  • Paul Jackson Jr. the legendary guitar player who has contributed his multi-faceted guitarisma to the biggest artists of pop,R&B, jazz and rock music: Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson (Thriller, Bad, History), Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, Randy Crawford, Ramsey Lewis, Dave Koz, David Benoit, Aretha Franklin, Luther Vandross, Bobby Brown, Steely Dan etc.. just to name a few, came to our studio to show us his recent infatuation, SP Compressor. As his nick name from the American Idol, "Doc" represents, his explanation and demonstration of the compressor is so comprehensive and practical. But when it comes to demo playing of three songs from his recent albums "Still Small Voice" and "Lay It Back" , he totally smoked the studio with his incredible fluency & precision. These are amazing footage you must see!!

There's no waste of motion on his fretboarding. Makes it looks like his fingers are moving so slow and yet all the fast notes are coming out beautifully.

I think PJ Jr. would be a great replacement for late and beloved Chuck Loeb in the group Fourplay.

Interesting octaving solo´s technique at 1:19. Once I heard Johnny Marr was inspired by this kind of technique and did the solo from "Shoplifter´s of the world " from the Smiths using it.

None or the slightest guitar neck relief and strings almost touching frets noted! Musical sophisticated awareness plus "Black"soul! Musical Chameleon who is reliable and likeable=well paid sideman! Entertainments are as political as what's going in the White House. Goodluck and get your own sounds and approaches like Paul in any genre! Transcribing doesnt do it..life experiences and awareness in any ares besides music helps. Old souls are born and do what they were destined to do. Many are young souls and imitators till the next cycle and then show increasing maturity in what they are destined to do.There's only 12 tones and afew basic chords that can be altered. Its up to us how to tell our own "stories" with tone all ours.

I think Mr. Jackson sound and style is not among the Benson-Brown-Powell. The reason is his tone to touch is a singing sound WITHOUT the scat, in the changes of the song itself he uses several passing tones and then comes back to the head of the song using a different scale of the chord which keep the mood moving. Mr. Jackson is " talent"
