If this was the only nail shape I could do, I would stop doing my nails forever!!! There is nothing, in my eyes, that would ever make me like or choose this shape.
💯👆🏼 this!!! 😊❤
Pro swimmers could probably shave a few tenths of a second with these bad boys…
At the beginning I was thinking hammer head. I got nervous because I prefer a short sqoaval and thought please don’t do my preferred shape. I was a nail biter for years 😬 and now experiencing my nails splitting constantly right where my nail grows 😡. This is not a shape I would enjoy ever, too wide.
Same! I never have and never will be ok with this shape. I was asked for them once and said no
Me either. I can’t stand that shape!!!!!
I knew it was the duck nails as soon as she said she hated it, I feel like people who like square nails would like this, but people who prefer coffin, stiletto (my preferred shape) or almond tend to hate it just a little bit more because they’re just so wide. Personally I hate them, they make the finger look shorter and stubbier for some reason,
EDIT: I stand corrected even the square nail community hates duck nails. They’re just terrible all around.
I'm more of a squoval girl & this .. THIS ?? The horror 😅
I love square nails but duck nails are SOOOO ugly
I LOVE square nails but I wouldn’t be caught dead in these 😂😂😂 I can’t believe this shape was a thing that people wore, then I read a comment that said Paris Hilton had, and I thought! Yep makes sense, it would go perfectly with her tacky orange tan and white lipstick back in the day! 😂😂😂😂😂
Don't you dare think us square nail people would like to wear Jersey girl duck nails! They are hideous and ugly af and should be illegal!🤣
Yeah, no I like square but duck nails are a big nope
Lol. For April fools day you should do a full set of these and just talk about them like they're the best thing ever hahaha! It's still always nice to see your quality shine through even though the shape is... kinda sus😅😅😅
I was thinking the same!
as someone who’s hated duck nails since middle school, this is so damn funny watching her painfully trying to justify it while still vehemently hating it 🤣🤣🤣
I don't even care. That will never be a valid nail shape to me. 😆 🤣
Exactly This is the ugliest nail shape I've ever seen in life
@dontdomeboo81 even the lipstick shape has some artistic merits.
💯
What is lipstick shape?????
@@MommyOfZoeAndLiam It looks like the side profile of a lipstick 💄.
This is what I call a Nope Nail. Bubble nails are right up there with this one!
What... is bubble... nail??
The ones made with soap?
Bubble nails! Omg I erased them from my memory theyre so cursed
Are the bubble nails those ugly chunky looking ones that make short fingers look kike toes?
@@elyssabarajas3554 they are huge nails that look like skin blisters
I’ve done this shape on a client for almost 35 years. It is her favorite.
I thought that shape had only been around for about 20 years
Aw. Lol❤
My second favorite shape. I used to rock this in the 90s. You did a great job 😍.
I love them sm they are the only ones that look nice on me cuz I have long skinny fingers lmao
Never in the many years I’ve watched suzie have I seen such a look of ick on her face. But she taught me something today. If you’re not sure of the type of nail you want, ask your tech what her favorite it to do. Bet you’ll get her best work.
The first time I saw someone wearing their nails this way I thought she had to do that to correct nail damage or something...like it was a prosthetic nail of sorts. Then she was showing them off and was proud, so then I was even more puzzled. 😂
Wait, you’ve actually seen some one wear these?? I always thought it was something people did for views on social media but 😂😂
@@kasie680 Yep! They were hot pink and had rhinestones on them. ( It was my niece)
A girl I grew up with used to get this shape all the time the first time it was in style. It was so ugly then, I can't believe some idiot thought it was a good idea to bring it back.
No no no
@@kasie680 some people get them bc they give a sort of early 2000’s y2k aesthetic & that’s very trendy at the moment

Those are my nails! 💅🏻
Originally it was a mistake on me as well but as I wore that first set I got hooked. -pun intended- Thank you Nail Career Education for going out of your comfort zone by showcasing and including one of the more “out there” styles. 💜💜
Definitely try the mermaid tail look. Encapsulated color sparkles would be nice. I’m trying hard to accept the shape lol.
