1:46 Probably the best call I've seen from an umpire all week As someone that umpires, this is a rule that fans constantly get wrong. Ruling for Deliberate Rushed Behinds: 18.11.2 subsection C: "has had time and space to dispose of the football; or". Subsection A talks about the 9 meter rule, however that is only once circumstance. What if it's a close game and you just run the full forward towards the 9 metres before stepping over to waste time and gain uncontested posession? If he was able to gather the ball, run further into the goal square, turn around and assess his options, he definitely had time and space to dispose of the football. Whether fans like it or not, that IS the rule, and the umpires don't write the rules they enforce them. I'm assuming this is something the UA has drilled into the umpires over the off-season, so I expect it to be called way more often.
Thought it was a weird call live but looking back on it I don't mind it... I mean what was toby doing? Huge brain fade by him and judging by his lack of reaction he wasn't overly surprised.
I know it’s hard for you being a “seasonal channel” but letting you know I’ve been looking forward to these mate! You’re doing a great job, keep it up!
Okay I’ll subscribe. Pretty much watched all of your vids last year. My oddity is that I thought the season started tomorrow, though I pretty much don’t watch tv, never read the Juuspaper nor listen to any commercial radio - and for good reason.
Wilmot call is 100% correct. There's nothing stopping you bumping a player that's within the vicinity of the ball. Bumping and shepparding players takes them out of the contest, that's the whole point.
Noah Anderson made a smart play to grab that ball and go but surely that’s an illegal disposal? Pretty sure we’ve seen that paid before when a teammate has ripped the ball away during a tackle and it’s been paid illegal disposal because there wasn’t a kick or handball and it wasn’t knocked out in the tackle…
@@albinoninja-9691it’s banter you flog. ik afl fans have short memories but we literally cheered the living shit out of him last year at those games he was at when he was on the big screen.
Don't see how the Wilmot one can be 50m. If he kicked the ball its a downfield free, but he handballed it. Umpire played it perfectly I thought, gave a free kick then advantage
They brought in a rule a while ago that if you hold a player after they've disposed the ball it can be 50, but I don't think it applies to bumps, just holding
Its the Garry Ablett rule, got the pies the win againts the crows last year. Basically its a tactic to take out the player so they cant continue the run, he would've gotten the handball off and another kick most likely gone inside 50 from that play. But since he got knocked down without the ball he cant, Ablett got targetted with that heaps hence the Garry Ablett rule
Rule 19.3 states "If a Player intentionally makes Prohibited Contact against an opposition Player who has disposed of the football for the purpose of preventing that Player from taking part in the next act of play, the field Umpire shall award a Free Kick and a Fifty Metre Penalty to that Player." So I think it should have been a 50m penalty in my opinion.
love the vids! Also if youre making a point about the commentary please let it play without talking over it first, just makes it easier to hear what youre talking about
7:45 Darcy Wilmont removed from play by Adam Cerra Is the problem that Cerra took Wilmont front-on? Would it have been a problem if Cerra was running slower in the same direction as Wilmont? Cerra with no arms out to shepard Wilmont? When I was younger I was taught just to get passively in the way of someone like Wilmont. Even those seconds of delay for Wilmont would have made him irrelevant. My memory can be cloudy but this happens often even when nobody means to. Here's hoping for 15k.
It's one of those obscure rules that hardly ever gets paid. I can only think of one other time in recent games where it happend. It's a 50m penalty by the book but an odd one
2:57 if you watch closely, you'll see the goal umpire stumble a bit. I suspect the grass was wet and he had to take his eyes off the ball for a few seconds, that's why he called for the review.
Hey mate, at around 7:52 when Wilmot got hit by Cerra after disposing of it. How is that a 50? Isn't it just downfield? since no free kick was happening so a 50 can just be rewarded in open play

I thought Lachie Whitfield forgetting the rule about standing on the mark was interesting. Bobby hill widened out on his run up to goal and Whitfield just kept shuffling across. The commentators just keep reiterating that he ‘simply forgot the rule’

7:50 how is wilmonts a 50 meter pentalty when theres no initial free kick to give 50 to, they pay a downfield free to the handball but then advantage..

The Wilmot one I thought can't be 50 cause it's only 50 off a mark or freekick. Since he had the ball and it was in play it's just a down field freekick which was paid and then advantage was called. At least that's what I thought the rules were
