It’s actually ridiculous how this is literally my exact cpu + GPU on my first build. Upgraded to the R5 5600x and an RX 6700 XT just recently, but that initial combo had me set for 3 years at a great starting point.
Nice job. Not many reviewers show this end of the budget. I've been a budget builder for a long time and one of my daughter's is still using my old RX 570 8 GB card today and it games just fine. She's just upgraded from an old FX6300 to a Ryzen 5500 and it's a big difference. The 570 is still going strong but is going to be her next upgrade.
The RX 580 8GB was such a bargain when released. It can still play pretty much every game. Thanks for the likes, I have a benchmark channel if you want to check it out!

I know I'm too late for this one ..5 years late apparently I'm looking to build a PC with this combo can you tell how it's treating you with the new titles ?
For an intro to gaming I always will recommend used, especially from eBay used with buyer protection. I’ve gotten killer deals like an a320 motherboard for $30, a Ryzen 3 2300X for $40, and a used rx570 for around $60. This combo is a really good combination too, no real complaints tbh I just know people on a budget really want more for less and used for me is the best way to go as long as there’s buyer protection
Mad to see this recommendation in 2023 I recommend this exact set up a good few years ago as budget system mad that lower end has barely moved in last few years
I used to run this combination up until 2021... then got an rtx 3080 gaming laptop. RX580 is still super strong for 1080p in my opinion especially with FSR.
@@SharkButtholio laptop gaming > pc gaming. You can go and game everywhere, even in the go. And these new laptops have almost the same performance like PCs
provided you don't go for x4 lanes 4.0 GPUs such as the RX 6500, maybe even not the 66xx, which is unfortunate - that would require a b550/x570 board with a Zen 2 chip. Something like a used 2070/Ti/Super/3060 might be better but definitely a bit stretching it for 1080p, but granted, I'd argue the 2600x is still a great 1440p CPU for most games and would still take advantage of that GPU power. CPUs simply aren't the bottleneck unless you're going for over 100FPS in a lot of games
@@cldpt What do you mean the new amd cards require 4.0 x4 lanes, im pretty sure thats not the case and they are backwards compatible with old systems no problem, just lose like maybe 5% performance max in games.
Indeed nice to see you continuing to bring true budget gaming systems on your channel. The Rx 580 is the full on model as well not one of the cheaper prices new ones we are seeing on Amazon now, still a decent card but a cut down version.
This is the combo I started out on in 2020 except with a R5 3600. Very capable for a ton of games and the 580 was able to do very well in 1080p gaming. Thanks for the video. It's nice to see that my planned build are on the right direction. The AM4 platform really is a good thing for us poor people. Helps not waste pc components. I got a 3200g a320 8gb ram 512gb hdd and a 1600x900 monitor pre-built pc during the lock down for school and I already upgraded it with another 8gb ram, 120gb ssd for windows and a RX 580 8GB. I'll start my first job this April and this is my plan: a1080p monitor, a used R5 3600, another SSD then new mobo and new ram so that I can pass the original pre-built to my Lil bro.
This is almost exactly what my first gaming PC was. The only difference was my cpu was a Ryzen 7 2700, and I got it late 2018. I built my current PC late last 2022. Seeing how much it costs to build a decent system like this is amazing to be honest.
I had a ryzen 1600 and rx 570 8 gig since late 2019. Half a year ago i upgraded cpu to the ryzen 5500, and oh god, it improved my experience a lot. rx 570 is still doing great!
Ryzen 3600 and RX580 is what my other half got in 2019. I got a 3600 and 5700XT that I already had. The RX580 8GB is still a great GPU. That was the version to buy and could be had new for around £160 at the time. Mid-range cards are now over £300. :(

Don't forget the "50" AMD cards... The 6650 XT and 6750 XT are usually $50 cheaper than the 6700 and 6800 cards and almost match them in benchmarks. I've been eyeing the 6650 XT at $290 on amazon lately and will recommend to anyone building a $900ish PC. A new 580 on amazon is only about $20-50 cheaper. Even on a budget, the price difference for performance doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
I've still got my ex-mining Rx 580 sapphire nitro+ 8gb I bought after the first crypto crash. It's a solid card and when I upgraded to an Rtx 3080 last year my son got an upgrade to his 1030.

