How to MAXIMIZE your SMALL Greenhouse!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 вер 2024
- Greenhouse organisation will help you to get the most out of your greenhouse, no matter its size. You can be more productive and enjoy your greenhouse growing. I only have a 6ft by 8ft greenhouse and I get huge harvests and grow all my seedlings for my entire garden in there throughout the year.
I only have a small greenhouse so I really need to make the most of the space I have. To do this, I use a method of making specific zones in the greenhouse for the different activities I do, making sure that everything I need is close to hand or easily accessible. I also think about the seasons and what I need in spring, summer, autumn and winter to make my greenhouse both efficient and productive all year round. And I have some tricks and gadgets to help me do this.
I'll also share some of my top tips for greenhouse storage solutions because when you have limited space, you need to get creative.

This is exactly the kind of nerdy garden video I wanted to watch. All the details are so helpful!!!!!!! Love!!!
😂🤣🤣 glad you enjoyed it
RIGHT! It was all the little details!❤️
😂😂😂
I know there are an awful lot of you guys who have joined us recently who are also new greenhouse gardeners. Hopefully this will get the wee brains working :D
Yes, yes, brain running wild :-D
😂😂😂😂 good luck!!!
Really enjoyed the video, thanks Eli. My Greenhouse gets assembled on the 6th April (hopefully) so this will help me to 'start as I mean to go on' - although I've already gone overboard with the amount of tomato seedlings I have! LOL
I think everyone has :D
Love her ! Her style , accent, great delivery and all of the excellent advise .
Wow, thank you!
The V shelf is genius! I wouldn't be surprised if Rhino start making one now! And the photo storage box is a great idea too!
They had better not 🤣🤣🤣
Whats better than a greenhouse and a narrator with an irish/scottish accent!?! Is it Shetland? Awesome!😊
Ha ha ha you gotta pick
They are both VERY different accents
@@eliandkate scottish?
🥰 yup
Where have you been my whole gardening life???? ❤ I garden on a larger scale 6,000sq ft but your information is so good! I love practical tips and the greenhouse content is excellent!
ha ha ha so 2 things... I've been here for 6 years, so where have you been???? 😂😍😂😂
and 60000 sq ft????? OMG I can only dream of that.... I have a 10m by 10 m space
Loads of nifty little tips that I know people will find useful! I gotta start by tidying up my polytunnel first! 😆😂
but it always looks so tidy :D
Thank you very much for all the tips and knowledge in this video. Great to hear another fellow Scottish voice.
Hope it helps get you sorted Dave
Me too, great greenhouse tips and I’m Scottish but live in Seattle and it warmed my heart and made me smile when she said go and get a cup of tea and a wee biscuit! ♥️👩🌾🫖☕️🍪🏴
Awwwww
Wait till you hear how often I say beastie!
I’ve got heaps of US gardeners wandering around in beastie farmer shirts from our channel merch 😂😂😂😂😂
Hi, new subscriber here. I’m planning my greenhouse. Hope to build from old windows this autumn. You have helped me focus not on the structure itself but its functionality. Every time I put pen to paper my floor plan got bigger! I wasn’t thinking in 3D! Now my plan is more realistic and useable. Thanks.
It is lovely to get garden tips from a fellow Scot for a change.
Oh that sounds like a proper exciting project, I can't wait to hear about it once you've got it going!!!!!!!!
I am in Massachusetts, USA. Planning for my first greenhouse and I so appreciate for all of your tips in this video! Thank you!!
This and your other videos have really helped me order my first greenhouse today. I’m like a kid at Christmas! This is my first year growing, your videos have helped an awful lot.
oh proper exciting. The first season with a new greenhouse is the absolute best :D
So helpful I will watch it multiple times.
😂😂😂😂
Fantastic !!! My fourth year with a smaller version of yours and thrilled to see this video. Will watch again and again. Thank you.
Glad it could be useful
I just got my first ever greenhouse and am overwhelmed, haha. I don’t know anyone who has one so don’t have anyone to ask my million and ten questions. Your video is sooooo helpful! Not only is your content so good, but the way you deliver it is wonderful! I can’t thank you enough. I’ve subscribed and look forward to learning more from you!
That is awesome! So glad you found this useful!!!
@@eliandkate I’ve lost count of how many of your videos I’ve watched now! Haha. Each one has had such good information, thank you again!
