I was thinking one day, it would be cool if they made a lower deck with windows beneath the ocean to view the underworld of the sea. Kind of like an aquarium.
You displayed perfect attitude, "I am now looking for fish"! Terrific sense of humor and a textbook example of how to weather a storm, no pun intended!
All that cracking and popping on the ship would make me shut the curtains, put on 2 life jackets, hang over the toliet and puke my guts out while praying in between.
Are you both kidding??? That would be SO FUN!!! I would watch it from my room and then I would go out to the Lido deck and watch, maybe ever to the front of the sports deck (outside)! I could probably even sleep if I wanted to, the movement would help me fall asleep.
Those sounds should be reassuring to you, the expansions joints are making the ship flex and move, riding the waves better. If you didn't have this, the ship would buckle and tear itself a part or be severely damaged in a storm like this. Those cracking sounds are the ship moving with the waves, that's how they are designed, and that's how you're cabin doesn't split open like an egg.
I realy dont know if I would be sick. But I would be fasinated,, and a tad nervous!!...That sea, would swallow you, the ship, and all trace of it. A bit scary to think how realy small we are.
+K. W. Churchill That is exactly why I love the open seas. Calm ones that is. The solitude really makes you reflect on how small we really are. Good for an ego check once in a while! lol
OP sounds like a good person to be around in that kind of a situation. Most people would probably act stressed and/or depressed & sick, not cheering the waves as they go by.
The footage of this cruise was simply amazing. The color of the sea is quite enchanting, exhilarating, and breathtaking.I wonder how the seamen fared during the age of sail, & endured the storms and waves of that era. Them lads must have been a hardy lot, to have weathered the ferocity and majesty of the world's oceans. I have the deepest of respect for them.
This lady has the coolest personality ever. She seems like the fun type haha beautiful and this is what I feared on my first cruise I honestly didn't think it could happen. This video proved me wrong lol thanks for sharing.
My husband and I have been on several cruises and we are going to Bermuda on Holland America in May. This video shows exactly what I feared the first time we cruised in an ocean view room. I told my husband that my fear was being in a storm, and having the waves come up over the window so we felt like we were under water. He laughed and said "Uh, that never happens on a big cruise ship Honey, you are being silly." When I get home I'm showing him this video to prove that yes, seas DO get rough enough for this to happen when you are on a cruise ship! The people in the video are very calm and I assume they lived to show the video and tell the tale, but I would have been totally freaked out. The power and unpredictability of the Oceans are amazing. But that doesn't stop me from loving cruising!
It amazes me how strong the ships are that thousands of gallons of water can be deflected off the sides of the hull. A mere 2000 gallon wave weighs about 14,000 pounds moving at 2-3 miles per hour. That's a lot of force...LOL
We were on that cruise from Baltimore, Md. The tv in our cabin actually fell off onto the floor. We were at lunch in the dining room when a huge wave hit us and glasses on tables on top floor began flying down and tables were moving everywhere. If it were not for another wave on the other side, we all truly believe we would have tipped over! Crew members were even saying "this is it". They were great though trying to make sure we were all ok....been on many cruises since then (5 last year) and we LOVE them..
I'm amazed at how calm you were through all of that! I got pretty frightened looking at this clip - and I'm not one that frightens easily!!! Never should have seen The Poseidon Adventure. Being that you obviously returned home unharmed, I thank you for posting. Oooo...so scary!
Funny you mention glass since this same cruise was hit up front by a rogue storm wave which broke the glass in a kid’s club and caused a fire when the seawater came into contact with a television.
Cruise ships are designed for passenger comfort, not stability. They have a high center of gravity that allows a smoother ride in rough seas. The down side is that in extremely rough seas, they are very top heavy and will roll more easily and the risk of capsizing is greater if the waves are not maneuvered properly.
Our cabin was on deck 1. The Storm started the evening before and had calmed down some when I took this video. There was a lot more up/down motion than side to side, the cables on the glass elevators were twanging and the elevators were swaying a lot. For a good look at what it looked like from the forward top side of the ship check out the you tube video Carnival Pride in the Atlantic November 2011. That video was taken by another passenger on the same ship same cruise as we were on.
