Coordination with each other and the backing track(s) is through their in ear monitors. Each band member has a custom mix in their in-ears including a clic track which keeps everyone in time with each other and the backing tracks. There is a Gear Gods Nightwish video where the 2015 stage setup is shown off by the band tech team.

They don't all have click tracks, just Kai and maybe Tuomas unless I'm remembering completely wrong. I imagine it could be more distracting than helpful for most of them, they can keep time well enough with the drums and bass.

Computers keep the backing tracks, pyro and display screen in sync. I think only the drummer listens to the click track and keeps the beat for the rest of the band. Tuomas creates the magic and works with the London Philharmonic and choirs for the album and backing tracks. After he creates the songs for the new album, he presents them to the band and together they create the finished album. 😊🤘

I think Nightwish started collaboration with an orchestra on their album Once. I love the combination.

no, Floor does no headbanging but Dutch windmilling. I love it how Troy adds sound with his Irish bouzouki (4 double strings if I describe it correctly).

Floor does 3 types... Straight up headbanging (see mid of Dark Chest of Wonders), wind milling (see Romanticide), and well as the other types of hair 'throwing' (see end of Ghost Love Score)

It think Nightwish tunes to D standard. Floor is very comfortable singing in D. How did that sound in those great in ears? The drummer has a click track in his in ears which syncs up with the backing tracks. The drummer has to be perfect to pull it off. Like a mandolin. It is actually called a bouzouki. In these earlier live videos they were attempting to work Troy into the band. He did not play on many of these early songs. Live you hear the orchestra a little louder. It is difficult to capture the huge sound of Nightwish on a live recording. Nightwish may be doing a live show or tour with orchestra in 2026 to celebrate their 30th anniversary.

This is a very powerful live performance. Troy's playing Irish Bouzouki (cousin of mandolin).
The Wolf and the Dog are Floor's spiritual Animals. She has them tattooed behind her ears. I saw them in the morning. 😵‍💫😂👍

Troy is playing an Irish bosouki, I believe. Yeah, I love the song, but he does get drowned a bit. You can hear him clearly at the start and in the breakdown bit when the horses appear on the screen.
I'm curious to listen to the studio version. (I'm quite new to Nightwish myself. Fan for about a year or so.) Usually with Nightwish live performances are considered better, and I think that is true as far as energy and vocalists are concerned, but you can often hear the various layers clearer in the studio versions.

You would probably like Therion's Live in Miskolc concert, one of the rare times Therion has had a full orchestra behind them. Highly recommended. They did half the show with selections from Mozart, Dvorak, Wagner, Verdi, and Saint Saens and the other half was their original material. As for Nightwish, there are of course many different FOH qualites through their many concerts. Usually it is pretty consistent for a band like Nightwish. But through the years, sometimes the symphonic elements have stood out better than in other shows. Until they finally do some shows with a full orchestra, the album versions of Nightwish songs are where you'll hear the true intention for the music. Definitely worth listening on your own to album versions of the songs you've already done reactions to, so you won't spoil the songs for your videos. 🔥🤘🔥

Troy is using (but not only) custom made instruments from the English Fylde Guitars, like the Bouzouki and the guitar used in the acoustic version of the Nightwish song "How's the Heart"

This is my No 3 Nightwish song after The Poet and the Pendulum and Song of Myself.
It is also one of Floor's personal favourites and hence is still on the setlists.
This is a song in which it is clear that Marco often takes the lead. Everyone talks about Floor (or one of the previous leads) without realising that the lead line is frequently switching to Marco - in many songs, not just this one.
I love Emppu's tasteful solo, the high energy of the song, the interplay of vocals, Floors silent Howl near the end, the modulations - everything about this.
Troy is playing Irish Bazouki not a mandolin.
Personally my classical preferences fall mainly into the Romantic era, though I have a large collection from early music to 20th century (largely excluding atonal).
Strangely, you may think, I'm not a great fan of Mozart and those who call Tuomas the Metal Mozart are underselling him IMO. I think of him as the Metal Mahler - as a classical musician you will know Mahler said his music contains the world and everything in it. I feel Tuomas is on the same scale, though he incorporates the universe not just the world.
    Edit: Nightwish with live orchestra...
Nightwish toursvare expensive to run. Look at the stage setup, pyro, quality of sound etc.
Then take into account the scale of their tours - this show is from the EFMB tour and had 252 performances over the period April 2015 to October 2016.
Can you imagine the cost, let alone the logistics, of touring a full orchestra for 18 months at 152 venues, even if there were an orchestra that could commit to it?
The occasional show may be possible but then it would need to be an orchestra used to playing with a rock/metal band. Although orchestras are extremely skilled (more so than most rock musicians IMO) it would probably have to be the orchestra who played the original soundtrack, as the sort of rehearsal times an orchestra gets are unlikely to be available to a new orchestra and would increase costs even more.
Then there are the other sections. This album also used The Metro Voices choir, London's Young Musicians Children's Choir and the Orchestre De Grandeur so more cost.

You may want to look at your sound levels. The music volume is very low and your voice is very loud. But, great reaction.
PS: Marko is a god. ❤

If I were to choose symphonic metal bands, I would start with the father of the genre, Therion (Christofer uses more real operatic vocals mixed with metal vocals - there are many singers and choirs). Therion has 3 performances with orchestra.
Another band would be Haggard (medieval style) who perform live with real orchestra instruments.
The third is After Forever for the first 2 albums and the last one. Of course Floor was already in this one.
Nightwish is the 4º band and always with Floor.
Visions of Atlantis' first album is incredible, but it faithfully imitates Nightwish.