FYI if you want competitive settings for WZ2 balanced preset is a good start, but most players also set a higher POV with 100-110 generally thought of as a sweet spot. This will affect FPS as its more taxing on the GPU, perhaps you can try showing us this next time you do a WZ2 benchmark
This was literally my first PC Build back in 2018. I loved it and it performed well at 1080p. I still have my 580 and probably will hold onto it and keep it on my shelf.
The video is 8 months old at this point in time, but smart move going with AM4. At some point when the 5800X3D drops in price that it will be an absolute massive performance update. It is sad it took so long for the RX580 to drop back in pre mid 2019 prices again. I bought my RX580 for my old PC in early february of 2019 for 100$. It was an amazing price back then, and made all the difference in the world compared to my dying radeon 7970 at the time on my old FX8350 system. In fact I used it 9 months into my Ryzen 5800X build from December 2020 to August 2021 before I finally got a 6800XT. The Rx580 was such as fine card.
ahhh. The good ol r5 2600 and RX580. I have a 480 and although my main pc is far far better. I still love that thing. It's crazy to see it still playing games decently well to this day.
Thanks for many helpful and enjoyable videos and this video; I know, our currency is unfortunately invaluable compared to other currencies (especially, pound, dollar, euro etc.), our country's has a awkward economy these days, anyway greetings from Turkey. Good work 🎉
Great video. Testing hardware combinations that suit lower budgets is a terrific idea. I recently added a GTX 970 to my nephew's old FM2+ system, with an A10 7700K and 16gb RAM. With an extra fan and new disk it works well, despite that CPU. I could see your B450 and the Ryzen being the next cost conscious upgrade.
I still use this set up that I cobbled together back in 2020 during all the shortages. I did upgrade the RX480 to an RX 6600, and it runs about twice as good and much cooler and more power efficient than the 480, but the 2600 is still going strong in my system.
Honestly for budget PC gaming I can kind of recommend the Steam Deck as well. Just a $400 piece of hardware and a solid sd card for a few bucks and you can run so many games for such a low amount of money.
Nice. This is almost the same exact setup I have. Got the 2600x on Ebay for $85 and an 8gb RX580 for $90 right before the pandemic started and still using it to play current games like Lost Ark, the Diablo 4 beta, Tekken 7, Street Fighter 5 all with no issues.
Ahh...the exact build I did moving from an i7-2600K (4.5Ghz all-core OC) + GTX 570 2.5GB EVGA model. I will always be fond of the R5 2600 and RX 580 8GB. They allowed me to enjoy PC gaming for the first time in a way that didn't totally suck from Q1 2020 moving forward. I had that 2600 OC'ed to 4.1Ghz all-core @ 1.31v, and it often scored higher than most stock 2600x/2700x single core scores with max temps around 60-65c. The 580 was a Sapphire Pulse model that I had OC'ed to 1450Mhz core and 2200Mhz mem. Paired with 16GB of RAM @ 3433Mhz, I pushed that system to its absolute limit (well, on air cooling anyways lol). I've since upgraded from the 2600 and RX 580 to the 5600 + 3060 Ti, but I'm still using that B450 Tomahawk. It's reliable as hell, and has fortunately received BIOS updates to support basically all AM4 CPUs out there. As well as fixes for USB devices on Windows (...mostly). I also do have 32GB of RAM now, since 16GB seemed to be almost maxed out with games like GoW (2018) on PC, Dead Space Remake, or various MC mod packs based on Java. I'm sure there are other titles I've played that have definitely pushed the 13-14GB threshold, but I can't remember them off the top of my head. It just sucks that newer/recent games aren't optimized very well so the immediate solution for most people is just to "upgrade" or build a new PC entirely...