"Take a wee moment". LOVED HER!! Great tips. Efficient and well organized. Photo case for seedlings... BRILLIANT and ordered my from A.Prime just now. Well done Eli and Kate!
😂😂😂 Glad it was helpful D Dren
I am a new gardener and I have learned so much from your videos. Thank you so much for sharing. Much Love ❤️ 🙏🏽
So glad were able to give you helpful little snippets
Love these tips !! off to find 2 lenths of wood :) I have a simular greenhouse and on the integral shelf and put a row of ikea boot trays along these. At the back of the trays i have a long (capped) lenth of guttering i then have 3 peices of capillary matting which go over the boot try and into the guttering. So i just need to top up the guttering with water in summer and it keeps my plants happy. Had a great crop of chillis and aubergines there because they were kept happy. I had some wicking string off each to take off excess water into plants below.
ah your capillary bed sounds very similar to mine, you'll see that in a couple of months (or there's an older video on it)
:D
@@eliandkate fab also loving putting wicking string in pots to help draw up moisture :)
you are going to absolutely love it when I get going with my greenhouse plants :D
All I'm saying
Love the topic Eli! Brilliant idea! Loads and loads of useful tips. Are you suggesting I planted too many Chili seedlings!? It's not possible, I won't hear it.
Laughing at the idea of taking apart the greenhouse to get a trowel and having flashbacks to having to take apart mine to get the tables out!!
Congrats to Mzundastud!
Oh I don't remember that episode at all!!!!!
😂😂😂😂😂
So I really do have too many tomatoes then 🙈🤣🤣🤣 and thank you JB!
You’ve inspired me to organize my garage. It’s filled with old pots that need soil, seeds and a neater set up
That is awesome!
I love this video. I got my greenhouse completed this fall and now thinking about starting seedlings and realized my greenhouse is not ready for starting seedlings. So I decided I needed to make a plan and start getting things ready for what I can do this year. Your video was perfect for what I needed. I love the folding tables that was an excellent idea. Thank you so much.
You are entirely welcome 😁😁
just have tea and biscuits and chill hahah love it
😁
Oh wow! That’s fabulous! Thanks so much Eli - firstly for all your help and support with growing and secondly for such fab giveaways your channel has had! Looking forward to the hori hori! I will have no excuse now when it comes to weeding! 🙈🤣 💖💖💖
I expect to see it in use 😁😁
The Kitchen Garden with Eli and Kate oh I’m sure you will don’t you worry! 😁👌🏼 🌱
Great tips, Eli! Your #1 tip is spot on. I'm building my greenhouse right now and am thinking ahead to how I need to get it ready for planting. It's been a few years since I grew in a greenhouse and your insight is great to remind me what's important.
The greenhouse is the most vital piece of kit for me. I wouldn't be ae to grow half of my crops without it. I'm trying to imagine how hot a greengouse would get in your garden. I can't even imagine the temperatures you get. Means you probably have different priorities from me?
Loved all the little tips like kitchen hooks and wooden strips on bracket. It’s things like that you don’t think of 😍
I bet there are loads more of those ideas we haven't found yet :D
@@eliandkate yes that’s the beauty of sharing on here everyone gets to benefit 🤩
Great video! I have been searching for a video to help me organize my greenhouse, and this is the best by far. Thank you very much!
Glad it was helpful Elizabeth !
I’m so impressed I have no words.
As long as it gives you some ideas to help your set up 😀
EXCELLENT VIDEO! TIMELY TOO!!! thank you. I bought my green house, a mobile one, and have not set it up yet. I have many grow shelves in door next to the kitchen , dinning room with grow lights and it got unorganized and thats the problem I have , lots of seedlings turning into plants and they cant be set outside yet unless I make them comfy and cozy, lol ...they bursted forth , I started too early...you are a God send and very deightful to watch , love your accent. Just received a greenhouse for Christmas, and this video was exactly what I needed. Subscribed to your channel! Thanks a bunch. Cheers from the gulf coast of the USA!
Oh new greenhouses are so exciting….. I don’t think it’s ever as exciting as that first season with a new greenhouse
I bought the rainbow storage box too! I love it! 🎉❤
Best buy in ages
Great tips
Hopefully it’ll go towards a great year for you 🤞🤞🤞
I remember my Gran dragging us into the greenhouse and compost pile, wouldn't you know it I married a Gardner. Love your stuff, have a great year.

