  • "This is our most popular tape. We follow three of Canada's most famous steam locomotives, The Royal Hudson, CNR 6060, and CPR 3716 on a 5 day doubleheaded adventure from Vancouver, B.C. to Jasper, Alberta. Includes spectacular scenery, two derailments, lift, swing, timber and trestle bridges, plus BCR's longest, highest trestle at deep creek."
"An incredible 5 day adventure beneath the snow-capped peaks of Canada's magnificent Rocky Mountains. Includes lift, swing, timber and trestle bridges, CN crane rerailing derailed coach in downpour, double runby at BCR's longest, highest trestle at Deep Creek, rerailing Hudson and Vanderbilt at Kamloops, exceptional high speed pacing, engine repairs on the mainline, and sunlit engine closeups at Jasper. Taped in October, 1988. Vancouver - Prince George - Lillooet."

Gotta give major props to Al Broadfoot for going above and beyond by manually operating the 3716’s lubricator linkage to Williams Lake. That had to take nerves of steel.

It's too bad that HD hadn't been around during the time of this video!
Imagine this in 4k...or 12k, someday.

I beg to differ slighly about the 6060 continuing to Prince George.
The prime purpose of the trip WAS to bring 6060 back to Jasper, after her stint at Steamexpo 88, and a few doubleheaders with 2860; replacing her on one trip documented here
I still have the blue sign-up sheet for the trip, and there was no mention that she would go to Prince George and back; the trip called for 2860 to meet 3716 at PG, and from there, steam south with an overnight at 100-Mile House.

There just something about steam engines.
Was steam engines made to improve the way we travel goods and people? Or to show how we can make a living being out of iron with bare hands?
Steam may not be good for the planet, but it is such a amazing form of craftsmanship.

This is Canada’s best steam excursion I wish this trip was given a second chance but unfortunately for the foreseeable future there’s no chance in hell of this happening again because CNs bullshit no steam policy

No Steam Policy? When was that put into place? Also, I there is the alternative in CPR Routes if someone wants to do this excursion agian.

I also videoed the portion st Jasper in its entirity, from the nightlu arrival; from a platform above the crowd set by CBC TV, who invited me; to the 2860 departure later that morning, taken a ways down the track, with no one around.
20 minutes of lots of whistle activation by both locos; oodles and oodles of steam and lots of bell clanging, all live.
It can be found right here on UA-cam; listed as: "CN 6060 & BCR 2860 TOGETHER FOR THE LAST TIME JASPER 1988"
