dave from northumberland uk i recently bought an induction heater fantastic especialy for exaust bolts and nuts i used to run a saab 900 at one point we had 4 in the family super cars of quality never to be seen again merry christmas to you and all your family
I love this project - always been a huge fan of Saabs. The Commander stickers on the sides are so delightfully 80s and the color itself really suits the car!
I be mobile again, after extensive work including a full fuel system rebuild and some other awkward jobs, my Reliant Robin MK2 van is back and running like a champ... so very pleased with the old girl and a joy to drive round these twisty turny rural lanes :D
The rust saga is like those TV ads where they peddle cheap products that have sudden "But wait! There's more!" extras, finding rust in all the places that needs repairing... :P
Great to see the Saab back , rust is a bugger isn't it but you will sort it out I have no doubt . Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you and yours .
I bought a 1985 900i in 2020 it was driving great until a couple of months in I went over a speed bump there followed a constant knocking noise at the back first of all I thought the anti roll bar link had broken but on investigation it was that panel the shock absorber had punched through the hole at the top I got the repair panel from bill at saabbits it seems to be a common rust area as it is a bit of a mud trap
7:50 I am not trying to make you suck eggs. Whenever I used to do work like that. I would spray WD40 and get a wire brush to clean the threads. Looking at the amount of underseal it seems like it would be clogged up my friend. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. Have a fantastic new year.
saab 900 doors are point blank shotgun proof . i had a friend that bought one over 30 years ago with strange little dents in the door monthts later he was told the story of how it happend.
But am I right about the missing "patch" on the repair panel? is the material thicker around the hole? On the original one its 2 pieces of 2 mm! 4 mm thick! :O
My parents always had Saabs & the steel was always crappy... Dad put aluminium tape on the brown rust holes on our white Saab 95 -64. Said it would outlast the car, he was probably right. I don't know why Sweden with it"s huge Iron/Steel industry only have managed to produce half-decent steel quality. Some lack of ambition or knowledge.... SSAB has some very impressive webpages about their Swedish automotive steel. But every nut&bolt was always rusted stuck on every Saab/Volvo i owned.. In Sweden, there were stories about VERY dissappointed british customers who drove their almost new, but rusty cars back to the import port and incinersted them in the parkin lot...
I had so much trouble getting the shocks off my vehicle earlier this year, and it's only 22 years old! Hateful job. In my case, as I was replacing the shocks, new rubbers came with the new ones!
Huhaa from my old white 4 door which you saw at netto this is going to be a huge job.......Saab of that year will have rust hiding behind the smallest bubles in the under coating and yours are much worse than mine ever was
With exceptions of course, rust is pretty much the universal enemy of automobiles.. I've said it before, I think you need to use some penetrating oil on those stuck nuts and bolts... See you next year...

Thank you!
The induction heater is on the wish list..! :)
@@SeasideGarage I improvised a bolt heater using a TIG torch on low power, works very well.
What make / model did you buy?
I worked for Saab/Scania in the 80s, the company cars were all 900 Turbos which made me very happy...good luck bringing this one back to life!
Damn you are a busy youtuber. I appreciate your many videos.
Happy to hear that! :D
At Seaside Garage, the day following Christmas is
box-sectioning day.
Nice work!.
haha exactly!
I love this project - always been a huge fan of Saabs. The Commander stickers on the sides are so delightfully 80s and the color itself really suits the car!
I really hope you will succeed in getting this Saab back on the road ❤
I’ve driven Saabs for 41 years and counting. The build quality is outstanding.
it really is.... !
I think this one may be the exception 😂 (as with all late 20c. Euro cars)
I have a 1990 Saab 900i, probably going to binge watch this series
I be mobile again, after extensive work including a full fuel system rebuild and some other awkward jobs, my Reliant Robin MK2 van is back and running like a champ... so very pleased with the old girl and a joy to drive round these twisty turny rural lanes :D
as always, such an absolute delight watching you take care of this is Commander. You are the best!
Seaside and rust go together like gin and tonic 😂
All the best for the New Year for you and your family
The rust saga is like those TV ads where they peddle cheap products that have sudden "But wait! There's more!" extras, finding rust in all the places that needs repairing... :P
You'll soon have the SAAB back on the road again 👍😎. Happy New Year to you and your family, looking forward to more excellent content in 2025.
Happy New Year 😀
Godt nytår 🎉
Great to see the Saab back , rust is a bugger isn't it but you will sort it out I have no doubt . Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you and yours .
Thank you Shaun!
You should invest in a metal nut splitter tool, with that you remove the stubborn nuts in a jiffy😁
Love the Saab, such a cool car
I would cut hole to fit your repair panel rather than cutiing it down fit the hole, looks to be in better condition.
thats the plan :)
Godt nytår 🙂👍
Saab ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Tak for videoen. Ud fra min observation er det vejsalt, der bruges i Danmark, desværre meget aggressivt.

Same thing happened to my 900i last year. Thankfully that reinforced part was available from the Swedish Saab club. 👍
Merry Christmas 😀
Same to you!
Hey seppo, can you do a video on your sandblasting setup?

Wow, a Yugo steering wheel!? Was it a project or just a memorabilia? Greetings from Serbia and thank you for every great explanation, tip and trick :)
A cool dude drove a Yugo from Slovenia to nordkapp and gave me the steering wheel when i passed by my garage!
What was that spray at 1:41? Does it dissolve old underseal?
Saaaaaab!

:O Now I need a shotgun! that should be tested!
@@SeasideGarage thats definitly got to be the next video.
hej, hvad brugte du til at tage tectyl af med?
Saaben er tilbage!!!! Min favorit :)).
Hvad brugte du for et middel til at fjerne den gamle "rust beskyttelse" ?
I would throw away this shock absorber just to take revenge 😂
Quick question - I like your compact car lift... do you have a make and model that I could check out?
Its a Ravaglioli .. can't remember more than that... but it's great!
@SeasideGarage thank you! I'll find it! 👏👏👏💪
I ended up buying the repair panel for mine. Rather bad fit, had to cut some reliefs and convince it to fit with a sledgehammer...
That was actually what I was concerned of.... Happy I found a good donor part! :D
But am I right about the missing "patch" on the repair panel? is the material thicker around the hole? On the original one its 2 pieces of 2 mm! 4 mm thick! :O
@@SeasideGarage You're right, it's bloody thick. Didn't measure it but 4mm could be right where the reinforcement piece is.
@@SeasideGarage I've still got the unused repair panel for the other side. Could examine it tomorrow if I remember.

Any 1 hour job is one broken bolt away from a 3 day nightmare.....
Oui
Something _is_ rotten in Denmark. :)
always!
New year's resolution fix the Saab, or at least do some welding
I love that car and it is in the right hands now. Well done! 🫡

I want one! but they are pricey! :D