I think this has to be my favorite cruise video...ever lol. I love turbulent seas when cruising... although not extremely turbulent lol. Now I know why there are no balconies on the Riviera deck! LOL Looking forward to the Pride in October :) Thanks for sharing your video!
+fckied I've seen some cruise ships with alcoves complete with sliding glass doors and patio furniture. Depends on the cruise line. I wouldn't want one! This video is not going to dissuade me from booking a trip but I'm NOT getting an alcove! No way. Oddly, some ships do have sliding porthole windows. I have no idea why they would install those instead of permanent portholes.
Oh come on, dont be this little bitch and Stop talking about my mother, she's been dead nearly 8 years The point is panic does not bring you anything, so make a bottle of wine up and watch a movie or fuck someone or everything together
I will NEVER take a cruise! Not just b/c of this, but b/c I like staying at my vacation destination and not have to worry about getting back on the ship by a certain time. Thanks for filming & posting this!
Was on the Princess Cruises Sapphire Princess during a huge storm while crossing Queen Charlotte Sound. 40-ft waves for about 20 hours straight. I'd say a good 70-80% of the people on the boat were incredible sea sick, even the crew. Luckily my family and I never got sick. We all spent a lot of time on boats so I guess we were somewhat immune to it. Still though, couldn't sleep because you would literally get thrown out of bed. Leaving for another cruise to mexico next week. Fingers crossed for good weather.
Hunter norwitch Guess its time for you to do little research before calling one a kid. Its called a tsunami which are usually 50 or higher. 100 footers are cause by earth quakes but some with such a smart skill set as you would know that
hahahah i love how calm you are doing this.. I can handle the waves myself.. surprized me actually.. I can only watch them for awhile though.. but i did appreciatel your video.. thx for sharing.. I think the ocean is wonderful and im sure hooked on cruising :) hagd ..
i have heard that term washing machine in the small town in Hawaii some surfers were saying its when you fall off in a swell and get cought in the washing machine am i right
+Dans Smith yes. If you fall into a swell it is terrifying. You have to make sure that you are past the break of the wave or you do get put in the "washing machine" lol. I call it being rubberbanded because thats what i feel like being slingshotted as a rubber band would feel like. Sometimes you are under water for up to about a minute because the tides pull and push you in every direction and pull you down to the sand on the bottom
i loved it. my partner and i loved sitting and standing infront of the window and stare out into the ocean. ahh. nothing like it. however there is a scary side and would not like to have a bad experience at sea either
9/12/13. WONDERFUL !!! I know a lot of people hate it when there is high seas, but for this formal Navy Cmdr., it calls me back to the seas. Great & fun to watch !!!
awwwww thatsss soo funnnny :D and youre guys was so lucky that got the cabin that far down on the boat i remeber i was on a trip like that with a cabin far down and it was like a washing machine i have never sleept s good in my life
I was on a cruise in February on the Carnival Pride and the waves went up to 25 feet! It was insane and we were delayed back to Maryland by like 6-7 hours
i remember my hysband and i sailed in similar conditions! we laid in bed with our life vest on and watched thise waves crazh and the sounds of the cabin cracking was too much to beat!
That would be a scary sensation, watching the waves covering your window! I've been on five cruises and I've found the water in the Carribean is the roughest.
I was thinking one day, it would be cool if they made a lower deck with windows beneath the ocean to view the underworld of the sea.
Kind of like an aquarium.
Haha saw a kids show called suite life on deck where they built one . When I was that age they were in a hotel.
Hahaha cool
Engine and generators are there
AdrianoCROST exactly
i was sleeping on deck two this is two level below the sea
You displayed perfect attitude, "I am now looking for fish"! Terrific sense of humor and a textbook example of how to weather a storm, no pun intended!
yeah
plaza
That pun was so intended.
Bravo for not freaking out and doing the "Oh my god we're gonna sink" stuff. Great video, thanks for sharing!
I yet to be on a cruise ship, but if the alarms aren't blaring, then should be nothing to worry about.
All that cracking and popping on the ship would make me shut the curtains, put on 2 life jackets, hang over the toliet and puke my guts out while praying in between.
Donna G Same here.:-(
Are you both kidding??? That would be SO FUN!!! I would watch it from my room and then I would go out to the Lido deck and watch, maybe ever to the front of the sports deck (outside)! I could probably even sleep if I wanted to, the movement would help me fall asleep.
Christmas Eve I agree :D
Donna G i have been In worse