Omg I LOVE your accent!! I could listen to you all day! Thanks for sharing these tips ❤️
Glad the video has been useful 😀
Your voice (and accent) is just so lovely and calming; like you're not talking to a camera, you're talking to me. I hear you talk and can't help but smile and sip my coffee a little slower, enjoying the moment you provided. I look for whatever joy I can manage to find in the world these days and there's so much of it here in your videos so, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
Awwwwwwww glad you are enjoying the vids 😍😍😍

@@eliandkate I’ve tried the tips and they are worth using .
Excellent tips, lovely personality, what more could you ask for!
I've had a large polytunnel while I lived in North Carolina, and just downgraded to a smaller size after a move, because it's hard to source reliable replacement covers. I think it's time to get a decent sized greenhouse like yours!
The winds here in southern Ohio where I just moved are pretty brutal, not sure how long my PT will hold up, though it seems to have done fine through the worst of it.
Subscribed, can't wait to dig into your other videos. Cheers! :)
Awww welcome to the gang Brad.
My greenhouse is a 6ft by 8ft, so not particularly big… I’d love a bigger one but you’ve gotta make the best of what you have.
Some thoughtful organising goes a long way
Currently building my 6x8! Loved your video
Glad you enjoyed it Laure
Bows a good time to get organised and planned so you’re ready to go once the greenhouse is built.
If you’ve not seen it yet, the video on making the most out of your 6by8 might be useful.
mad how people have similar interests! As soon as I clicked on the video I remembered watching your how to video on the Sage Barista Express a few years back - Thanks!

Great video! With this being my first spring with the greenhouse I realized that 1. I am a pack rat and need to decide what I really do need in the greenhouse and what can go. 2. I installed a sink in my staging that is powered by the rain barrel in my garden. Well I don’t use it in the winter and haven’t set it up. The sink has turned into a “catch all” for random things. I’m thinking it’s taking up valuable space...when the rain barrel is just outside the greenhouse door.
Thanks for all the tips!
Sounds like you have had a sensible think 😁
You are such a lovely, sweet woman. Learning loads from you! Karen x
Awwww
Glad you are learning from us Karen 😍
Handy tips! Thank-you! I have a greenhouse being built next week, haven't ordered any staging benches or shelving yet so will take what you've said on board, really liked the 2 pieces of wood slotted into the brackets idea (easy) and the hooks with the bamboo as I like to see things and get my hands on them quickly. Have also been looking at seed storage and had seen the photo boxes and wasn't sure as tins/wooden boxes look nicer, but i think i will go for the photo boxes now.
I love your use of space! Just subscribed to your channel.
We can’t all have big fancy greenhouses and poly tunnels, so we find ways to make the best of what we have 😂
Thank you so much for your detailed and informative videos. Just dismantled and brought home my very first glass greenhouse which was free. Its been something I’ve wanted for 20 years but always missed out on. It’s an 8x6 and I’m so pleased to have come across your channel. Pen and paper at the ready to write down what I want to achieve.
Yay the new greenhouse is always exciting.
I have a couple of greenhouse playlists that might be useful, to get you going.... But remember it's about more than just the greenhouse... All the gardening knowledge can help you be a better greenhouse gardener. 🙂
Thank you for your video. I really like all the info and your personality.
Hope it helps get you sorted
We're on a fixed income and live in a food desert. After spending over an hour on Amazon agonizing over a greenhouse purchase, (types, materials, dimensions, etc.) I decided to think it over. Then I ran across this video. Thanks to you, I realized I didn't need a giant-sized greenhouse. Now we can actually afford more supplies!
Thank you for posting this!
Blessings, Health, Prosperity, and Peace to you and yours and to all who read this! 😘👍😇💖
Glad it’s been useful Jane.
If you search locally you can probably get a greenhouse cheap or free if you are happy to dismantle it.

