It works well…the only problem that I have found is that then I do not have a rain jacket to put on in the middle of the night when nature calls. LOL!

I have this bivy which I use with the Paria 10x7x5 tapered tarp. I am very happy with it, but it has no where near the space you have with your setup. On the other hand, the smaller Paria tapered tarp have a smaller footprint, which is important for some of the places I squeeze into. I put up the tarp up first and then the bivy, which I attach to the tarp stakes with three elastic cords. I bought a cheap 10 x 15 tarp from Amazon. I wanted a tarp that allowed me to have doors. It was too heavy and difficult to set up. It was the primary reason I purchase the Passage 1 tent from REI. Simplicity!!!!!
Thanks Lee, it is a great setup. It has served me well over the last year. Thanks for watching. The price is right on these two items as well for under a 2 lb. shelter. ✌️
Appreciate ya! I love they setup. It has served me well. I may, at some point, switch to a Dyneema tarp with doors on this setup. But, I am good with what I have with the price. 🤣✌️

Nice job dude. I used the Paria 8x10 flat tarp for a couple seasons. Great tarp for the money. I'm curious, hows that setup handle some severe wind and rain?
Motivated By Mountains - Thanks! I have had it in a steady rain. But, not a “frog strangler” kind of rain. If there was a sideways wind and rain, could be a potential issue. I have thought about eventually replacing the tarp with either the “zpacks” tarp with doors, or the LiteAF one. That would stop all weather and actually be a few ounces lighter. I love that Paria bivy. It is roomy and well made. Thanks for watching. ✌️
Appreciate it! I love that setup, as you can probably tell. It is very versatile. With our without the tarp...either way. I’m good weather, no tarp. I have had no issues in the rain so far. I love it. Appreciate you always watching my videos. ✌️
Hey Paula! Yeah, this set up has served me well over the past year. I haven’t had it in a “frog strangler” type rain...🤣✌️. But, I have had it in a steady rain. No issues. The tarp is sold-nylon. So, yes, it dries fast. It is super light. Thanks for always watching. ✌️
Hey Brother! That's a sweet setup! Although I like my hammock setups, this would be a great alternative for ground setups. Who invited the wind? Darn wind always shows up when we're filming!! LoL Have a great one, be safe and healthy! ☺️🍅
THE NATUREMAN 🤣✌️. Yeah, that wind came out of no where, it was like it was out to get me...🤣✌️. Yeah, that setup is really one of my go to setups. You just can’t beat the price, and versatile...with or without the tarp in good weather, different configurations. With your hammock, you already have a tarp (probably with doors) to use for this setup, just add the bivy if you ever want to go to the ground. Appreciate you watching. ✌️
hikerekih - Hey! I love this setup. I have used it many times in the past year. In rain, it held up well, though I was not in a wind/rain combo, just a steady rain. I stayed dry. I use 6 stakes for the sides and obviously 2 stakes for the poles. I have no issues in southern terrain. But, I don’t hike out West or Northwest like you do. Your terrain may require longer stakes. I love the versatility of the setup. I’m good weather I don’t used the tarp, just the bivy to stargaze...Thank you for always watching. I really enjoyed your last video.,✌️
Lol Brad, there goes the ground tarp. Ok you used some rocks to hold it down, there ya go! Bathtub floor = the way to go! When I use to hike, thats all I would use. Looks like an awesome lightweight system man, cool cool video. Are you still using the sock to hold the stakes in lmao?
Walt Reven Jr - Oh yeah! I’m going to write “Walt” on that sock to honor the idea. It is in my bag. Yeah, I really like that setup. Super lightweight, and versatile. If there are stars out, just forgo the tarp. Works good in the rain... but, I haven’t had it in a real “frog strangler” rain. But, a steady rain. Great space for gear. And best of all, not that pricey...👍
Yea man is not a bad price at all, I plan on getting into backpacking again soon maybe. I was also looking at a small light snugpak tent, cant remember the darn model now eh whatever lol. LMAO at the sock, that is so epic cool! Keep up the great work with your videos and reviews brother! I highly enjoy them all. And please be safe, have a great week my friend
Neanderthal Outdoors - I was thinking the exact same thing. I have had it in rain, but, not a wind - sideways rain. If I could go back, I would have gotten the 10x10. When I bought it, the 8x10 was like 30% off. So, that is what I got. I do have the Warbonnet “Superfly” tarp with doors. If it looks like a heavy rain, I may just switch to that one. It is a 11 foot tarp. You always have the best comments. Thanks so much for making them. You know your stuff. 🤣✌️
Rayyan's kitchen - Awesome! That was quick. Thanks so much. I love this setup. There is such versatility in it. You can camp, when the weather is good, without the tarp. It makes backpacking enjoyable. Thanks for watching. ✌️
Yeah, I still have this tarp. I use it all the time with my bivy. It is a great setup. Best of luck. I subscribed to your channel. But, your comments are turned off, so, I I couldn’t leave a comment. Thanks for coming to my channel. Crow✌️
I like the set up but I'd want something a little bigger. I'm not a hiker so my camping is mostly car camping and I like my 8 x 10 A-Frame tent. If I don't want those items in the link, will it still help you if I buy something else?
24 ounces. 13 for the bivy and 11 for the tarp. The only thing I might change is getting a tarp with doors. I have the Warbonnet Superfly. I might substitute that in a heavy downfall of rain. But, I have had this setup in rain with no issues. How was the hike I missed? Y’all have a good time? ✌️
The Yarn Hag Ryan - Good question. The mesh does make it feel open. Plus, this tarp doesn’t have doors, so, I’m this setup, it is exposed to the elements. I prefer that to a tent. The tent usually, to me, feels claustrophobic. But, that is just a personal preference. I may eventually get a dyneema tarp with doors. But, dyneema is very expensive. This setup is very budget friendly. I appreciate you watching. I like your channel. I watched a couple of your videos. Great stuff. ✌️

