on stage with you (also leading) but to those who are in the congregation and your job is to be a priest. You are essentially leading the congregation into the throne room of the Living God. Now have that perspective when you look at yourself in the mirror on Sunday morning. Not "what is the latest style" "does this outfit flatter my shape or make me look good among men (men and women)" NO! Think, I am about to lead people into Throne Room to worship my Savior and Heavenly Father with the aid of the Holy Spirit. Am I limiting that???? Ask it every time and let the Holy Spirit convict and guide from there.
You will also find that as you mature (as I have!) that it will effect how your dress the rest of the week. I wear yoga pants almost every single day but I will never lead in them nor will I wear ripped jeans (my own personal preference) because I am a child of God and I will dress in that royalty. And that modesty is not only your outward appearance but much more importantly your inward heart position which will effect what is seen on the outside.
Ladies, please allow the Holy Spirit to guide in as you choose your outfits, but much more importantly, get in the Word so that your heart changes to be more sensitive to His Will in your life. Shalom, my fellow sisters in Christ 💓

i had the very humbling experience of having to surrender my conscience to the lord and accept the way i thought was wrong. the devil had gotten such a grip of fear on me that i became paralyzed over everything. it came to the point were i could not even accept grace. allow god to change and strengthen your conscience because if it stays week to an extreme the devil will pounce

Wonderful teaching. The church I attended for many years before retiring and moving had a ministry for addicts of various kinds. Living the 'law of love' was essential for helping brothers and sisters in their walk.
@@stevej71393 Yes. We had two very good organizers that had started out in AA but were later certificated in the more Christ-centered version of Celebrate Recovery.
I agree regarding the recovery principles being applicable to general church programs. After all, when AA and the step programs were started, they took the patterns from Biblical discipling and applied them to helping addicts.
The truth is that Christ's church here on earth is not meant to be run like a palace for the righteous, because none of us are in ourselves; we are all dealing with something no matter how long we've walked with the Lord. Real righteousness comes only by trusting in the merit of the blood of Jesus the Righteous One.
The church community has instead been meant to be a home for rehabilitation for those who admit they are broken, oppressed, and lost. "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
Even that church where I attended initially met some resistance from long time members interacting with people struggling through their issues. A few parishioners weren't ready for it and went elsewhere. But the pastor pressed on and continues to this day supporting the work. That work has actually been a blessing, with a lot of members learning to come clean about their problems and seeking pastoral help. Transparency and the humility to seek help are good things.
(Reminds me a bit of Pastor Chuck opening his congregation to the Jesus People, losing some of the old timers but receiving the Lord's blessing of increase.)
Anyway, in this country addiction is a scourge everywhere. The gospel and power of Jesus is what people need. I hope more local congregations reach out to meet that need.

To Question 15 about feeling emotional over Jesus sacrifice:
It's great that you're asking this question!
Too many people would just assume their own experience thus far is the benchmark of how to experience God.
What Mike said is absolutely right, in that some people are just emotional and others aren't, however that doesn't mean that you can't experience that regardless of how emotionless you may be in daily life.
It may be that it just hasn't fully sunk in, or that because it's not new information, it doesn't hit you the same as if it was fresh.
I'm sure we all experience thinking of a loved one who has passed, but without breaking down, not because it isn't sad, but because it happened a long time ago.
And this can easily happen with how we feel about the bible.
Particularly if we've grown up knowing the stories.
There's not necessarily one single point where we've been faced with that fact.
None of that is to say you can't though, and if that sense of personal connection is something that you want, ask God for it!
Persevere in prayer about it, and seek greater understanding in the Bible.
I'd strongly recommend reading John chapters 17 through 18 together in context.
See how personal Jesus care for his disciples is, and also for us, in his prayer.
Then see the context in which that is prayed, and how even as he willingly gives himself up to be killed, his concern is for his friends, and that they not be harmed.
The key thing is to ask God to soften your heart on this matter, and to give you a greater understanding and appreciation for what Jesus did for you, and to know it in a way that goes beyond simple knowledge.
Don't try and summon it up yourself, rely on Him.
And be patient.