This is profoundly good advice and information. I'm planning a greenhouse and my planning is all about zones, function, and flexibility to adapt to the seasonal needs. Thanks so much for all your insights!
You are entirely welcome Bud 😀
Waiting for our first greenhouse to be delivered🎉. This video was full of great tips, it can be so overwhelming at times...but your videos are all inspiring and practical ... thank you ☺️
Glad it was helpful!
I think the key is to stop reading all the gardening forums and watching all the youtube videos because it can be really overwhelming with people telling you what you need to do or need to have and to be honest, all of it is nonsense when you consider that we can all only give advice about our personal experience and our personal set ups which might not actually be right for you. So remember, it's ok for you to do things your way and its ok to take your time and learn. :D
I’m in American and I just built my greenhouse. I’m looking to build some shelves and I am so glad I ran across your video. Great ideas and beautiful greenhouse ❤
Glad you found us 😍
I don’t have a glasshouse but you make me want to have one! Everything is so neatly organised. I’d love to grow peaches or grapes. Love your channel.
I do love my greenhouse. Not sure I’d be able to grow peaches but I know some folk in Scotland grow grapes in theirs

Great video with lots of great tips. I store my seeds alphabetically (some people store them by sowing date) in Bold Gel Washing Capsule containers. They hold loads of packets of seeds.
Great tip!
Just had my first greenhouse (Rhino) installed yesterday! Now looking to buy folding stage to get myself started as at the moment it is just big empty glass box which our cat Storm thinks is somewhere for her as she sits at the door to get in even when we are in the house! Learning so much from you and enjoying tips and hints so thanks!

If it helps, there’s a link to a place that does the staging on my website
Love the video with great hints and tips and abundance of enthusiasm. Thank You ❤
😍 hope it helps Patti
Just yesterday fell upon you and your wonderful vids. Loving them! Commenting on what you use to store your seeds in… I have a HUGE fishing tackle box (the size a person can sit on while fishing) and this is what I use for my seed storage. Folks say when selecting a greenhouse to go a tad bit larger than what you have in mind to fill it with. I believe the same to be true on seed storage containers. Lol. Bright blessings.
That is a VERY good idea with the seed box size 😀😀😀
Very helpful for my new greenhouse. Thanks for sharing.
Glad it was helpful! 😀😀😀
Awesome info!!!!! I'll rewatch quite often. Thank you!!!!!
Glad its useful. I realised when I was setting up this greenhouse that making use of the space is quite an important topic for a lot of people, hence the whole playlist of videos about setting up a greenhouse. I suspect I'd doesn't matter how big your space, you still need a bit of planning 😏
Im lucky in that I have a really good potting shed so my greenhouse is only for my sown seeds, my seedlings and my young plants. I only grow dwarf tomatoes now and I only have four seedlings. My heated mats and propagators are in my "gym" in the house so its a mix of greenhouse and home for my propagation. Take care you two
Ha ha ha a people propagator!
@@eliandkate It is very useful, because if I hadnt used it I would only have been 5`3 instead of my 6`3 lol .....smarty pants hahaha

I love your energi and I enjoy your videos a lot!! Thank you for all the good tips and trix!! With love from snowy Sweden 🥰
snowy yiks!!
Thank you so much. I'm sure some of the tips you've given will come handy for my new greenhouse.
Most excellent tips, Eli. I especially liked your seed-storage box (although, I love the looks of the vintage metal box you once used).
Alas, my organizational skills suck, big time. I just go from one potting to the next with no real plan. It’s a required man thing, I guess.
Regardless, between the incessant complaints of my wife, Lilly, and the teachings of this video, I’m going to make an effort to aspire to organize things in the greenhouse a little better. I can do that, and as long as I can still keep the garage in its current state of organized chaos, I’ll be happy with the results.
You were so right about over planting seedlings. I planted enough romaine lettuce to feed a school for wayward girls, and they all finally ripened ... all at once. Today, I was out knocking on the neighbor’s doors (wearing my mask) to give away lettuce, and I had a hard time of it: apparently, most are at church on Sunday mornings. But, I was finally able to pom off eight heads without scaring too many children.
This last: I noticed you finally got a thumbs-down vote. Which is proof that one of your viewers is an asshat. Oh, well, what cha gonna do?
Your friend, Tim from California, ha,ha; also known as Michael Donahoe ... Michael is my first name, remember?).
:) Oh I remember
I would have taken some lettuce :D
Don't worry about the thumbs down, just means the video wasn't what someone was looking for.
I really need fixed raised shelving to keep the slugs off, but I'm too tight to buy the rhino ones 😄 such an important topic when planning your gardening year. 👍
To be honest, I don't think the shelves are worth the cost. The fixings are really flimsy 😭
Love the idea of the v shelf!
Just a wee handy extra
Thank you so much. I'm about to put my kennel and convert into a greenhouse. Not even sure if I have a green thumb but I am looking forward to it. Wish me luck and thank you for all your tips.

