- I worked for an accounting firm that did work for Hackett. I learned that he donated at least ⅓ of his income every year to 6 charities he loved, along with various other charitable organizations. He never talked about it, he just gave since he started regularly working Vegas. He rarely used swear words outside of during his act and public appearances. He did this until the end of his life.. He was a good guy and naturally funny. They say he had a very high I.Q., which startled me when I first heard that many years ago.
If you watched your father turn a stick-up man into an apprentice, you'd be giving half your money to charity also. That is the definition of setting an example for your kid. What an amazing story.
Gringo Louco you are very wrong. Many times I have seen people from a woman having stage 4 brain cancer praying to have her little son go to college after she dies to a man living in a basement with no job. Trump helped both of these people. Trump brought a suit down to give to the man for a job interview...which he got the job AND the woman died and Trump helped the son. The woman was Mexican and the man was African American. People call him names, but if they would only look what he does and does not tell people about. And FYI, I have worked with some of the richest and smartest people in the world...the real ones never tell you anything, they just listen.
My Dad was a Top MP at Camp Upton at the end of WWII. We were watching the thousands of German POWs working the Potato farms here on LI. Buddy was a funny , lovable man with a golden heart ! RIP
I want that clothing style to come back. I love tweed, polyester, and plaid. I will then grow out my pompadour again, and listen to disco music on my collection of 8-tracks.
During the Tonight Show episode aired the night of the 1969 Oscars, Johnny and Buddy predicted the winner of that night's Best Picture Oscar (Oliver!) and Best Supporting Actor (Jack Albertson). The Tonight Show was taped three hours before the broadcast (Tonight Show was in New York, Oscars were in Los Angeles) and Price Waterhouse investigated to see if there was a leak (and a couple folks got canned). Turned out that Johnny and Buddy was just taking guesses and hit right.
I am so thankful I am able to watch Johnny Carson reruns after all these years. It was his show I watched from the 70's until he retired. Now I'm retired and enjoy the shows just as much. I cannot stand the rude hateful talk shows on now. Corbert, Kimmel and Fallon are third class showmen. No humor or humanity.
You know, I really don't give a darn what this Buddy wore, I so enjoyed his approach. He seems to have been a very sentimental guy, with all the struggles. At the same time, I agree with you, Dog, the styles have changed. O'l Buddy was a slugger!!
I mentioned the ashtray in an earlier post. I read maybe 30 years ago that Buddy Hackett said he'd never give an interview to anyone who was smoking, but he was friends with Dean Martin, an inveterate smoker. Guess if he really liked somebody, he'd make exceptions.
Carson would openly smoke for years. When the 80s rolled around, he would only smoke during breaks (and the ashtray he used was hidden behind the desk away from the couch). Tony Randall would chide him on his smoking.
@@garyrasberryjr.552 I don't know if he was an activist, but I do know Tony Randall was virulently anti-smoking himself. Also, Johnny Carson himself said, concerning cigarettes "These things are killing me." And that was as early as the mid-70s. Turned out to be prophetic, as he died of emphysema. His younger brother said that during their last conversation that Johnny repeatedly said "Those damn cigarettes." He died 1-23-05; I'm posting 1-30-22, so he's been dead a wee bit over 17 years at this point.
Since Johnny left the Tonight Show, I have NEVER laughed watching it. Leno, not even a chuckle. I don't know who that clown on there now is, but if that is humor, I am glad to got rid of my TV.
Why have I been noticing lately that our way of inserting a calendar month then day then year is being twisted around to read day then month then year why
You can really see that Buddy was truly a beautiful soul behind all that jokes.
Yes, and he can sure tell a story
Go Buddy!
I love that story about his dad and the almost holdup guy.
I was expecting he would have said, then when the guy opened up his coat the dog jumped on him and bit him in the nuts. But no, a lovely story.

nalla t Probably very true... As opposed to Trump who claims he gives to this and that and doesn't give away anything and has a low IQ...
Gringo - ...or Hillery who claims to have helped many people through The Clinton Foundation when in reality only gives 5% of the money to charities.
I love Buddy Hackett. My husband has that same wonderful laugh.

This guy had the best freakin TV presence ever. So comfortable.
Wow! Check out the outfits! I luv it! It brings back good memories.
Holy shit Groucho Marx and buddy hackett!!! I would love to have seen the two together.
No so called "commedian" today can come close to the likes of Buddy Hackett. R.I.P Bud
Joey diaz but just sort of cuban
I agree
Loved him on Hollywood squares and the tonight show.
My Dad was a Top MP at Camp Upton at the end of WWII. We were watching the thousands of German POWs working the Potato farms here on LI. Buddy was a funny , lovable man with a golden heart ! RIP
we need to get back to this style of humor
You mean the funny style?
I want that clothing style to come back. I love tweed, polyester, and plaid. I will then grow out my pompadour again, and listen to disco music on my collection of 8-tracks.
Is there anyone funnier and more charismatic than Buddy Hackett?
Don Rickles
i miss Buddy.
I love buddy

I used to think the patient on Operation Game was modeled after Buddy Hackett.
All classy people up on that stage. In my mind, they are all alive and doing well. I'm alright with that.
Great story. I was born on 13th ave
Is that Doc Severinsen sitting on Buddy Hackett's right in the opening?

Fantastically x 10
Everyone thought wearing those clothes was a good idea.
You know, I really don't give a darn what this Buddy wore, I so enjoyed his approach. He seems to have been a very sentimental guy, with all the struggles. At the same time, I agree with you, Dog, the styles have changed. O'l Buddy was a slugger!!
Styles change.
People change.
Like now, when people think that ripped jeans, and pants hanging off their butts look good.

See the ashtray? People used to be allowed to smoke on TV and just about everywhere else. Messrs. Hackett and Carson will never be replaced.
Since Johnny left the Tonight Show, I have NEVER laughed watching it. Leno, not even a chuckle. I don't know who that clown on there now is, but if that is humor, I am glad to got rid of my TV.
Hi buddy Hackett
Now we know where prince got the idea from.
that was good. back in the day.
Why have I been noticing lately that our way of inserting a calendar month then day then year is being twisted around to read day then month then year why
Buddy looks like a Beatle.
Incidentally, I want some of Johnny's suits... Where do you find suits like those?
Johnny actually had his own line of outfits. Not sure who designed them but they came up with some dandy looks.
15:12 😢raw Buddy.
10:52 Buddy Hackett beatboxing.

The 70s clothing were kind of confusing,HAA
Clothing styles back then were weird !!
good god what were they wearing...
Great story
Who dresses these guys?
The 1970's.
dressers
Lol
I was 19 years old in 73....and no one I knew dressed like that....no one
The guy stole a career! IMHO
La mode vestimentaire dans les 70’s était tout simplement immonde…
So, he just took off all his clothes in the woods at the golf course? Not very funny.
Elmer Fudd lives.
Just what in the blue fuck was he wearing?!!?
Buddy looked like he had Downs Syndrome but he was funny.
