The reason he is so strong, early on is because Veldora named him. And not just a normal name, a full name. He became absurdly strong after that. I don't believe that Veldora can be sensed, since he is still in the infinite prison.
Rimuru won the lottery at the start, Unique monster that has a skill that allows it to gain other skills at a ridiculous rate AND being bonded to one of the most powerful beings in the world.

One of the things I love is Rimuru was a ordinary guy with a job he liked and friends who liked him and that was a breath of fresh air from the animes where the main character was a horrible person, a shut in, or hated their job.

I think Slime is more comedic and Shield is more serious, even though Rimuru has much more interesting powers he doesn't fight very often cause the story is focusing on the world building while Shield Hero has many conflicts

Plus demon slayer was relatively unknown untill that 19th episode, then it became mainstream. This is going to be the same. It gets better and better. And very dark too.

Its different yet similar in themes and the character development is amazing. It has a slow start introducing the characters and the story but as soon as it gets into its first arc about the second MC, it really does shine. The story is about Yokai and Folklore Demons. You should watch it to make your own decision on how good it is.

That Slime is originally OP because of the skills he received during reincarnation: "Predator" and "Great Sage". The first allows him to absorb literally everything, and the second works as a divine Wikipedia and already knows everything about the world, in addition allowing him to receive and enhance abilities from the absorbed creatures. And the "Great Sage" has a lot more abilities. That make Slime a player in some kind of game, when everyone around is trying to survive and live.

The stabbing might be a reference to the incident that took place in Akihabara in 2008. Where a guy drove a truck into a crowd and started stabbing people. It is not specifically about it, but the weird randomness of it seems to have a connection.
