What a great idea for a video series. Showing us different combos and techniques to create a variety of cool effects for a show. We can all just light stuff off randomly already, but we could all use a little help with the “artistry” of a show. Looking forward to it...

Those prices are though, cakes seem nice tho, there’s definitely other stores with amazing cakes at half those prices, even if you’re not interested in whole sale. 500 bucks can go a long way at certain great stores.
Hey Joel, Serious question. I've been watching your videos for years and this year I finally am doing my own hand lighting show for the 4th. Is there any product that you would particular recommend or any tips you could offer me? Thanks in advance.
That really depends on what you have access to and your budget. In general, I would recommend cakes over shells or other items if you are hand firing. I personally like to prep all of the cakes by positioning the cakes with the fuse facing the same direction but spaced apart, so you can light one cake, walk a safe distance to the next and continue the trend for the show. If you have the space and budget, you can mirror the same setup (or different product) which would allow two positions to fire at the same time, or at least stagger firing to make it safer.
Sorry, I do not have a lot of experience with firework stores in Tennessee. I know there are a fair amount of places though. I'd recommend reaching out to some of the communities online to see if anyone has any suggestions. Pyro Universe on Facebook might be a good place to inquire.
I shop everything and it depends on the purpose of the trip. If it's for general content, I'll go retail and record it for the people that want to see it. If it's for my show or someone else, I normally go wholesale. Wholesale "shopping" doesn't make good content though.
I have a hard time looking at retail pricing on fireworks. People always ask how can you afford a show like i put in each year. They go to the local store and pay 50 dollars and up for cakes... people buy WHOLESALE. Save yourself a ton of money.
Absolutely! A lot of times when I hear someone spending a lot of money from places like Phantom, it's simply that they don't have access to other places or they have a small budget to begin with. That's the best thing about the online communities that allow you to setup group guys and break out cases etc even if you have a low budget. However, even places like Pyro U on Facebook can be very toxic for new comers trying to get in on that action.