Good to see Deathloop back in the mix. The game is very heavy on the VRAM, I've seen it creep it's way up to 16GB. It would probably keep going up if I had more. Having said that, I've been testing a RX 550 2GB and made a video on it, and it runs... kind of...
Rockin' this exact combo to this day, I would not feel the need to upgrade the whole setup even now, but it tingles me to move from 1080p 144hz to 1440p 144hz. Nevertheless - still a killer combo for modern day titles.
In 2019 I had just about the same combo, B450 and 16GB RAM, BUT it was the first ever PC I was building and I knew nothing about overclocking and safety with those things. I've heard that overclocked RX 580 is basically RX 590 and that overclocked 2600 is basically 2600X - and that's what I got. So from where I was standing, that combo is still the best combo a money can buy for that price. RX 580 and 2600 are THE COMBO to get on a tight budget, just familiarize yourself with safe overclocking for that oh so sweet free boost.
I'm glad you reviewed this combo. I have an RX 580 and I need to upgrade my i5 4590 because it's pretty much 100% on most AAA games but I have a very tight budget. And also in dota 2 at ultra, my cpu is 70-100% and my gpu is just chillin and the frame rate drops to mid 40's during team fights.
Am4 will probably be your friend. It has some pretty cheap motherboard cpu combos, but with a solid upgrade path. If its a decent mobo you could go all the way up to a 5800x3d when they get cheaper used.
@@aboveaveragebayleaf9216 I have an i7 4790k and ive just got an RTX 2070 fairly cheap, im not sure where to go from here with my budget also being tight, got my eye on a strix b450-f mobo, was looking at the ryzen 2700x but apparently it would be more of a sidestep than upgrade, but would better support the 2070, im kinda lost with AMD now lol.
@DJ LECORE yeah the 2nd gen ryzen didn't really have that bump in IPC yet. Idk what the local used market is like around you, but I'd keep on the lookout for a 3000 series, or 5000 series ryzen used. I've seen ryzen 5 3600x going for $75 locally.
I have been using nearly the exact build before the whole covid thing happened. I have a 3500x with Rx 580, still gives me 60 fps at nearly all the major titles at medium 1080p. I'm planning on upgrading to a Rx 6700 soon.
Back at the very end of 2018, I built a very similarly configured system, just with a 2600x instead of a 2600, so same CPU, just a slightly higher stock clock. The system still works very well.
i have been following your uploads for some time, I really like your videos, I'm currently playing on an i3-10100 and 1060 3gb version, i can play most of the games no problem, up to 1080p of course, i have been playing on an old syncmaster for the last 5-6 months so i dont really need parts at all :D :D, I have built a pc for my girlfriend with a 2200g overclocked with 2 gb of overclocked ram assinged no gpu at all, there is something really special about playing games on dodgy configurations, theres definetly a stronger bond between you and your rig that way, newer games are released in such bad states it doesnt matter what kind of a pc you have either way! Keep up the good work man! P.S. I really believe CRT is the way to go if you cannot afford a high end pc, I only use it to play games so i got that mental divide between work and playing as a bonus
Never thought of and considered this combo. I have a i7-2600 (old optiplex) and a GTX 1070, so a worse CPU but slightly better GPU then the one in this scenario. And wow do your FPS numbers look much, much better then mine do. While the "stick a gpu into an optiplex" thing is still pretty decent, people really need to keep in mind which CPU they're getting when they make these budget builds.
im still using my RX 580 Devil version ive had it for 6 or 7 years i upgraded the cpu from an fx 8350 to a ryzen 5600 and i get about 105 FPS in the witcher 3 at 1080p..... AMD has solid performance for the price and super good upgrades. eventually ill get a 3070 or a 4060ti when prices come down and if i ever want a faster cpu theres always the 5800 X3D down the line. but really i dont need to upgrade at all at the moment

