There is also this cool level where you suck up the junk from the ocean and beaches to save the turtles. A prime example where people can learn a lot about sustainability and wildlife conservation from a videogame and it flows so natural. When a game fires on all cylinders with every level and boss its tough to say which things stand out the most so I had to actually think about this one. My fav abilities are the metal armor suit where you turn into a ball (Metroid Prime vibes) and it feels super satisfying blowing up vacuum enemies and those mini volcano dudes where you can blow them up and getting insane sensory overload haptic feedback from the Dualsense. I also love the boxing gloves. As for main bosses they are all incredible but the 2 standouts are the octopus and chameleon. My fav miniboses are the Djinie (especially the 2nd time you fight him on the ice platform), flaming pirate, and mecha Trex (horizon level). My fav challenge levels are the ones where you roll on the armadillo ball. Getting the haptics as you roll on those spikes feels insanely good. And as for main levels all were great but the Halloween level where you freeze time and have to traverse all those spinning projectiles was a big standout along with the Djinie level. But yeah the mouse level blew me away too seeing the seamless transition from big to small and how the environment around you scales instantly seamlessly. From a raw technic standpoint the physics engine and that scalable size transition in the mouse level impressed me the most. This is the shit you simply cant get from a multiplat game on console Didnt think we would get a 3D platformer to compete with the Crash 4 masterpiece but Asobi went Beyond! This is not even including the FREE DLC we will get later this year! If I had to pick my # 1 fav moment in this game it will have to be the legendary PS1 bootup sound in the final mission. I got goosebumps all over and super emotional almost teared up which I very rarely do. Can't wait for the DLC and sequel and hopefully we see a new 3D platformer IP from this team or even a Puppeteer remake which is one of the most underated games in existence that desperately needs to come back. An incredible adventure that sadly bombed in sales which spelled the end of Japan Studio but at least most of them are back under Asobi now. Seeing bots of underated Playstation NPCs like the girl that helps you level up in Demon's Souls was also great to see
Bronhas to juggle around English, Japanese, and French regularly inside his mind as well. Makes it all the more impressive how he's able to still sound so clear when he's doing interviews imo.
I really hope they don't turn this into a Lego type thing but in astro form. Also I missed the cool suits they gave you in playroom and was bummed they didn't have any of them in this one. The ball suit with the pinball style levels were a highlight for me in playroom.
I agree. If anything I would rather them focus on entirely original levels becuase those are better than playing what are essentially baby versions of other games.
As much as the VIP levels are really fun to boil down AstroBots future to be VIP BOT missions would be such a disservice to team Asobi. Don’t get me wrong they are super fun for a burst of ‘member berries’ nostalgia. But the actual stand alone levels Team Asobi made for this game are INCREDIBLE. The fact that almost every level has a mechanic that not only is something new and creative that I haven’t already done in a Nintendo platformer, but could have had an entire game based off of each of those mechanics. IMO Team Asobi and the Japan studios team are more creative and special than all of Sonys other studios. That’s no slight because all of Sonys studios are top tier. But Asobi not only maybe out God of Wared Santa Monica, out Horizoned Guerilla, and on top of that made a platformer level where you are a sponge and now I want an entire platformer based around a sponge not named Bob. Team Asobi needs to be regarded as royalty and be allowed to expand any idea they come up with. Not just make a Nostalgia ‘member berry’ game.
I am predominantly an Xbox guy, I have to say i enjoyed Astro Bot a TON. Probably Top 3 game of this year to me, minimum top 5. 9/10 easily, platinum trophy 🏆
I really enjoyed this game. It took me back when I was younger playing Mario 64. One of the only negatives I can think of was that the mouse ears were only used in one level. I loved that level I wished they had a few more levels using that. They used the dog and chicken a lot. I hope there’s DLC and there’s a level with the mouse ears.