1:16:20 In regards to Q15…thank you for your response. This is something I believe that after nearly 17 years of being a Christian is actually being revealed to me too. Through my entire walk with God, I know what He’s done in my life and how he’s changed me but I can only ever explain that for me it’s always felt like something was missing. Has a child I was abused by my brother and I constantly think I am not good enough or worthy enough to be loved by God. Now, I know none of us are good enough or worthy, but it has somehow scarred my walk with the Lord.
I have however, recently come to the conclusion that I just haven’t fully grasped Gods grace and the work of the cross and what Jesus has done for me.
I pray God will really help me with this because I’m so frustrated and actually hate how I feel because I WANT TO KNOW how much of a sinner I am and how much Gods grace is so when I think of what Jesus did, I am genuinely in my heart thankful and not just recognise it as head knowledge.
So confusing, please pray for me 🙏🏻

And I'd just encourage you to keep praying about that, and ask God to reveal things to you, if perhaps there's something you're not fully grasping yet.
Above all, spend time with Him, and in the Word.
My prayer is that as you continue faithfully in this, God will give you a deeper understanding and experience of his love for you.
That you'd come to know with certainty just how much He loves you, and than your past experiences, or your own failures, are so small in comparison, and that nothing can ever take you away from the love we have in Jesus.

For question 19: one thing I’ve found in my own life is evaluating how my heart is affected. For example, if I’m watching a show or movie where two characters are not married but it’s leading to them having sex and I find myself ROOTING for that outcome.. I can feel that I want that to happen.. then I need to stop. I first noticed this when I was watching glee and I found myself rooting for the gay couple and I realized - oh wow. This is turning my heart to something God doesn’t approve of.
Another thing for me is looking at how things are portrayed. If there is an affair in the movie - is it considered a good thing or does it have horrible consequences? Because if I’m supposed to be rooting for it (LOOKING AT YOU NICHOLAS SPARKS) then I can’t support it. But if it’s part of a bigger story and it’s not glorified or applauded… might be okay. There’s all kinds of awful things that happen in scripture that aren’t “appropriate,” but they are shown for what they are and the effects of that evil become apparent. It’s not GOOD that Abraham lied and passed his wife off to another man… but we wouldn’t stop reading the Bible because of it. So if something bad happens in a movie but it’s portrayed as bad.. then okay. Hope that makes sense.
For true stories or documentaries - what are they trying to say? What do they want me to believe? Is it biblical? Do I feel my heart being swayed to something unbiblical because of beautiful cinematography and acting? Because of the music?
Oh another thing.. laugh tracks. If a show has laugh tracks, pay attention to the reaction they WANT you to have to each joke or scenario. Because if you have a different conviction, you get the sense that EVERYONE in the world disagrees with you. So you’re being programmed to believe whatever the current cultural narrative is by a false peer pressure.
All that said - know the Bible and if you feel your heart drifting to something other than what God says is good.. Let it go.
A solid discussion though, is how factually pornographic most sexual scenes in shows are now. NO Christian’s should be participating in those shows. Just because the FCC has dramatically changed how they approve content for TV, does not magically make it not pornographic. Way too many Christian women watch disgusting “romance” shows in the evenings. Its just their version of porn, and they think it’s fine just because it’s not found on porn hub. Also noteworthy, is smut books, with the same content for women.
But what makes something sin for you? Yes The Bible is extremely clear about what sexual sins are, It's also quite clear about the Consequences of choosing such courses in life.
But if your faith Indicates that you are free from the consequences of those sins because you're already saved, Why bother yourself with concern?

Thank you for your response to question 18. As a person who is in an extreme situation, I have had the LOVE chapter thrown at me and twisted by my husband who claims to be a Christian. Even others (especially his family who also claim to be Christian) have used parts of that chapter and others to convince me to overlook the abuse and infidelity and keep living with him. Thankfully, God allowed a way for me to escape him even though I’m still dealing with post separation abuse. Having children with him makes it even harder, not only on me but also on the kids.
I don’t fully understand what all the verses mean either, but I do know that they are not a burden for me to force me to lay aside proper judgement and wisdom if I truly do love someone. That contradicts so many other parts of scripture.

I’m thankful for question sixteen. I’m really bad at reading and studying these days, but I listen all the time. I feel a certain amount of guilt because my bibles pretty much live on my closet shelf now. I do read from apps in small portions to check what people say or to obey my teachers (like you, Mike) when they suggest chapter readings from time to time. Your answer was timely and made me feel better.

I was a believer all my life & am 64 yrs old now. .. It didn’t HIT ME PERSONALLY tho on what Christ actually DID for us until about 2015. .. But when I did .. I cried hard.

Praying for you brother. Last year I went through covid and I personally felt it affected my brain, I felt very foggy for months. God’s grace is enough.
My best guess regarding what it means that love believes all things is that love believes all true things. So if I’m dealing through a disagreement with someone, I need to love that person by believing that what they say is true or trustworthy, or believing the best of them. Sometimes we can share what our real motives and thoughts were behind our actions and people can be convinced that you are lying and not believe what is true. I think trust and believing is vital in loving relationships (including our relationship with God and what He says about Himself to us. We must believe what He says is true.) When it is absolutely clear that someone is being dishonest then that doesn’t fall into this Bible verse.
Susan, encountering your comments over several months in various places is refreshing. Not argumentative, you are reasonable, relatable and have a stable and solid understanding. Keep it up. 🙂

Thank you Pastor Winger for this session of Q&A. Many of the Q you covered happens to be things I either have pondered to formula a good answer, so you have given me some things to continue to consider and continue to fine tuned my own answers.