My brother and I can confirm this choice. He has a 3000 series Ryzen and the same MSI RX 580 8GB Armor OC I did before I gave my rig to a buddy so we could play together. You might have to tinker with settings but that combo can still rule the roost.
These CPU & GPUs can be had 2nd hand for quite cheap. You potentially could build a whole working system (so incl. windows) like this for little over 200 quid if you're patient (and a bit lucky). It's a sport to me getting the best parts for as little money as possible.

The 1600 AF, (if you could get it for $85-$100) and 2600($120) were selling like hot cakes paired with the venerable RX 580$(100). For a tiny bit more around $140, the 3600 was a step up that time.
I've got a Ryzen 5 3600, RX540 4GB and 16GBs of RAM. Honestly this combo does everything I need it to do. I find the RX 6650 XT currently the best low budget choice, maybe in combo with a Ryzen 5 4600G which are being sold new for less than 100 bucks in my country. And yes, AM4 all the way.
I agree with your recommendation, running b450,2600x,rx580(8gb),2x 8gb (3200mhz), m.2 500gb boot, 250g,500gb,2tb HDDS, CPU (44c idle) @ stock, GPU (27c idle) @ undervolted, overclocked, custom fan curve, +40% PWR, using a 4:3 75hz monitor, so I lock at 72fps, fantastic performance. PUBG @ max settings runs silky smooth on win11.
That's actually a nice decent setup if you're on a budget, though if your budget can stretch that far, I'd go for a 3rd gen Ryzen (like a 3600) as well as 32GB RAM. When you start multitasking (i.e. streaming at the same time, etc) then 16GB will get consumed quite quickly. In fact, the next build that I make won't even have 32GB RAM. I also note how you've avoided 1st gen Ryzen's, like the Ryzen 5 1600 (which I remember you reviewing on this channel). Why Microsoft thought that the R5 1600 wasn't suitable for Windows 11, I will never know, though if push came to shove, I'd just crowbar W11 on by bypassing the CPU checks.

This combo is a really good combination too, no real complaints tbh I just know people on a budget really want more for less and used for me is the best way to go as long as there’s buyer protection

Yeah exactly
provided you don't go for x4 lanes 4.0 GPUs such as the RX 6500, maybe even not the 66xx, which is unfortunate - that would require a b550/x570 board with a Zen 2 chip.
@@cldpt What might be the highest GPU for a 2600 without the CPU bottlenecking too much? Assuming 1440p with at least 60fps on AAA titles.

This is the combo I started out on in 2020 except with a R5 3600. Very capable for a ton of games and the 580 was able to do very well in 1080p gaming.

Very nice. Ive definitely seen more 3600, and 5600 cpus hitting the used market for good prices though.
Ahhh darn! Almost matches my current setup, a ryzen 5 1600 and rx580 at 1080p it's a great machine

Honestly for budget PC gaming I can kind of recommend the Steam Deck as well. Just a $400 piece of hardware and a solid sd card for a few bucks and you can run so many games for such a low amount of money.
I saw yesterday an AMD 5 3600 cpu going on for 60 euros on used market. It was sold in a matter of 2 hours :)
This is the literal CPU and GPU I used in a computer I built my son a month ago. I went with 32gb of RAM and a B550 mother board. He loves it
Ahh...the exact build I did moving from an i7-2600K (4.5Ghz all-core OC) + GTX 570 2.5GB EVGA model.
Having said that, I've been testing a RX 550 2GB and made a video on it, and it runs... kind of...
Basically my first upgrade after my FX system. R5 2600, 8gb RX 580, and a strix B350 absolutely loved it.
Rockin' this exact combo to this day, I would not feel the need to upgrade the whole setup even now, but it tingles me to move from 1080p 144hz to 1440p 144hz. Nevertheless - still a killer combo for modern day titles.
yea 1440p 144hz will be my next upgrade aswell, rocking a 3600 and a 1070ti, lets see how well they manage.
The droplets in the intro really twig my tech dampness paranoia.
I've had this EXACT SAME configuration for about 2 years now. I can attest, it works great.

PUBG @ max settings runs silky smooth on win11.
My son's computer was built in 2020 before prices spiked. He has the 2600x and RX580 8GB. Pairs great with his 1080p 144hz freesync monitor.
First generation Ryzen wasn't suitable for Windows 11 because firs gen Ryzen doesn't support MBEC (Mode Based Execution Control) unlike Ryzen 2 on up.

1650Super instead of 580 works as well. It can play games like Fc 5 at 1080p Maxed 60 fps+ ezpz
Rocking that same set up. I just updated to a RX 580 ARMOR 8G OC, replacing my problem prone Sapphire Nitro+ 470 OC. It had a custom BIOS that that could get temperamental.
I found a certified Ebay-refurbished PC for a friend for exactly $400 (USD) that contained a Ryzen 5 2600, 16GB 3200MHz RAM, an RTX 2060 (I believe it was a GIGABYTE dual-fan model), a 512GB SSD and a 650-watt Gold-rated EVGA power-supply. Came with a 1-year warranty and everything!
So far it's been playing every game they've thrown at it -they've officially been converted from consoles lol. I bet you could find some similar value whole-systems for future videos under the official Ebay-refurbished umbrella ;)
Running a 2600x with a 2060!!! Have built many AM4 systems out of cheap parts, these have been the best to go to for about 2 years now.
Commenting this in the hopes to depreciate the price of the 3600 series.