With your hammock, you already have a tarp (probably with doors) to use for this setup, just add the bivy if you ever want to go to the ground. Appreciate you watching. ✌️
Interesting and informative presentation.
kurikokaleidoscope - Thanks so much! Loom forward to your next video. ✌️
Good vid as always.
Artist On The Road - Appreciate ya! Thanks for watching. ✌️
Place grommets in the corners of the tyvek (or more if needed). Only adds a couple ounces but soooooo worth it for the exact reason seen at 1:20 :)
Great idea! I was thinking about doing that. Thanks for watching it. Crow✌️
I can’t wait till it’s back in stock
So, they are out? Which one, the tarp or the breezy mesh bivy? I have seen the bivy sell out several times. Appreciate ya! Crow✌️
@@ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING both the mesh bivy and the mesh tent are sadly out of stock rn but you video really helped me into trying a cool new set up 😋
Awesome! Hope it comes in soon for ya! Crow✌️
looked good. Good job
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! Appreciate ya! ✌️
Looks comfy! Does it hold up well with strong wind?
hikerekih - Hey!
Good lightweight setup, another couple of feet length on the tarp would be beneficial. Thank you for your efforts and atvb to you.
First like and first comment 😊❤️🌹🌹😘😘😘😘
Rayyan's kitchen - Awesome! That was quick. Thanks so much. I love this setup. There is such versatility in it. You can camp, when the weather is good, without the tarp. It makes backpacking enjoyable. Thanks for watching. ✌️
Would like to see how you get in and out of the bivy under that tarp.
Ben Dover - Watch Part Three of the Pinhoti trip. It is pretty good room in there. ✌️
The bivy has a zipper on the top. There is a lineloc that you loosen to lower the bivy pitch and get out. It is a great setup.,✌️
Looking at getting the 10x10 Tarp to use with my bivy. Would you recommend it? Thanks for the post! Stay safe 🙏
Yeah, I still have this tarp. I use it all the time with my bivy. It is a great setup. Best of luck. I subscribed to your channel. But, your comments are turned off, so, I I couldn’t leave a comment. Thanks for coming to my channel. Crow✌️
@@ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING thanks brother I will have to fix that. Cheers 🍻
I may try to camping now hehehe
Craftstyle and cooking - Awesome, you will love it. ✌️
I like the set up but I'd want something a little bigger. I'm not a hiker so my camping is mostly car camping and I like my 8 x 10 A-Frame tent. If I don't want those items in the link, will it still help you if I buy something else?
Yes, as long as you start the search through my link, it will help my channel. You are very kind to ask that. Appreciate the support.
Hey Brad! Been considering a bivey with a tarp. Mainly for weight. What does the whole set up weigh w/o hiking poles?
Great upload
Hey Matt! Appreciate it. As you can tell, I’m passionate about my tarp and bivy setup...🤣✌️
Thanks for sharing.. Hope you had a good weekend... Full view Like 55. Be Safe..
Appreciate it Allen! Man, I love that setup. It has served me well over the past year. It is versatile and super light weight. Appreciate ya! Crow ✌️
thanks for sharing
Thank you! As you probably can tell, I am very passionate about my tarp and bivy setup. 🤣✌️. Appreciate you watching. ✌️
When you are in there do you feel Claustrophobic at all or does the mesh make it feel very open?
The Yarn Hag Ryan - Good question. The mesh does make it feel open. Plus, this tarp doesn’t have doors, so, I’m this setup, it is exposed to the elements. I prefer that to a tent. The tent usually, to me, feels claustrophobic. But, that is just a personal preference. I may eventually get a dyneema tarp with doors. But, dyneema is very expensive. This setup
is very budget friendly. I appreciate you watching. I like your channel. I watched a couple of your videos. Great stuff. ✌️
The Yarn Hag Ryan - by the way, thanks for watching my video. Most of my videos are hiking trips. I am jealous of your sewing skills. Very cool creations. ✌️

Try it in high winds.
Yeah, that can be an issue. I agree, that can cause some issues. Plus, if the wind/rain combo comes in...that can be bad. I mostly use it under moderate weather. But, I have had it in a few rain storms with little issues. Thanks for watching. Crow
@@ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING Enjoy been out. We are lucky to be able bodied to it.