Watching this gives me anxiety
The constant creaking would freak me out.
I realy dont know if I would be sick. But I would be fasinated,, and a tad nervous!!...That sea, would swallow you, the ship, and all trace of it. A bit scary to think how realy small we are.
The sea is truly mystifying and breath-taking.
+K. W. Churchill That is exactly why I love the open seas. Calm ones that is. The solitude really makes you reflect on how small we really are. Good for an ego check once in a while! lol
Its really isnt going to swallow the ship. Ships are buoyant, they can literally climb tsunamis
you have the best personality for these situations! beautiful colors vs. oh we're gonna die! :-)
OP sounds like a good person to be around in that kind of a situation. Most people would probably act stressed and/or depressed & sick, not cheering the waves as they go by.
i dont know what would scare me more the waves or the creaking
"Ocean view" cabin, indeed...
The footage of this cruise was simply amazing. Them lads must have been a hardy lot, to have weathered the ferocity and majesty of the world's oceans. I have the deepest of respect for them.
I have the same feelings in the coldest part of winter imagining how hardy my ancestors had to be to endure the cold winters in Eastern Europe.
I feel the same way Brave Men big respect for them

The microphone on the camera used for this video is incredible; very accurate sound reproduction.
She is having such a good time.. cool lady she is badass
After seeing this I still love cruising lol
That'd scare the everloving shit out of me
+Bryant Steury I'll save my scared-shitless for when the water stops being on the *other* side of the window.
lol
What a great, positive person this lady is!! I would have been terrified!! I was just watching this video.
lmao at 1:20 "I'm watching for fish now" xD
lmao indeed
Absolutely breathtaking. The ocean is a dangerous but peaceful, beautiful and mysterious giant
I think I saw a mermaid in that last one! lol Great video...I'm leaving for my first cruise in 7 days!
That would scare me! I love the excitement of the lady speaking... she's cute😊
I love the way you really enjoy nature and its power... it's simply beautiful! Lovely weather.
I'd only pee myself a few dozen times
That's nothing to me I live in Maine
I love this. I would book a cruise now if they could promise rough seas!
It kinda looked like there were a pair of legs When the last wave went over the window.......O _ O
Cloud 4shadowing - I went to 4:54 and watched it at least 20x then paused it- I thought it was but I think a human would be much smaller
😮
woah that scared me
I'm amazed at how calm you were through all of that! I got pretty frightened looking at this clip - and I'm not one that frightens easily!!! Never should have seen The Poseidon Adventure. Being that you obviously returned home unharmed, I thank you for posting. Oooo...so scary!
That glass must be very thick....
Funny you mention glass since this same cruise was hit up front by a rogue storm wave which broke the glass in a kid’s club and caused a fire when the seawater came into contact with a television.

J kK Isn't "a high center of gravity" and "top heavy" the same thing? How could having more weight higher make a smoother ride in rough seas?
Okay. I just booked a cruise and you have scared the DOOKIE out of me!!!!!
+tanham007 LOL! Well, it is YT, after all. I bet you have a great time on that cruise.
+ut000bs I hope so! It's my first cruise!!! EEEEEEEK!
+tanham007 if you need some cruise tips i can help you!!
i love how laid back the guy is.
Amazing. You guys are so calm!
The guy was like whatever big waves.. yawn...
That was beautiful. Thanks for sharing
I love big storms while on a cruise. Great video!!!
From what I can find this was during Tropical Storm Sean. Great video!
WOW!!!!!!
Thanks for sharing.....
Those waves were incredible!!!!!!
Omg.. I would have freaked out.. but at the same time it would have been cool.
I went on the pride like... 6 years ago and has a blast!
+m16chick same here, October 11th 2009 to the 18th
I loved when you said: " oh look the water is beautiful

And that is why you don't have balconies on lower decks....
There is cove balconies
I mean There are cove balconies
I had a 8th deck balcony on the miracle and salt would stick to this glass and I would lick it
+fckied I've seen some cruise ships with alcoves complete with sliding glass doors and patio furniture. Depends on the cruise line. I wouldn't want one! Cool dude, cool wife!
bad dog
***** got a buzz on no doubt
How use not freaking out?? Boy I would be crying and freaking dying!!
Same
Same
This is water, you have lived 9 months in it so relax
You can't go anywhere. Panicking literally does nothing but kill you faster. So why not make the most of it?
--- This is my philosophy.
Oh come on, dont be this little bitch and Stop talking about my mother, she's been dead nearly 8 years
The point is panic does not bring you anything, so make a bottle of wine up and watch a movie or fuck someone or everything together
I'm so glad you can laugh at this... I'd be projectile vomiting..
My wife would freak out! Thanks for sharing. Sailing on the Pride in a few days.
Incredible video. Reminds me of my Navy days. I can't believe you weren't throwing up!
That is so cool!!! Whenever I'm on a cruise with rough waves I jump down the stairs and it feels like zero gravity;) its so fun!!!
sound the diving bell!! dive!! dive!! 10 degrees down bubble!! steady as she goes!! LOL!!:)
outstanding!
hooyah!!
I'd be up on the deck in my raincoat! This looks super fun! 😁
I will NEVER take a cruise! Not just b/c of this, but b/c I like staying at my vacation destination and not have to worry about getting back on the ship by a certain time. Thanks for filming & posting this!

I love the color!!!!
At least you get a washing machine sea view
i have heard that term washing machine in the small town in Hawaii some surfers were saying its when you fall off in a swell and get cought in the washing machine am i right

after being in rougher sea ride like this in a much smaller boat i fell sick just watching this lol
9/12/13. WONDERFUL !!! I know a lot of people hate it when there is high seas, but for this formal Navy Cmdr., it calls me back to the seas. Great & fun to watch !!!

Went on freedom of the seas two yrs ago an same exact thing happen to me an I loved it
Man this scares me! haha on the cruises I go too im usually watching the wild waves above, very cool
I love watching the waves, really I do.
That would be a scary sensation, watching the waves covering your window! I've been on five cruises and I've found the water in the Carribean is the roughest.
Wow. Great video. A little bit scary, but such an amazing and beautiful view of the ocean waves : )
Never had waves like these! Have only had calm seas. Would be interesting to see what this would feel like!
I would probably be freaking out if I was on that cruise
We were also on the cruise. Other than a couple of scary times, it was incredible.
Hopefully when i go on a crusie again this happens! That would be so fucking awesome!
