Strongly considering this exact pack, but the final thing I need to know before pulling the trigger; Are there any lash points on the bottom, or otherwise, that lets you strap a bedroll to the pack? Ideally near the bottom.
Thx for posting a review of the FR Geologist Pack. It's definitely in the minority which can lead one to wonder if the pack is as popular as it seems. Don't misunderstand; it's a super pack. It's obvious you like it too since I believe you patted yours 41 times! Seriously, the only 2 minor drawbacks on its design (for me) are the leather shoulder straps & only one strap for the top flap. Using two 2" cotton webbing shoulder straps connected to double D rings would give nearly unlimited settings for optimal comfort rather than being limited to pre-punched leather. Using 2 or even 3 straps for the top closure would eliminate several possible problems arising from lateral exposure to contents when loaded to near-capacity. Still, It's what of the best packs available with its design - pricey, but how many backpacks out there come with a lifetime warranty?
Definitly agree with the cotton strap for more adjustability. It is a drawback. I am guilty of patting that bag haha, the canvas feels really nice to the touch.
I totally agree about installing D rings & 2" webbed shoulder straps. A simple amendment would make a huge difference. Style is one thing, but webbed shoulder straps & D rings wouldn't detract but enhance the pack's usefulness & comfort. I also wholly agree with adding a second or third strap for the pack's top flap. One strap as sold is very insufficient when the bag is filled. These items have prevented me & others from ordering the Geologist Pack. Frost River used to offer a Seven Bridges pack in 2 sizes that included these items, but alas, they discontinued it. I'm fortunate to have purchased one before that occurred. The Geologist Pack has a unique shape to it tho, making it more convenient in various circumstances over a taller pack. Should FR ever make available 2" webbed shoulder straps with D ring adjustment capabilities plus a second or third flap strap, the pack would expand its application & be nearly ideal for customers of various physiques.
Thanks for the video. I am also looking into getting one of these packs. Have you considered doing a load out video or posting a picture with it packed for an overnighter?
I have never tought about getting one. This was pretty much the size I needed. It probably is of great quality like all the frost river bags I handled.
@@CanadienWoodsman It arrived today. The usual Frost River quality in terms of material, workmanship, and design. But so much roomier than I expected. This is going to be my new grab-a-tarp-and-blanket getaway bag from now on. And those bridle leather straps are to die for. I had a Filson Rucksack for years that had similar straps, but it was a very cumbersome over-designed piece of equipment, make more for fashion than for use--although it stood up well. This is much simpler, lighter, and more elegant.
It's great to see a review on this pack. I haven't been able to find a review anywhere else. Nice set up!
Glad you appreciate it. I had the same problem when i was buying it as well.
Indiana jones vibes. Now the bag is actually used in the 5th movie
No way hahaha
Im kinda curious, you saw the bag in a trailer?

I did make a few picture if it loaded, pisted it on reddit. I shall look for it to post it again.