I loved that seed storage case when I saw it in one of your other videos (love the pride colours too). You have a great presentation style (I'm getting teacher vibes but that could be because my parents were both teachers and so was my wife)... some great tips there for me to think about incorporating into my greenhouse (one more roof panel built today... four more to go and the roof will be done.)

Woooo hoooooo
Great video with great advice.
I've just bought my first polycarbonate 6x6 greenhouse. And I'm so excited to get started, I'm a gardener by trade so I know a few things, but never owned my own greenhouse.
Thanks for all the advice 🙂
I still think that first new greenhouse is the MOST exciting time ever! Soooooo good 😃😃😃
Just wanted to say that this is very helpful video! I ordered larger greenhouse (12ft x 16ft) and trying to figure out what shelving and staging to add to it. But find it strange there isn't standard movable option in the company I ordered the greenhouse from. As I live in Scotland I definitely need something what works as seed starter earlier in the year, and than moves to growing all the heat loving plants, like tomatoes and cucumbers 😍. So permanent shelving is kind of pointless.
Also love the tape storing trick! Defo will try it.
I absolutely recommend the foldable benches I have
They’ve been a game changer for me
Excellent!!! Thank you!
Looking forward to hearing tales of your fantastic greenhouse Jamie
Eli! A priority for me is a chair where I can drink a beer and watch my plants grow when its cold outside. Do your glass house have full sun
Sorry to disappoint He'd, but my garden doesn't even get full sun, neverind the greenhouse.
Most of the garden is in shade, tends to be the back of the garden which gets the sin and usually only from lunch time till about 5pm
Wicked tips and insight, cheers a bunch.
Glad you enjoyed it
fantastic video .. plenty to think about .. I probably need collapsable staging and should rethink shelving ideas
Gotta make the best of our spaces 😍
You're a gem! If you're ever in Australia come and help me. Free room and board :)
Hmmmm now that's a good deal right there. What do you need help with?
Great video and tips on storage! It seems there is never enough space in the greenhouse. Staging is SO important. I just built an orchid shade house and filled it completely up with edible plants in 12 hours with no room left for the orchids! Oh well, I guess I will add on. Haha! Thank you for your video.
Oh I’ve done that 😂😂😂
Great video. I just ordered the photo case for my seeds. Brilliant.
Did you get your hands on a clear one or a coloured one?
@@eliandkate I actually did the clear because I had a small red container a few years back and caught myself squinting to see what was inside. My worry is the clear one will show dirt more quickly and I am hoping not. Thanks again for a great video

🖐 Your so right about looking forward because last year I had so many seedlings that turn into large plants that I just didn't have room for. Bigger pots and so on. I had plants all over the garden tables lol but I did sell them👍didn't have a greenhouse like yours I just put my seeds on a table indoors until ready to go outside. A couple of years ago we had a makeshift greenhouse tucked nicely out of the winds and just loved it and keeping it organised was a must. This year I've bought another one. Just wish we had a lovely one like yours but we just cant afford it😏 we even have the space 😁 seen a couple of second hand ones but decided to keep it simple. Pluss it's only for summer plants. We are in West Sussex and still worry about the very strong winds now with global warming 😬😔 ours took off one year even with the slabs around it😬 I'm really loving learning from you even though I've been gardening for years. Always something new to learn so thank you 😊 🫶🌱🥰