Really impressive interview by Bless and Roger 👏 Genuinely one of the best dev interviews I've seen in a LONG time. Great questions and chemistry. I'd love to see more of these in-depth dev interviews from KF!
I played the whole game with my 3 year old daughter which was awesome. She got quite upset when astro went at the end, but alas he was saved. Did think it would be a cool sequel set up playing as the other bots to rescue him.
The second I saw Raziel and he did the world change move I was so happy and sad that we will never see a new game or remake on this soul reaver. And the devil dice memories
Amazingly enjoyable game. Cant believe you didnt mention Rescue Mission at all to Doucet, talking like it doesnt exist only mentioning Playroom and the new game. I hope anyone at KF that hasnt played it goes back and does(i know its on very outdated hardware).
Great interview, Bless and Rog! Makes me want to go work for Team Asobi...I wonder if they have any use for a guy who graduated college almost 15 yearsgo with a creative writing degree that has never been used and instead has worked in the service and municipal government industries. AHEM ANYWAY. I wonder if any if the Astrobot cameos will reignite interest in older IP or import Japanese IPs, like how Smash Bros introduced a lot of people to Fire Emblem, Earthbound and others. I certainly was interested in Alundra, Arc the Lad and Boku no Natsuyasumi!
It would be cool if they did have a lore explainer of the characters they reference. Similar to what Gran Turismo 7 does with the cars in the game and their history. For the second game I think a coop Astro bot game could be fun and add some fun mechanics.
I hope Greg is wrong with his idea for what the next game will be. The levels based around other games were fun, but I dont want an entire sequel based around them. The best thing about this game was the creativity within the level design, and those "homage" levels were nowhere near the best example of that stuff. In fact, ignoring nostalgia, those levels are probably the worst in the game, so having an entire title based around them would be kinda disapointing IMO.
agreed, i think the PS stuff being the hook of this game was great, but i’m excited for them to expand the IP beyond being a sony hype machine and let it stand on its own, it might be the only thing holding it back from being iconic.
If MediEvil 2 was to be resurrected from the grave again I feel it will be in great hands at Asobi's studio. Other Ocean did a great job with the original remake but I would have way more faith in Asobi as they are a 1st party studio with more support from sony
I'm amused that these lovely folks can say Sony should not invest in their legacy IP and also say be unsure about what future games PlayStation puts out when their focus has been the same narrative AAA action adventure games that take 5+ years to make or unproven live service games. Astro Bot has set the standard that this studio's development philosophies should be seen in other first party project investments. I would prefer the future of PlayStation see not just more Astro, but the return of smaller legacy IP getting new games. Just look at Nintendo's IP support and the success they've seen from their history. We should get a new Jak and Daxter or Sly Cooper damnit, it doesn't even need to be Naughty Dog or Sucker Punch but Sony should definitely use their legacy IP in bigger ways just as Astro Bot will be bigger than the cameos it has.
Don't think they should keep going all out with Playstation VIP stuff if they can't come up with a new spin on how its integrated. What they should do though is expand Astro's base mobility - and he gets a slight in-universe upgrade to his moveset and appearance. They did a good job designing around just a jump + hover in this game but it did feel repetitive by the halfway point for me
I just wanted to say, that Roger was right about the balls thing. It's because you have some of the same types of cells or something in your balls that you do in your mouth. But you can absolutely not taste with your balls for the record
There is also this cool level where you suck up the junk from the ocean and beaches to save the turtles. A prime example where people can learn a lot about sustainability and wildlife conservation from a videogame and it flows so natural.

