Or Connor McDavid trade Tree in 10 years bitter Sabres fan right here do this trains going to happen but let's let's work on the Sam Reinhart trade tree first
I think there’s a clip of a reporter betting Kent he couldn’t hit the cross bar from the blue line or maybe center on 3 attempts he does it with ease on his first shot and kinda smirks and skates off it’s great
ua-cam.com/video/CQe1anhVLd8/v-deo.html Its at the end of the clip... Before that Gretzky, B Hull, Hawerchuck all spoke of him as one the most talanted players they´ve met. :)
Mr magic was his nickname and there was a reason for that. Insanely talented player who could embarrass any goalie. The 1994 Olympic gold medal shootout between CAN Vs SWE with the famous Forsberg one is copied from Nilsson from a WC hockey championship game back in 85 if I remember correctly. I say it again, Mr Magic.
As a life long flame fan I was born in cgy in 85 iginla was our best guy in the 90s glad he played most of his career here and his jersey retirement ceremony was special my two all time favourite flames will always be iginla and kipper
Kent Nilsson might be one of the most underrated players in NHL HISTORY. He had 131 points one season, the Flames franchise record. Back in the day Gretzky said Kent Nilsson was the most skilled player he ever played against. Nilsson also had 2 dominant years in the WHA & when Nilsson went to Edmonton, which was one of the weirdest things ever to see (think of Gretzky or Messier in a Flames jersey), Kent played on a line with Messier and Anderson which was one of the coolest and most talented lines in Oilers history
Trade trees are back!!! They are amazing and wonderful to watch. Always very informative and give a great history on the historic players involved and shows how much the league has changed in its history
I’m an oilers fan but iggy was and always will be my fav hockey player of all time. My idol growing up. Everything a hockey player should be on and off the ice! Thanks Steve!
Super excited for the Ryan O'Reilly trade tree; the second round pick that the Blues sent to the Sabres in 2021 changed hands 4 times before it got used so it should be a fun watch.
Kent Nilsson is also the original "Magic man" in the NHL, SUCH an underrated player. 131 points one year, 3rd in scoring only Gretzky and Marcel Dionne were higher that year
As a Stars fan, it would've been cool as hell to see Iginla as in a Stars jersey, but the Stars got a cup and Conn Smythe winner in that trade. So, I'd say both teams were winners there. I still have my Nieuwendyk signed Stars shirsey on my wall I've had since I was 6 when I got to meet him.
I suggest the Phil Esposito trade to Boston in 1968. I don't know how complex the tree would be, but the initial trade is one of the most ridiculously unbalanced trades ever.
@@rhaspados666 You're thinking of the trade of Barry Pederson from Boston to Vancouver for Cam Neely and a first-round pick. This trade is also one of the most lopsided in history. The pick was used to draft Glen Wesley. He was traded to Carolina for the pick to draft Sergei Samsonov, who was traded to Edmonton for the pick to get Milan Lucic.
probably my favourite non playing fact about Iginla is that he loved being in Boston so much he moved there and still lives there today There was even a moment of him on a Boston news report during a snowstorm and they did not even know who he was 😂
Very interesting trade tree with some huge NHL stars. One mistake you made though was Joe Nieuwendyk scored 51 goals in his fantastic rookie season, not 55. Kent Nilsson in the 87 playoffs was fantastic for Edmonton. He was so great that the only way The Flyers could slow him down in The Finals was Ron Hextall doing his Paul Bunyan imitation on Nilsson's leg. As for the Nieuwendyk/Iginla trade I remember that very well. (I'm 52 and remember things like this!) Dallas traded a top prospect (Iginla) for the current superstar they needed to help win The Cup (Nieuwendyk). Calgary was rebuilding and wanted young talent for old, which is what they got in abundance.
I know you did a Pronger trade tree, but that all started with Shanahan and Pronger. Blues trading Brendan Shanahan led to the Blues winning a Stanley Cup 14 years later. Shanahan for Pronger 1 for 1. Shanahan then went on to Detroit, Pronger went on to Edmonton which then gave the Blues Brewer who the Blues then used to get a 3rd round pick from Tampa Bay who turned out to be Jordan Binnington.
I've suggested the Brett Hull trade tree before, but I'll do it again because: -It's another Flames trade, albeit one that _didn't_ really pan out for them in the end; -Based on the players Calgary got, I'm pretty sure it would also involve the Doug Gilmour trade tree; -I think the initial trade would be a very good example of how a team can arguably both win _and_ lose a trade.
@@Dr.Frankensteen - Oh they absolutely did, but that's exactly my point and precisely why I think it would be an interesting trade tree: "We won... but at what cost?"
gilmour was the first piece acquired in '86. cliff fletcher wasn't afraid to make trades. Even if it cost him brett hull or trading gary leeman for gilmour.
@@mcj88 I mean winning the Cup is the ultimate prize. Yes they could have had another HOF player, but they got what they wanted. Your concept is an interesting one though so definitely points there. One of the bigger recent ones I can think of are the Bruins trading Blake Wheeler and Mark Stuart for Peverly and Valabik. Bruins gave up the best player by far yet got the result they wanted. Wheeler isn't a HOF player but it's notable.
I still remember when Aaron Ward announced on TSN Iginla has been traded to Boston, and then Iginla was actually traded to Pittsburgh like an hour later.
I was at the saddle dome catching a Hitmen game, they put the Boston deal up on the Big screen, then had to make an announcement later that it was changed.
Another odd fact was Nilsson was drafted TWICE by the Flames; first as Torbjorn Nilsson (NOT his name so the selection was invalid) and then as Kent Nilsson the next year higher up in the draft. Wayne Gretzky was very complementary about him in an interview about the most skilled players he had ever seen in the NHL. He still holds the team single season points and assist records for the Flames...over 30 years later.
Funny thing about Iggy not going to Boston in 2013? "I had NO IDEA how great of a player David Krejci was! Had I known I would've gone there." BUT, Iggy wasn't going to be playing with DK in 2013! He was going to play with Bergy & Marchand. Julian was NOT going to break up the DK, Horton & Lucic line barring an injury. So Jagr wouldn't have come to Boston to help the B's on another run. It would've been interesting to see Iggy with Bergeron & Marchand that year.
So I have a trade tree idea I researched up last night: How Trading Adam Foote at the '08 Deadline got them Adam Boqvist, Jake Bean, Cole Sillinger and the recent David Savard Deadline Deal to Tampa and the Seth Jones deal to Chicago are connected.
Joe Nieuwendyk didn't have 55 goals as a rookie like the video claims, he had 51 goals and fell 2 goals shy of tying Mike Bossy's rookie goal record of 53 goals. Temmu Selanne ended up beating Bossys record a few years later with 76 goals.
Do an Ales Hemsky trade tree, not just from when he was an Oiler, but how we got to the point of drafting him. That one's unique cause it involves Arnott, Guerin, Carter, etc.
Kent Nilsson was known as the "Magic Man" even Wayne Gretzky said he thought Gilbert Perreault was the most skillful player in the NHL, until he saw Kent Nilsson played!
It’s a downright crime that Nieuwendyk’s number hasn’t been retired by the Flames. The guy was by far one of the best players the Flames have ever drafted.
