You give off the vibe of an uncle at a party that talks to everyone about nerdy stuff using terms that no one understands and somehow slides a sex joke in the middle of it
This went off the rails quick! LOVE IT! Appreciate the shout out and you should REALLY hold on to that thing. I have not seen one ANYWHERE, and info on them (as you said) is rare. The PE line is the "Professional Entertainer" line and was a marketing ploy (similar to what EV did with the RE-20 vs PL-20). so theres a lot of crossover between the PE and SM, SH, ### lines, the closest thing would maybe be the prologue 10L (low imp.) or 10H (high imp.). Shure did the same wonky impedance thing with the 545 which is just an impedance switchable 57... same capsule, VERY similar sound. So the PE line was dolled up (awesome red n black) where the prologue was silver and black (again similar to the 545 vs 57). Coolest thing about the PE10D (D = dual impedance) is that to change impedance, you just have to flip the switch the other way! (the 545 you have to take the xlr connector out and swap a cable in there... pain in the arse). That's one of those mics that you just flop over to high-z and get a xlr to TS cable and run it thru some crazy guitar pedals for some cool effects live. Thats a great find. Hold on to that thing!
I felt like I just watched the MEI studio opening to this mic lol. I love it. One day im gonna pop up out of the shadows of an MEI video and just scare the shit out of your viewers who are hanging onto every informative word you speak lol.
Shure went through some interesting methods of flexibility, when it came to one-mic-fits-all impedance matching. First, you selected low or high impedance and had to literally solder the correct color wire to XLR Pin 2. When new revisions or models came out, they eventually simplified the process with a quick disconnect system or jumpers. Finally, the decision to release a separate low and high impedance version of the same model mics. Talk about confusing! They even had different series names for the same mic to be used in different applications (Unidyne III 545SD vs PE54).
@@meistudiony Yeah, I have some interesting discussions with some team members at Shure, regarding these variety of choices and differences between models. I encouraged them to continue offering these details as historical value, especially when models become discontinued or obsolete.
That's a very classy looking 1970s McDonalds counter mic. Just mount it on a flex-stand. Can I get a double Quarter Pounter, large fries, and 20 McNuggets? Oh and a super-size Diet Coke. (Watching my weight, ya know.) Honestly, not a bad way to spend $50. I'd be curious to hear this A/B against a regular silver Unidyne B 515. What does that "PE" get me besides a sweeeet red Shure logo? Why not SM58 test?
The PE10D and the Unidyne-B 515SD both share the same exact mic capsule (R15). So, yeah. Oh, and btw, the 'PE' stands for "Professional Entertainer", according to Shure.
Great articulation. Warms up a bit with proximity. The mic, that is. Not so sure about the banter or the loud 1K test tone. I always hated mic with switches when I was running live sound years ago. The talent would invariably turn the mic off, then I'd raise the gain and that's when they'd turn the switch back on and FEEEEEEEDDDDDBAAAAAAACK!
Love the hilarious jokes in this one - feel like you upped the quality in that regard, lol! As for the mic - it sounds good, there's nothing spectacular about it, but I'd be happy to listen to a long-form content with that audio quality. I love the look though!
Obviously, Shure is a behemoth in the industry and i feel like there were applications that existed that maybe don't now (at least where some kind of "quality" was wanted) might count for a lot of the lesser known Shure mics. Seems like the time "off" gave you some pent-up silly energy and im here for it.
@@ObscureMics I was also just thinking about the Radio Shack 33-1070D omni that i have which was made by Shure and thinking about how many mics RS must have sold back in the day in general. For this omni mic, I'm guessing they asked Shure to copy the RE50 and the market was probably aimed at things like local access TV. For the record, idk how much it sounds like an RE50 - it sounds to me like an omni version of a 57.
wow! Has a little more body to it than the SM7DB, put it on a decent mic desk stand or boom arm......nice find! G.A.S. kicking in! - I suddenly want to get one..🤣😆. YES - SM58 test

Yeah I dont think a dynamic is even capable of wowing me anymore....but this one is nice IMO
That was definitely a tiny click. That's a nice find.
A fun one to use

Damn. Where can I find one of these? Love how bright it is!
Hard to find sadly

I definitely get more gas when it comes to older varieties. This mic has put me squarely on the hunt for more like it from the 80s