On your first question, about yoga pants wearing. I completely agree that they aren’t appropriate normal attire for females, but even more so near the pulpit during corporate worship. That’s a place to be extra modest, and direct ALL attention off of ourselves and onto God.
But with that said, I do CrossFit. The workout requires certain clothing for the functional purpose of the very high impact, fast paced, up down constant movements. So for this, I do need to wear abnormally clingy clothing such as these leggings. But I would never wear shorts there because of the often compromising movements, nor would I ever wear tank tops that showed any cleavage. My tops are loose and higher collared, because I don’t want any physical attention from anyone but my husband.
Now I did have 1 time last year, where my church had an evening event with a guest speaker. I’m a full time mom and homeschool, and I have my gym time, and my sons athletics as well. So for that event I was faced with the choice, attend the evening event without time to shower and change clothes, or stay home completely because I didn’t have the spare time to go prepared myself into church attire. I opted to just go as I am, my son and I sat in the back row, and no one even noticed us until the event was over.
So while my leggings were not ideal, or preferred, sometimes life happens and you need to decide what’s more important. And it would have grieved me if a church congregant told me later, that I shouldn’t have gone in those clothes, because I tried to move mountains that day just to attend at all. And worked really hard to make it work. So if I was told that, and insinuated that I was a sort of harlot… it would grieve me. And I think I wouldn’t really feel welcome there overall, for them being so quick to cast a judgment on me, without even learning how hard it was for me to make it there at all.
I call BS. Women always use the excuse of having to wear tight clothes in order to workout. Why is it ok for men to wear loose shorts or sweat pants to workout? But women feel they have to wear super tight clothes to the gym?

Many of these questions can only be answered through the Spirit. Too many evangelicals are looking for laws in the Bible to guide our decisions. Yet, even a cursory reading of the scripture, shows we are to walk and make decisions in the Spirit. Once we begin to live in the Spirit, the answers become quite clear.
Such a great answer to Question 7. Mike I pray that the Lord will completely restore you to help. That being said, your propensity to over work, may need a "thorn in the flesh" to keep you in check??? Thank you, my brother, for sharing your wisdom and insight into God's Word!
Mike, I always appreciate your attempts to be fair-minded and biblically faithful. First, let's be real here; what most women are wearing in public are just spandex leggings, not real yoga pants. This topic really is not that complicated. My 94 year old grandfather said it best recently. He quipped "Women would go naked if we (society) let them." He said this in front of my 91 year old grandmother, who nodded in agreement. I've never met a man who couldn't admit that yoga pants are provocative. Modesty is something sorely lacking in most American women, even in the church. Ladies, if you love your brothers in Christ, kindly help us out by exhibiting modesty and class.

Hello, as a woman worship leader, thank you for touching on this bible passage. I was thinking the same as you but it is nice to see it line up in scriptures. When it comes to modesty, I simply try to be spirit led. People have so many different opinions on what is good and what is not, I would never make everyone happy. What I do, is respect dress codes for stage that have been set by the elders and dress according to my spirit. I will also have my husband weigh in on things and if its questionable for me I will lean away.

I agree with comments about skin tight clothes being inherently immodest. To be completely honest I have only read some examples of what was considered modest in the earliest churches, but it seems skin tight clothes and shear clothing was considered immodest consistently. I also thinking trying to create arguments for why it should be allowed today can bring up issues with God's impartiality and create a cause to be considered with other discussions about what is or should be permissible.
I think it's a pretty easy standard - if you're wearing clothes that draw attention to your body then it's not modest. We're called to not love the world or the world's culture. This goes for men and women, but it affects women more because a lot of their clothes are designed to draw attention to their tops & bottoms.

I used to dress immodestly, and then I felt convicted. I now only wear modest dresses and skirts. I feel more feminine, confident, and covered. My husband prefers this style as well, and I am happy to honor him by dressing in a way he also prefers.

Thank you Mike. There’s always something from these Q&As that helps me. Today that was Q15. I’m very emotionally flat and my lack of emotion towards God has made me feel really downcast at times. I’ve felt that I mustn’t be saved or born again and that I do not love God. The truth is I unfortunately don’t really have feelings for anyone - I did not even cry or get sad when my grandparents died. I wish I weren’t like this as it would help me to not doubt the sincerity of my faith all the time.