I thought it HAD to start from a mistake! Thanks for verifying that for me! I have practiced too hard to get my nails perfect to do this on purpose!
Looks like swimming flippers.
😂😂
I feel like that nail shape would get caught on everything and tear off so easily. Even square nails get caught on everything for me, so these seem like an accident waiting to happen.
I agree, it's seems like I'm going to hurt myself all the time with this nails
Agreed
I could see a shape like this causing me to descend into fits of rage as my nails catch on everything and I'm unable to pick anything up.
Same here! I do my nails square maybe two times a year and I always regret it...I get stuck everywhere with them, it gets so annoying...stiletto gang 4eva 😂
I've never tried it, but I'd like to have it at least once!! The flare has an aesthetic vibe, something artsy and purposefully weird. The shape I hate the most will be the lipstick one. I hate uneven shapes. This is at least symmetrical!
Edit: I do admit it's a very impractical shape, but I love it the more I think about it. It's a nice once off design!
Nooooo,don't!!!!!
Nooooo don't!!!!!
Suzie I love love love how you modeled not only tolerance, but acceptance and embracing of something that you find different or hard to do so. If everyone can treat other people like the way you have tried to respectfully treat “duck nails turned mermaid tail nails,” this world would be a much better place. Thank you for teaching love and respect (even for nail shapes you think are ugly) ❤
As a Deaf woman, and a wheelchair user - two completely separate things that make my hands very important, and make them stand out a lot more - this look is very interesting, mainly because the uniqueness, and wide variety of designs that this much landscape would allow art-wise! But I can just see my hands quite literally STUTTERING and flubbing my words left and right.
I would have never thought of hands as being able to stutter, but in the context of sign language… makes total sense.* I’m loving your sense of humor! 🤭❤
*Especially with the flared nail shape!
Your imagery is spectacular. I.can actually see it.
I just imagine 20 nail corners getting caught in the sleeves of my sweaters as I'm trying to put them on. Imagine trying to put a knit cardigan on with these beasts. OOF.
Stuttering hands - that's awesome.
For real. I would haaaaate trying to sign with this nail shape lol
Not for me. But for those who like them, go for it. Loving your nails is a confidence booster.
So true!! 🤗
I love the squate nails thats what i wrar but not with a flare i don't think i could wear that. Its just not me. Its cute but not for me.🫠
I have raggedy nails and dry cuticles and never think about the nail salon. This popped up in my suggested and I could stop watching. You're an amazing artist!
It looks so cute on your thumb! I haven’t tried duck nails but your tip about the full coverage version definitely has given me the guts to try.
LOL! Camera man said “I kinda like it!” 🤣 so supportive!!
It’s wild that this nail shape made a comeback. I never thought I’d see the day lol
I used to watch tutorials and just question, “who thought of this”😂
That’s true when I saw that I was horrified that anybody would bring that mistake back
There was an episode of US "What Not To Wear" and 1 participant was so proud of her duck nails and even claimed to be the originator of the trend.
The minute the video introduction began and she said “I’m doing this nail shape I hate” I KNEW AUTONATICALLY that it was flare nails. Remember…. Sizie said the one thing she didn’t like about nails in the 80s was that the nails they wore back then were more flared out on the free edge.
sAME🙋🏽♀️😄
Thank you for this Suzie!❤ Your video has me in stitches!! 😂😂
From the moment this started, me staring at the screen screaming "fans, fans, fans...it's gonna be fans!!!!!"
Basically the same 👍
I thought duckbill or lipstick
I call them shovels 😅
We used to and still do 🤣 call them duck feet 💀
I'm low key obsessed with duckies. I couldn't actually wear them as my everyday nail but the nailestate is great for extra art. I follow several ducky only accounts on Instagram. 🤣
I wear almond or short rounds.