Just got the platinum today. Astro Bot is incredible and makes me want to just play more platformers in general
I hope it’s selling like crazy
I love hearing that they would make more games rather than larger games if they (Team Asobi) built a bigger studio.
loved the dev interview. he was so well spoken and it's always great being able to so easily see how passionate he is about astrobot
Bronhas to juggle around English, Japanese, and French regularly inside his mind as well.
Makes it all the more impressive how he's able to still sound so clear when he's doing interviews imo.
I dont agree with Greg, the LocoRoco level made me audibly say "wow" its def something i looked forward to (VIP levels)
I really hope they don't turn this into a Lego type thing but in astro form. Also I missed the cool suits they gave you in playroom and was bummed they didn't have any of them in this one. The ball suit with the pinball style levels were a highlight for me in playroom.

I want an entire Astro Bot spin off game centered around the slowing time ability
I am predominantly an Xbox guy, I have to say i enjoyed Astro Bot a TON. Probably Top 3 game of this year to me, minimum top 5. 9/10 easily, platinum trophy 🏆

Came here for family friendly Astro talk. 💙
5 mins in - "Dipping your balls in Soy Sauce"! 😅
THIS GAME IS PEAK I WANT THE DLC NOW AHHHHH
The day/night level was my favorite. So many possibilities there if they expanded it.
The best song to me is that Crash-esque level and the best level design is probably that day and night level.
Just beat the game and got the platinum. What a goddamn good time. The platinum also says "See you at Astro's next adventure" 👀
Great episode as always! I POPPED OFF for Mister Mosquito and Samonosuke in Astro Bot along with The Prince of the Cosmos
The bird boss was by far my favorite boss.
Just finished the game. Definitely a 10 for me. Such a fun, polished game. Even the end credits were a blast. Also, great interview with the studio!
Really impressive interview by Bless and Roger 👏
Genuinely one of the best dev interviews I've seen in a LONG time. Great questions and chemistry.
I'd love to see more of these in-depth dev interviews from KF!
This is KFG Vol. 3, Episode 92 (Episode 576 overall)
Prominent cameos that were missing
From Sony: Syphon Filter, Twisted Metal, Unfinished Swan, Fat Princess, StarHawk
From 3rd Party: Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest, Rayman, Gex, Tomba, GTA, Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin, Croc
Damn, I guess Resistance can just stay dead if Fat Princess can be listed but Resistance gets forgotten 😭 lol
The bot that I recognized that surprised me was the MLB bot. It makes so much sense but I never would have guessed they'd make an apperance.
Just finished it! Best end credits ever!
I played the whole game with my 3 year old daughter which was awesome. She got quite upset when astro went at the end, but alas he was saved. Did think it would be a cool sequel set up playing as the other bots to rescue him.
I'm so ready for an Astro Bot reference in Death Stranding 2.
The second I saw Raziel and he did the world change move I was so happy and sad that we will never see a new game or remake on this soul reaver. And the devil dice memories
I can’t believe they got Yakuza in it
I was so excited to see him. I immediately was pining for his accessory.
12 to 15 hours is enough, right?
HELL YES
@1:18:53 And the song in the PS3 level goes “$599,” in a robot voice. And then Astro yells out in shock.
I’m surprised there was no references to Resistance
Unless I missed it
I could see a spin-off of this franchise being a Smash Brothers clone with iconic PlayStation characters, but it's the Astrobot version of them.
Can yall clip or break out the Japan trip? That’s some good content
The 4th world was for the psp so i feel like locoroco was a good rep
Amazingly enjoyable game.
Cant believe you didnt mention Rescue Mission at all to Doucet, talking like it doesnt exist only mentioning Playroom and the new game.
I hope anyone at KF that hasnt played it goes back and does(i know its on very outdated hardware).
On the real tho...where's Legend of Dragoon? Need a sequel or remake or something! One of my favorite games of all time!!
Great interview, Bless and Rog! Makes me want to go work for Team Asobi...I wonder if they have any use for a guy who graduated college almost 15 yearsgo with a creative writing degree that has never been used and instead has worked in the service and municipal government industries.

L take
@@ThwipThwipBoom Since when is preferring good game design to nostalgia an "L Take"?
@@BasketCase-rr7tx You can do both at the same time which Astro Bot does. It's basically the same exact thing Smash Bros Ultimate does as well.
agreed, i think the PS stuff being the hook of this game was great, but i’m excited for them to expand the IP beyond being a sony hype machine and let it stand on its own, it might be the only thing holding it back from being iconic.
worst in the game is a fucking wild take. They're not the best but worst?!?!
Give me a god damn Ape Escape!
You shut up Tim, I do want a new Legend of Dragoon lol
If MediEvil 2 was to be resurrected from the grave again I feel it will be in great hands at Asobi's studio. Other Ocean did a great job with the original remake but I would have way more faith in Asobi as they are a 1st party studio with more support from sony
9.9/10 because FF7 was missing and it was a gaping hole in playstation history. Other than that, it’s perfection. Cloud DLC please.
Anyone have a link for the Parappa T shirt Roger is wearing during the Team Asobi interview?
Bless, the watch you’re wearing in the interview is broken
Astro Bot made replay Uncharted 4
Agghhh no Andy 😢

The only downside to a game this successful is the incoming backlash. It’s going to be severe.

If we really want Astro to be successful I think they will have to step away from PlayStation in the future and have their own identity
we def need a new ape escape. what the hell are yall talkin about
I just wanted to say, that Roger was right about the balls thing. It's because you have some of the same types of cells or something in your balls that you do in your mouth. But you can absolutely not taste with your balls for the record
Beat the game twice. The Locoroco level is the only level I don’t want to play.
when did everyone start saying 'I popped' all the time?
Was that interview done in a Wendy's?
How do you really spoil a game that doesn't have a damn story?
Themed levels, easter eggs, characters, cameos…
Story isn’t the only thing worth finding out on your own in a video game. That’s ridiculous.
