I recently just purchased a blue princess cut diamond 1 carat SI2 from JTV and I love it! Diamonds are so fascinating ! I’m happy that they can come in all colors
What a fabulous and timely episode. I've always wanted to learn more about how they grow diamonds. Preston and Rebecca did a great job of letting us know. Would love to purchase a glow ball.
That was a fabulous episode! I had no idea there was so much waste and possible inclusions that are generated in lab grown diamonds! It's a much different process than I imagined! I know with mined diamonds it takes so much heat and pressure and time, to make a diamond in the earth, and the possibility of inclusion can be much higher when they are forming in the earth, but I had no idea that you could get inclusions like that, where they can be loupe visible in a lab grown diamond! What a fascinating process! And those glow balls are just the coolest! I really do hope that they or someone can find a use for all the waste from this process. I mean if I was understanding correctly, then it has the hardness of diamond, just not the optical quality of diamond so there has to be a use for it somewhere! Right!?! That would be a cool episode, where everybody send in your thoughts and ideas for uses and test them out! Who knows, someone may actually have the perfect use for this stuff! Thank you Preston for the education and enlightenment! And you too Rebecca! Great show! ❤

@@Elizabeth912-v6o I am finishing up my college degree, and then I am moving to Thailand to go to the school as it is the cheapest tuition (about $16,888) and that is for the graduate gemologist degree.
I wonder about all of the tests they have done with the waste and failed material. Like. Is it just straight up carbon. What happens if you reheat it. Or if you use a similar pressure as wit the hpht?
I would love to get some of those glow ball structures. I think those would look amazing set in resin as a necklace or if they're small enough, a pair of earrings.
So they want to know what to do with the black sand from the fails. The first thing is to publish what is, I mean is it very dense graphite or has it transformed at all there is a lot one could do with ultra dense graphite alone.
Very close in hardness and actually tougher because there are no distinct cleavage planes that they can shatter at. Used CVD grown PCD for heat spreaders on high power laser diodes.❤
Okay so poly crystal diamond just mill it down and sell as an abrasive. As far as the glow balls collectors may or maybe powder them and use as thermal interface material if the properties are good.
When I sold diamonds 30+ years ago, part of my sales presentation was that the diamond was billions of years old from deep in the Earth. They were buying something rare, very special. The problem was a nice size, beautiful stone comes with a price. Most folks can’t afford the diamond they really want and have to compromise on the four “C’s”. Now with lab grown diamonds, you can own a genuine diamond in any size or shape you want. The lab grown diamond is grown from a diamond seed from South Africa. Under pressure that duplicates what happens in the earth over billions of years, a rough stone emerges and is the evaluated and cut to produce the finished diamond. They can have imperfections because they are a diamond…..100%. I’m sold on lab grown diamonds.
I'm willing to bet that if you stepped on a glow-ball in the middle of the night, it would hurt waaaaaaaay more than stepping on a Lego block and it would not only pierce skin but would also imbed, like a splinter. Ouch! But on a more serious note, I've seen and heard from a many industry experts, including multiple shopping channels, that the science behind why and how all colored diamonds form is well established, except for pinks, yet I see lab grown pinks. Is that just to build intrigue and interest? Also, I'd love to see an addendum to this clip mentioning that CVD isn't necessarily the only step; some CVD diamonds additionally undergo HPHT to brighten and whiten. Thanks!
The worldest largest white with pink opalized fossilized tree trunk has been high jacked..im sooooo upset as i wanted u guys to see it and wanted it to go to a museum for all to see and enjoy..the skin on the tree was still deep ridged as was christen shape and was white with pink band..if u hear anything about this tree peace as it was 6ft by 6ft by 6ft get it and put it in museum and let me know who had it and ill take care of them in court
It’s not as simple as you think. One of the biggest clues is that lab grown diamonds are type iia diamonds which are almost entirely devoid of impurities. Only 1-2% of mined diamonds are type iia.

Millions of tears of the right conditions..produce natural diamonds…that’s why HPHT are on average HALF of what a natural diamond coasts of same size and quality…you will never mimic that to the extent it will matter..lab grown are not real natural diamonds period.
Yes you are correct structurally. Yet your missing the whole Mother Earth and her place in the formation. IMO it in the eye of the beholder, and for me, that happens to be natural, preferably in the matrix

The diamond waste would make great aquarium gravel!
Actually interesting thought! It's still graphite carbon so it still retains properties of carbon for "bioactive" use? What about soil enrichment?
@@karenlee3198 I doubt diamond would be bio available due to its density and chemical resistance.

Market the 'glow balls'! This was soooooo cool. Thanks. And congrats to Preston for losing the ponytail look... short looks great.
Yea, my first thought was: I want one of those! ;-)
I was thinking the same thing. Set them in resin and use them in jewelry. They would look amazing!
Especially if they polish the black off they could sell it as a snowflake
May i know whats the rectangular shape diamond called? Is it called emerald cut?
The diamond coral would be amazing in miniature 1:12 or 1:24 scale models.

Please note Rebecca is keeping it classy and flashing her natural diamonds or at least some of them on this episode!!!!!

I want to buy some of the poly-diamonds and glow balls.
I think when people say they are fake, is because they are manufactured. Part of the whimsy of a gem is its nature.
Unfortunately you are incorrect. A gem is determined by it’s chemical properties not by its origin… ❤