OMG! Suzie says Nailestate too! ⚰️
Good point for nail art. 👍
Susie started nail estate
@@courtneybartlett97 I use it as an off shoot from the term "Lid Estate" when discussing eye makeup. Wonder if Suzie did that too. Adding "estate" to describe a larger than usual surface area existed before I or Suzie. ☺️
You did this nail so cute 🥰 I love that you try so many different methods and techniques! New school and old school 😂 really embodies we never stop learning
wow, I actually think this can be a cute shape when it’s short! It seems like a great way to give someone with shorter nails more space for art/designs :)
I am not a fan (haha pun intended), but I do like Cameraman's idea of making a mermaid tail design on it. At least that would legitimize it in my opinion! 😆
If nothin else, it would try and make it prettier.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I totally want to see that! File a small v in the middle? I would be interested in a fallow up video.
Kinda like that dog collar after your dog has surgery.😏
I've never seen this before thank goodness! Its awful 😢
I thought that was the worst shape ever, I know when I was working in a salon it was called the duck bill 😂 I have chubby fingers, the square nails always made my hands look long and slender...... If we can shape and mold my body that way I'd be great
I cant even stand square on my chubby fingers. It's got to be squoval or my fingers look chopped off at the ends, lol.
Almond, stiletto, or coffin all the way. Slimming ❤️
Almond, stiletto, or coffin all the way. Slimming ❤️
"Suzie" you did an awesome job luv and for me I absolutely love them thanks for sharing and showing much love always 💅❤❤❤
Oh, Susie dear, this was painful! 😂 Oh, how I admiring you for having the strength to make this video!
OMG! I'm so proud of myself... My last 2 manicures I did on myself - I did them with forms!!! Not dual forms, but just paper forms, and it worked!!! I just did them yesterday, so I'm on a fresh nails high. My last mani (done with forms) took all day, but I absolutely adore how it came out! Thank you for giving me the lessons and confidence to break free of dual forms! My guess (before viewing) is that you gonna use the flared form to do duck nails, which aren't very pretty imo, but are fun to watch happen.
Suzie is ON THE STRUGGLE BUS in this one🤣 love that she's stepping outside her comfort zone!
Love the cute duck artwork at the end. Nice work, cameraman. Great video, Suzie!
Suzi, it's so funny to me. This shape has never appealed to me, but I like the shape you made😂😂
Almonetto was always my shape, but recently I’ve tried a set of coffin and it’s a fun shape, I like it!
This shape, on the other hand...that’s one trend I wish died off and never made a comeback. I NEVER wear nails without at least a bit of a taper towards the tips because I much prefer the lengthening and slimming effect this has, I don’t even wear square because it makes my short, small fingers look even wider and stubbier. This shape is a NIGHTMARE. It literally gives the opposite look of what I’m looking for. Not to mention it looks so annoying to wear!
I agree….UGLY! I hate it, too! I’m still wearing square. It took me a while to get used to square, but I have worn them for over 20 years.
@@dianawilson995 I think square is one of those shapes that can look so elegant and beautiful on some people, and so short and squat and wide and hideous on others (me!). It really depends on your anatomy; people with long, thin fingers and slim, long nail beds look BEAUTIFUL with square.
Nice tapered coffins...definitely.....duck nails...eww lol
What is Almonetto shape? We then I wore nails I always got square/round.
@@DonnaRupinski It’s a shape that is somewhere between almond and stiletto; it’s pointier than an almond nail, but rounder than a stiletto nail.
LOL, OMG I AM CRINGING!!! I was asked by a client to do this shape about 16 years ago and I refused….she wasn’t happy that I wouldn’t do it, but I refused to willingly attach my reputation to a shape I wasn’t proud of! 22 years as a nail tech and I’ve only ever been asked for that shape, once!
So glad you stuck to your morals 💪🏾😅
i absolutely love love love duck nails ive just started doing duck nails on myself and my friends with polygel!!!
I can’t watch this without hearing Novympias parody 🤣( that was made with the utmost love and adoration for you Suzie, as I have myself for you of course 💙)
I didn’t know people actually ask for this shape. I just thought it was a poorly done nail set every time I’ve seen it. Omg, no, nope, nuh uh. I couldn’t do it. 😂 I was always an almond shape girl, but coffin shape has grown on me.
