What's funny is that the same exact argument can be twisted against Drake with his other music before the beef. Back then, you could not go anywhere without seeing or hearing at least a single second of Drake (from my own experience). That begs the question, why would UMG and Spotify push Kendrick Lamar's songs, but not Drake's songs before Not Like Us when the beef initially happened? Drake would logically be able to snuff out other smaller creators, snuffing out potential competitors due to how big his music was. UMG and Spotify would obviously push his songs up for wider views, and for, of course, monetary gain due to how big those songs were, gaining more and more listeners over the time. It would not make sense that all of a sudden Spotify would just switch sides as Drake alleges as soon as Not Like Us dropped. What about Push-Ups, Euphoria, Meet The Grahams, and Family Matters? Why aren't those as popular as Not Like Us, if it was the case of Not Like Us being pushed due to the beef? Why isn't Euphoria, Meet The Grahams, and 6:16 in L.A. more popular than they are, despite it being released by Kendrick Lamar? To also emphasize on this point, the beef also came by so fast, which would also cause Heart Part 6 (DRAKE VERSION) to be the technical "last" release of the beef, in which it would hypothetically also be pushed due to the beef as well. Is it also not completely logical that Not Like Us dropped during one of the biggest beefs in Hip Hop? Not to mention, Not Like Us is also an insanely catchy dance song, with the insanely good beat produced by Mustard (of course it's gonna be fire), and Kendrick's masterful flows. Within three hours or less, it was already playing in large clubs or parties, and being played at large events, on social media, and by reactors, thus gaining more listeners to the song, in which would cause more growth to Not Like Us. It isn't a case of botted growth, or artificial inflation, but spread of word of mouth, just like what happened with Kendrick Lamar's new album, GNX, in which the album rollout was only about an hour, yet it immediately became a large hit. (Sorry for the long typing, lemme know what y'all think lol)
There is one theory UMG did it to reduce how much they would have to pay Drake and to try to keep him from going independent. Drake was about to earn back his 400 million dollar contract in record time, and pushing Kendrick would give them way more leverage in the renegotiation. Not saying that's what happened or defending Drake, but that would provide a motive from UMG.