@@lamingtonw After hearing a brother teach from the scriptures at a men's group, an understanding came to me later that night about the weight of sin which Jesus carried. This did not come about by me working up emotions. But, like Mike mentioned, the understanding brought about emotion. It seems that what I had heard taught was later used by the Lord to make things sink into my heart.
I encourage you to continue in Biblically meditating on scripture and sound teaching. Wait(expect) on God to give understanding.

I don’t think you need to be emotional in any sense, on any topic. The question really isn’t about your emotions and feelings. With your faith, and belief in God, and trust in Him, that will look VERY different for everyone. Emotional people will be emotional about their religion. More logic brained people will be more logic brained about their religion. So you can be unemotional about your faith friend!!
As long as you do fully believe and trust in God, and Jesus Christ’s work on the cross, and His penal substitutionary atonement for you and all your sins. And then of course repent, and keep with repentance. Then you learn more of God, and scripture, and grow in the faith, into maturity and spiritual wisdom, bit by bit every year. That’s what it should look like for any Christian!
This process has absolutely zero dependence on emotionality, and in many ways it can be a blessing to be more logic brained. It can give you the ability to have better discernment, because you aren’t as clouded by emotions as the average person. God made you exactly the way you are for His Glory, and He wants you to take any gifts you have and put them to work for Him and the Body.
You are not defective, or a lesser in any way! You are just you, and that’s ok. You can do great things in Christ’s name, as soon as you stop comparing yourself to other people. 🙏🏽♥️

I really love the q & a part of these videos. I learn so much. I thought a bit about the Love believes all things and endures all things. It's very sad when an abuser uses these words to try to validate their bad actions. Then the other person thinks the same wrong thought . I think endures means lasts in this instance. I also imagine the presence of a baby or my father on his deathbed from alzheimers. He couldnt speak, could barely move yet he reached my hand and would pat it, attempting to give Me comfort. His love endured until the end. So while these words apply to daily life and relationships I think it's much deeper . I thought about how the love filled the room the first time I brought my son, 5 days old, to meet his grandparents. His presence stirred all those things, especially our hope , joy, the love that is generated from within first from Christ's love and mercy . So I think beleives all things is more about the internal optimistic outlook which mirrors the promise of Christs love for us which we become aware of when we love others. I kind of rambled and I apologize for that.!

Hey Mike thanks for your ministry, I love how you open yourself up to answering people’s questions. My understanding of Jesus needing to be divine is that a perfect human could save the life of another human, but not multiple humans, but if he was also God, that would enable him to save everyone. That may have been Grudem’s point .. also for the mushroom/drug question, it’s worth noting that after the fall, there were many fundamental changes in plants and animals (animals can’t talk, snakes crawl, there’s weeds where there used to be food), so it shouldn’t surprise us if that was the case with drugs. Just some thoughts, thanks again!

I take modesty seriously and I always do my best to be modest. But I disagree with assigning a “dress code” to women.
That’s essentially what the Pharisees did. They created laws on top of the already existing laws to ensure that people couldn’t break the law. They became legalistic and following the “rules” became a compulsion instead of an honor.
The Holy Spirit should be the judge. He will let you know when you are in error. It should not even be a "Dress Code". I believe a person knows when they have crossed the line.

I used to ask my husband all the time if a certain piece of clothing was immodest and usually he would reply "you could be wearing a potato sack and if a man wants to lust he will. You look beautiful not overtly sexual don't worry. I'd let you know if you looked inappropriate." Totally changed my view of myself and I stopped being so scared of just my existence causing men to sin.
This was so fun and HELPFUL. These are the kinds of passing thoughts and even serious concerns I have. This is the type of counsil and thought sharing I LOVE to see. Ask questions people! Then seek counsil and answers in sound doctine based on the Word. His Word is sufficient .