Same, I would see people with duck nails, and I thought they clearly paid for bad nails
Well, I’ve never actually heard anybody physically say I want duck nails, but they do appear
Never ever will I be caught dead with a set like this.
I personally don't like them on me but I feel like people with a few very specific aesthetic pull this off very well and I always like it on them!
I used to do my nails very similar not quite as flared out but similar and I loved it. It was the first set I did..
Love this. "I'm doing duck nails" and then proceeds to file it into the least flared duck shape I've ever seen 🤣🤣Probably just camera angle... But I'd do the same. I hate duck nails with a passion just because of the breakage risk alone. Plenty of space for art for sure, but no good if you break a tip off the next day after doing all that work!
Yeah it strikes me more as an "art" nail, to create looks for one night or special occasion 😄 I would catch these edges on EVERYTHING, I do not have the spacial awareness for these shapes
I've been wearing my natural nails squared for years, but recently started watching your videos and you convinced me to go almond. That being said, I do NOT like the duck nails even after being a square fan for so long!
Love your videos (and Camera Man). I always learn so much! I have very small nails and prefer them very short so the duck is a NO for me too. Thank you for showing!
I knew it was gonna be those obnoxious snow shovel nails. I will say, though, this is the least awful I've seen it done. Thank you for powering through that for us! (Ducky Susie at the end was adorable, by the way.)
when i call these "trashy" i don't mean it in a derogatory way i think trashiness as a whole is a valid vibe and if that's your look then this is the perfect nail :)
Exactly! This nail perfectly captures everything about 2003-2006! It's Playboy Bunny, Paris Hilton, Valley Girl, Tube Tops and Daisy Dukes and Cheetah print! And that's not a bad thing those ladies are so cool! But it's so dated 😭
@@VergiI_SpardaTrisha Paytas. 😄
“Trashy” is a valid vibe?? 😂😂😂
I don’t think anyone would think, I’d like to look Trashy, it’s my vibe 😂😂
@@kasie680 agree with you. but a lot of these kids now are committed to a specific look, sometimes crazily specific. Where when I was their age, that was just the general popular look and we didn't have a ton of subcultures like they've got now. It's definitely strange that it's a look among some women because looking back, it looks very Bakersfield/NJ party girl to me and seeing someone wearing that now, would make me think they haven't evolved out of that era.
@@kasie680 You wouldn't think but I have personally known people who REVELED in their self-proclaimed trashy aesthetic and they were honestly great at parties.
I’m with you .. never ever would I like this wide nail shape!!
Hi Suzie! I would love to see you try the claw nails! personally I love them, but im just starting trying to do them :)
I have Never liked this shape either. Yours was created to perfection, I was in awe. In the end, it was not as ducky compared to the viewers duck-nails you shared. Your psyche wasn't having it, lol❣️🤭🦆
Ok, I'm actually thrilled to see this BECAUSE it's much more like my natural nail shape! No, I don't want a lot of flare... and I like my nails short (just past the tips of my fingers) ...but I like my nails to look natural & my natural nails do not grow out "straight" or "curved." I'm just beginning to learn to do my own nails, because my natural nails have always because so thin & rippl-ly, and they peel & break easily. I've been using glue on nails for a while, but they destroy my nail & don't hold up for long enough. I'm very tough on my nails. So I'm learning different products to see what works best. Besides it taking 6 hrs, I'm really happy with how my 1st acrylic application turned out! But anyway, I've always gotten so upset that there never to seem to be any nail shapes that mimick mine.... so this is AWESOME! Thank you, Susie, for sharing this!!! I've learned so much from you already.
