This is a common fault in the X100 cars and many other Jaguars. Fortunately its caused not by a complete breakage of any particullar component, but by the metal clips becoming dislodged and no longer acting on the plastic cam that forms part of the vanity mirror cover. This video is also useful if your vanity lights no longer turn on when the flap is raised, as youu can see the working of the switch mechanism, and how to access the lamps and therefore replace them.
Additionally I got a Gorilla pod for christmas!!

John, Very nice repair job! When my convertible top wouldn't go back up, I put it up manually. Then I couldn't get the rear windows to go up and you were the first one I looked to for help on how to get the rear window to go back up. I believe it was you that told me how to trip the micro limit switch so I could raise the rear windows back up. You also explained how to take the car off valet mode. You have great tips. Thank you!....Bruce
When I did the same job about 15 years ago on both my XK8 sunvisors I simply filled the little gap with epoxy resin and pushed the metal clip back in. I reckon that's a bit easier and less likely to go wrong than plastic welding. All these years later and the visors are still fine. 🙂
As usual, great advice that worked perfectly. Visor flap fixed! Cheers
Hi John, thanks a lot for the video, I did it today as you showed and it worked like a charm!
Would you consider doing a video about fixing the auto-dimming rear view mirror to extract the liquid and eliminating the "sunset in Mexico City" effect?
Thanks again and I wish you a great 2023!
Great suggestion, but Fortunately or unfortunately dependant on your point of view, I dont have an auto dimming mirror.
Thanks for the video John. That will be next weekend's job!😁👍
Hello John,
I had a flappy visor mirror when I bought her 7 years ago, I fixed it with some epoxy glue and it's still going strong.
Thanks for all of your help and videos, I hope you have a wonderful 2023 .
Kind regards,
Jon
Thanks for sharing Jonathan. And HAPPY NEW YEAR MY FRIEND👍
I've used 3d printer filement (PLA) to do similar repairs on the seat control housing. You can usually find samples are available for little or no cost.
Great tip!
My flappy flap has been like that for years, really looking foward to this one😉👍
See you shortly Andrew👍
I did repair before, not good result, but the trick to weld the plastic on the back, is the solution, thank you and Happy New Year.
Thanks Tony. Happy new year!
XKR from Tucson , thank you and Happy New Year
Hi John, very valuable piece of advice! need to have a go, much better than sticky stuff! have a good 2023....
Es un trabajo extraordinario, muy delicado, eres un cirujano de la mecánica.
Cheers John, a very timely video for my XKR Happy New Year
Happy new year!
I recently bought a cheapo tempreature regulated soldering station. (50€). Plastic and foam welding are now a breeze as soon as one figures out the right temperature setting. No more burning marks and very controlled melting. For your next x-mas whishlist perhaps?
Thanks for sharing. and i vould use i new/better iron🤔
Hi John, thanks for showing me the "how to" on this. Have you thought of replacing the Festoon Bulbs with LED's whist you were at it? Also the interior, footwell and boot lights
You always make it look so easy. Love the variety of content. I'm sure some of the content pairs with a 2011 XKR
I appreciate that! Thanks John. And yes there are plenty of parralels with the aluminium car
Yes my flap needs fixing. 😂. Great video John this is my next job. Happy new year to you 🎉🎉🎉
I had to perform this operation on my flappy flaps a while ago but I used glue. Still holding ok.
I have a 1998 XJR 4.0 supercharged I want to know why the controls on the steering wheel don't light up
I would imagine a Hot Glue gun would work instead of the soldering iron method.
As long as you can obtain glue sticks made of the same material👍
What is that part called? The one that has plastic cover and 2 screws under the cover that are screwed to the headliner, aeadboard.
I would call it the sunvisor foot or mountng bracket. Not sure what Jag call it though?