I really appreciate the answer to 15. Im not an inherently emotive person, and rarely, if ever, break down and cry over anything, good or bad. So hearing that if this is my reaction in day to day life, then not having some over the top breakdown for what Jesus did for us isnt something I need to be ashamed of or concerned about. Obviously I recognize what a big deal it is, and it gets me quite emotional relatively to "normal" for me, but a lot of times Ive been called a false believer for not having a crazy, outward emotional breakdown. Thanks for being helpful!
Saved is an absolute state, while faith evolves and deepens through out our life.
The Apostles were saved when they accepted and followed Jesus, but their faith deepened after Pentecost.
I personally do not think if you are wearing yoga pants and a long shirt that it's wrong. I personally do not feel convicted of that. Especially, since I have nerve damage and cannot wear regular paints or have anything that squeezes my nerves in my hips and back. If I'm doing everything in my power to be modest and healthy for me, and someone still lusts, That is not my responsibility. I do not have control over someone else's sin-not if I'm biblically doing what I need to do.
To an extent, sure, but at the same time Galatians 6 would argue that you should be striving to help those dealing with sin to get out of it, even if that means changing up your wardrobe a little bit.
We are supposed to encourage one another and carry each others burdens, not kick them to the curb and go “that’s a you problem so you have to fix it”. We are 1 body, if one part is struggling, the entire body suffers.
Everything you mentioned is true. Everyone has a duty to themselves and to others. Yet, if someone like me struggles to change their attire due to chronic pain but still strives to think of others, it becomes irrelevant. Although it's essential to support one another, I maintain my stance: if I'm doing my best for others, at the end of the day every believer needs to be taking their struggles and sin to the Lord. They are responsible for their own well-being.

I'm in agreement with Pastor Mike's views on the clothing (yoga pants, bikinis, skinny jeans, etc). Leggings are not pants. Yoga pants are not pants. Skinny jeans are like a second skin. As a woman, I don't want a man seeing every curve on areas that would only be seen by my husband. Wouldn't surprise me if soon pantyhose became the next leggings. 🤦🏻♀️

I used to watch a lot of things that were not good during my walk with Christ. I was rebaptised a year or two ago (when I actually understood what it meant) and was convicted of things I hadn't been previously.
I ALWAYS watched Ghost Adventures, it was my favorite show from a young age to the point where my friend and I had a ghost hunting club in the 2nd grade. I watched it throughout high school and dreamed of getting the equipment to talk to spirits.
After reading the bible and trying to biblically discern if this was okay or not I clearly learned that it was not okay for me to do, and I had previously denounced new age practices I had been involved in (tarot, astrology, trying to astral project, crystals, etc.)
Jesus is so much more important than all of those things and I ditched them immediately. It's led me to be more discerning about what I take in and if it is honoring of Jesus, and honoring of my new life in Christ.
There is a lot to be enjoyed in God's creation anyways - if you don't know what to watch, marvel at a sunset 😊

@@chosensoldier Thank you for commenting! Baptism can be controversial, I understand your wanting to make sure people are being biblical about what they do. However I would caution you at making inflammatory comments and maybe personally reaching out to the person to see why they did what they did and helping them discern from there would be better.
I decided to be rebaptized because I was very young when I was baptized initially, and questioned the legitimacy of it. I didn't have a deep understanding of baptism or what it stood for so I decided to be baptized again.
You are certainly not required to be rebaptized, but if you are originally baptized into something false (Mormonism, if they even do that, Jehovah's witness, etc.) Then I do think rebaptism is warranted because you weren't baptized in the name of Jesus. I would say the same for children who are too young or too immature to understand exactly what it means.
When I was LDS I “bore my testimony” many times as I was taught to, even though I didn’t believe in the church. I was just going through the motions and doing what I was taught to do.
Ladies this is simple. Would you seriously wear that in front of Jesus? Seriously! Think about it before you answer that. Ladies we KNOW exactly WHY we wear what we wear!

Two 'principles' that can guide us in the matter of dress/attire: 1) 1st century had no 'worship leaders' so it is our generation who has chosen to put singers & musicians before the rest of the congregation. In that position we ought to hold them to a higher standard - not quite the vetting of an elder but still responsible to consider their example in dress and in conduct before others . . . one of the reasons not to put any 'unseasoned' believer into any visible role (no matter how amazing his/her musical skill!); 2) there are other ways of 'dress' that can distract from the worship/praise/message, e.g. displays of wealth such as jewelry, furs, designer clothing, etc. on any who preach, teach ('prophesy'), lead prayer, lead singing. 'Immodest dress' is not just the sexual distraction but would, I believe, fall into the chastising by Paul toward the 'haves' of Corinth who did not consider in love, their 'have not' brothers and sisters. (1 Cor 11:17-34)
I’m not even trying to be funny but if ripped jeans and kneecaps make you stumble , you have a much larger issue going on that has nothing to do with other people.
The thing is that most most ripped jeans aren’t just ripped at the kneecap, they’re ripped the entire way down the front to an extent. They can be way more revealing than just “kneecaps”
Well, look at it from this angle: what about people that are being delivered from a $3x or p0rn addiction? Clearly they are easily swayed, but doing everything within their power sometimes isn't enough. That's exactly why these scriptures are talking about not allowing your neighbor to stumble or fall. No Christian is perfect, so really this is the best defense we have to combat lust in the church.