Hey you can put a layer of builder in a bottle on your natural nail to protect from the glue. Then when you pull off that set of press-ons, you can just simply add more into the back area, and glue on another set. That's exactly what I do! You can wipe off the sticky of the builder, and just file it with a gritty file, or what I do is add a top coat as well. Occasionally I'll see some lifting in the base of the gel when I remove a set, so I have to take steps to remedy this. I file it until it's almost down to the lifted area, then you file from the center of the nail plate right in front of where the lifting is. It will soon fly off, and then you can just add a new layer of gel altogether
Your nails sound exactly the same as mine, an issue that I've been trying to combat for years. How have acrylics been doing for you? Do you have any other things you've figured out that help with these issues? I've been trying to grow mine out since I finally kicked a 20 odd year habit of nail biting a couple years ago, but they keep ripping once they get to a certain length. Only thing I've found that helps has been filing the nail into an almond shape, the edges get caught less that way making them last a little longer. But I still can't grow them anywhere near as long as I want to. I get maybe 3 to 5 mm of free edge before it rips off again
I actually have worn a slight flare to my square nails for years. I’ve been doing my own nails for about 30 years now. I keep them very long inch and a half to two inches and I’ve gone longer but I never narrow my sides when filing so I end up with a slight flare and I love the look.
Love it, thank you
I love the diversity of this industry. I’ve done this shape before and I just love making my clients happy. They pay me $$ good! So as long as they’re satisfied I’m ok with it.
Love them. They are ghetto fab and the art styles are endless
maybe a thumb. I couldn't type with these lol
Excatly. This opinion is giving microaggression
@@tammysanchez4688 Could you maybe tell me what makes this agro? The content creator invited people to share if they loved them or not, and this lady seems to be doing that.
Is it that she's not agreeing with the popular opinion, or is it the "ghetto" usage and a fear that she's appropriating? I genuinely want to know, because I may have been making the same mistake if this is actually trolling, and not that it matters but, I do not like duck nails, but I love stuff that makes others uncomfortable like duck nails lol.
@@plaguerat6356oh people just need something to be offended about.
I was in beauty school 16 years ago when these were at the height of popularity. I remember so many girls doing these on each other while practicing acrylic nails. I hated them.
that is an awkward shape. I really enjoy your videos. I loved my acrylic nails before I had babies. Now because of budget and time I am learning to do poly gel. I just bought your gingerbread cuticle oil and I love it!
I knew right off the bat which shape you were going to create 😂
I noticed I have a lot of similar likes and dislikes that you have so I had a strong feeling of what the shape was going to be. I can't stand this shape lol, there are a few shapes I don't like very much, but this one is definitely on top of that list 😆
Thank you for the video! Its important we try out all ideas, even if we don't particularly like all of them, can learn something we didn't expect! 😇💕
I had this done to my nails by not very proficient nail techs when I went in for square shaped nails! I knew exactly what shape you were talking about in your intro before you announced the duck shape nail. I hated it and would file down the flared sides. I would end up with a flat nail end, but at least it wasn’t flared 😂
I genuinely thought this was a mistake. I didn't know people asked for that shape.😂
Same! 😂
Lol at the animated Suzie duck at the end 😂😂😂 kudos to cameraman for that 🤣😅 he was having so much fun teasing you Suzie 😂 "I kinda like it" bahaha
It’s so funny because since I’ve been doing my mothers Nails, she always liked that duck Nail shape and slowly over the years I finally got her into a tapered square but definitely got away from the duck nails. It took a while, but I did it thank goodness for that 😅
The end screen ducky is just too cute
I love this nail shape so much I think it’s important to have options 🎉
I always assumed it was a status thing - the only way to get this shape is with some kind of acrylics (or other nail building materials) so you can't easily fake it at home. It means you have to have enough money to go to the salon every month
The athleisure wear of nails
True, true. I do my own natural nails.... No way could I dupe!
I think it’s more of a 2000’s cringe thing

Neat shovels you sculpted on your fingers there! 😊
oh I called those the fan nails, saw it on Jerseylicious, the person wearing them has them as a french mani and said it made doing hair easier... lol the music you used for it is perfect!
You’re not the only one! That nail shape is atrocious to me!! I’m a stiletto girl, like super stiletto, the sharper the better! I also love a good long, narrow coffin! With my recent career field change, I had to get rid of the long stiletto and go to square but I’m like you, the square has to be short, and it is 😔. I miss my long nails but the short squares are starting to grow on me so we’ll see!
Literally what I had to do a month ago. Try the tapered square shape! Adds a bit of a kick style wise to the basic square and visually lengthens a bit.
