Finally! Someone who actually calls out Lionel’s lack luster QC/attention to basic detail. Great work, need more reviewers to do this!

Thank you. The objective of our reviews is and always will be to produce the most honest and helpful reviews possible. We will be diving into the center rail pickup roller issue more in the long-term review, as we explore the issue and possible fixes in more detail. Chances are we'll also put a third video together after the long-term review, focused on repairing the shortcomings of these models, both operational and cosmetic.

First time seeing the M&H mogul, very disappointing, thanks for the honest review

I waa considering the M&H engine. Now that I see it, I'm going to save my money.

Another thing my dad caught was the wheel spacing. The middle drivers on 89 are slightly off center. But, as you said this is a B&M model dressed up in CN/SRC paint so that makes some more sense.

Yes, there were a lot of inaccuracies for the E10a models. I didn't note most of them, as I felt it'd be unrealistic to expect Lionel to change them, so I only took note of the ones they could have fixed easily/affordably without all new tooling. The B-15 models have the wrong driver spacing, yes, and boiler diameter is a bit off, wrong pistons (Slide valves, when E10as have Piston valves) Wrong air compressor. (Cross compound, E10as do not have cross compound. Walkway along the fireman's side is clearly not an E10a walkway. Dynamo location is incorrect for an E10a. No grab iron on the front of the smokebox. - Just to name a few of the inaccuracies of these models for the E10a class. But these all issues I'm willing to overlook for a review when changing those items would be so expensive, both for Lionel and the consumer.

@@dynamoscale I completely agree. Lionel is making die-cast models that have a lot of overhead costs for tooling. I don’t expect them to get everything right. They are working with what they have. I think the difference in thinking (with things that can be easily changed) is that Lionel used to make mostly toy trains. They still do of course, even these “scale” models are toys when one boils it down. I think of this story from 1979. Lionel made a Santa Fe hudson for the Famous American Railroad series but gave it a PRR style tender. Lionel had tooling for a correct Santa Fe tender but chose not to use it because, “the PRR tender is our top of the line tender so we know it’s not correct but a top line engine should have the top line tender.” We aren’t dealing with that here though. If Lionel wants to make scale models and charge scale model prices then the details that they can get correct should be correct. Large tooling changes are understandably left alone as you said.