Lucky for me the firm I work for doesn’t care about nails like that, so I’m gonna let them grow out again 😊
Ugh I love a good pair of claws! That’s what I call my stilettos 😂 my fingers love a taper so I’m not a fan of the short squares at all.
Funny thing about this nail shape...my natural nails grow that way. Not as exaggeratedly as this, but they start off narrow at the cuticle and flare out at the free edge. I have always HATED this about my nails, and always filed them to either square or coffin shaped, especially when they grow out, and my nails grow fast. I can't even with this shape, it just reminds me of how much I hate my own natural nail shape. 🤢
I like the shape now, you did a great job
Gorgeous ❤😊
You always inspire Nail Techs like me.

It actually looks really good on you 😂😂❤️❤️
This shape makes me want to scream but I still love watching you work!!!!
While some of the nail artists were able to distract my eye from the overall shape of the nail, myself, I prefer quite another look. Thank you for what I consider bravery to show how this shape is done.
I honestly, genuinely, do like this shape and I bring it up a lot lol. I wouldn't personally wear it bc I am also partial to long stiletto/almond for snagging reasons. If I had someone ask for this shape I would be so excited 😊
Gorgeous
I don't live the shape but I do like how it turned out on you. Yellow is such a fitting color for this style💛💛💛💛💛
Duck nails. I think that shape really took off with Snooki from Jersey Shore back in the day. I like the look. Never actually wore them on myself however it is a shade that I want to try. I would use a duck nail tip, but you sculpted that so easy. Love the design.
I love them when they're short to medium length and in the thinner side. They were very popular where i grew up except they were always so thick

I think you were a great team player to show others how to make it from scratch or from using jelly tips
First time on your channel.
Your voice is very relaxing 😌 watching the process also very soothing 😊 love the comical music in the background 😂 but yes, that nail shape is horrid 😂 although I love actual ducks ❤️ 🦆
My sister’s nails grow like this naturally, she calls them “candy corn shaped.” I have yet to do her nails bc I don’t know how to make them more narrow for her. Bless her heart, and nails 😂
Mine too! I've always struggled with my nails because of this.
Mine too, they grow wide and flat. But they’re also thin and weak, so as soon as the flare starts to be visible I cut the corners and round them into ovals.
My nails widen at the top, too. I use nail cutters at an angle on the corners and nip them. And then file to a more squoval shape if keeping natural. If not, I just cut them and do my nails normally (add tips, via form or glue on), and they've never seemed to have an issue. It's been over 10 years. ;P You can try that for your sister if you'd like!
It's an interesting shape, but no. This is not my favorite in the least! I'm not a nail tech, so I never knew what this shape was called.
I appreciate you being open to teaching it though. It made me watch😂
This is a beautiful shape!... on my pony.
I can definitely see how this started as an error.
I hate this shape too .. but you created the first one I could stand to wear, honestly 🤣
I remember there was a nail competition show and one the contestants LOVED this shape. I was horrified!!! 🤢🦆
I hate duck nails too lol. They're just opposite of my personal preferences 🤷♀️ I do think that some people can objectively rock them well and they look good from a scientific perspective in terms of proportions compared to each of the parts of the whole, if that makes sense.
My favorite ever though is a tightly pinched Pipe nail 🥰
I’m on my way in seeing this video but I actually have ducky nails on right now and I love them they’re my new favorite go to❤❤
I didn’t know this had a name, but I always thought of it was platypus, or spatula nail. I was a French tip square fan in late 90’s, early Millennia. Occasionally my nail tech would flare the w white tip at bit…no,no, I hated it and asked her to take down a bit, even if it meant I was more likely to get a break at the free edge of my natural nail. Loved the image of you as a duck at the end..perfect ending.
no, please no . . . if this is duck nails, i’m clicking off 🦆🦆🦆
i don’t need to be traumatised on a Saturday morning 💕
😂
I always called it “the fan nail” because it fanned out- not a fan of the fan nail! 😂
😂
Why!!!!!!! I hate it too…and I haven’t even watched this yet😂
